The Rolling Barrage made a stop in the Battlefords on Sunday, Aug. 16, as riders continued their annual cross-Canada motorcycle ride to raise awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The group stopped at the Co-op Gas Bar on Territorial Drive to fuel up before making a drive-through stop in Battleford. From there, the riders continued to Cut Knife, where they planned to meet at the World’s Largest Tomahawk for a group photo before continuing to Wainwright, their first stop in the Alberta. The Rolling Barrage was started by Scott Casey, who envisioned an annual motorcycle ride across Canada to help fight the stigma surrounding PTSD and raise funds for programs and organizations that assist Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and first responders dealing with mental health injuries related to their service. The first Rolling Barrage ride took place in 2017, coinciding with Canada’s 150th birthday and the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. After four years, Casey stepped down and handed leadership of the organization to Paul Harman. The Rolling Barrage PTSD Foundation was later formed after the Board of Directors of Military Minds decided to dissolve the corporation. The foundation continues to make changes each year to improve how the organization operates. The annual ride takes place from July through the end of August, with motorcycles and support vehicles travelling across Canada while raising awareness about PTSD and collecting donations. NORTH BATTLEFORD– Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre’s food bank is looking for more donations. The food bank put a call out on its Facebook Page that it is seeking donations of its most wanted items for its food hampers. “We’re just doing that one mostly posting it so that we do have some donations for the most wanted items,” said food bank manager Fatima Canoy. “We’re doing that one like every six months or every three months.” She said stocks are running a little low.
