This business organization was incorporated as the North Battleford Board of Trade in 1906 with H. W. Detwiller as the Charter President and R. R. Earle, the Commissioner. In 195657, the Board of Trade changed its designation to the North Battleford Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, Battleford joined with the city and the Chamber of Commerce became known as the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce and has grown with the communities, supporting a membership of more than 350 businesses and organizations.The Chair of the Board is supported by a 15 member elected board of directors, the Chief Operating Officer and an Operations staff to deal with the many, varied requests for business assistance from the local community and potential newcomers to the Battlefords. Chambers of Commerce are catalysts in their community, and the Battlefords Chamber is no different. The local organization
has several key priorities to serve the needs of its member businesses. Some of the priorities include: workforce, economic and community development, business promotion and education, and more.The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce is the “voice” of business in the Battlefords. Regular meetings of the board of directors are held the third Tuesday of each month (excluding July and August) at 7:30 p.m. in the Balych Mural Meeting Room at the Chamber building. Downtown North Battleford The mission of the North Battleford Business Improvement District is to champion the transformation of Downtown North Battleford through investment attraction, signature events and partnerships. Our vision is to make Downtown the place to be; active and inviting boutique shopping destination with a mix of retail, restaurants and events. The BID, formally incorporated on May 30, 2013, is an organization born from the collective vision and commitment of the Downtown North Battleford merchants. Community Service Clubs & Lodges Beta Sigma Phi Beta Sigma Phi is a non-academic international women’s friendship network which provides educational programs to its members and opportunities for service to others. Known around the world as “The Friendship Organization”, we are women of all ages, interests, educational and economic backgrounds, the largest organization of its kind in the world. Beta Sigma Phi chapters exist in every Canadian province, every American state, and in 30 other countries. Members in two chapters support the arts in and around the Battlefords and District. In the 85 years since its founding, membership in Beta Sigma Phi has provided opportunities to contribute to the community, to develop lifelong friendships, and to polish leadership skills. Battlefords New Horizons Recreation Association Is a group of seniors who golf during the summer and curl during the winter. Membership is $1 per year, they golf on Mondays at NBGCC in a scramble format, making up teams each day with whomever shows up. Curling during the winter, teams are made up in October and January. They curl on Tuesdays at Twin River Curling Club at 1 p.m. Contact: President is Wally Gordey, 306-445-4167, Sec. The Catholic Women’s League of Canada The Catholic Women’s League was organized nationally June 17, 1920. Community Service Clubs & Lodges The Historic Battleford Lions Club The Historic Battleford Lions Club (chartered in 1976) and the Battleford 2000 Lions Club (Chartered in 2000) amalgamated in 2014 and are now jointly called The Historic Battleford Lions Club. The Lions motto is “We Serve” Our club “serves” our community by supporting local people, projects and events and we feel that giving back to our community helps make our community a great place to live.Working in partnership with other Lions members is an invaluable and fun experience, fostering positive personal and professional relationships. We organize the Christmas Bazaar, held the first Saturday of December, and the “We’ve got you covered” Community Garage Sale, held the first Saturday in May, as well as numerous other activities.
This year, we will be organizing an event in conjunction with the International Street Performer Festival in July and also organizing “The Operun” in October to raise funds for the Opera House in Battleford. Funds raised are dedicated to specific projects or are distributed to local people, projects and events throughout the year. We also support organizations that deal with diabetes, sight, the elderly youth, culture, sports and recreation. As Lions, we support project Pride and Lions Dog Guides and other events sponsored by Lions International and the Lions Foundation of Canada. We also “serve” by volunteering with the Meals on Wheels program, by volunteering to host a birthday party at Battlefords District Care Centre, by planting trees in our community and in many other ways. Ionic Lodge No. 31 A.F. and A.M. Ionic Lodge No. 31 was instituted in North Battleford in 1906. It is a fraternity which ‘Takes good men and makes them better’ through a rich history of allegory, symbols and brotherhood. Although not strictly a service organization, the philanthropy of the Order is Youth. Ionic Lodge provides awards to the Musical Festival in Speech Arts; and sponsor a young boy or girl to a provincial youth program designed to improve leadership skills. As well, the Masonic Youth Trust Fund provides scholarships to further student education. Ionic Lodge No. 31 meets on the second Friday of every month except July and August. Kiwanis Club of The Battlefords
Membership in K-40 consists of former Kinsmen Club members. Wives of K-40 members are K-ettes.The K-40 Club functions mainly as a social organization to continue the fellowship established in Kinsmen. The K-40 Bonspiel, held each year in a different location in Canada, is a major event. K-40 members also assist Kinsmen and Kinettes when called upon. Supper meetings are held when required.
