NORTH BATTLEFORD–The Tony Cote Summer Games are in the Battlefords this week bringing more than 3,000 young First Nation athletes from across the province to the region. More than 20,000 people will be attending the Games, running July 26 to 31, including athletes, coaches, spectators and families. Chief Quenton Swiftwolfe, with Moosomin First Nation and Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs (BATC), said the event is important to youth. “It’s definitely important for our youth to connect, collaborate, make new friendships, and to bring First Nations youth out of their shell,” he said. “It’s an important aspect of our First Nations communities, where a lot of these kids in our communities don’t have that opportunity to go play elsewhere, and this is their own.
