FROM THE EDITOR This Banksia Bulletin is flipping massive, and there’s so much more that COULD and SHOULD be in it, but there are only so many pages a printer can handle and so many pages it can throw a staple through! For a moment I considered stapling by hand with the jaws-of-life looking contraption I think might be in the cupboard, but then I remembered I have a life (and technology rulez). We all claim we’re busy all the time, but surely this proves it? Between sporting fixtures and club fundraising events, social outings, school activities, meetings (ugh, meetings) and on a less light note, funerals - there’s hardly even any time to stress about why it’s not raining properly. Tagged Around Town is absolutely off chops this month (I assure you, that’s a good thing) taking up a double page spread! Or a centrefold, as I’m sure many of the subjects will claim. It warms my millennial heart to see so many savvy Instagrammers using the hashtag #quairading and spreading the love (I go on a little more about why hashtags are good for all of us on the bottom of page 9). Four of our local businesses nominated themselves and are finalists in the upcoming Wheatbelt Business Excellence Awards. The kudos are in order for Loose Stitches, Quairading Pub, Quairading Tyre & Battery and RG Bumbak & EM Grundy. If you’re looking for a night out and want to support these guys, grab a ticket and head along to the awards dinner which is in QUAIRADING next Friday (7th). Info on page 25. If you like hearing me telling you what’s what (and it’s fine if you don’t!) and you have been charged with the duty of running a Facebook page for a business, club or community group in our thriving little town, you should totally come to our How to Facebook Workshop on Wednesday 12th July at 6pm. I promise you though, I’ll keep the telling to a minimum and I’m looking forward to an interactive session where we can all share what we know and what we think works and doesn’t work, to get you lot engaged. You’ll be glad to hear our most recent trainee has successfully flown the coop and has landed safely at the Woodanilling Tavern! There are a few words and a happy snap from Taneika on page 54. A traineeship with a Community Resource Centre is like a stepping stone into a new career and are offered to help individuals build their workplace skills and experience, whilst also completing a certificate through TAFE (or similar) making them ready to take on the world. Taneika’s departure and other staffing changes here at the Quairading CRC mean we are in the market for a new team member! All the info can be found on page 13. “What do you mean I’m Practice Manager of the Year?” As a small Shire owned country practice, it was quite surreal to be told I had won an award as Rural West Australian Practice Manager of the Year for doing the job I’m paid to do! As it was explained to me, the award is for going above and beyond the job I’m paid to do! My first thought was “Really?” My second thought was, as we would all know, there is no “I” in “Team”. This is so true but I think there is something special about our Practice in that it is not a Team but in fact a composite of Teams. All of which not only assist and support our Medical Practice but also the role I perform as Practice Manager. The teams I mention are in no particular order and all are equal in their value and input to not just myself, but to our GP’s, Nurse, Administration staff and our patients. As we are Quairading Shire owned, Team Shire is our back-up. Be it our Shire President, Councillors or Shire Administration, I know we can go to them for assistance and concerns with the management and care of our Practice. To have a Shire team who understands the importance of supporting their Medical Practice is paramount to our survival and vital to not only our patients but to other business houses in our town. Team CEO of the Shire of Quairading is my right hand. He is always available to offer support, advice and recommendations. All of which are delivered professionally with the best interests of our Practice and patients as a priority. This professional attitude ensures there is no mountain which cannot be conquered Team Security. Even though we have the best security systems in place, you can’t beat a couple of pairs of eyes. We are lucky enough to have a couple of locals who consistently keep a watchful eye on our Practice during our closed periods. These people do not get paid but are volunteers who call me with any concerns. Most importantly, as I live out of town, I can call them at any hour of the night, and do, to have them attend the surgery when I’m notified by security of possible alarm concerns. It makes my job less stressful to have such willing, happy and dedicated volunteers.