While Kiwanis is international in scope, the Kiwanis Club of the Battlefords makes the needs of children in the Battlefords its first priority. Club meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday at noon of every month at Blend Restaurant and offer an atmosphere of fun, learning and fellowship. Noon meetings generally consist of project updates followed by thoughtprovoking community speakers. The Kiwanis Club supports a wide range of community organizations and our service projects are often linked to the Kiwanis Program. “Young Children: Priority One,” but we address other needs within the community. Some community organizations and community needs that we have been able to assist are: Catholic Family Services, Saskatchewan Winter Games, COPS Program, Empty Stocking Fund, Kiwanis Music Festival, Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, Meals on Wheels, Novice Hockey Tournament, Finlayson Island Nature Trail, Cancer canvass, walking trails, funding for the CUplex project, plus numerous scholarships and sponsorships.

Community Service Clubs & Lodges Knights of Columbus - District 15 The Knights of Columbus (K of C) is an International Catholic, Family, Fraternal Service Organization of Catholic Men. District 15 is made up of fourThird-Degree councils in the North Battleford area. District Deputy Thomas Schwab is in charge of these four councils, with over 421 members. The Knights of the area are proud to have among them three Past State Deputies. They are: Eugene Thera, Mervyn Welter and Denis Carignan. We honour the memory of Past State Deputy, John Etcheverry who passed away in 2003. For membership, contact the Grand Knight or Financial Secretary of any of the councils listed below. There is also one Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in the Battlefords area. North Battleford K of C Council No. 2094 is known as the “Mother Council” of the area. It was instituted on February 15, 1920. This Council now has over 105 members from Notre Dame and All Saints parishes in the city and includes members from Hafford and Mayfair as well as other parishes in Sask.,Alberta, and B.C. John Vany 306445-5306 is the Grand Knight.The Financial Secretary is Thomas Schwab 306-937-3794. Meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month. Pope John XXIII Council No. 5694 dissolved and members are moving other councils. St. Joseph Calasanctius Council No. 7336 was chartered in 1979. Paul J. McAllister is the Grand Knight (306-446-4680). Daren Merkowsky is the Financial Secretary (306-445-7910). 140 members. Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at K of C Club Room, 195298 St., North Battleford. The Council hosts a Sunday Brunch every 2nd Sunday of the month. Father Bigonesse Council No. 5626 located in the town of Battleford was formed in 1964. Is very active in the Catholic Parish of St. Vital and the Battleford community. Todd Bailey (306-3179345) is Grand Knight. The Financial Secretary is Ron Sack (306-9373228). 108 members. Meetings are held every first Tuesday of each month. The Council hosts a Sunday Brunch every 1st Sunday of the month. Dr. Hamelin Council No. 5878 serves St. Andres parish in North Battleford and St. Jean Baptiste de la Salle at Delmas. The council was formed in 1965 to serve the francophone communities. This council takes an active part in all segments of charities. The Grand Knight is Hubert Blais (306-377-1194). (306-937-2546). 38 members. Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month. The Dr. Uhrich Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly No. 1066 is the Patriotic Degree of the Knights of Columbus. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism for God and the country. The Fourth Degree members are strong supporters of the local Bishop and provide honorary guards on special occasions. At present, the Assembly has over 150 members in the north-west area of Saskatchewan. Sir Knight Andy Bonneau will serve as Faithful Navigator (306-446-0556) and Sir Knight Thomas Schwab will serve as Faithful Comptroller (306-9373794). Supper meetings beginning with Mass at 6:15 p.m. are held on the fourth Monday of each month. The ladies and widows of deceased members are invited to the Mass and supper.
Meota Duplicate Bridge Club The Meota Seniors Association will host contract bridge on Mondays at 1:30 p.m. at the Do Drop In Seniors’ Centre. Anyone is welcome to participate in the games. We can find you a partner if needed. Our players are of varying skill levels. Lessons can be arranged by request for anyone who wishes to learn. Mind and Muscle Running Group Now in it’s 3rd year, Mind and Muscle Running Group is a great way for experienced and new runners to stay motivated with their running development and training. The benefits of a Running Group include:Motivation. Running with others helps you put in more effort than you may on your own.Accountability. It’s easier to skip out on a solo run than to miss a commitment to a group. Consistency.You become a better runner when you stick to a training plan. Running with others on a regular basis helps you stick to a training plan.Social Connection. Running with others is fun and results in new acquaintances and friendships.Our Group meets Saturday and-or Sunday a.m. for runs of varying distances and varying pace.Walk/run is incorporated for new runners. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of Canada was founded in 1912 and was incorporated by an act of Parliament, May 16, 1913. The North Battleford Lodge No. 369 of the B.P.O.E. was founded in 1953. The purpose of this society are: benevolent, provident, moral and charitable purposes and in particular to generally assist children for their good and welfare.

