Newlywed Game

Icannot roast a chicken. There, I said it. I can’t make a casserole or a soup, and please don’t ask me to bake a cake. I’ve never been ashamed of my culinary shortcomings, though. Don’t ask me why, but it’s just never been an interest or even a passing fascination for me. My friends can cook. My dad can cook. So why would I need to?

As I was working on this issue, I began reflecting on the relationship between cooking and marriage, due in part to new food columnist Brandy Gordon’s wonderful roasted chicken recipe, which she claims to be “simple.” See for yourself starting on pg. 31. According to Brandy, the recipe is ideal for newlyweds, and that’s when my ears perked. Because, you see, I still consider myself to be in that category.

Yes, six wonderful years into my marriage, I still feel like I’m new to the club. Is this due, perhaps, to the very fact that I cannot cook? You tell me. I recently asked my mom and her four sisters what they would consider the newlywed window. How long does it last? What are the qualifications for a full married person? Must you be able to whip up a casserole at a moment’s notice?

“I would say a year, but it has been so long!”

“You know when you start calling each other ‘Mom’ and ‘Dad’ that you have entered a new phase of life and are no longer newlyweds.”

“When you have kids, then you’re like, ‘whoa, it’s definitely not about us anymore.’”

Cheers!

Congratulations to all of the couples featured in this edition of inRegister Weddings! From soirées here in Louisiana to celebrations from California to Rhode Island, each event was a unique—and beautiful— reflection of the love each of you shares. We are honored to be a part of this milestone in your lives together.

“If you marry the right one and do it the right way, you shouldn’t ever move out of the newlywed stage.”

One aunt. Well, she’s not great at answering texts. I’ll get her thoughts another day, because I so value their insight on this topic. Once I explained my feelings regarding my own status and its dictation of my marriage experience classification, one wonderful aunt started offering “simple” recipes she believes I can conquer.

Hungry Husband Soup by Julie Vascocu

2 cans black beans

1 can Mexican corn

1 jar salsa, medium or hot

2 cups water

Heat and serve!

Good served with cornbread and tortilla chips.

Now that I can handle!

As mentioned earlier, my dad can cook—he makes the most wonderful gumbo—and my mom knows how to roast a chicken, or so she says, but I would easily say that 33 years in, they might still be newlyweds. The love my parents share is something to be studied. They have instilled in my sister and me what it is like to be lifelong newlyweds, and I’m so glad they did.

It’s such a gift to be with someone who isn’t worried about casseroles—yes, I’m back to that. Thank goodness my husband doesn’t like meatloaf. And praise the Lord, he has never asked me to roast, braise or do anything else to any cut of meat or poultry. But even if he did, well, I probably wouldn’t.

Of course, it would be great if I knew how to cook. And maybe I will work on that soon. But right now, I’m still in the newlywed window. If I’m lucky, I’ll be here for quite a while. Perhaps 33 years? I’m not sure. Ask my parents.

Looking forward,

GARRETT NUSSMEIER AND ELLA SPRINGFIELD’S NEXT CHAPTER AS A COUPLE STARTED WITH A LAKESIDE PROPOSAL

Garrett Nussmeier left it all on the field with his surprise engagement to high school sweetheart Ella Springfield at her family’s lake home in Grand Lake, Oklahoma.

Just two short months before Garrett was set to start as quarterback for the first game of the 2025 LSU football season, he dropped to one knee to ask Ella for her hand in marriage.

While she was aware an engagement would be happening sometime soon, she says the time and place came as a complete shock. “We’ve never been able to spend the summer together because he had football workouts and I would be with

my family at our lake house,” she says. “The engagement happened around 6 p.m., and I was dropping him off at the airport the next morning at 8 a.m. because he had to get back to workouts. The whole next day, I was like, ‘Did that actually happen?’”

With the lake house in a remote area, it was no easy task to get both Garrett and Ella’s loved ones there for the proposal. But knowing that the vacation home is Ella’s happy place, and that she had requested an engagement far from a football field, Garrett said he was determined to make it happen.

“My lake house was the last place I thought it would happen, and it was the best place it could have happened at,” Ella says. “He knows me so well!”

Ella and Garrett met while in high school in Dallas. At the time, Garrett had recently relocated to Texas after his father got a coaching job with the Dallas Cowboys. “I think about how his dad’s career could have had them living anywhere, but he just so happened to get Dallas,” Ella says. “I’ve always thought that is a crazy part of our story.”

With Dallas being Ella’s hometown, the place they met and, recently, the place where they have moved in together, it only makes sense that it also serves as the location of their wedding, which is tentatively set for early 2027.

“I’m so excited for what’s to come,” Ella says. “This truly is a mark of a new chapter in both of our lives.”

The Saint Restaurant’s Chicken Lafourche

St. Francisville has always been known as a charming wedding destination, but its appeal has been turbo-boosted lately by a raft of stylish downtown venues. The design-forward St. Francisville Inn, along with the recently opened The Mallory reception hall and elegant Hotel Toussaint, work together to create memorable, boutique experiences. The Inn’s restaurant, The Saint, prepares celebratory Southern fare like the chicken Lafourche, a dish created

by Chef Michael Dardenne. “It’s one of our newer entrees that’s taken off really well,” he says. The flavorful roulade features a pounded organic, hormone-free chicken breast stuffed with the restaurant’s fresh jumbo lump crabmeat filling. It’s broiled in white wine, butter, roasted garlic and fresh thyme and finished with tasso cream sauce. It’s plated with garlic haricot verts and oven-roasted tomatoes. “We don’t do a lot of chicken on the menu,” Dardenne says. “So, with this dish, we really wanted to bring it.”

THE DETAILS

Little THINGS

A wedding day is a whirlwind. It goes by in a flash. But increasingly, brides are carving out quiet moments to savor the sentimental occasion. In an aesthetically pleasing corner of the Country Club of Louisiana, bride Nicole Francois Anzalone took a moment to herself—well, accompanied by her photographer, Lennon James Photography. The pair captured a sweet moment prior to the chaos that ensued after she slipped on her Rita Vinieris wedding gown. See more of Nicole’s wedding starting on pg. 74.

A

WEDDING DAY IS ROOTED IN ROMANCE, AND SO ARE THE TRENDS GUIDING WEDDING GOWN STYLES

Romance is in the air, and design elements that evoke that same sentiment are guiding wedding gown styles. Lace, bows and delicate detailing are trending in bridal fashion, and for a day all about love, these design details add even more allure.

“Romantic elements continue to be one of the most soughtafter details in today’s wedding gowns, as brides look for designs that feel both timeless and emotionally expressive,” says Bustle operations and social media manager Gabrielle Godbery. “Soft textures, delicate detailing and dimensional lace all contribute to that unmistakable sense of romance.”

“And don’t forget the charming details,” notes Bridal Boutique store manager Robin Gilley. “Bows and pearls add just the right amount of flair, resulting in dresses that feel both trendy and romantic.”

THESE TRENDING WEDDING VEILS ADD DRAMA TO BRIDAL LOOKS

Wearing a veil for one’s walk down the aisle is an age-old tradition that symbolizes the transition from woman to wife. Through the years, veils have become a way to enhance a bridal look to an ethereal moment, whether it be through unique designs or dramatic lengths.

“Veils should never be an afterthought,” says Gabrielle Godbery, Bustle operations and social media manager.