Team Cleaner works when we are not there but it is still obvious the job has been performed. The high standard and professional manner in which this job is undertaken is outstanding and ensures we work in a Practice cleaned to, and above, Accreditation Standards. Team GP without whom there would be no Medical Practice. Our GPs literally hit the ground running from Monday to Friday and on call 24/7. That is a big task and they always do this with the professional conduct we have come to respect. Their understanding and caring nature is not just passed onto our patients but also to our staff, and no matter how overworked they are, they do this with a smile. Team Hospital is filled with hard working staff totally focussed on optimal patient outcomes. Being able to work together is pivotal in providing great health care services for our community. Team Pharmacy has an eye on our patients and delivers a professional service on which our community relies heavily. Imagine our community without a Pharmacy! Our Pharmacist knows how our GPs work, our Pharmacist knows our patients and we know we can rely on our Pharmacist. Team Quairading Medical Practice. This consists of our Practice Nurse, two Medical Receptionists and an emergency relief Medical Receptionist. I prefer to name this team as our Team PSO’s, Patient Support Officers. They are professional, reliable, considerate, well trained, compassionate, confidant and strong. I would not be a good Practice Manager if not for the dedication of this Team. There really are not enough complimentary words to describe the effort these ladies put into the running of our Practice and the care they show to our patients. They are my back bone as Practice Manager. Team Allied Health includes our visiting Lady Doctor, Podiatrist, Dietitian, Diabetes Educator and Psychologist. Having these services attend our Practice allows our patients to stay locally. This Team of professionals take the time to get to know our patients whilst integrating seamlessly into our Practice routine. We are very lucky to have their services. Team Patients. When things go pear shaped due to an emergency, it is the understanding of our waiting patients that encourages us to do the best we can. It is the small smiles of appreciation at the end of their consults that make us feel we have helped them. Team Families. Needless to say, no-one can perform to their best if they do not have the back up of their family. They are the front line who give us the inspiration to do what we do, well. Team Rural Health, without whom there would be no recognition for the behind the scene role of the Practice Manager and believe me, this recognition is overwhelming. Rural Health West consistently offers ongoing training, support, resources, ideas and suggestions. They perform as advertised and have proved that “distance is no obstacle to quality healthcare.” Team My Family. Silent and always willing when I call them to the Practice to do the fix it jobs to help us and save me from annoying our Shire. My family are the ones who make me the person I am and at the end of the day, they are my biggest support come rain, hail or shine, happy or sad, tired or exhausted. SO YOU SEE, TO BE PRACTICE MANAGER OF THE YEAR YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THERE IS NO “I” IN TEAM, BUT THERE IS AN “S” AT THE END. DEBRA STACEY

LARISSA THROUGH TO THE STATE FINALS! Larissa Honey represented the Quairading Ag Society on Saturday 24th June in the Eastern Districts Group Final for the 2017 Rural Ambassador Competition. She came away with the infamous blue sash and will now go onto the State Finals in Perth during August. Larissa's passions include diversity in agriculture and getting involved in lots of local community groups to create opportunities for the next generation, including her three young kids! Quairading has quite a formidable history with the Rural Ambassador Competition and the Quairading Ag Society is very proud to see Larissa giving it a red hot crack this year! The winner of the State competition will go on to represent Western Australia at the National competition.

A STORY OF GREAT SUCCESS! Ann Coombes started her quilt in 2005 following the purchase of the fabric at the Cunderdin Retreat. She worked on it nonstop until June 2006 and then it was put aside until she had time to continue. Coming into the CRC every Monday as part of the Quilters of Quairading group she thought it would be a good idea to have one specific project to work on every week so she pulled it back out of the moth balls at the beginning of 2016. On Monday 26th June, Anne proudly brought it in completed, launched and celebrated! The quilt is totally handmade, hand pieced and hand quilted and it will take pride of place on her and Mick’s bed. WHAT AN AMAZING DAY!! On Saturday, 114 golfers (of all ages) plus others who joined us for the evening, celebrated 50 years of Junior Golf in Quairading and the 10th Scott Johnson Memorial Day in fine style. The atmosphere was electric around the course, as many of our past junior golfers returned and proved to themselves that their skills weren’t as rusty as they may have thought, whilst proven golfers aimed to win. The favoured 19th hole saw the sharing of many memories and the making of many new ones. For a brief background on how Junior Golf started in Quairading and our many acknowledgments to all involved over the years, please take the time to read Cheryl Shenton’s presentation included in the Banksia Bulletin this month (pages 28 & 30). Extract from Cheryl Shenton’s presentation on Saturday 24th June 2017 It is my pleasure today to give you all a brief run down of the history as we celebrate Quairading Junior Golf’s 50th Anniversary. Junior golf commenced in 1966 and unfortunately very limited records were kept in the early years but we do know that juniors were lucky to have coaching by past champions of the club including Colin Walker, Ernie Bowyer and Colin Brown. It was in 1982 that Junior Golf really took off when Carol Comley took over the coaching, something that she was to continue for an amazing 19 years. For those that didn't know, Carol was one of our finest golfers, Club Champion 21 times and Avon Valley Ladies Golf Association Champion 18 times. These are records that may never be broken. Carol formalised junior golf, organising Tuesday afternoon golf, conducting coaching as well as organising junior competitions with the assistance of parent walkers. Carol took all of this on herself, occasionally getting some assistance from some of the parents, but for those of you that have followed through the Junior Golf committee you will know only too well what a mammoth job this must have been for her. Carol organised the first junior golf camp in 1985, something which Quairading would go on to become famous for in the golfing community and saw children come from all over the Wheatbelt to participate. These camps were great fun for the juniors as it was a chance to have a sleepover (pillow fights, lolly fights and other shenanigans) and gave some of the adult supervisors’ premature grey hairs! Of course they also had a wonderful opportunity to learn from the visiting professionals that came to the camps.