The National Charity of our order is The Elks and Royal Purple fund for children and through this the Elks Deaf Detection and Development Program. This charity offers assistance to children under the age of 19 years who for one reason or another require it and assistance is not available through other channels. Today we have a variety of Ongoing Provincial Programs across Canada for the hearing and communicatively disabled child. The Saskatchewan Preschool Auditory Rehabilitation Centre or SPARC, was founded in 1976. It is located at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon and provides free hearing tests for preschool children. The Institute for Stuttering Treatment and Research, University of Alberta, Edmonton, was founded in 1986.This program provides research and a unique model service with immense benefits for the stuttering child. The Elks and Royal Purple Drug Awareness Program assists in educating children about the danger of drug and alcohol abuse. The North Battleford Lodge supports these programs as well as many local charity and needy groups or individuals. Over the years most children and youth activities, sports programs including minor football league have received assistance from the Elks. We are one of the groups sponsoring free skating for adults and children. Since 2017, more than $200,000 has been donated throughout the community to individuals, schools, groups and organizations. We donated $50,000 to the Aquatic Centre at the CUplex multi
purpose facility, in keeping with our purpose of assisting children and adults. $15,000 was committed to Battlefords Residential Services Inc. towards the purchase of a van. Community Service Clubs & Lodges North Battleford Bonaventure Lions Club Meetings: First Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Kinsmen Band Hall, 1801 104th Street, North Battleford. Rotary is an organization of business and professional women and men united to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to help build good will and peace in the world. Membership is based on business classification and normally attracts proprietors, partners, corporate officers and professionals of worthy businesses and professions. Internationally, Rotary has raised more than $2.1 Billion to support an immunization program to eradicate polio in the world. In The Battlefords, many of our projects have focused on the celebration of excellence in youth as leaders in tomorrow’s world. Scholarships in academics and the arts, RYLE, RYPEN, and international student exchange are all examples of Rotary commitment to youth in the Battlefords. Rotary is also a proud sponsor of the NBCHS Interact club. Rotary has supported local projects such as the Rotary Skateboard Park, Paws Off-Leash Dog Park, King Hill, Multipurpose Walking Trail, the Senator Herb Sparrow Splash Park, Rotary Plaza at the CUplex, and recently donated $50,000 to the Humane Society for their new building. The SaskTel Pioneers are a volunteer organization, promoting and participating in activities that respond to community needs. The SaskTel Pioneers are a provincial wide volunteer group with several chapters throughout the province, with the North Battleford Club having approximately 150 members.The organization consists of retired, working, and previous employees of SaskTel. It also includes spouses who contribute a great deal to the organization. Our focus as an organization is on health, environment and education with literacy being one of our primary centers of attention.We have a long and ongoing relationship with many of the schools in Northwest Saskatchewan, where we participate with them in programs to supply backpacks full of school supplies for students in need.We donate or facilitate the donations of thousands of new books for North West students to have not only at school but at home. We have also made significant financial donations to over 25 school libraries and their literacy program in the last ten years. We also have proud relationships with many other local organizations and groups such as BTEC, Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Cancer Society, The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation and Meals on Wheels. With the support of the Battlefords Hotel and Dental Associations and various local businesses we have also begun to
provide free of charge personal hygiene kits to many local schools and shelters. As a club our focus is volunteer work, where we consistently provide between 2000 and 3000 hours per year to the Saskatchewan North West. Through battery and computer salvage initiatives we are also able to help may local organizations with financial donations. Our mission is to make a recognized contribution to a variety of community needs while providing value to our partner organization and creating rewarding fellowship opportunities. 4-H is one of Canada’s largest and longest running organizations for youth. Do you like learning new things? Do you like having fun? Do you like making friends? Then 4-H is for you? AWANA Boys and Girls Club
Territorial Drive Alliance Church The AWANA Club is an interdenominational organization for boys and girls from age two years to Grade 12. Our name is an acrostic taken from 11 Timothy 2:15 - “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (NIV) In other words, Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed - AWANA. AWANA Club meets each Tuesday from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Territorial Drive Alliance Church. Club begins in early September and runs until the end of April. Each club evening is divided into three parts — game time, handbook time and council time. Game time encourages good sportsmanship and cooperation. Handbook time focuses on scripture memorization and understanding the Bible. Each clubber has an opportunity to recite their memory work to qualified leaders. Council time is a time of singing, presentation of awards and a devotional.There are special theme nights each month that everyone enjoys. One special activity is the annual “Grand Prix” during which the clubbers race model cars which they have constructed out of wood. Girls and boys from all denominations are welcome. Battle River Archers Archery Club Our