“A veil elevates a bridal look by adding soft, romantic dimension that instantly transforms a beautiful gown into a true bridal moment,” Blush Bridal Salon co-owner and director of operations Nikki Gallmann says. “It frames the bride, enhances the silhouette and creates the emotional, picture-perfect feeling of walking down the aisle.”

Child’s Play

WEDDINGS ARE GOING TO THE KIDS THANKS TO STACIE GRIFFIN’S NEW ON-SITE CHILDCARE BUSINESS

As a second-generation teacher and a mother, Stacie Griffin has always had a passion for working with children. She knows how tough it can be to find dependable babysitters, and she understands the even bigger challenge of managing them during events.

That understanding inspired her to create something weddings and other big events have been missing: on-site childcare. From coloring books and reading nooks to dinosaurs and bouncy balls,

Griffin’s The Wedding Nanny Concierge offers activities that meet a wide range of children’s needs, bringing a new level of ease to events and allowing kids to join in on the fun. While the service focuses on weddings, it also supports a variety of events where on-site sitting services can make a big difference.

“There was a time when I had friends getting married, and they had no-children weddings,” explains Griffin. “As a parent, I experienced how hard it is to find a babysitter, especially when your

family is going to the same event.”

Her family plays an important role in the business. With a retired kindergarten teacher for a mother and a niece who is learning the ropes, Griffin’s team is rooted in experience and a genuine love for kids. She says that seeing children, parents and couples enjoy themselves at events is her biggest motivation. “Watching the events run smoothly without the crying or parents having to walk out with their child helps me know that I’m making a difference,” she says. With parents enjoying a

guilt-free night out, newlyweds and hosts can spend time with fully present guests. And while parents are always welcome to stop by the designated childcare space to check in or drop off snacks, Griffin ensures that all ring bearers, flower girls and other little guests stay safe and receive what they need throughout the event. The Wedding Nanny Concierge’s mission is to create events where guests of every age can be a part of and enjoy the memorable moments. theweddingnannyconcierge.com

Camera Ready

Some artistic disciplines aren’t born out of a class, but from community. While studying marketing at LSU, Eric Garcia was that guy guaranteed to have his camera in hand at a party, always capturing unexpected angles and details his friends loved more than the average “say cheese” snaps.

He’s still never taken a photography course, but this creative passion led the energetic Houma native and long-distance runner to make senior portraits for his friends, learn and explore on his own, and eventually leave his day job to launch Geaux Garcia, focused on personally powerful wedding photography and family portraits.

He has shot hundreds of weddings across South Louisiana and the country, and his photo galleries are filled with depth, patterns and textures used in playful ways. Throughout, the confidence and calm of his subjects are abundantly clear. So recognizable is his style and brand that many who discover him on Instagram assume his name is actually “Geaux.”

“I call myself ‘Geaux’ sometimes, too,” Garcia says with a laugh.

An audience recognizing an artist is one thing, but an artist knowing himself well, too, is another. And the better they do, the more they’re able to authentically express their art. For Garcia, that means acknowledging the perfect bullseye he is to the Type 2 Enneagram personality—known as encouraging, easygoing helpers.

“If you’re a bride, you’ll be

comfortable and confident, and I’m going to make you feel like a supermodel because I’m going to hype you up all day,” Garcia says.

“That’s just my natural personality. I just want everyone to feel comfortable around me, and in front of my camera, and not intimidated at all.”

Just like when he started shooting pictures for fun, Garcia still uses his camera for connection, and he values the ability to lean on his community of photographer friends,

Hometown: Houma, Louisiana

Artistry: Wedding and family portrait photographer Online: geauxgarcia.com, @geauxgarcia on Instagram

too. Bridesmaids he photographs become his brides, and then they become his families with children Garcia is the first to photograph. Former groomsmen have even worked on the 1917 cottage Garcia has renovated and redesigned. The bridal party never ends.

The greatest reward for Garcia, beyond families cherishing his images for years, is when a wedding

guest leans over and says to him with genuine joy, “You look like you’re having fun!”

“My response to that is always that I do truly believe I’m doing what God gave me to do,” Garcia says. “Every day I wake up, and I’m blessed to get to do this, to photograph these weddings, and to watch these friends’ babies grow up. It really is the coolest thing.”

Gravy Good

A ROASTED CHICKEN RECIPE FOR NEWLYWEDS TO WHIP UP TOGETHER BY BRANDY GORDON • PHOTOS BY COLLIN RICHIE

Congratulations!

You are married, and with marriage comes a whole new set of responsibilities. I still remember getting settled into married life and realizing that now I had to concern myself with what two people would eat daily. No more girl dinners of microwave nachos and a glass of wine—though I still do this from time to time.

Once you get a few quick recipes under your belt that you both enjoy, though, the dinner process becomes much easier, especially when you work together. Cooking as a couple is excellent bonding time, and it is even more fun to enjoy a meal that you worked together to prepare!

As a newlywed, I often reflected on what my mom and grandmother did. I vividly remember my mom and grandmother cooking certain meals on certain days. Now that I have been married for 11 years and have two children, I know that this was no coincidence. There is simplicity in routine.

There was always a red bean Monday, and at least one day of the week, we were eating spaghetti and meatballs. Once I started to look at meal planning from a simplistic point of view, I began to develop a toolbox of simple weekday recipes.

One of the first meals I mastered as a newlywed was delicious roasted chicken. I love that this is a versatile dish that can be served with just about anything, though I am partial to mashed potatoes. This meal is so simple, but it gave me a feeling of “knowing what I’m doing” in the kitchen. The beautiful aroma of the roasted chicken, along with fresh rosemary, spices and garlic, would fill the home. I even throw in some fresh veggies under the chicken for added heartiness.

Since we are roasting the chicken, we will put the chicken in the oven, uncovered, at a high temperature and immediately lower it. This will result in a crispy, browned skin with a moist, flavorful center. I also do not add liquid to the bottom of the pan because I want to roast the chicken rather than steam it. Lastly, I love using roasted chicken drippings to make chicken gravy to serve over mashed potatoes or white rice. My husband loves it, and I hope you do too!

Roasted Chicken

1 (4- to 6-lb.) whole chicken (neck and giblets removed)

2 Tbsp. olive oil

½ cup butter, cubed and softened

2-3 garlic cloves, minced

4 Tbsp. fresh rosemary, minced

2 Tbsp. fresh parsley, minced

1-2 tsp. kosher salt

1 Tbsp. poultry seasoning

1 Tbsp. Creole seasoning

1 tsp. onion powder

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. smoked paprika

1 tsp. Badia Complete Seasoning (optional)

2 medium carrots, halved and cut into 2-in. pieces

1 stalk celery, chopped

2 medium white onions, quartered

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Rinse chicken with cold water inside and out, and pat dry with paper towels.

In a small saucepan over low-medium heat, add olive oil and melt butter. Stir in garlic, rosemary, parsley and dry seasonings, and mix well. Sauté until garlic becomes fragrant, about 1 minute. Remove from heat and allow to cool enough to be handled.

Add carrots, celery and onions to bottom of a shallow roasting pan. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Add a rack to pan.

Place chicken breast side up on rack and tie drumsticks and wings together with twine. Rub half of butter-spice mix under skin of breast side and back side of chicken. Rub

remaining spices on outside of chicken. Place chicken in preheated oven and immediately reduce heat to 375 degrees. Roast chicken for about 20 minutes per pound or until temperature of breast meat registers 165 degrees.