Her passion and enthusiasm saw the recruitment of assistant coaches, a committee was formed and the jobs spread among the many parent helpers so that Anne could focus on providing the best coaching opportunities possible. This included bringing Professional coaches to the Club 3 times a year and this not only benefited our juniors but adult coaching was also scheduled on these days. Other initiatives introduced by Anne included: Level O coaching clinics - this helped our parents be better prepared to help the juniors - was invaluable for both golfers and non golfers GoGo Golf at the School - a fantastic initiative which gave all children the chance to learn golf not just those coming to Junior golf Bring a Friend Day - this was often mayhem with kids everywhere but was a lot of fun and was successful in recruiting new members to the Club Trips to other Golf courses to play including El Caballo Blanco, Whaleback & Maylands - a great opportunity to play grass fairways & greens - the play was not all successful with many putts and water hazards hindering good scores! Everyone thought we had gone mad in 2003 when we invited 4 - 7 year olds to do Pee Wee golf but this was a great success. The first year we had 15 little darlings who were bravely coached by Rosie Hayes. When I say coached it was all about having fun and learning the basics but it wasn't long before these kids got competitive and all they wanted to do was play! 2004 we introduced Junior golf captains and this added a level of responsibility to the juniors with the checking of cards, maintaining the captains book and doing the presentations - jobs they took in their stride a did a great job In 2005 we had a record 48 Junior Golfers a fantastic achievement
Our juniors have also had the opportunity to attend other junior open days, Talent Seeing the need for more Junior Golf development in the Avon Valley, Carol also Identification weekends and Perth events which was all fantastic for their volunteered to be the Junior Promotions ladies delegate which saw the promotion of development. Schoolgirl Level Eryl Brown played from 1984 to 1987 and was part of the State Colts program A great achievement for a rural golf club and testament to the wonderful Junior Golf program that has been run for the past 50 years. This of course would not have been possible without the input of many people and while I don't want to name names in fear of missing someone there are a few notable exceptions. Anne, your foresight and thinking outside the square saw the Junior Club develop continually as well as providing avenues of funding through the AVLGA Junior Promotions: Healthway - Smarter than Smoking and Dept of Sport & Recreation - Way to Go. Donna Crouch - our go to coach that has been coming to coach our juniors for many years and has provided not only golfing knowledge to the juniors but also always made it fun for everyone ( I do remember one occasion where she had several juniors on a golf cart at Maylands and was hooning around! - OH&S standards may have been breached on that day!). Thanks also to all the other professionals that have come over the years to work with our children - there are too many to name but they have provided a great opportunity to our young golfers to better their game Julie Bavin - for going above and beyond for many years and feeding the hungry hordes at junior golf camps. All co-ordinators, coaches, committee persons, parent helpers, walkers, caterers - well done! Unfortunately over the years we have lost many of our parent helpers and ex junior golfers and they are all sadly missed by us all. We are very sorry that they are not here with us today but will always be remembered as valuable members of the Junior Golf Club & our community. The Quairading Golf Club for you ongoing support, making the course available and having it prepared on Championship Days - Thankyou. The current Golf committee who have organised this wonderful day - thankyou as its been a lot of work but you have provided a fantastic day for us all. come. Lastly I would also like to acknowledge the 10th Anniversary of the Scott Johnson Memorial Golf Day. Scott was one of our stars! Blessed with good golfing genes he soon developed into an awesome young golfer. He started junior golf in 1998 and played through until he went away to school in 2005. Scott was our Junior boy Champion 3 times, a feat only bettered by his father Keith who won it 4 times. If Scott hadn't gone away to School he would have beaten his father’s record I'm sure. Scott was the Quairading Golf Club Men's Champion, a great achievement for someone so young. Scott went away to school to further his golfing career, being accepted into the Golf Academy at Como Secondary College, boarding at the Kent St Rotary College. He joined as a member at Royal Perth and played pennants there as well as spending many hours practicing his chipping & putting - he always wanted to better himself. As a prefect at Como in Year 11, Scott won the Yr 11 Golfer of the year and immersed himself in golf by working part time at the Royal Perth Golf Club Pro Shop - he was a young man on a golfing mission! He was voted in as the Captain in Year 12 to lead the Como Golf Academy team to New Zealand. This showed the respect he had by not only the students but also the teachers. Ros Fisher was his golf teacher at Como and often said that Scott was her lifesaver when it came to organising events and rosters. He would often tell her to stop, take a breath & start again and I am sure that these are skills that he would have most definitely learnt from his time at Quairading Junior Golf. Scott wanted to be a professional golfer and go on to be a golf coach. I have no doubt that Scott would have achieved this had his time not been cut short and he would have been bloody good at it. We look forward to Junior Golf and the Scott Johnson Memorial Day continuing on for many years to come. Thank you to our sponsors for making this day possible.