club’s purpose is to promote the sport of archery. Our members enjoy the opportunity to introduce non-members to the sport and to improve their skill level in a safe and friendly environment. Our club’s facilities appeal to target archers, 3D archers and bow hunters. Our club is an active participant in the Saskatchewan Archery Association’s “Junior Olympic Program” (the program runs October through to April) wherein young archers (age 21 and under) receive coaching and recognition as they progress to higher levels of proficiency. Special Interest & Recreation Battle River Cloggers The Battle River Cloggers was formed in the fall of 1987, when a group of square dancers asked Dona Keys if she would be their instructor.The club has grown to include people from all around the Battlefords. In the fall of 1995, we started a children’s class. Clogging is done with a double tap on the shoe. It came from the Appalachian Mountains and was modernized to better fit modern music.The Battle River Cloggers dance Monday evenings and afternoons from late September to April. Battleford Quilters The Battleford Hand Quilters group was formed on March 6, 1974. The traditional art of hand quilting continues to be enjoyed by 10 members who meet each Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Alex Dillabough Center. Visitors are welcome to join us to observe, put in a few stitches and have a cup of tea/ coffee. New members are always welcome. The Battleford Quilters will take orders for quilts to be hand quilted. The customers provide the quilt top, the batting and backing. All the hand quilting is stitched by volunteers. Each hand quilted quilt has The Battlefords Quilters logo on the back. Most of the proceeds are kept in the community, with donations to the Battleford Tot Lot and other organizations. Members have enjoyed demonstrating hand quilting for special occasions at the Western Development Museum and have previously hand quilted there during Museum Days in June and Those Were the Days in August. Battlefords Beaver Good Sam Chapter A group of people interested in camping and socializing in a spirit of helping each other. The Good Sam Club is the largest Recreation Vehicle Owners Club in North America with nearly one million members. Saskatchewan currently has 16 Chapters comprised of over 300 member families throughout the province. The Battlefords Beaver Chapter of Good Sam organizes monthly summer RV events and various winter activities with the goal of enjoying recreational fellowship. Battlefords Community Players Are you looking for a new adventure, did drama back in high school, always wanted to be involved in live theatre but never had the time or thought experience was necessary? Come out and join the Battlefords Community Players. We are open to everyone and welcome new members at any time. Remember there is more to community theatre than acting, we also need people to build sets, create costumes or who might just like to help by working backstage or front of house. Don’t know, not sure, we can mentor. Battlefords Community Players have been part of the scene in the Battlefords since 1952. The club is one of the oldest in the province
and the first to bring supper theatre to Saskatchewan audiences. The club traditionally presents three or four productions each year and will often work with other groups in partnership to present a wide variety of experiences to the community.The club has been the first to produce many new plays for first time and emerging writers – some with great success others not so much.We have also produced many productions written by local writers that have been very successful. We are pleased to announce our 2021-2022 Season that begins with the first of our four productions on October 26 to November 6 with Two One-Act Plays by local authors Barb O`Neal and the late Eric Anderson.The second production is Here On The Flight Path by Norm Foster which runs from November 30 to December 11, a fun show for our holiday season. In the new year begin with The Sunshine Boys by Neil Simon being performed from March 22 to April 2 and our final and fourth show of the season is Educating Rita by Willy Russell. Show dates are May 24 to June 4. Each of our four shows offer 2 evenings of show only and 6 evening of dinner and the show. Tickets are available now with a special discount of 20% for anyone purchase a season package of all four shows before the season opens. All our production take place in our building at 102-26th Street in Battleford and our capacity going into this season is 40 patrons per evening. Battlefords Duplicate Bridge Club The Battlefords Duplicate Bridge Club has been in operation close to fifty years. Bridge is an intellectual game, one of the most popular card games worldwide and is believed to slow the process of dementia. Bridge games continue through the year on Tuesdays 10:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. Bagged lunch at noon. Free coffee and snacks at all sessions. Due to Covid 19, presently all bridge is cancelled. The Battlefords Duplicate Bridge Club is an affiliated club with the American Contract Bridge League in Horn Lake, Ms. (ACBL), headquarters for all North American clubs. Provincial, national and international bridge tournaments and charity games are regular features. These have all been cancelled until further notice. North Battleford regularly participates in Alzheimer Charity games. This is usually held in June near the longest day. All donations will go to the Alzheimer Society Saskatchewan. Special Interest & Recreation Battlefords Highland Dancing Association
The Battlefords Highland Dancing Association (BHDA) promotes Scottish culture in and around the Battlefords, primarily by offering highland dancing lessons and planning an annual Robert Burns Supper and Ceilidh in January. Highland dancing brings together Scottish tradition and modern dance discipline. Dancers learn traditional dances, teach their bodies to move with strength and grace, meet new friends, build confidence, and have fun! Dancers (boys and girls) are welcome to begin lessons as early as 3 years old, but it’s never too late to start! Registration takes place in September and lessons run from late September - May.
