The Bastrop region continues to emerge as one of the fastest-growing economic corridors in Central Texas. Fueled by strategic proximity to Austin, major infrastructure investments, workforce growth, and nationally recognized technology companies expanding operations locally, Bastrop County is experiencing transformational momentum across manufacturing, technology, education, entertainment, and commercial development.
One of the biggest drivers of recent economic activity remains the continued expansion of SpaceX and the Starlink manufacturing campus in Bastrop County. The company’s local presence has accelerated regional investment, increased workforce demand, and placed Bastrop on the map as a growing advanced manufacturing and semiconductor hub. According to the Bastrop Economic Development Corporation, SpaceX is expanding its Bastrop facility by more than one million square feet, representing over $280 million in capital investment and the creation of more than 400 jobs.
In March 2025, Greg Abbott announced a $17.3 million Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund grant to support SpaceX’s Bastrop expansion. State officials noted that the project is expected to become the largest semiconductor advanced packaging facility of its kind in North America. Additional reports released this spring indicate that the company has already begun installing manufacturing equipment at the Bastrop semiconductor packaging facility, with production anticipated to begin before the end of 2026. The facility is expected to package radio-frequency chips used in Starlink internet systems, helping SpaceX vertically integrate key technology production within Texas.
The broader impact of Musk-affiliated companies continues to reshape the regional economy. Alongside SpaceX and Starlink operations,
The Boring Company maintains a major Bastrop County presence, while related investments across Central Texas continue drawing engineers, suppliers, contractors, and supporting businesses to the region. Bastrop’s location along the SH 71 corridor provides companies with access to Austin’s workforce while maintaining lower development costs and significant room for expansion.
Beyond aerospace and technology, Bastrop County is also seeing major growth in media production, education, data infrastructure, and mixed-use development projects.
A 546-acre film and studio development known as Line 204 Texas recently broke ground along the Colorado River and is expected to become the first purpose-built studio lot in Texas. Meanwhile, actor Zachary Levi is leading the development of Wyldwood Studios, a 75-acre master-planned entertainment and studio project expected to include sound stages, hospitality components, restaurants, and amphitheaters. Portions of the development are projected to open in 2027.
Infrastructure growth is also accelerating across the county. A $1.4 billion data center campus is under development near Cedar Creek, with the first of four buildings scheduled for completion in 2026. At the same time, Bastrop ISD continues with campus expansion with a groundbreaking for elementary #10 coming soon to accommodate population growth, though student enrollment numbers are lower than projected by demographers.
Broadband investment is another significant regional priority. Bastrop County secured approximately $43 million in state funding to expand high-speed internet access to more than 10,000 homes and businesses throughout underserved portions of the county. Local leaders believe
expanded broadband access will strengthen economic competitiveness, support workforce development, and improve educational access for residents and employers alike.
Water sustainability and long-term infrastructure planning remain central to supporting future growth. Regional organizations such as the Lost Pines Groundwater Conservation District and the City of Bastrop are at the forefront balancing development with environmental stewardship.
The continued diversification of employers is helping Bastrop evolve from a primarily commuter community into a regional employment center with growing opportunities in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, government, logistics, media production, and technology.
Economic development leaders across Bastrop County continue to emphasize balanced growth, infrastructure readiness, workforce development, and quality-of-life investments. With more than 115,000 residents countywide and direct access to the Austin metropolitan area, Bastrop is increasingly viewed as one of Texas’ most strategically positioned growth markets.
While rapid growth brings challenges, including affordable housing demand, transportation planning, and infrastructure capacity, it also creates unprecedented opportunities for local businesses, workforce expansion, entrepreneurship, and regional investment.
As national companies continue investing in Bastrop County and our local leadership prioritizes sustainable development, the region is positioning itself as a key innovation and manufacturing hub for the future of Texas.

