Whether you have given to an emergency like the Cyclone Idai Appeal, or you give regularly to our Disaster Action Fund – we “Obrigado, obrigadio!” Antonio and Ortensia say thank you for your support during disaster. @Medair/Eric Itin
CYCLONE IDAI, MOZAMBIQUE Now they have
shelter after losing everything... thank you! When their home collapsed during Cyclone Idai, Antonio barely survived. His wife, Ortensia, had to pull him from the rubble and into the nearest tree. Here they were stranded for two days, with Antonio clutching
a wounded leg. The treacherous waters kept rising around them – up to 2 metres. They had no water or food. When they could finally come down, they found their well contaminated by floodwaters. Their few possessions were washed away. Without clothes and blankets,
they trembled through the cold nights. And even if any food was available, they had no pots to cook it in. “The crops were washed away by the water and I have no seeds or tools to replant,” says Ortensia.