Remove chicken from oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes in pan. After chicken has cooled, transfer to a cutting board and let rest for an additional 10 minutes before carving.

*Do not forget to reserve pan drippings for gravy.

Gravy

½ cup drippings from roasted chicken ½ cup all-purpose flour

3-4 cups water or chicken stock

Garlic powder to taste

Onion powder to taste

Creole seasoning to taste

In a heavy-bottom pot or skillet over medium-high heat, add chicken drippings. Stir in flour, and continue to stir until roux starts to darken. As roux starts to turn brown, reduce heat to medium and keep stirring. Once it reaches a milk chocolate brown color, stir in 3 to 4 cups chicken broth or water. Season to taste with garlic powder, onion powder and Creole seasoning.

PROUD MARY’S SPEAKEASY IN ST. FRANCISVILLE SET THE SCENE FOR ALLISON MEADOR AND TAYLOR SULLIVAN’S WEDDING AFTER-PARTY

her second

DAVIS PHOTOGRAPHY
For
look of the night, Allison Meador changed into a short dress by Senstudio, sourced from I Do Bridal Couture’s Covington location.

The wedding day of Allison Meador and Taylor Sullivan was full of sweet sentiments, starting with the ceremony, held in the same church that Taylor’s parents were married in. With the groom growing up in St. Francisville and the couple moving there after marriage, the wedding was not only a celebration of their love but also a testament to the strong roots of the small town. And to end the night, the couple had the first-ever after-party and private event at Proud Mary’s speakeasy, located within Big River Pizza Co.

“I wanted our wedding to be classic and elegant,” Allison explains. “But for the afterparty, we wanted it to be more fun. The interior design of Proud Mary’s is so cool, and it was the perfect vibe for the final part of the night.”

When the couple reached out to the owners about renting the space for the after-party, the owners said they were just discussing adding such an offering. “We had a lot of people coming from out of town for the wedding, so it was just a lot more fun for them to be able to stay out and get to see more of where I was going to live,” Allison says.

With their wedding reception held at The Mallory right next door, guests could simply walk across the lawn to reach the next location. Because it was a winter wedding, they began the ceremony early enough to still have sunlight for photos. “But nobody wants to end the night at 10:30 p.m.,” the bride laughs. “I remember the band announcing that the next song would be their last, and I was like, there’s no way! It just

flies by, but luckily, we got to have more time with guests at the after-party.”

Allison says she would strongly encourage other couples to do the same for their wedding. “For me, I was on the dance floor the entire time at our reception,” she says. “So that was another really great part of the after-party: we got to really talk with our guests.”

And in the intimate setting of Proud Mary’s, guests dined on pizza from Big River Pizza Co. and savored the ending of a beautiful day, celebrating the love of the sweet couple and the welcoming town they now both call home.

“I wanted our wedding to be classic and elegant. But for the afterparty, we wanted it to be more fun.”

Mike the Tiger was at the top of Nely Ward and Brandon Berrio’s guest list for their August nuptials. With a ceremony at The Chapel followed by a reception at Lod Cook Alumni Center, the celebration found its footing beneath the stately oaks of LSU campus. For Mike’s reception appearance, a custom jacket by Queen of Sparkles was crafted, complete with the couple’s last name embellished with plenty of sequins. “When I think back on our wedding day, the one detail that stands out the most is the absolute explosion of happiness,” Nely says. “We basically lived on the dance floor all night, surrounded by all of our favorite people who came ready to celebrate big.” See more of the big day on pg. 98.

FROM AN OPERA HOUSE CEREMONY TO A RECEPTION CENTERED AROUND LIVE MUSIC, MICHAELA MITCHELL AND JAY WARREN’S NEW ORLEANS WEDDING SET THE TEMPO FOR THEIR NEXT CHAPTER BY LAURA

PHOTOGRAPHY BY SEPTEMBER COMPANY

ichaela Mitchell and Jay Warren’s wedding day was first and foremost about family.

But fun came as a close second.

The couple met as cocounselors at Mississippi State University’s welcome week and were later paired up again as lab mates. They dated through the rest of undergrad and into their post-graduate studies—she’s a nurse, he’s a doctor. When Jay proposed around Thanksgiving of 2023, Michaela immediately jumped into planning mode. First order of business? Finding a venue that could accommodate Michaela’s large extended family and guest list, about 400 people in total. The couple quickly homed in on New Orleans for its atmosphere,

venues and sentimental ties.

Their parents both met in the Crescent City, and the couple felt that tying the knot there would pay homage to their relationships.

Michaela, a Baton Rouge native, also grew up visiting New Orleans just about every weekend, she says, for Saints and Pelicans games, Mardi Gras or other events near her family’s condo across from the Saenger Theatre. And Jay, though raised in Gulfport, had family in the area. Still, most guests lived out of state and would be traveling to Louisiana for the wedding.

“If they were going to come to Louisiana, they needed the full-blown New Orleans experience,” Michaela says.

Music, a shared passion between Michaela and Jay, would help bring that vision to life.

The couple was married at Marigny Opera House, surrounded by family and friends, on April 12, 2025. Jay’s longtime youth pastor performed the ceremony, while Michaela’s ring featured gold from her father’s band, and her bouquet was wrapped with lace from her mother’s veil.

Michaela, a practicing Catholic, says she felt the venue’s history and grand architecture tied back to her faith. She liked that the Opera House was a deconsecrated church—and that Beyoncé’s sister Solange Knowles had been married there, too.

For the reception, the couple zeroed in on the Civic Theatre for its stage, size and the lively parties they’d seen thrown there.

Fitting with the venue and the couple, Michaela says she knew they had to secure a top-notch band. As fans of the Bee Gees, she and Jay specifically wanted a group

who could belt out “How Deep Is Your Love” for their first dance. New Orleans’ Blue Rhythm delivered, perfecting a P.J. Morton cover of the hit, playing through the night (no breaks) with a full horn section and leading the party down Poydras Street in a second line.

One of Michaela’s major hopes for the night was that the dance floor would be packed. She says she was happy to learn that the only thing keeping guests from boogying was the standout Louisiana-inspired cuisine from Black Pearl Catering Co.

Think: grillades and more.

“People kept telling me ‘I really wanted to get more food, but I didn’t want to leave the dance floor.’ ...

That was a good problem to have,” Michaela says.

Her other hope was that the wedding would uniquely represent her and Jay.

Almost a year into married life, she feels that it achieved just that. Just like them, the day was thoughtful, musical and full of life.

WITH SHOWERS ON THE RADAR, MAGGIE BREELAND AND CALEB PASSMAN’S COLORFUL NUPTIALS BRIGHTENED UP THEIR SUNLESS WEDDING DAY

• PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANNA BABIN PHOTOGRAPHY

o couple wants to hear that there’s a chance of rain on their wedding day, but that’s exactly what Maggie Breeland and Caleb Passman had to plan for. Of all days, pesky rain clouds hovered over Infinity Farms in Carriere, Mississippi, on their March wedding date.

“The week before, I started stressing about the rain,” Maggie recalls. “But everyone was like ‘There’s a wedding day magic where everything is just fine.’”