LITTLE RAINMAKERS DAY CARE GETS $500 BOOST Australia, 24 May 2017 – The Shire of Quairading Little Rainmakers Day Care is $500 better off thanks to a donation from the Crop Science division of Bayer and Primaries, Quairading Pty Ltd, under the iGiveLocal Community Support Program. Bayer representative, Glen Bradley, and Trevor Sandercock of Primaries, presented the cheque to a grateful Catherine Rostron, who was thrilled to receive the donation on behalf of the day care centre. Ms Rostron said that “The funds are going to be used for valuable reading and learning materials for the children.” Opened in 2007, Little Rainmakers Day Care provides invaluable early education for families in the Quairading community. The iGiveLocal Community Support Program is a joint initiative of Bayer CropScience Pty Ltd and Combined Rural Traders (CRT). In 2017, Bayer will donate $50,000 to a variety of deserving local community groups across Australia.

QUAIRADING DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL This term in English, the year 9/10 class is completing a unit of work called ‘Teen Worlds’. Young adult fiction can address important issues that teenagers face, such as fitting in, peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, and more. Young adult literature holds the power to not only expose students to elements of literature, but it also holds the power to delve into issues on a much more emotional, selfneeds level. It may give students a timely opportunity to self reflect and prepare themselves for the future. During this unit of work, students have been writing creatively. The following poem was written by Connor Atkins, with support from Zahn Costantini. It is a powerful, two voice poem about bullying that contrasts the thoughts and feelings experienced by the victim and perpetrator.
Tangled in lies It wasn’t the fact that you lied, it was the fact that you knew it would ruin me. The rumour you spread throughout the hall, bounced off of every wall within my school. I didn’t know how far it would go; I didn’t expect my teachers to know. The ball of lies you meshed together became a news headline that I couldn’t escape. I spread the rumour as a joke. I didn’t realise how far it would go. I watched you walk across the hall, your eyes red from tears like waterfalls. I saw the bullets break your smile and I watched the bombs explode in your face.
I walked home through the streets impaled with gunshots from eyes unfamiliar to me. The grenades you threw blew up in my face and I felt the shrapnel from the words you thought I didn’t hear. I lived the same endless days being killed by the knives you stabbed in my back. I wanted to do something to help but I started it all, I was the cause of this crap. This wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for me. I said a few words; meant nothing to me.
School became a battlefield of words and it was 1 to 100, I was destined to lose. That year of school was the worst of my life; the endless lies broke me inside. It’s a lie for me to say that I knew it wouldn’t hurt you; I wanted it to hurt but not nearly this much. Only now I realise how much it broke you. The bricks you once held upon your shoulders have been placed on mine like enormous boulders.
The summer break was my long awaited escape. The heft of the world became a lightless weight. The weeks passed quick and I lost my hope. It was back to school and I already saw the cracks open up. I go to sleep every night thinking of the first day of school when you didn’t show up. I see the image of what you did in nightmares that seem too real. The circular bruise around your neck is a constant reminder; you’ll never forget. I say “I’m sorry for what I did” as you lay looking at me in your hospital bed. A FURTHER REPORT ON LOOSE STITCHES Well, I am still going – it just goes to prove that I am MAD. The ladies are all good and quite a number of new people have joined. There is always a lot of visitors from other districts and there is now going to be another workshop. They are hard work but the presenters know their work and questions can be asked. The next workshop a lady is coming over from Tasmania. She should be extremely good. Everything you ask the Loose Stitches in the shop – it is always EASY. Like hell! At last we have a bit of winter with a rain of varying amounts across the district and some cold days and nights so it is a good time to light the fire, slip on the uggies and enjoy a coffee or a nice glass of red (after 5pm :) ) As usual we have had a busy time at Loosies, with stocktake, a minor front window change and a good flow of customers from far and wide. We have been organising a Trunk Show and workshop with Helen Stubbings (see full page flyer) and spots are filling fast.
