At Merit, we take pride in our long-standing commitment to producing cattle that not only excel in quality, but also embody the strength and durability of the Angus Cow. The ranch was founded on the belief that a successful cattle program starts with a strong foundation of the momma cow. We’ve worked tirelessly over the years to develop a herd that prioritizes the inherent traits of maternal quality, longevity, and productivity, ensuring that our genetics deliver year after year. This book is an overview of the most infuential females that have built our program and will continue to be our foundation for the future.
For the past forty years our fundamentals have stayed consistent, sound structure on the base of a correct foot, level udders that are attached correctly with refned teats, fertility and feshing ability, all while maintaining a elegant profle. We carefully select sires with proven track records in their maternal lineage for fertility, udder quality, and mothering ability, knowing that these traits are the backbone of any successful cattle operation.
As we look to the present, we are proud of the progress we’ve made but remain committed to continuously improving our program. The cows at Merit are the heartbeat of our operation, and we place a great deal of emphasis on their ability to raise healthy, high-performing calves. This focus on cow power ensures that our customers are able to rely on our cattle to perform, not just in their frst few years, but positively impact the next generations. It is this type of durability and productivity that makes Merit cows diferent.
Looking to the future, our priorities remain squarely focused on the same principles that have guided us from the start. We are committed to continuing our eforts to improve maternal excellence, ensuring that our cows remain the foundation of every successful breeding program our genetics impact. Breeding decisions are often looked at as 50/50 Dam to Sire evaluations we feel it is closer to 70/30 Dam to Sire. Each calf that is born spends nine months growing inside of the matron and another six to eight months nursing her. They learn habits, temperament and resilience from their dam. She is the reason that each calf can live and thrive along with our passion to continuously pursue perfection.