With outdoor tents, second-line umbrellas, bold décor and colorful bridesmaids’ dresses, that statement proved to be true.

With Maggie’s color palette of pinks, oranges, yellows and purples (one she decided on—and pinned on Pinterest—early on) and the help of planner Angela DiVincenti Babin of Angela Marie Events & Florals, the venue was transformed, bringing some muchneeded brightness into the space with blooms and mismatched linens. Maggie says she didn’t want any aspect of her wedding to be boring.

It all started with an outdoor ceremony that gave “garden vibes,” according to Maggie. Guests were kept safe from any potential drizzles under a draped tent. Grand bouquets set the stage, but more added hues came from wedding guests who took the couple’s dress

code of “colorful formal cocktail attire” very seriously.

“I just love color,” Maggie says. “I love a good black and white wedding, but I feel like it should be lively, and I just wanted everyone to kind of match the vibe. … I was like, ‘As much color as possible, no denim.’ And no one disappointed.”

The mood was further set by Baton Rouge’s The Original Magnolia String Quartet. Tunes ranged from “Yellow” by Coldplay to “Kiss” by Prince. The quartet continued, backing the chatter of the colorful cocktail hour where guests grabbed from an Asian-inspired selection of passed apps from Gilded Artichoke Catering Co. and washed down bites with drinks from Tippy Tap Co.

It was at this point in the day that a sprinkle finally made itself known, so per advice from Babin, Caleb and Maggie cut the cocktail hour short with a second line to the reception. The couple’s decorative parasols and guests’ clear umbrellas doubled as dance props and rain coverage.

Inside, it didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill with a sea of the Passmans’ favorite people. Lafayette wedding band Rouge Krewe kept the vibe alive with high-energy covers and fog guns, inviting Maggie and Caleb on stage to handle them.

As a bride who loves details, it was important for

Maggie to fill the day with little nods to things she and Caleb loved. The result was a collection of personalized touches that almost allowed for a game of I Spy. Inside Caleb’s custom suit from Stitched in Las Vegas was the toile designed by Fleur Art & Designs that was used for the wedding invitation envelope. And guests could spot the couple’s pup Sprig on cocktail napkins.

But there was more for guests to ooh and ahh about, like a bookshelf holding heirloom wedding mementos, and not one, not two, but five mini groom’s cakes, all topped with icons representing Caleb’s favorite things, like sushi and golf.

The Passmans also opted to reimagine some traditions. Instead of a traditional guestbook, guests jotted

messages on custom playing cards, and drinks were up for grabs before attendees took their seats to start the party early. In place of a bouquet and garter toss, Maggie and Caleb hit the stage to toss custom T-shirts into the crowd. Favors in the form of pink tennis balls from Sprig were also a hit. Maggie says she still gets snaps of wedding guests getting use of the custom merch.

Though a few things didn’t go according to plan, like the weather forecast causing them to get married under a tent instead of trees and have a shorter cocktail hour, Maggie feels everything worked out in a way that made the day special.

“I’d redo it tomorrow if I could,” she says.

MEREDITH LANDRY AND LARRY RASE SAID “I DO” IN
SANTA YNEZ VALLEY
BY KELSEA HOLDER

Meredith Landry’s thoughts didn’t wander beyond the circle of roses and candles surrounding her when Larry Rase asked for her hand in marriage. She was caught between delight and disbelief, her world reduced to white sand, the sound of breaking waves, and the love of her life on bended knee. In that moment, she couldn’t have imagined her wedding vows would be made far from that Southern shoreline in the hills of California’s wine country.

Before Larry proposed, Meredith casually mentioned on a family trip to the Santa Ynez Valley that a wedding among the vineyards would be magical. It was an offhanded remark, nothing more than a fleeting thought. Her mother, Debbie Landry, privy to the imminent proposal, latched onto it and began researching venues and dates. Her scouting led to Sunstone Winery in California, and Meredith realized her passing fancy could become reality.

Larry wasn’t immediately sold on a destination wedding. With roots in Louisiana, he pictured a grand ceremony with all his family and friends. Meredith didn’t need to do much convincing. Though

they had dreamed of celebrating with more than 300 loved ones, a smaller gathering promised more time with each guest. A tour of the California venues and the promise of a day with their nearest and dearest convinced Larry to say “I do” to the idea.

The couple had envisioned a full Catholic mass at Old Mission Santa Inés in Solvang, drawn to its hand-painted walls and proximity to Sunstone Winery. But when the families visited the mission, they discovered the ceiling had begun to cave in, and repairs wouldn’t be complete until after the wedding. With no other churches nearby, concerns mounted. Meredith turned to her mother, whose eye for design and resilient attitude made her a perfect party-planning partner. “My mom has always had the best parties. Everything she touches is amazing,” says Meredith. “I just kept thinking to myself, ‘Just trust Debbie.’ It was a team effort, and I absolutely couldn’t have done it without her.”

Between Debbie’s tenacity and wedding planner Davia Lee’s ingenuity, everything ultimately fell into place. The mission granted a rare exception, given the unusual situation, allowing the couple to exchange vows with a full mass in the grounds’ splendid gardens.

Though they wed under a greenery-draped pergola and celebrated with a reception in a winery that felt like a Tuscan villa, Meredith and Larry brought pieces of Louisiana with them. Vendors received baskets filled with Tony Chachere’s, Café du Monde beignet mix, and sugar from Meredith’s family’s sugarcane farm. Sidecar Cocktail Co. crafted signature drinks, the Remy-rita and Coop’s Old Fashioned, honoring the couple’s beloved dogs. Of course, homage was paid to LSU. Death Valley made its way to the Santa Ynez Valley in the form of a groom’s cake shaped like Tiger Stadium, courtesy of Autumn Cakes. It was just enough to keep a little bayou by them.

As the sun sank behind the vineyard hills, Meredith and Larry reveled with the people they loved most. Their wedding day was ending, but the after-party and their happily ever after were just beginning.

ANNA CLAIRE LUSCO AND SPENCER GLASS PAINTED THE CRESCENT CITY PINK FOR THEIR VALENTINE’S DAY WEDDING WEEKEND
• PHOTOGRAPHY BY CATHERINE GUIDRY

nna Claire Lusco had her wedding to Spencer Glass set for April 4.

The ceremony and reception venues, two non-negotiables for her, were set, and she was preparing for a sunny, spring wedding day. But then plans changed.

“Spencer had a friend getting married on the same day,” Anna Claire recalls. “So we decided to pivot.”

With Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl taking place in New Orleans, there were few available dates. However, when February 15 was offered as an open date for both Immaculate Conception Jesuit Church and the Old Ursuline Convent, it felt like fate.

“My parents’ 30th anniversary was that same week, February 10, and they got married in the same church,” Anna Claire says. “The only hangup was that it had to be a day wedding.”

Initially unsure of a 2:30 p.m. ceremony time, Anna Claire says she decided to embrace it. An abundance of daylight allowed her to transform the gardens of the Old Ursuline Convent into a true garden party.

Pink is her favorite color, and with the wedding taking place on Valentine’s weekend, Anna Claire decided to fully commit to a monochromatic color palette. Wedding planner Brooke Casey brought to life the fuchsia-toned dream with lush florals by Root Floral Design featuring roses and hydrangeas, in addition to an abundance of candles, throw pillows and more. Anna Claire’s 20 bridesmaids also helped bring in the color, with each of their dresses in a different pink shade.