Loosies were encouraged to write up an application for the 2017 Wheatbelt Business Excellence Awards and we are proud to say we are a finalist. The Awards night will be held in Quairading this year sometime in July – so fingers crossed. Loose Stitches will soon be demonstrating

WARRIOR WELLBEING ARTICLE Staying Connected in Challenging Times Things that we cannot control are our biggest distressors, in agriculture it is mostly weather issues followed by a multitude of other factors such as commodity prices, machinery breakdowns (how long is a bit of string!)
cave, working harder, longer, and talking less (some ladies might find that hard to believe). It is important that we start to talk about some of the pain and distress that as blokes we tend to suffer alone.
This year every area of the Wheatbelt (from Northampton to Southern Cross to Esperance and in between) has had different rain events and the crops and pastures are at different stages of germination and growth. We must remind ourselves that it is winter and we are in July. These challenging starts to the season affect the whole community (farmers, people involved in agribusiness and those in the agri-link industries like the mechanics, the mitre 10 store). Everybody feels the pain.
We describe “primary care” as what can we do to look after ourselves and others, invariably it is about connection. Some simple things we can do: Talk to a Mate – realize that we are not alone. Talk to whoever needs to be informed about our situation (family, financiers, advisors). Keep an eye on others – drop into a neighbour and have a chat and a coffee. Take the time to ask someone “are you okay?” No one can change what happens with Slow the pace of our life a little, the weather, all we can do is manage join a group that fits in with our our programs and control our business passions and interests. RMHI has been attending a lot of these events including, breakfasts, sundowners and many other gatherings which allow the communities to have a conversation about where they are at individually and as a collective. There is less and less of us living in regional areas, add this to the nature of modern farming as well as a challenging season and isolation becomes more prevalent. Staying connected is important and something we must actively work on. As blokes, we have a propensity to selfmedicate. A lot of people think that is done by sex, drugs and rock & roll however in the work we do its mostly blokes spending more time in their 45 Banksia Bulletin July 2017

The subject for June was “Into the sun”. fully visible. The idea of this subject was to be creative and to have the sun showing in 3rd: Gary Fox Breading your photo. Photo of a girl infront of the sun. The subject deviates from the standard type of photo usually taken as photos with too much sun in the picture results in a photo with too much lens flare, damaging your photo. However by diffusing the sun with an object like a tree you can end up with a very creative photo. 1st: Russell Stacey Photo taken at the beach with the sun reflecting off the water.
For the June learning area of photography, I have a talk on drones, showing how to fly and take photos with a Phantom drone. The photo subject for July is “the colour red”. Anybody is welcome to come along to the Quairading Photo Club. We meet at the Quairading CRC on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm.

TO NEW ANDVENTURES!!