Festival continues to uphold these ideals, giving performers a place to share their artistry, while building a stronger and more vibrant musical community. Various disciplines are included in the competition syllabus, including voice, piano, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, organ, choirs and school music, speech arts, band and orchestral classes. Expert adjudicators in each genre are hired to judge the competitions. The Battlefords festival is well supported by community donations and sponsorships, and over $7000 in scholarship money is awarded every year. Selected local performers can advance to the SMFA Provincial Competitions held in June, where outstanding young artists from around the province come together to compete. The Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival Association strives to enhance lives through an appreciation for music. Special Interest & Recreation Battlefords Lawn Bowling Club The Battlefords Lawn Bowling Club was formed on May 24, 1978. In 1979 the club affiliated with the Provincial and Canadian Lawn Bowling Association. The purpose of the club is to provide lawn bowling opportunities for members wishing to participate for recreation, fellowship and to prepare themselves for competitive lawn bowling. This sport is open to people of all ages - young and not so young. Our members compete in tournaments in Saskatoon and exchange Fun Days with Saskatoon Clubs, Nutana and Mayfair. We bowl Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 6:45 p.m. at 1901 - 106th Street weather permitting. Membership fee for the whole season, a possible 60 games is $55.00, $40.00 for juniors. Prospective members are allowed two free trial evenings. Members are not committed to attend every time, but whenever they wish to come out to bowl. The Battlefords North Stars are one of 12 teams, which compete in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.The North Stars take pride in providing the community with entertainment and a high calibre brand of hockey. Since 1973, the Battlefords have been home to a junior hockey franchise and are proud to have some of the most loyal and enthusiastic fans in the league. The North Stars appreciate the support of the community and do what they can to give back to the community. That often includes visits

Operations of the club also include a large group of volunteers, billets who open their homes and an elected board of directors. Special Interest & Recreation Battlefords Registered Music Teachers’ Association Since its founding in 1948, the Battlefords branch of the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers Association has been actively concerned and involved in the provision of quality music education. Active members of the association reside in Glenbush,Wilkie, Spiritwood, Unity, Battleford, North Battleford and surrounding rural areas. The members frequently serve their communities as church organists, accompanists, guest soloists, playing for weddings and funerals.Teachers also prepare students for music festivals, examinations and public recitals. At least one degree from a recognized educational institution must be obtained before becoming a full member of the association. Because of affiliation with the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Association, students of Registered Music Teachers have special opportunities to achieve experience in music writing competitions conducted nationally. Students who perform can take part in auditions for the Young Artist Series. Winners of this competition will perform a series of concerts on a tour which is hosted by the Registered Music Teachers Association. Battlefords Sailing Club offers fun and safe lake recreational opportunities. In recent years, the Club has broadened its scope to include activities such as stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking, in addition to sailing. Club members enjoy liberal access to one of the finest beach facilities in Saskatchewan, and they enjoy free use of the many Club-owned sailboats, kayaks, and stand up paddle boards. The Clubhouse is located on the lakefront on the east edge of the village of Meota, adjacent to Meota Regional Park swimming area and beach, and the Meota Golf Course.The facility boasts a spacious elevated deck with an amazing view, BBQ, large meeting/event area, modern kitchen, pool table, and washrooms with showers.The property includes a wide sandy beach for swimming, dock, access for sailboat lifts, and a large lawn for outdoor activities. Note that the Clubhouse is available to groups to rent for special events. Club activities include beachfront socials and fun sailing/kayaking/ paddle boarding. While many Club members are engaged in these fun activities, some join the Club just to have access to the clubhouse and facilities – almost like having their own day-use cottage on the lakefront. Special Interest & Recreation Battlefords Vintage Auto Club Inc. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the BVAC Clubhouse. The club is organized to develop interest in the restoration and preservation of vintage and special interest automobiles, to promote fellowship, and to encourage the working together of members and their families in their social and automotive interests. You do not have to own a vintage vehicle. Anyone with any vehicle is welcome to join. Memberships are for the year January 1 to December 31 and are $30. They must be paid by March 1 of each year to register for members’ to be included in the current roster. The Battlefords Vintage Automobile Club is a member of the Saskatchewan Association of Automobile Clubs Corporation, and also of the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada Corporation.