“I had each of them pick their own dresses, and I really wanted them to have fun with it,” Anna Claire says. “I love how it turned out.”

For Anna Claire’s own dress, she chose a Monique Lhuillier creation that she found with her mother in New York City.

“I had been living in Washington, D.C, and I was sad to be moving,” Anna Claire says. “My mom suggested that we make it a happy weekend and go and try on every dress in New York City. We had a blast! I tried on maybe 75 dresses, and the one I chose was the last one I tried.”

To complete her bridal look, Anna Claire enlisted the help of family. Her maternal grandmother owns Reid’s Jewelry in north Louisiana. Spencer had worked with her to design Anna Claire’s engagement ring and wedding band. Now, an emerald and diamond ring and earrings were borrowed from her for Anna Claire to don on her wedding day.

“What’s the saying? Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” Anna Claire says. “That was my something borrowed, and it was so special.”

As the wedding party second-lined to the afterparty at The Gold Mine Saloon, following that afternoon’s first parade of the Mardi Gras season, Anna Claire says she felt an overwhelming sense of joy. Joy that her daytime wedding had turned out better than she could have imagined. And joy at the start of her new chapter with Spencer.

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS: WHY JANUARY IS A BREAKING POINT FOR FAMILIES

The new year brings pressure—new routines, new expectations, and old patterns that resurface fast. January exposes stress and feelings that we hid under busyness during the holiday season.

Here are 3 tips to keep from crashing emotionally:

1

2

Resolutions Aren’t Repair Plans: A gym membership won’t fix burnout, resentment, or emotional exhaustion. Real change starts with insight and healing, not willpower.

Post-Holiday Emotional Hangovers are Real: Kids return to school overwhelmed, parents jump back into work, and the home absorbs the shock. Counseling gives everyone a soft landing.

Stress Detox > Life Makeover:

3

Small adjustments in communication and routines reduce chaos more than dramatic reinventions. Build peace in tiny, consistent steps.

Intentionality and sentimentality were key in creating a magical Rhode Island wedding day for Madelyn Redmond and Cobin Leindecker

It all started on TikTok. The wedding planning, that is. The love story begins many years prior to the advent of the popular social media app, back when Madelyn Redmond and Cobin Leindecker were just students at The Dunham School. But when Cobin proposed in the Bahamas in August 2024, Madelyn was already recalling her TikTok history.

“I immediately remembered seeing this TikTok of a bride at Rosecliff Mansion, and I just couldn’t get it out of my head,” Madelyn says of the venue, which was the site of filming for the first The Great Gatsby, in addition to now serving as a museum. “They were originally booked solid for two years, so the August Events team showed me so many other amazing venues, but nothing felt exactly right. Then, one day in December, I got a call from them telling me that there had

been a cancellation at Rosecliff and that the venue was now available on September 6. It felt like fate.”

From there, the couple leaned on Tiffany Pilgrim and Maranda Cardinale of August Events. Madelyn narrowed down her priorities: showstopping florals, a waterfront ceremony and a seated dinner.

“I was in PA school, so I waited until my May graduation to choose most of the details,” Madelyn recalls. “But I’m a decisive person, so I knew what I wanted.”

And what she wanted was a classic vibe that served to showcase the natural beauty of the venue. White florals. Plenty of candles. A cocktail hour enhanced by a gospel choir. Tiffany and Maranda drew from Madelyn’s dress—a Monique Lhuillier creation found through a trunk show

at I Do Bridal Couture in Covington that effortlessly blended a classic, full ballgown with a modern neckline—to inform the wedding’s overall design.

“We always draw inspiration from the bride’s dress into our design process. It reveals so much about a bride and her vision for her wedding day,” Tiffany says. “We layered heavy candlelight onto romantic, textured linens to soften and contrast the ballroom’s strong architectural lines. Oversized florals in modern shapes kept the design properly scaled. The wedding cake had a modern design that mirrored both the lace and lines of her dress. Everything added impact without competing with the ballroom.”

Hear from Him & Her

How did you know he/she was the one?

C: I could not see myself spending the rest of my life without her. When I felt I couldn’t live without her, I knew she was the one.

M: He consistently shows me unconditional love, and I couldn’t imagine going through the big moments in life without him.

What is one detail that stands out when you think back on your wedding day?

C: I will never forget the feeling I got when I saw her walk down the front lawn.

M: Having my grandfather officiate our ceremony was one of the most special parts of the day. He plays such a huge role in my life, so having him marry us was a blessing. The gospel choir was a close second!

How would you describe your wedding in 5 words or less?

C & M: Timeless, intentional, detailed, intimate, fairytale

If you had one piece of advice for engaged couples, what would it be?

C & M: Your wedding is the only time in your lives that everyone you both love is gathered in the same place, at the same time. Remember that, and cherish the time you have with everyone together. Take a few minutes during your reception to stand back and take it all in. The day goes by incredibly fast. Take a moment to remove yourselves and appreciate all of the details.

See more of Madelyn and Cobin’s wedding day on pg. 90.

The mansion’s main ballroom was the center of the Leindecker celebration. The couple’s about 100 guests were seated for dinner in the space, and Madelyn made a second impression by debuting a half-up hairstyle and a new look for her dress, which was now without the long-sleeve, lace jacket she had worn for the ceremony.

“I don’t like to be the center of attention, so I didn’t even want to do the first dance,” Madelyn confesses. “But Cobin insisted.”

“I knew it would be a special moment we both would regret if we did not do it, and we are both glad we did,” Cobin says. “It was a time in the day when it felt like it was just us two. I chose the song ‘To The Ends of the Earth’ because I thought the song told a story of how I really felt about her.”

This sentimentality was carried to every detail of the couple’s intimate affair. Madelyn’s beloved grandfather officiated the ceremony, in which Madelyn’s

mother walked her down the aisle. And in addition to spending time with each guest during the seated dinner, Madelyn and Cobin wrote handwritten letters to each attendee, which served as their seating card. “People really made an effort to come that far and support us,” Madelyn says. “We wanted to thank them.”

Hosting the event out of town, the couple says they were able to have the intimate experience they were hoping for while also creating memories in a new place. Now, all Madelyn and Cobin need to do to relive their magical wedding weekend is to catch the next flight to the East Coast.

“It was the best day of my life,” Cobin says. “I got to marry my best friend and the girl I love most in this world at one of the nicest places I have ever been. Getting to marry your best friend, waterfront, where The Great Gatsby was filmed, is a very special feeling that I’m so grateful for.”

NICOLE FRANCOIS AND JOSHUA ANZALONE

November 14, 2025

Some love stories feel destined long before the couple ever meets, shaped by childhood memories, family traditions, and the places that formed them. For Nicole and Josh, that foundation began with the warmth of their hometowns, especially the many gatherings at Nicole’s parents’ home in Hammond. Holidays, milestones, and countless family moments quietly strengthened their bond as their love grew year after year.

But it was Baton Rouge, where they moved together in 2018, that became the center of their story. It’s where study sessions turned into dreams, latenight conversations became plans, and where they truly grew into the people and partners they were meant to be.

Baton Rouge held their ambitions, their community, and the life they were building together.

They envisioned a wedding that honored both worlds: the roots that grounded them and the city that became their forever. From their engagement party at The Gilmour to their “ringing in the wedding year” shower in Hammond, every moment beautifully blended past and present.

