NORTH BATTLEFORD– The City of North Battleford has renewed its financial commitment for a proposed new campus for North West College. The issue was raised at city council’s meeting on July 13. Mayor Kelli Hawtin was authorized to send a proposed letter for a commitment in principle for the development of a new North West College campus in North Battleford. The commitment was pre-

viously agreed upon with former mayor David Gillan’s council. “Council has been working with North West College for a number of years on establishing a new consolidated college campus in the city,” Hawtin said. “Our current offer of contributing up to $5 million in capital expired in March of this year. We’ll be sending a letter to renew that commitment for the next year, so the college can continue their discussions with the province.” The commitment is in ef-

fect until April 2027. “Hopefully we’ll have a direction before then,” Hawtin said. She said the development would bode well for the future of North Battleford. “It would be a very positive development for the city and the entire region,” Hawtin said. “It’s a significant economic development anchor for the community, supports businesses, supports growth in the community. So council feels that it aligns with the strategic plan and vision of the city.”
