Discovery Co-op held its annual Baby Crawl event on Saturday, May 16 after the original date was postponed because of a winter storm. A total of 24 families registered for the event, with 11 babies competing. Children up to one year old were eligible to enter as long as they were not yet walking. The competition featured four heats, with the winner of each advancing to the final heat. Every participant received a box of Baby Mum-Mum snacks and a $10 FF2 gift card.

Parents and grandparents used a variety of methods to encourage the babies toward the finish line, including car keys, toys and even a vacuum cleaner. Family members also cheered on the young competitors throughout the races. The winner of the 2026 Baby Crawl was Jaiden Dantes, who received a $500 RESP from Innovation Wealth Management. Second place went to Colt Peyachew, who received a $250 Co-op gift card, while Kaden Gauthier finished third and received a $100 Co-op gift card. The wild card draw winner was Guillermo “GG” Moore, who received a gift basket filled with baby essentials.

The Battlefords Regional News-Optimist is proud to announce they have been honoured with nine provincial awards at the 2026 Saskatchewan Weekly Newspaper Association (SWNA) Better Newspapers Competition. The annual awards recognize excellence in journalism, photography, and newspaper design among member publications across Saskatchewan. Journalist/Photographer Averil Hall led the newsroom’s success, securing multiple placements across photographic and cultural reporting categories, including two first-place