Their wedding at St. George Catholic Church and the Country Club of Louisiana was the perfect tribute. This elegant, deeply Southern celebration reflected where they came from and the future they’re ready to embrace.

Josh proposed after five years of dating, along the Mandeville lakefront by Rip’s on the Lake, a spot already rich with meaning. We were anxiously awaiting news about PA school and the fear of being separated, but in that moment, all I felt was joy. It was a moment we’d dreamed about, and when it finally happened, it felt surreal and perfect.

Every celebration leading up to the wedding became a love letter to Baton Rouge and the people who shaped our story. Our engagement party at The Gilmour was beautifully planned by Events & Design by Nancy, and our couple’s shower at my parents’ home embraced a “ringing in the wedding year” theme with cigars and vino. I celebrated my bridal shower at The Greenery, while Josh enjoyed his bachelor trip to Bay St. Louis, and my bachelorette weekend took place in Fredericksburg, Texas. Our rehearsal dinner at Jubans, our favorite restaurant, was the perfect start to our wedding weekend.

LAUREN HONEYCUTT AND LOGAN LEWIS

March 1, 2025

Lauren Honeycutt and Logan Lewis celebrated their marriage with a timeless black-tie affair in their hometown of Baton Rouge on March 1, 2025. Their story began when Logan—home on leave from the Air Force—met Lauren while visiting family for Thanksgiving. After an intimate courthouse ceremony in Minot, North Dakota, the pair looked forward to gathering family and friends for a grand celebration closer to home. The Gilmour offered the perfect backdrop, with broad oaks setting the tone for an elegant evening under the stars. The heartfelt ceremony was presided over by Fr. Ralph Howe and featured readings delivered by the couple’s brothers. Longtime family friend and wedding planner, Cheryl Palmer, brought the couple’s vision to life, creating a candlelit atmosphere that glowed with warmth and sophistication. TAYLOR LAFARGUE AND EVAN TIDWELL

June 6, 2025

Taylor LaFargue and Evan Tidwell were united in marriage in a beautiful and joy-filled ceremony at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Saint Francisville, Louisiana. Up on the hill surrounded by family and friends, the couple exchanged vows during an intimate Nuptial Mass, presided over by Rev. Bradley A. Doyle. The church’s warm historic atmosphere and the couple’s vibrant décor, set the tone for a day full of color, meaning and celebration.

Following the ceremony, guests gathered at The Mallory in Saint Francisville for a lively and elegant reception. The evening was marked by heartfelt toasts, laughter and a festive ambiance that perfectly reflected the couple’s style. The standout cake adorned with cascading sugar florals and topped with a charming vintage figurine pair (“something borrowed” from the grandmother of the bride) offered a perfect balance of artistry and nostalgia. From the glowing décor to the joyful energy on the dance floor, the night was a beautifully colorful celebration and explosion of the couple’s love.

MOLLY SHEPHERD AND BROOKS BRYAN

February 1, 2025

After six years of dating, Molly’s family decided it was finally time to include Brooks in the annual Christmas card photo— what Molly didn’t know was that the photographer was actually there to capture Brooks’ surprise proposal. Surrounded by loved ones, she said an enthusiastic “yes,” and the wedding planning began.

Molly and Brooks envisioned a wedding day rooted in faith, family, and the traditions they cherish. The celebration began with a meaningful mass at Molly’s childhood church, concelebrated by priests who have been close family friends for years. Thoughtful touches made the ceremony deeply personal.

Their reception at the Country Club of Louisiana was designed to be truly unforgettable. Guests were greeted by a woman in a Champagne-glass dress before The Michael Foster Project led a second line into the venue. The cake table featured four uniquely designed cakes, and the After 8 Band kept guests dancing all night.

Personal details filled the evening: custom Mardi Gras beads, signature drinks, beignets with café au lait, and the ultimate surprise: an LSU tailgate complete with the Alumni Band, Mike the Tiger, and a groom’s cake replica of the mascot. It was a night overflowing with joy, Louisiana flair, and unforgettable memories.

Addison and Austin Carnesi were married on May 31, 2025, in Metairie, Louisiana, with a beautiful ceremony at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church followed by a reception at Metairie Country Club. Their day blended timeless elegance with deeply personal touches, honoring family, tradition, and the story that brought them together. One of the most meaningful moments came when Addison gave Austin a handkerchief embroidered with his mother Jan’s handwriting—a heartfelt way to honor her memory and presence on their wedding day. The celebration also reflected the couple’s shared love of SEC football. Addison, born and raised in Baton Rouge and forever an LSU fan, and Austin, a proud Mobile, Alabama, native, bonded early on over the LSU-Alabama rivalry. Their second date was the unforgettable game where LSU claimed victory—an omen of good things to come. In a playful nod to that moment, Addison surprised everyone by wearing a tiger head during the reception. Surrounded by their favorite people, the Carnesis’ wedding day felt warm, personal, and full of joy—exactly the way they imagined it.

HELEN ALFORD AND NATHANIEL MCDAVID

May 31, 2025

Nathan and Helen’s wedding was a beautiful blend of tradition, family legacy, and LSU pride. The couple met while attending Louisiana State University—Helen as a clarinetist in The Golden Band from Tigerland, and Nathan as the spirited Mike the Tiger mascot. Fittingly, Nathan proposed to Helen in Tiger Stadium. They were married at St. James Episcopal Church, a place deeply rooted in Helen’s family history. Her great-grandparents were married there in 1942, followed by her parents in 1997 and her aunt and uncle in 2003. Nathan and his family are parishioners of St. James. Their wedding was presided over by Mother Lynn Hooks, St. James, and Father Michael Alello, St. Aloysius, continuing a legacy of love and faith that spans generations.

AFTERGLOW

You.

The local wellness experts you met in “Glow” return with in-depth skin care, beauty and restoration advice to make your 2026 resolutions stick.

ASK THE EXPERT aesthetics

Muse Medical Aesthetics & Laser offers clients much more than skin care. We offer an escape from the day-today stresses that take a toll on your health and physical appearance.

“People say they feel like they’re somewhere else,” says Co-Owner and Nurse Practitioner Kristi Muse. “We have snacks, a coffee bar, champagne, water … they can relax in a luxurious but welcoming atmosphere.”

Tapping that inner peace is a critical first step to a successful skin care regimen. The second step: finding the right procedure to enhance your natural beauty and promote your overall well-being.

Our Secret RF Microneedling procedure is one of our most popular and targets problem areas to revitalize and restore your skin.

HEALTHY SKIN HAPPENS FROM THE INSIDE OUT

WHAT’S THE SECRET?

The “secret” is in the collagen-boosting effects, which treat the signs of aging from the inside out. Collagen is what keeps our skin looking youthful, soft and smooth, but it diminishes as we age. Microneedles deposit radio frequency energy at various depths where you need it most, stimulating collagen production for months to come.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

The whole Secret experience takes about an hour with little downtime afterward. We recommend a series of three treatments to get started and then maintenance once a year. We apply a numbing cream, so it doesn’t hurt, and there’s just a little redness for about 48 hours. “People like that it’s your body stimulating its own collagen to repair itself,” Kristi says.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

Secret RF can be done anywhere on the body, but most people are concerned about the face and neck area. Co-Owner and Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner Kiara Muse says it’s beneficial for people who have lost weight and have some hollowness or loose skin.