Special Interest & Recreation Battlefords Wildlife Federation More than 75 years ago a group of hunters and fishermen got together and formed an organization to stop excessive hunting and to slow down the depletion of habitat for wildlife, and to establish controls on over fishing. This organization eventually became known as the Battlefords Wildlife Federation. At the present time there are over 300 members. In 1975, the Battlefords Wildlife Federation in conjunction with the City of North Battleford, Ducks Unlimited and McMillan Brothers embarked on one of its most exciting and successful undertaking, “The Goose Nesting Project”.This is located within the city limits in the North Saskatchewan River Valley. The two basins cover 135 acres. An average of 50 pairs of Canada Geese nest there each year, with a yearly hatch of over 200 goslings.This wetland also provides habitat for numerous other species both migratory and local. It is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. A viewing tower and platforms has been built to provide magnificent opportunities to see wildlife up close. In 2019, Battlefords Wildlife Federation started a Pheasant Program. This program was designed to include schools, where children learned about the pheasants and have hands on experience of hatching pheasants and releasing them into the wild to help populate the species in the surrounding area. We had a successful year in 2020 and created a second pen to hold the new batch of birds from the eggs that we collected from our first batch in 2019. We hope to continue with this program and having our local schools involved in the future. Our Pheasant pens are located at Destination Battlefords in the North Saskatchewan River Valley. On 9710 Thatcher Avenue is the George Hoey Wildlife exhibit.There are 230 taxidermy specimens on display. For a tour call Daniel at 306317-2452. The Battlefords Wildlife Federation building also houses an indoor shooting range. It is certified and licensed for target shooting handguns and 22 rim fire rifles. Special Interest & Recreation Club DJ Trinity Baptist Church Club DJ is our church children’s club program designed for children from kindergarten to Grade 6. Club DJ is based on the covenant relationship between two friends David and Jonathan. We read about them in the book of I Samuel. David was a shepherd boy, the youngest in a family of eight boys and Jonathan was a prince, son of King Saul. Everyone would have thought that Jonathan would be king but God had other plans. Instead, God chose David to be the next king of Israel. You might think that Jonathan would be jealous, but instead, Jonathan made a covenant with David and promised to do all he could to help David become all that God wanted him to be. What a friend! Jonathan gave up all he had for David’s sake, and the Bible says David became a man after God’s own heart and that the Lord was with him. We want the children to know they also have a friend who gave up all He had to see them become all God wants them to be. Jesus, the Son of God, left His home in Heaven to come to earth as a little baby. He died and rose again to make a way for each child to have a personal relationship with Him, so they can become all God wants them to be.What a Friend! Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is a private, non-profit, charitable organization that conserves, restores and manages wetlands and associated habitats. Since 1938, DUC has been restoring drained wetlands, improving those that have been degraded, and protecting others from being lost across Saskatchewan. Saskatchewan is part of the pothole region that spans Canada’s southern prairies and is known throughout North America as a unique jurisdiction for waterfowl. The many small wetlands that dot this landscape make it especially attractive to the waterfowl that migrate to Saskatchewan each spring to breed and rear their young. Saskatchewan citizens have long valued the ecologically rich landscapes that make up their province and have played a key role in managing habitat for migratory bird species such as waterfowl. DUC’s work with the people of Saskatchewan has been essential in achieving waterfowl habitat goals and preserving those landscapes. Waterfowl aren’t the only beneficiaries of DUC wetland and habitat conservation efforts – people benefit too.Wetlands are nature’s water filters. Beyond improving habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife, wetlands replenish groundwater sources, purify surface water and offer flood protection and erosion control. All of which contribute to a safe water supply. Although wetlands are considered nature’s nursery, the stark reality is that much of this habitat has been lost and the remainder continues to be degraded. Up to 70 per cent of Canada’s original wetlands have vanished in settled parts of the country, and more disappear every day. Our conservation work is not done. Northland Power Curling Centre The Northland Power Curling Centre located next to the Dekker Centre in the CUplex opened its doors in October 2012.This spacious and modern two storey building, operated by the Twin Rivers Curling Club, features six sheets of ice, change/locker rooms, meeting rooms and administration offices on the main floor and a fully equipped restaurant and lounge with ice surface viewing on the second level.This facility has year round rental opportunities for car shows, trade shows, wedding receptions, public gatherings and company events such as Christmas socials, curling bonspiels, banquets and workshops. Curling opportunities are available for all ages and levels of skill during the curling season which begins after the Thanksgiving long weekend. Daytime slots for the 50 Plus League and New Horizons League will continue. There will also be daytime curling for elementary and high school students. The evening leagues are a mix of open, mixed and competitive. New to Twin Rivers Curling Club is Doubles and Triples curling - both excellent introductions for people who want to learn to curl. Northwest Hockey Development Association The NWHDA is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting hockey in The Battlefords. Our main function for raising money to promote hockey is the operation of the Civic Centre concession. All help in operating the concession is volunteer and these volunteers in turn receive funds for their various organizations. The major disbursement is the Jr.A North Stars with funds also going to the Midget AAA North Stars, The NWHDA also helps in