You’ll work in teams to develop a new business idea using a framework popular with technology businesses.

Explore how economists understand real-world decisions, both in markets and in everyday life. Take part in a short activity and then get hands-on with some of the creative tools and software used in our portfoliobased Economics programme.

BUILDING YOUR CREATIVE IDENTITY: PART 1

Want to make media but not sure where you fit in the wide world of the creative industries? Come and join the Creative Media Team to build up your own identity as a maker, with advice and practical experimentation!

CREATIVE NON-FICTION: FINDING OUR MOMENTS

This workshop is all about finding our ‘moments’ and the memories that resonate with us – what Virginia Woolf calls ‘Moments of Being’, which are like violent shocks in the cotton wool of nonbeing (getting up, making breakfast, going to work). The session will be interactive with writing exercises relevant for fiction and non-fiction – and Dr Lily Dunn will take you through how to write these moments vividly as building blocks for story. The perfect antidote to the blank page.

Literature is diverse and so are our own responses. In this session, you will encounter writing that challenges the generic conventions and standard narratives of ‘English literature’, in the process appreciating experimentation's centrality in literary production. STUDYING GEOGRAPHY AT BSU

In this session, you’ll learn more about our degree programme and student experience. We’ll begin with a short overview of key features of the degree and explore opportunities such as international field trips, work placements, professional placement year and semester abroad. There will also be time for you to meet with our student ambassadors and learn more about student life at BSU.

GOING PLACES WITH GEOGRAPHY: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND YOUR FUTURE CAREER

In this session, you’ll experience what it’s like to study human and physical geography at university and learn about how our modules will prepare you for a diverse range of future careers. You’ll have a short taster lecture in human geography that will show how course content links to real world issues. Then you’ll get to see some of our physical geography equipment such as total stations, differential GPS and drones, and learn about how our geography degree will provide you with the skills to use industry standard technologies and software.

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH TREASON

In Tudor England, treason was punishable by hanging, drawing and quartering or burning at the stake. In this session, students will role play different plots, coups and rebellions to shed light on Tudor politics and the ways in which even ordinary people could hold powerand even get away with treason.

This session explores the policy pledges and promises that comprise election campaigns, and gives you the chance to devise your own manifesto.
