Tuesday 29 October | 11am–3pm Make a potion, enter the Forbidden Forest, listen to tales of enchantment and wonder in the library, take part in a sorting and find out what house you are in. There will be lots of things to do and explore during this magical day. £3 per person

Wednesday 7 August, Thursday 22 August | 10am–12pm, 1–3pm Make your own mythical beast with artist Sally Storr. £2 per child, suitable for age 3+
The Monster Trail 100 years ago a little girl called Winifred who lived at Cannon Hall spent her time imagining and drawing curious beasts and mythical creatures. One enchanted midsummer night three of them came to life! They have been living at the hall ever since, three friendly but mischievous monsters! However they have escaped from the Hall. Can you follow the clues and help us find the monsters before it’s too late? Pick up a trail from the Hall’s outdoor terrace looking over the park. Suitable for all but particularly for under 5s and their families.
Suitcase Stories!
Thursday 25 July | 11.30am, 12.45pm, 2.15pm, 3.30pm One suitcase can tell a thousand stories… especially when the suitcase belongs to this particular lady. Journey around the world with our well-travelled friend as she regales you with tales of fishermen, fairies, feasts and beasts, from Yorkshire, through Poland and on to India! An interactive storytelling show from Tell Tale Hearts designed to unleash the imagination of children from ages 3+ (and those of their adults too!) £5 per person

Thursdays 1, 8, 15 and Tuesday 20 August 11–11.45am, 1.30–2.15pm, 2.45–3.30pm An exciting series of workshops for you to create your own ceramic mythical creature! Bring along your unwanted ceramics and transform them into a whole new fantastical being. These family workshops are only suitable for children over the age of 6 due to the materials and equipment we will be using. All children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. These sessions are free thanks to funding from the Esmée Fairbairn Collection Fund – delivered by the Museums Association. Numbers are limited for these sessions

Mermarella – Cinderella of the Sea
Puppetry and Shadow Theatre for Families Tuesday 13 August 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm From one of its earliest beginnings in ancient Egypt, a story best known across the globe as Cinderella shape-shifts its common threads into the world of the seas. Mermarella is not the same creature as those she serves, who envy her gifts. She is kidnapped and taken to where they dwell. She craves for acceptance in the salt water world – but will she ever be the same and find love again in this foreign kingdom? Puppetry, shadow theatre and acting bring this comic tale to its modern day outcome, aimed at thinking families and the young at heart of all ages. £5 per person, suitable ages 4+
