Cattle in the Snow Volume IV

Page 1

Welcome from Golden Oak Livestock

It is an honour to welcome you to Cattle In The Snow Volume IV! Whether you’re a long time customer or this is your first time viewing our cattle, thank you, we appreciate your interest.

It has been a great year of early rains, summer and fall tours and never seen before cattle prices. To everyone who called, toured the cattle this summer and fall, stopped for a visit and expressed interest in our cattle, we can’t thank you enough. The laughs we had out on our deck with many of you this summer is one of our favourite parts of this business!

Like many, we have spent countless hours researching pedigrees, touring herds and adding what we believe will be future key pieces to growing our herd and compliment what we already strive for; cattle that reproduce themselves time and time again, bulls that will add pounds to your calves in the fall and females that you won’t want to part with.

It is incredibly humbling to see how well our cattle have been received in the industry. To witness progeny and genetics from our herd go on to have lasting impacts on our fellow breeders herds is so rewarding and we can’t thank everyone enough for their confidence in our program.

When Golden Oak Preacher 333L was born, we had high hopes for him and he has not disappointed, he has gone above and beyond our expectations. His progeny are exactly what we had hoped they would be - thick, easy fleshing, tons of eye appeal; the kind of cattle that are going to be herd builders. This year’s sale features several bull calves and heifer calves out of Preacher as well as a full sib to him. The Preacher’s catch the eye of everyone who walks through the pens and we truly believe they are going to become cornerstones in many herds going forward. We are proud of the fact that many of the lots in the sale, both Angus and Hereford, are out of bulls that walk here at Golden Oak.

Our goal is to raise cattle that are easy fleshing, good footed, beautiful uddered and perform. Whether you’re looking for a new herdsire, a bull to add pounds to your commercial calves or produce females for your replacement

pen, a fancy show heifer that will turn into a foundation female or genetic pieces to add to enhance your herd, we have every confidence that this offering checks all of those boxes.

We are extremely grateful to our friends and fellow breeders who have graciously consigned some of their very best to this year’s Cattle In The Snow. We know how difficult it is to part with these cattle and genetics and we can’t thank them enough for giving us their best.

A huge thank you goes out to our kids for all their help throughout the year and at sale time; to our family and friends for their continuous encouragement and support; and to our customers for your belief and trust in Golden Oak cattle.

We look forward to hosting everyone on Thursday, December 18th at Golden Oak Livestock for supper, the sale, and, as always, some pre and post sale Christmas cheer! Please take advantage of the free cab service running throughout the afternoon, evening and night from both the Pomeroy and the Ramada hotels in Olds. They will give you a ride out to the farm and take you back to town whenever you’re ready!

Feel free to contact either of us, any of the sales staff or any of the guest consignors if you have any questions or to discuss any of the cattle on offer.

On behalf of all of us at Golden Oak Livestock, thank you for your interest in our program and we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and prosperous 2026!

Welcome from T Bar

As the snow begins to fly across the prairies and the crisp winter air reminds us of the strength it takes to thrive in this industry, we are proud to welcome you to the Cattle in the Snow Sale — a celebration of quality, consistency, and commitment to excellence in every animal offered. Paired with some of the best hospitality you will find anywhere, this is a not to be missed event and yes, it’s more than just a sale.

Each year, this sale represents more than just genetics — it represents a dedication to raising cattle that work hard in all conditions and bring proven value to progressive herds. Whether you’re looking for elite replacement females or bulls that can move your program forward, we are confident you’ll find genetics here that make a lasting impact. Highlighted by the first offspring of the featured bull in the second edition of Cattle in the Snow, “Preacher”. The Preacher calves offer added performance and muscle shape.

This year’s lineup of both Angus and Herefords showcases elite females bred for structural soundness, maternal strength, fertility, and longevity. These are the kind of females that build cow families — deep-bodied, easy-keeping, and highly productive in even the harshest environments. Many descend from donor cows and sires whose influence can be seen across top herds nationwide.

