EDUCATION & AMBITION

Barbara was Influenced by an English teacher who lambasted the textbooks that tried to erase black history. She was educated by people who looked like her, and a few were bold enough to teach her pride In her African heritage.

Barbara left the segregated South with a burning desire to rise higher. She migrated north to Connecticut, joining her sister Josephine and cousin Henrietta, with her parent’s blessing. At first, she attended the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, but soon realized her wings were meant for another path. She went on to the University of Connecticut, earning a degree in Sociology and History, and studied Public Administration at the University of Hartford. Education gave her voice, power, and freedom. Miss Bee knew learning was her nectar—and she gathered it to share with her people. June 2, 1969

The Bee Finds Her Bloom

EARSOF RIAGE

Barbara found her greatest bloom in Ace Williams, Jr. Together they built a marriage that lasted thirty years, rooted in faith, laughter, and family. Their love was strong and tender, like a garden that grows through every season. Even after Ace’s passing, Barbara carried his light. She honored their life together by living with joy and gratitude. Miss B knew what it meant to love deeply and to be loved in return.

HARVEST: FAMILY & JOY HARVEST: FAMILY & JOY

The Williams Family

Barbara’s greatest harvest was her children, Khalid and Kamillah, and her grandchildren, Niccolai, Corey, Anastasia, and Champion. She poured her love into them, guiding them like honey filling a hive. She spoiled her grandchildren with joy and carried pride in her children’s paths. Family was her crown, and she wore it with grace. Miss B’s hive was full of life, laughter, and love.

She reminded us of where we came from while encouraging us to dream bigger about where we were going.

• She passed down lessons about heritage and history in a way that felt alive and relevant.

• She always kept up with the latest trends often knowing more about music, TV, and culture than her children and grandchildren.

• She never chased being “cool,” but her natural style, wisdom, and humor made her the definition of it.