sponsoring various hockey tournaments. The Pioneer Association began in 1955 and has been active ever since. It owns a small but very well-equipped hall at 792 - 101st Street (South Railway Avenue). Members are 50 years of age and over and the annual membership fee is $5.00 per person. Membership numbers at the end of 2016 was 78. Any member of 90 years of age qualifies for a lifetime membership. On the fourth Wednesday of each month a birthday party is held, with a pot-luck supper and a dance with live local music. There are suppers and dances held for special occasions throughout the year. An Old Time Dance is held Sunday afternoons, October to April inclusive, with live music. Pot-luck lunch to follow. This is open to everyone. A jam session is held the first Sunday afternoon of each month from September to May. Musicians bring your instruments to play and sing. Everyone is welcome to come to play, sing, dance or just to listen. Admission is a silver collection. Pot-luck snacks, coffee and tea available. The regular general meeting is held in the hall on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. The hall is rented regularly by The Bridge Club, Ballroom Dance Lessons and Tammy’s Violin lessons. The Hillcrest Singers now use the hall every Friday afternoon for their singing. The hall is available for rent, (at the discretion of the executive for meetings, reunions, birthday or anniversary parties and other functions. Special Interest & Recreation Rivers’ Edge Quilters - The Battlefords The Rivers’ Edge Quilt Guild was formed in September 2000 with 14 members and now has an active membership of nearly 40 quilters. Activities include: monthly business meetings at the Don Ross Center craft room on the first Friday of every month September - May - day long sewing, usually Monday, Thursday and Friday, also at the craft room; retreats; classes taught by members at no charge; and projects for donation within the community. On sewing days, members work on their own projects, take a class from another member, or work on a charity project. Nothing is compulsory, and members can attend as often or as little as they like. Royal Canadian Air Cadets No. 43 Squadron The goal of the Air Cadet movement is to encourage youth to become better citizens, and to promote an interest in aviation and aerospace industries. Weekly training includes citizenship, drill, sports, biathlon, marksmanship, target shooting and curling, with classroom instruction on flying, navigation, airframes, meteorology, aero engines and air radio. Weekend activities include survival training, map and compass orientation, sports weekends, citizenship tours and the central theme of Air Cadets: flying and gliding. Youth aged 14 to 24 have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program, with cadets aged 14 to 18 are able to complete most of the tasks through the squadrons training program. Cadets are also given the opportunity to attend summer camps at various locations in Canada which include Drill and Ceremonial courses,Technical Training (electronics, airframes, aero engines),Airport Operations, Flying and Gliding to a license standard, and International Exchange to the U.S.A., Europe and Australia if qualified and are chosen. 43 Squadron meets every Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m. at 792 111th Street, North Battleford from September - June. The program is open to boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18 inclusive. The program has no registration fees and training and uniforms are provided. AMGITS* is a community volunteer organization, formed in 1986, dedicated to improving the quality of life for long-term mentally ill patients at the Saskatchewan Hospital. They host family functions, and raise funds to provide equipment, decorate to individualize and humanize patients’ living areas, provide tickets for their recreation and help promote their education. They also act as an advocacy group for individuals suffering from long term mental illness and participate in public awareness programs designed to reduce stigma. Hours of operation are: Monday to Friday - 3:30 p.m.to 8:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays. We offer after-school, evening and weekend programming six days/ week encouraging nutrition, physical activity and of course, FUN! Human Services & Health Organizations Battlefords Early Childhood Intervention Program The Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) is a province-wide network of home and community based services provided to families with children from birth to school-age who experience or are at risk for developmental delays. ECIP’s work to enhance child development, support families, and enhance community connections. ECIP organizations share the vision that,“All families have the capacity to meet the developmental needs of their children within the community of their choice.” Children who are involved with ECIP’s are often delayed in reaching age-appropriate, developmental milestones such as walking, talking, eating, playing or interacting socially. Early Interventionists make referrals to an Early Childhood Psychologist, Speech Pathologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and others when necessary. Staff begins by building relationships with families and assist them in working toward mutually-identified goals for their children. Human Services & Health Organizations Canadian Mental Health Association Battlefords CMHA Battlefords Branch
We are an autonomous community based organization supporting persons living with mental health problems/illness/addiction, their families, friends and caregivers. CMHA Battlefords Branch is one of nine branches in Saskatchewan providing direct services, education and mental health/illness community awareness to reduce stigma and emphasize the importance of everyone’s mental health. Membership is open to all. Our Programs: Vocational Therapy develops work and life skills by employing teams of individuals working in the community. Our crews perform residential and business services (snow removal, lawn mowing, flyer deliveries) as well as janitorial services, housekeeping and seasonal management of David Laird Campground. Several individuals are employed in our office managing a lunch program for members as well as other office duties. Recreation offers members activities that encourage socialization. A monthly calendar details events such as dances, special events, day trips and summer programs that are either free or at a small cost. Activities are scheduled four evenings/week in addition to weekend events and a 5-day summer tour. Wellness is a day program offered twice/week and incorporates land based learning and cultural awareness. Lessons teaching our members about their bodies, minds and spirit are presented in ways that are fun and engaging. Other day programs include Seniors, cultural activities and creative art/writing opportunities. Peer Support, a recovery focused program, provides persons living with a mental health problem, illness and/or addiction the opportunity to connect with peers to support their wellness and recovery journey. Service