The bulls of both breeds have been developed with the same focus on performance, balance, and phenotype. Whether you’re looking for calving ease sires, growth and carcass potential, or bulls with the kind of muscle and presence that turn heads in the ring and in the pasture, this group has been selected to offer the very best. Backed by strong data, proven pedigrees, and years of careful breeding decisions, these bulls represent the direction we believe the beef industry is heading — efficient, predictable, and profitable.

We invite you to join us on sale day to evaluate this strong offering in person, share a meal, and enjoy good conversation among fellow cattle enthusiasts. For those unable to attend, online bidding will be available — but as always, if any of us at T Bar C may be of assistance, do not hesitate to call one of us. Here’s to good cattle, good company, and another great year ahead.

DJD 155E WHIPLASH 4H 57M

CANNON Z210 C95

ACT BW 90 Just like the George Jones song, “she’s long and lean and every young mans dream”, 57M is dark red, goggle eyed and is out of GO 4H who was the high selling Hereford female in our first sale. When you combine the beautiful udder and power of 4H you know this femaile is bred for great things. As an added bonus, she is bred to our newest herd sire, Topp’s Sherman.

AI bred on March 27th to TH 51E 2157K Sherman 512M and preg checked safe to AI.

Owned with DJD Polled Herefords and McLennan Creek Herefords.

GOLDEN-OAK 247K NELLIE 417M

ACT BW 76 We are excited to offer our first bred Amsterdam female out of our famous Nellie cow family! This dark, red eyed heifer has brood cow written all over her.

Exposed to TH 51E 2157K Sherman 512M. Observed bred April 12th and preg checked safe to this date.

ACT BW 65 A good, long, broody female with so much depth of body and length of spine. 470M is laying down a gorgeous udder. She is bred to our exciting Krebs bull, KR Incentive 352 which is going to be a great mating. The Incentive calves have a great look and have lots vigour and growth to them.

Observed bred to KR Incentive 3052 on April 12th and preg checked safe to this date.

OAK LOVAL TOOTS

ACT BW 88 A really feminine Duece daughter out of a previous high selling Toots female who is now a donor for Loval Farms and Barry Stewart. When you look at this female you can see the maternal power bred throughout. 488M may not be the biggest female but her power lies in her pedigree. AI bred to Stag’s Right On Time April 29th. Preg checked safe to AI date. Owned with Loval Farms

ACT BW 86 This heifer speaks for herself. We believe that her future is bright and would like to remain involved with her. Out of the $200,000 Argentinian outcross, Blair’s 2408 Sarita 547J, and the highly respected Glacier sire. The Sarita females have been sought after, bringing top dollar in several sales, including a full sister at the 2024 Opportunity Knocks for $50,000. We love her structure, her hip, and her middle, not to mention a strong maternal head. If you like to look at them on paper, she will catch your attention there as well: Top 1% Docility, 3% Angle, 5% Claw, 4% for Heifer pregnancy, and top 25% for both Calving Ease and Yearling Weight. We absolutely love our Grant calves, and her service to the $400,000 sire is the last opportunity to obtain his sought-after genetics this year.

Ultrasound safe to AI due April 6, 2026, to Spring Cove Grant 200K. Exposed to LT Firesteel 3066 July 1- September 9 Selling Half Interest, possession negotiable. Consigned by MJT Cattle Co

ACT BW 91 A sale feature by Preacher 333L and out of the one and only Toots 79B cow. The idea of stacking a pedigree with Preacher and 79B was a very easy decision to make. We are consistently and strategically weaving powerful cow families into each pedigree and with 540N and her full sister 534N, we feel we have done just that. Great cows like Toots, Magnolia and Flora flood these two heifer calves pedigrees and will create a very stong foundation to build a cowherd around.

PROFOUND 680G

ACT BW 80 An exciting Prostar heifer out of a hardworking Robust female we bought from Eastondale Angus. She’s deep sided and powerfully constructed and still maintains striking good looks. Owned withMcNeely Land & Cattle

GOLDEN OAK 36K TILDA 572N

ACT BW 91 The Warrior/Caldwell is a great combination. This female has so much mass and substance to her, you know she is going to go on and make a great cow just like her mom and carry on the tradition of the Tilda cow family.