Secret RF can also target stretch marks, cellulite, fine lines and even scars from things like tummy tucks or breast lifts.

“We’re moving beyond simply masking concerns and instead focusing on treatments that encourage the body’s natural healing processes, resulting in longer-lasting outcomes rather than temporary fixes,” Kiara adds. “This regenerative approach truly represents the future of aesthetics.”

ASK THE EXPERT manicure

At Sweetheart Nails, we specialize in manicures and can deliver on almost any service a customer’s heart desires. Current styles are where we shine. Manicure trends for 2026 are all about quiet luxury—sheer milky neutrals, chrome accents, chic line art. Whether your taste goes to understated glam or bold, showstopping color, our team can “nail” the look that is uniquely you! For your dream manicure in 2026, keep these cutting-edge and classic options front of mind:

5 WAYS TO GET NEXTLEVEL NAILS IN THE NEW YEAR

4. NAIL ART

1. BUILDER GEL

Customers asked for it, and we perfected it! Builder Gel manicures use a thick, gel-based product to create a durable layer over the natural nail. Unlike regular gel polish, it’s intended to add structure, not just color, and to strengthen brittle nails, fix chips or breaks and create custom shapes. After application the gel is cured under a UV/LED lamp. The result is a more natural look and stronger nails. Our technicians are now trained in this new service to help you protect your nails, while also adding a long-lasting finish.

2. DIP POWDER

A more natural alternative to acrylic, dip powder can strengthen without damaging

Nail art is something we do all day, every day. Our technicians can do almost anything—from 3D designs to gems, tortoise shell and even Disney themes. We love when clients bring in a picture of what they want, and our technicians bring their design to life.

5. POLISH

Our polish options are endless and include trusted brands like OPI and the newer Cat-Eye gel polish, which uses a magnet to move the sparkle around. Chrome powder is also trending for a metallic finish, while colors like burgundy, midnight blue, chocolate brown and very soft pink are in high demand.

Visit us for your next manicure. We offer free repairs within a week of service. If you break it, we fix it to keep you looking your best.

NATURAL, RADIANT SKIN IS WELL WITHIN YOUR REACH

AN INNOVATIVE FILLER

Made from your own blood and plasma, the all-natural Cellenis® Derma PRP filler helps your body regenerate collagen, encourages skin renewal and supports healthy blood vessel growth.

Used to target fine lines, wrinkles, pores or for overall tightening or volume replacement, PRP can be injected into any area on your face for immediate results.

The whole process takes about an hour and a half, with minimal downtime afterward and a lower price point than other fillers.

CUSTOMIZED FOR YOU

We can customize the procedure based

on your goals and target areas. “The top two complaints people come in with are under eyes and jowls,” Physician’s Assistant Brittany Lipoma says.

PRP also works for crepey skin, discoloration or volume loss in the jawline.

“Every patient has different, unique concerns,” adds Lipoma, who specializes in facial balancing. “We definitely make sure that we tailor it to their facial anatomy.”

LASTING EFFECTS

PRP filler by itself can last up to six months, but Nurse Practitioner Kady Lato recommends combining it with a traditional dermal filler for results for up to a year.

“People like to go that route just so they can have it last longer—and everybody wants that,” she says.

Both fillers also cause bio-stimulation, a process that encourages the body to heal itself and stimulates cell growth, so the effects are ongoing for up to two years.

“It’s more natural, and I think that’s where a lot of the aesthetics are heading,” Lato adds. “People like the natural results, and your skin just looks better.”

BREATHE EASY, LIVE BETTER: HOW REDSTICK DENTISTRY

TACKLES SLEEP APNEA AND TMJ PAIN

Many people brush off snoring or jaw pain as minor annoyances. At RedStick Dentistry, however, these are red flags that point to something much more serious: sleep apnea and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders. Led by Drs. Griff Lewis, Bryant Bourgeois and Chad Lacour, the team at RedStick Dentistry has developed a reputation for uncovering and resolving issues that often go undiagnosed for years. Dr. Lewis explains that obstructive sleep apnea is far more than a simple sleep problem. When a patient drifts off, gravity can pull the tongue and soft tissues back into the airway, causing it to collapse. The telltale snoring sound is often the body’s attempt to force air through a partially blocked passage. As the airway closes, the brain senses the lack of oxygen and reacts by clenching the jaw and pushing it forward to reopen the airway. This cycle repeats throughout the night, leaving patients exhausted, sore and at serious risk for long-term health problems.

“An apneic event is essentially a period of suffocation during sleep,” Dr. Lewis notes. Over time, untreated sleep apnea has been linked to heart attacks, high blood pressure, cardiovascular stress, weight gain and a host of other health concerns. Meanwhile, the constant clenching and grinding can wear down teeth, strain muscles and trigger or worsen TMJ disorders. What many patients don’t realize is that a dentist is often on the front lines of identifying these conditions. During routine exams, Dr. Lewis and his partners look for signs such as worn teeth, indentions on the tongue or cheeks, jaw tenderness or reports of frequent morning headaches and unrestful sleep. These subtle clues often lead to a life-changing diagnosis. For suspected sleep apnea, RedStick Dentistry offers at-home sleep testing, allowing patients to be evaluated in the comfort of their own beds rather than a sleep lab. If the results show mild to moderate sleep apnea, Dr. Lewis can fabricate a custom dental

sleep appliance. This device gently repositions the lower jaw forward, helping to keep the tongue from collapsing into the airway. For many patients, this small change translates into deeper sleep, improved daytime energy and reduced health risks.

TMJ treatment at RedStick Dentistry is equally comprehensive and highly individualized. The process often begins with a trigger point exam, during which Dr. Lewis carefully evaluates the muscles of mastication, as well as the neck and upper back, to identify areas of spasm or pain. From there, treatment may include targeted Botox therapy to calm overactive muscles, as well as specially designed day and night appliances that help reposition the jaw into a more comfortable position.

Over the years, Dr. Lewis has pursued advanced training, driven initially by his wife’s struggle with worsening jaw pain after standard treatment. That experience pushed him to study deeper muscle anatomy, higher-level injection techniques and innovative appliance designs. Today, RedStick Dentistry offers patients a wide spectrum of solutions that can be tailored and combined to fit each unique case.

From patients who can finally eat an apple again without pain, to those who are sleeping soundly for the first time in years, the results are often described as life changing.

For individuals who recognize their own struggles in these symptoms, RedStick Dentistry stands ready with the expertise, technology and compassion to help them breathe easier, live better and smile with confidence. Scan the QR code or visit redstickdentistry. com to learn more.

Lips rank as one of the most popular areas to treat at Louisiana Aesthetics & Skincare. Fillers are a universal service that can benefit anyone from 19 to 90. The results can be seen immediately and the procedure performed safely in our medical spa environment.

LIP FILLERS PROVIDE A NATURAL LOOK WITH LONGLASTING RESULTS

FLIP VS. FILLER

A “lip flip” is a Botox injection that results in a pouty upper lip, while lip filler can add volume, shape and definition.

of experience in nursing to fully prepare clients for the journey, taking the necessary time to ensure they know what to expect, remain comfortable throughout the procedure, and know what to do when they get home.

