ABOUT THIS LIST To help you find great dental care, inRegister commissioned Professional Research Services (PRS) of Troy, Michigan, to conduct a peer-review survey of hundreds of practicing and active dentists across the region. Dentists were asked to choose which of their peers they consider the very best, across seven different practice areas—endodontics, general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and prosthodontics. Dentists do not and cannot pay a fee for placement on the list, nor were they allowed to choose themselves for inclusion. All the final honorees were screened for proper credentials and review of any infractions through the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. The highest vote getters within each specialty who are in good standing with the state are included here in the inaugural inRegister Top Dentists list. LOUISIANA DENTAL CENTER started as the solo practice of Dr. Joey Lacoste in New Orleans’ 9th Ward in 1980. Since then, it has grown to include offices in the Baton Rouge area, including Zachary, Gonzales, Denham Springs and Addis (opening in September). Dr. Sean Owens, a partner in the practice, works hard to tailor each patient’s treatment in order to create the best experience possible. That could include anything from same-day visits to IV conscious sedation to maximum insurance coverage. “My goal is to provide a comfortable environment for my patients,” he says. “I love my profession and how it allows me to positively impact lives every day. God has blessed me beyond measure and I am truly grateful for the talents He has given me to help those in my care.” Dr. Owens finished a one-year hospital-based residency upon graduation from dental school. He has completed a 300-hour implant externship and has been named a fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He has served as president for the Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry and the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association. He recently received the Kathy Uebel Scholarship Award from the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration and, later this year, will receive his fellowship in the American College of Dentists. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations. Through Donated Dental Services, Dr. Owens provides free dental care for U.S veterans and others in need. He and his wife Rebekah teach Sunday school at Chapel on the Campus, and he volunteers as a soccer and baseball coach at Healing Place Church. He is also a member of the Dunham Men’s Club. He and Rebekah have three children—David, Jacob and Cecilia.

ONE OF THE unique aspects of this practice is that the team includes two prosthodontists and a family dentist, which offers a greater spectrum of knowledge and more comprehensive care. These multiple specialties, advanced degrees, in-house laboratories and CAD/CAM technology allow the practice to manage both simple and complex treatment plans quickly and efficiently. In fact, many treatments are completed in one day. All three doctors have taught as assistant clinical professors at the LSU School of Dentistry and provide continuing dental education to other practicing dentists. The practice was established by Dr. Michael Maginnis in 1973 and was the first
prosthodontic practice in Baton Rouge. He was joined in 1982 by Dr. Isaac “Gene” Appleton. Their post-graduate studies, along with years of experience in clinical and teaching situations, gave them expertise in a full range of services, including crowns, bridges, partial and complete dentures, and implant restoration.
