A New Announcement

THIS YEAR MARKS the 30th anniversary of inRegister magazine, so we are highlighting 30 weddings in this issue in three different sections: The Season, The Location and Signature Weddings. And every one of them is as unique as the brides and grooms themselves. We are amazed at the attention to detail that seems to be essential to every wedding that takes place these days. Case in point: sparklers, and wine walls, and family crests, and fireworks and over-the-top floral masterpieces. Festive, indeed! We have a long history of featuring weddings of local brides and grooms in inRegister. It dates all the way back to the days of Orene Muse, publisher of our precursor The Register, who frequently spotlighted Baton Rouge nuptials from the magazine’s beginnings in 1948 through its closure in 1978. (See photo on page 98). Nine years ago, we launched inRegister Weddings, this stand-alone publication you are holding in your hands now. Isn’t it lovely? It’s so lovely that we are bursting at the seams. We have received so many fabulous wedding submissions every single month, that we haven’t been able to include them all on these pages. That is, until now. Starting in January of 2020, inRegister magazine will offer brides and grooms

the chance to guarantee their appearance in the issue by purchasing the new inRegister Wedding Announcements. The announcements will be professionally composed and copy-edited by our staff and be offered in a variety of full-page sizes with wonderful layouts to showcase your special day—with plenty of room for photos and details. Petritoli, Italy June 28, 2018

IT WAS A WEEKLONG celebration at the Palazzo Mannocchi in Petritoli, Italy, for Kathryn Juneau and James Maddi. The festivities included dinner in the town castle, wine tasting at a local vineyard, nuptials in a medieval Catholic church with violin and trumpet music during the ceremony, along with a second line band (from Italy) playing New Orleans jazz music to walk guests to the reception. “Our wedding party wore white, and we kept the décor simple to allow the setting of the small town to speak for itself,” says Kathryn. Serving only local wine at the reception, the couple ended the evening with their 60 guests dancing until sunrise in the castle’s dungeon. Photos by Paolo Ceritano.

West Point, New York September 1, 2018

HIGH ABOVE the cliffs of the Hudson River, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point was the ideal destination for the wedding of Christen Tanner and Zachary Foster. Zach graduated from the academy in 2007 and served eight years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot and captain. He also completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Christen carried several of Zach’s medals on her bouquet, including a Bronze Star and Aviation Wings. They exchanged nuptials at the historic Cadet Chapel, and a reception was held at the Thayer Hotel. They used a saber sword to cut the cake, and Zach gave gold West Point lapel pins to those in the wedding party who were not former military officers. Photos by H & H Photography.

Hot Springs, Arkansas September 15, 2018

SOUTHERN PINES and majestic oaks surround Anthony Chapel, the six-storytall structure in Hot Springs, Arkansas, made of floor-to-ceiling glass and large pine timbers. Here, light dances off the flagstone floors. It was the picturesque backdrop for the marriage of Rachel Eggie and Micah Gibbs. Rachel, a stylist, is usually behind the scenes at weddings, making brides and their wedding parties look their very best. Since weddings take up many of Rachel’s weekends, she and Micah decided their own wedding would be a small, intimate ceremony. The chapel in the woods of northwest Arkansas proved to be the perfect place. “We were just surrounded by God’s greatest gift, nature, and it was the most peaceful feeling,” says Rachel. The duo wrote their own vows and were married by their personal pastor. After the ceremony, they changed into casual attire, hit a local restaurant and danced with the DJ until well past midnight. Rosemary Beach, Florida December 15, 2018

INSPIRED BY architecture of the West Indies, Charleston and St. Augustine, the community of Rosemary Beach boasts classic homes and carriage houses, wood-plank pathways, bubbling fountains and more. Vacationers flock to this stretch of 30A during the summer months, but it proved to be just as charming (and less crowded) for the winter wedding of Kelly Mondello and Scott Landry. The venue was a natural choice for this couple—Kelly’s family had vacationed there for years, and Scott fell in love with it when he joined them. Kelly and Scott exchanged nuptials on the rooftop of The Pearl, a boutique hotel exuding Southern charm. “I love a destination wedding, especially when there is a connection between the location and the couple,” says Leslie Campbell, the bride’s sister who also served as her wedding coordinator. “What wonderful memories to have and always a special place to continue to visit as a married couple!” Photos by Jeannie Frey Rhodes Photography.

“It’s funny how people come into your life for a reason,” explains Holly Stars, who met Mark at a boxing class. “I learn new things about him every day.”

leading up to her November wedding day when a routine visit to the gynecologist changed everything. “That April, I remember sitting there thinking, ‘Man, things are going great,’” recalls Holly. “Shortly after, I went to my annual appointment and my doctor said she felt a lump. I didn’t think anything of it—after all, I’m not even old enough to be getting regular mammograms—but I got a mammogram the next afternoon just to be on the safe side. When they gave me the results, it was like time stood still.” Diagnosed with stage four, triple negative breast cancer, Holly says all she could think was “This can’t be right.” Faced with months of treatment and less-than-stellar odds, the

Put in the context of ordinary life, these problems are trivial. But to the bride-to-be, every small hiccup is a catastrophic nightmare. This pursuit of perfection was something Holly Hollis was used to implementing in all parts of her life. So, when her boyfriend Mark Stars popped the question on a cool October day at Oak Alley Plantation, she flew into a frenzy of preparation for her dream wedding day. Everything was going to plan

“In our first year, marriage has been the easy part,” Holly says. “Everything that has happened has enhanced our experience together.”

“After I called Town & Country Bridal to cancel the dress I had ordered for the original wedding, it turns out that they reached out to the designer and ended up surprising me with my dress.” And Holly says it is those surprises—and many more—that made her last-minute wedding day even more special than her well-planned Nottoway Plantation wedding could have been. “I don’t know if anyone has gotten to experience the love that I have,” she says. “People I didn’t even know did so much to make me feel like a bride. And I did. I wouldn’t let myself go there, but I know everyone thought I was going to die. The emotion of everything was so heightened. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.” Following the ceremony and reception dinner at Brennan’s, Holly and Mark’s lives continued with a seemingly endless cycle of doctor visits and grueling treatments. “They say your first year is the hardest,” remarks Holly. “But I don’t

think this is what they were referring to!” However, Holly, who refers to herself as a cancer unicorn in a nod to the rarity of her condition, says that the trials that have accompanied her first year of married life have only strengthened the relationship between her and Mark. “Throughout this entire experience, Mark has been the person I needed,” says Holly, tears filling her eyes. “He has never fallen apart and he has been great at encouraging me and making sure I never feel alone. He even offered to shave his eyebrows and head.” Looking back on her bridal experience, Holly says it’s okay that she didn’t have that picture-perfect year leading up to the big day. CELEBRATING BEAUTIFUL local weddings is a custom that dates back well beyond the current inRegister magazine to our predecessor, The Register. One of the many brides featured on that publication’s cover over the years was Carol Anne McKay, who married George Jefferson Terry Jr. at St. James Episcopal Church in 1962 and made the cover

of the June 16, 1962, issue. Her sisters Susan and Katherine, also pictured here, were among her attendants. According to the magazine, the wedding featured plenty of roses and the “utterly feminine color theme of pink and white,” elements that still prove popular among the couples in this year’s inRegister Weddings issue, more than 50 years later.