This is my new home. This is where the adventure begins. Taneika Jefferies- Bar Manager of the Woodanilling Tavern, sounds good doesn't it? As you can see I'm happily settled in at the pub we just bought. I have already been questioned by many locals about if I'm from Quairading and if I know a bunch of people that they know. Is Quairading the centre of the universe or what? Thanks to everyone for all the support during the last 15 months that I spent working at the Quairading CRC. Working at the CRC has built both my confidence and knowledge and I owe a huge thank you to both the staff and community for being so patient and helpful. I hope everyone from Quairading decides to visit some time in the future! I'll be waiting behind the bar with a coldie for you! Again thank you! QUAIRADING UNITING CHURCH On 22nd of June the Uniting Church celebrated 40 years since its inception. That was the union of the Methodist Church , the Presbyterian Church and the Congregational Church. The number 40 is significant in the Bible, The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years before entering the promised land. At the time of Noah and the flood it rained for 40 days and then the sun shone. Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness before starting His ministry. THE TOURIST’S PRAYER Heavenly Father, look down on us, Your humble obedient tourist servants who are doomed to travel this earth, taking photographs, mailing post cards, buying souvenirs and walking around in drip-dry underwear. We beseech You, oh Lord, to see that our plane is not hijacked, our luggage is not lost and our overweight baggage goes unnoticed. Protect us from surly and unscrupulous taxi drivers, avaricious porters and unlicensed, English-speaking guides. Give us this day divine guidance in the selection of our hotels that we may find our reservations honored, our rooms made up and hot water running from the taps (if it is at all possible). We pray that the telephones work and that the operators speak our tongue and that there is no mail waiting from our children which would force us to cancel the rest of our trip. Lead us, Lord, to good, inexpensive restaurants where the food is superb, the waiters friendly and the wine included in the price of the meal. Give us the wisdom to tip correctly in currencies we do not understand. Forgive us for undertipping out of ignorance and over-tipping out of fear. Grant us the strength to visit the museums, the cathedrals, the palaces and the castles listed as "musts" in the guide books. And if, perchance, we skip an historic monument to take a nap after lunch, have mercy on us for our flesh is weak. (This part of the prayer is for husbands.) Dear God, keep our wives from shopping sprees and protect them from "bargains"they don’t need or can’t afford. Lead them not into temptation for they know not what they do. (This part of the prayer is for wives.) Almighty Father, keep our husbands from looking at foreign women and comparing them to us. Save them from making fools of themselves in cafes and nightclubs. Above all, please do not forgive them their trespasses for they know exactly what they do. (Together.) And when our voyage is over and we return to our loved ones, grant us the favor of finding someone who will look at our home movies and listen to our stories, so our lives as tourists will not have been in vain. The Quairading Bulls have had a fair bit of time between drinks games of late with byes galore, producing that good old mixed bag of results. The boys will be putting in many hours between now and then, on the track and in drills to make sure we come out of the break fighting fit and in with a chance of finals. We’d love to see all our supporters down at the bull ring—don’t forget your winter woollies! At our most recent game on Sunday 25th July, the ladies of our club hosted Barb’s High Tea. In honour of Barb Simpson’s incredible work ethic and passion for helping, lots of people brought out their work boots filled with flowers, foliage or something else to create this display. As her girls said on the day, Barb would have hated the fuss—but sharing an afternoon tea spread to rival only Barb’s and a glass (or three) of bubbles, is one of many beautiful ways Barb’s legacy will continue to live on.
The Simpson family also presented the first few of many 4 weekly ’Barb’s Hard Yards Towels’ to a few members of our great club who go above and beyond just playing the game. These went to; Alex Stacey, Jack Richards, Dan Kujawski and Ben Wilson.

QUAIRADING JUNIOR FOOTBALL CLUB The Junior Footy season has been another busy one with our numbers continuing to grow. This year we have more than 60 players from Nippers to high school coached and supported by our dedicated parents each Friday afternoon. The Watheroo Cup was held on the 4th June. This carnival is an annual event with a combined Year 7 team from the East Avon Junior Football Association competing against the others from the Midlands Region. Quairading Junior Football Club had three players competing on the day. The team did very well coming third overall. Special mention to Ryan Newick for coming runner in the Spectators’ Award and Abdul Pickett and Seth White receiving Coach’s Awards for a game each over the day. Our Nippers had a great day at the York Auskick Carnival on Saturday 4 th June. This was the first time the event has been held and was for those in pre-primary through to year 2. Quairading had 7 players attend and from all reports it was a fun day for the players and they enjoyed the opportunity to get to play against other teams. The Beverley Shield was on Saturday 17th June at Kellerberrin. This event is a year 7 and under competition held annually and rotated between the towns in the East Avon Junior Football Association. This year Kellerberrin hosted the day. Quairading once again played well coming runner up to the strong Kellerberrin team. Well done to all our players and congratulations to Jack Hughes receiving the Coach’s Award and Will Hughes Fairest & Best. The Neu Tech Cup is on again in Corrigin on Sunday 2nd July. The annual competition is for players aged 5-11 years. It is a fun day and our players are very keen to participate with the club having two teams nominating for the day, and good numbers in both. Thank you parents for nominating your children and getting the money in quickly. Players need to be at Pavillion, Corrigin Recreation Ground, Larke St, Corrigin at 9:30 for a 10:00 start. The Pat Ferguson Shield is on Saturday 29th July. The competition gives players in year 5 and below the opportunity to have a day playing footy against neighbouring towns. Those that wish to play must give their names and $5 into Kylie/Nikki by 30 th June. Players need to be at the Quairading Oval at 9:30 for a 10:00 start. Merredin Carnival will be on Sunday 13th August for our players in years 7 and below. Further information will be coming out soon.