ACT BW 68 A Preacher calf out of a beautiful Renovation daughter who goes back to the HF Blackcap cow family. This heifer might get overlooked by a lot of people because of her moderate frame but if we were picking a heifer to go on to be a great cow, this would be one of them. She has such a cool look to her!

OAK 8158 BARB 562N

ACT BW 81 562N is out of a little 2 year old who out did herself raising this stout made, big ribbed calf. Her mom has a beautiful udder.

ACT BW 62 This is a female that has so much maternal greatness in her pedigree. Density on top and Consensus and Tiger on the dam side, her potential to be great is proven by her cow family. Grandam 21W we purchased in 2013 at the Ring Creek dispersal and was an anchor in our herd for years , her last female calf 66J has become one of our best young females and will make to the donor pen in the future. 61Z her dam has over 21 calves due to a lot of embryo work. Offering this female has made a few heated discussions around our house but we are truly honoured to be a part of “Cattle in the Snow” Consigned by Rio Grande Angus

ACT BW 69 We are incredibly proud to be a part of Golden Oak’s Cattle in the Snow and brought our very best to Olds. The Flora lineage has made a true impact in the breed with proven sires and donors working at some of the countries most progressive herds. 5013 is a special individual - beautiful on the profile, fluid in her movement and striking in her feature. High tying neck attachment along with the rib shape with a hip and hind leg design that is revered in the show ring along with an exciting outcross pedigree that is studded with the quality maternal heritage. Merit reserves the right to one successful flush at the buyers convenience and the sellers expense.

She catches many people’s eyes that have toured through the Angus cows - one we believe will join our donor pen. Long term this female is going to be a great investment. MJT 838F TILDA ET 423N

ACT BW 86 The Tilda cow family has become a cornerstone at MJT. The maternal sister, MJT 8L, was the $50,000 pick by Blairswest last year, with several others being favourites on tours and brothers being in the top end of our bull pen. The 838F daughters are genuinely exceptional, and combining the two has sure worked. Fantastic udders, excellent performance, we love the head, structure, and body this heifer has already. This is one that hurts to see leave.

ACT BW 84 322L is a remarkable female! She was the high selling Hereford female in our 2024 sale to Yeguada El Tres of Mexico for $45,000.00. Thankfully, Manuel wanted her to stay at Golden Oak Livestock and graciously asked us to remain involved in the development of her and to partner with him. We believe so much in this young female. Her first calf is Lot 47 and you can see for yourself everything she put into her calf and still looks the way she does. Every person who has seen 322L, no matter what breed of cattle they have, have said you could paint her any colour and she would be phenomenal. Phenotypically, GO 322L checks all the boxes. She’s long, deep, good footed and has one of the most perfect udders you will find. We believe you will have to search far and wide to find another female as complete as her. We do our best to focus on the basics, foot and udder quality, maternal traits and performance. When hunting to find new genetics to add to our program and bring a fresh taste to the Canadian market, we won’t sacrifice our strict selection criteria. We think this pairing is one of the most exciting we could dream up. On the top is Roy, the New Zealand outcross phenom with ideal structural quality and performance. His sons have topped sales in Australia, and the initial calf reports from Musgrave Angus have been excellent. The bottom is no less exciting. Owned with VICCI Cattle and Jauer Angus, 3253 is the ONLY full sister to LD Capitalist 316, and her track record is nothing short of impressive. Her sons have topped Luddington’s historic sale on two separate occasions, with one of them, LD Essential 8021, being the 2nd highest selling bull in Luddington’s storied 50+ year history and was also the heaviest weaned bull in their program’s history. Essential went to stud at Origen while several other sons went on as herd sires for registered programs. She is proven to bring the same extreme muscling, function, and good looks that 316 is famous for, with excelent scrotal, docility, and frame size. Every single 3253 daughter has been retained.