includes group meetings and one to one peer support. For more information about this program or to connect with this service please contact our office. Living Well Learning Center, a recovery college model, launches in the fall of 2021. Courses are free and everyone is welcome. Our center’s learning environment is empowering and supportive and the knowledge is practical. Course curriculum is unique: developed by subject experts and mental health professionals, working together with people who have their own personal experience in mental health recovery. Our mandate is to act as an extra set of “eyes” and “ears”, patrolling the streets in the City and Town. Patrols are made throughout the day, evening and night in an effort to keep our communities safe and free of criminal activities. Habitat for Humanity - Battlefords Chapter In November 2012, My First Home Inc. of the Battlefords signed an agreement to operate Habitat for Humanity - The Battlefords, under the umbrella of Habitat Saskatoon. Habitat Saskatoon serves as our mentor and provides full administrative support including sending out tax receipts. This allows the local committee and volunteers to focus on the home build itself. Homes are built using volunteer labour and donated materials. Working families who are selected to receive a home must contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” and enter into an affordable and sustainable, no-interest mortgage, held by Habitat Saskatoon. Our first build was a duplex for two single parent families. It took two years to complete from the groundbreaking in 2015 to the families moving in during the summer of 2017. We have been gifted a lot in Riverview for another build but before this can begin funds must be raised. We have dwindled to a committee of three and without more community members stepping forward to serve on the committee this build won’t happen. Kanaweyimik Child and Family Services Inc. was established in 1994 to provide child and family services for First Nation communities. Kanaweyimik currently serves the communities of Moosomin, Mosquito, Sweet Grass and Saulteaux First Nations. Most recently in 2014, Kanaweyimik started to provide prevention services for children and families in the Battlefords and surrounding areas. Prevention Program Kanaweyimik provides individual/family support provided by professional staff; community wide activities coordinated by Local Advisory Committees and supported by Activity Coordinator; youth intervention services to provide youth with opportunities to participate in healthy and cultural activities; and counselling/treatment provided through the Family Violence Program and Warrior Program. Child Protection Program This program is staffed with Family Service Workers that respond to reports of child abuse and/or neglect in the five First Nation communities. The Family Service workers are available during normal working hours. Emergency services are provided after hours and on weekends/holidays. A unit of 3 workers provides these services to children and families living in the urban areas. We also provide a visitation program for children in care of Social Services. Kanaweyimik coordinates visits for children in care and their families. This program has 3 staff and operates a duplex where visits occur in a home environment. Family Violence prevention services are provided for individuals experiencing domestic violence. Playtime Co-operative Childcare This non-profit parent co-operative is licensed to provide childcare services for 73 children aged six weeks to 12 years. The centre is open 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Playtime Childcare provides full-time, part-time and drop-in childcare services. Arrangements can be made for school age children up to 12 years of age to come for noon lunch as well as before and after school. Daily, pre-kindergarten skills are learned. All activities are designed with each individual child’s needs in mind. We do this by combining a learn through play and informal instruction philosophy. Programming is developed and implemented by staff trained in Early Childhood Education. (1977) (PEP) is a non-profit community-based organization which is governed by a local board of directors. PEP’s mandate is to assist clients by establishing realistic employment goals, designing programs focused on substantial outcomes and providing follow-up services and support to ensure long-term success in the workforce. Prairie Employment Program works with unemployed individuals eighteen and over who offer various skills and seek employment. Through the dynamics of one- to-one counselling and the Skills Training Employability Plan (STEP) employment continuum, the agency provides services to facilitate career decision making, skills enhancement, employment preparation, work experience and work assessments. Along the STEP stairway, the agency offers an array of employment support through the CAPACITIES Project, which assists persons with disabilities and multi-barriers in participating as fully as possible in the labour market. The ultimate goal is that persons with disabilities enjoy increased economic independence with enhanced well-being in the Battlefords and region. Given the all-important societal goal, Prairie Employment Program is strongly committed to assisting people who are experiencing serious difficulty obtaining and maintaining employment. Employers will be interested in knowing that employment supports, including job coaching and wage subsidies, are available. The Therapy Dog Program is founded upon the belief in the therapeutic benefits of volunteers from the community sharing their dogs with people who are unable to keep a dog of their own. Typical assignments include long term and palliative care facilities, hospitals and schools. During the visit, the dog offers unconditional love and friendship to the sick, the lonely and the helpless.
