The Dekker Centre parking lot was busy on June 7 as the annual Guitars & Cars Show and Shine drew a large crowd. The rain stayed away until about 1:30 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy the vehicle displays, live music, food trucks, and the popular Burnout Box demonstration. People of all ages attended throughout the day, making for another well-attended event. See page 3 for more. Battleford resident takes home gold in pickleball provincials By Angela Brown SaskToday.ca

battlefordsflooring.ca

BATTLEFORD — Battleford resident Les Semchuk had a strong showing at the pickleball provincial tournament held in Regina May 28 to 31. He along with Colleen Moniuk captured gold in 63-plus mixed doubles. Semchuk won a silver medal along with Jack Stack in the 67-plus men’s doubles, and he garnered a bronze in 60-plus men’s singles. Despite the strong showing, Semchuk wished he could have done better.

“I have mixed emotions because I was expecting to win at least two golds,” he said. “I had never played with my men’s partner in a serious competition before, so that was unknown how we were going to do. But I’ve been playing with my mixed partner for a couple of years, and we’re very competitive. So I was expecting to win that one, and I was expecting to win gold in singles because I won that one last year.” Semchuk, who is 70 years old, is happy with his score in the mixed doubles.