NICK AND MCCRANEY RUSSELL’S

SOUTHDOWNS HOME TELLS THE CHARMING STORY OF THE YOUNG FAMILY’S LIFE WITHIN ITS WALLS BY SALLY GRACE CAGLE

PHOTOGRAPHY BY KIM MEADOWLARK

“Nick wanted to feel helpful in the process, too, so we went with his opinion for the trim paint color, and when we discovered the shade was called ‘Par Four,’ it couldn’t have been more fitting,” McCraney says. “As a golfer, he was especially excited about that.”

“My mom’s best friend, Susan Maxwell, did all the sewing and went above and beyond to make everything so special,” McCraney says.
“I’m so grateful for everyone who poured love into this room. We will always treasure the memories tied to creating it.”
Custom-framed shadow boxes by Daryl & Sons hold baby gowns that were McCraney’s dad’s on the wall behind the daybed, adding the perfect personal touch.

After finding out the gender of their first child, a son named Robert Alexander, fondly referred to as Bo, Nick and McCraney Russell decided they wanted to do things a little differently their second time around. But not just any gender reveal would do. Instead of confetti cannons and colored cake, the nursery was at the center of this celebration, which would come only after the baby’s entrance into the world.

“I’ve always loved the idea of waiting until delivery to find out the gender,” McCraney says. “A surprise nursery felt like the best of both worlds: being able to feel prepared and have fun designing a beautiful space while still keeping the gender a mystery.”

The Russells enlisted the help of a close friend and designer, Helene Dellocono, to design the surprise space. To keep the gender a secret, Helene fully designed both a girl and a boy nursery for the couple to review. From there, she handled the project from start to finish, careful to keep even the smallest gender-revealing detail away from the eyes and ears of McCraney and Nick. “It was a very tough secret to keep,” Helene says with a laugh.

The first decision that was made was the selection of a Schumacher Borastapeter wallpaper in “Country Morning” for the nursery walls. Since blue was the color of choice for the Russells’ firstborn, Bo, for their second, a boy named John Henry, they opted for green. “The wallpaper was the jumping off point,” Helene says. “From there,

In the home’s main living space, soft blues and creams keep the room both cozy and fresh. we made all of the other selections, like paint trim color, fabrics, etc. It all fell into place once we found the perfect paper.”

With such a big secret at the center of the project, it was helpful for the friends that they all share a similar design style. Light, fresh and a little bit traditional, Helene says this mutual taste allowed the process to be seamless and fun.

“I know some people get anxious about working with friends, but we did not have that problem because we knew our styles aligned,” Helene says. “Working with them was my favorite part of this sweet project.”

The Russells’ Southdowns home was originally purchased by the newlywed couple in 2021. “We actually put in an offer on the same day it went on the market, before Nick could see it in person,” McCraney recalls. But with a corner lot, an open floor plan and wood beams and floors, it was a no-brainer. “We were living in an apartment before, and when we would walk the lakes, Nick would say he couldn’t wait to move into a house so he could mow the lawn.”

In the years since the home’s purchase Nick and McCraney have made each room their own, with their low-contrast and classic style pervading. From the living room walls awash in a sea-salt hue to the pastel Oushak rugs underfoot, there is a consistency and simplicity to each space’s design.

The furniture throughout the home is a collection of old and new pieces, including many items handed down from family and newer pieces collected as a couple, like the head dining room chairs found in Destin and recovered in a sage green fabric and the large Saliha Staib painting hanging in the dining room, which was a gift from McCraney’s paternal grandparents.

While the couple has made the house their own, major projects have been few, with the bones of the house remaining largely untouched. However, just a week prior to McCraney giving birth to John Henry, the floors throughout the entire home were redone. “We hadn’t anticipated doing this, so it was a whirlwind with them trying to finish the nursery and the floors, which got done the day before I got home,” McCraney says. “It’s actually pretty funny looking back at how

Large white turtle shells add dimension and texture to the space without overpowering the delicate details and comfortable atmosphere. The end table dining room chairs were sourced in Destin, Florida, by McCraney’s mother and recovered in a sage green fabric from P. Tree Textiles, with an embroidered trim that adds just the right amount of interest. The curtains hanging in the dining room have previously lived in both McCraney’s parents’ home and her older sister’s home.

The large painting in the dining room done by local artist Saliha Staib was a gift from McCraney’s grandparents. The hints of blue and cream tie in with the living room directly across from the painting, making each space cohesive with the next.

crazy our house looked the days before coming home. But walking in for the first time with the baby made it all worth it.”

“Things are going to happen, even at the most inopportune times,” adds Nick, noting that while the floors were being worked on, an unrelated leak in the ceiling added to the chaos. “You can never prepare for them, so my advice to new homeowners is just don’t stress over the inevitable. Looking back, a lot of the things that have happened to our home

have made great memories.”

And through each stage of life, and even in the midst of chaos, the Russells have filled their home with love, bringing two baby boys home to the first house the two have called home together. As the saying goes, it’s not the destination but the journey.

“Not everything will be perfect, and that’s OK, but it’s been so fun to make our home our own over the years,” McCraney says. “We’ve taken baby steps to getting it how we want it.

When newlyweds move into their first shared space, choosing the right furnishings is key to creating a home that feels both functional and beautiful.

A newlyweds’ registry is an invitation to design their first home together. A mood board or shared color palette can turn the process into a fun, creative moment and help maintain a cohesive vision. Thoughtful design begins with foundational items. Too often, we rush to fill a space, when what matters is focusing on pieces that anchor the home. Essentials like a sofa, counter stools, and a bed are a smart starting point.

Sofa: A well-made sofa anchors the living room and becomes the couple’s go-to spot for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying time together.

Counter

Stools: Kitchen counter stools provide flexible seating and a casual dining option, helping make the heart of the home both practical and inviting.

Bed: Investing in a bed crafted from solid hardwood or other high-quality materials ensures it will remain a reliable and stylish centerpiece of the bedroom for years.

When choosing foundational pieces, prioritize durability and quality. By investing in timeless, well-crafted items, newlyweds create a space that serves them for years and reflects the beauty and shared life they are building together.

Attention to Detail

It’s no secret that every “big day” has a common centerpiece: the dress. With many young girls searching for their preferred style long before a potential husband comes along, it’s the first thing on most wedding planning to-do lists. In the February 1962 issue of inRegister predecessor The Register, local salon owner Wanda Warmack acknowledges this sentiment. Something she stresses is the importance of smaller details and “grooming” to tie the special look together. Although trends in these subtleties are ever-evolving, Warmack explains they are key for brides who want “the unusual and the spectacular.”

“As all of the smart young moderns who throng our two salons, they are so eager to accept the changes which have come,” Warmack told The Register. “We know, and they seem to know, too, that a dated hair-do can throw a whole costume out of kilter.”

“Flirty hair fashions” of 1962 may seem exponentially different from the current clean and minimalistic trends we see today. But whether brides have swooped bangs and high bouffants or slick-back buns and Hollywood waves, it makes or breaks the look. The 1960s were a time when false eyelashes first gained popularity, and longer-lasting manicure options like dip nails and gel had not yet been invented. Though the methods were different, these special details were just as important then as they are now.

Warmack says one’s bridal season brings excitement, and regardless of changing trends, that will remain true for years to come. For soon-to-be brides and young girls planning far ahead, take it from a 1960s beauty expert: consider the details.