The 2026 State of the County Breakfast brought together business leaders, community members, and local stakeholders for updates on Bastrop County’s priorities, growth, and future

plans. Attendees heard from county leadership, including the County Judge and Precinct Commissioners, and participated in a live Q&A and round table discussions with department leaders.
The event supported the Bastrop Regional Chamber’s mission of encouraging communication and collaboration between the business community and county government. This
year’s breakfast welcomed 95 attendees and generated $4,666.85 in net revenue.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees highlighting the panel discussions, networking, and round table conversations. Suggestions for future events included more time for discussions, improved sound, and a longer format for deeper engagement.
The First Responders Appreciation Luncheon is a long-standing Chamber tradition that began in 1999 as a successor to the Law Enforcement Banquet. Originally focused on City of Bastrop first responders, the event expanded after the 2011 Complex Fires into a countywide celebration honoring law enforcement, fire departments, EMS personnel, and emergency responders across Bastrop County.
Hosted with support from the City of Bastrop at the Bastrop Convention Center, the luncheon has grown into one of the Chamber’s most meaningful annual events, regularly welcoming more than 300 attendees. The 2026 event drew 339 guests, including 115 first responders and 224 community supporters.
Bastrop’s Blueprint & Breakfast is a quarterly morning networking group designed for the professionals helping shape Bastrop’s growth. The breakfast brings together contractors, builders, engineers, architects, skilled trades, subcontractors, developers, suppliers, inspectors, and other construction-adjacent industry partners for practical conversation over coffee.
The program has already shown strong interest, with 46 attendees at the March 10 meeting and 67 attendees at the May 12 meeting. This peer-driven gathering provides a forum to discuss upcoming projects, local development, infrastructure, workforce needs, and jobsite insights while building meaningful connections across the industry. With no sales pitches, the focus is on collaboration, shared knowledge, and strengthening relationships before the workday begins.
The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce hosted a stylish night at the movies on May 13 at Film Alley in Bastrop, bringing together 25 attendees for a fun screening event inspired by The Devil Wears Prada 2. Guests enjoyed popcorn, fountain drinks, fashion-forward vibes, and a chance to participate in Film Alley’s extended “Best Dressed” contest.
The evening also included a special guest appearance, complete with the surprise distribution of grilled cheese sandwiches, adding an unexpected and memorable twist to the night. It was a fun, casual opportunity for Chamber members and guests to connect, unwind, and enjoy a little fashion, film, and fabulous fun.
The B.E.S.T. Leadership Class spent Session 7 exploring the community, industry, and culture that make Elgin an important part of Bastrop County’s growth and identity.
Beginning with a conversation centered around purposeful work, participants reflected on the idea that not every career or job perfectly aligns with a person’s purpose, but that meaningful work can still be found through service, contribution, and relationships. The discussion encouraged class members to think more intentionally about leadership, fulfillment, and the role purpose plays in both professional and personal life.
From there, the class traveled to Carr Lane Manufacturing for a guided tour of the facility. Participants were impressed not only by the advanced manufacturing

process, but also by the company culture intentionally created by leadership. The clean, organized, and open environment reflected a strong commitment to employee wellbeing and operational excellence. Class members enjoyed seeing firsthand how precision parts are designed and produced, especially learning that some of those components have literally gone into space. Employees clearly took pride in their craftsmanship, and the tour offered an inspiring look at how local industry contributes to the community.
The class then visited the Elgin Chamber of Commerce, where they met Heather Bloom, the Chamber’s new president. Bloom shared her enthusiasm for the Elgin community and spoke about the Chamber’s role in supporting local businesses, building partnerships, and encouraging continued growth throughout the area. Participants appreciated hearing her candor in taking on a new leadership role.
Following lunch at Meyer’s Elgin Smokehouse BBQ, the group reconvened for an informative Economic Development Corporation panel featuring representatives connected to Bastrop and Elgin economic development efforts. The discussion highlighted the vital role EDCs play in attracting employers, supporting infrastructure, encouraging responsible growth, and helping communities remain competitive while maintaining their unique character. Participants gained a clearer understanding of how economic development directly impacts Bastrop County communities including Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville.
The day concluded with an Art Mural Walking Tour through downtown Elgin. The murals showcased the creativity, culture, and history of the community while providing a reminder that art also plays an important role in economic vitality and civic pride. The relaxed walk gave participants time to connect, reflect, and appreciate another unique aspect of Elgin’s identity. By the end of the session, class members left with a deeper appreciation for the industries, organizations, and individuals helping shape Elgin’s future while preserving the community spirit that makes it special.
