COCHIN–It took about a dozen people to rescue a black gelding who was in peril after falling through the ice at Lehman Creek near Cochin on Jan. 7. Leslie-Ann Smith was one of the people who first noticed the horse was in trouble near Murray Lake. She texted Cochin Mayor Mark Pattinson to alert him right away that morning. Smith said Pattinson joined the other area residents who tried to get the horse out of the water. “It was quite the endeavour for them to get him out. NORTH BATTLEFORD– Skate Battlefords is gearing up to hold a fun event open to the public called Star Skate Showcase. The event will take place on Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Access Communications Centre in North Battleford. “It’s like a competition simulation. They are going to see programs and demonstrations from our higher level Star Skaters,” said Hannah
McTaggart, president of Skate Battlefords. “So, starting right from our Star one, our beginning skaters, they will be doing some creative improv skating dances. Then, as they [skaters] move up in the levels, they [people] will be able to see demonstrations and programs from our Star Skaters all the way up through the highest levels.” The skaters will showcase their competition programs, dance demonstrations, and creative improv routines.
