We’re proudly bilingual and inclusive. UMCB, our Welsh Students’ Union, is part of Undeb Bangor and works to promote Welsh language, culture, and community on campus. Whether you’re a fluent Welsh speaker, a learner, or simply interested in Welsh culture, you can get involved.

UMCB supports a wide range of clubs and societies, as well as campaigns, to ensure the Welsh language remains a vibrant part of life at Bangor. You don’t need to be fluent to take part, just enthusiastic!

At Bangor, there are more activities and sports than you can ever imagine - it’s the perfect way to make friends, meet new people, and try something completely new.

Our biggest welcome event of the year, Serendipity, takes place during Welcome Week. You’ll find over 150 stalls run by student groups, university services and local businesses, all ready to help you make the most of your time at Bangor. Expect plenty of freebies, exciting opportunities, and lots of information on how to get involved.

SPORTS CLUBS

Whatever your passion, there’s a way to get active at Bangor. With over 68 sports clubs, you’ll find everything from traditional favourites like rugby and badminton, to outdoor adventures such as surfing, paddle-boarding, or even something unique like underwater hockey (Octopush).

All clubs train in the University’s top-class sports facilities. With our Athletic Union membership passes, you can choose between the Silver Pass or the Gold (BUCS Competitive) Pass, starting at just £50. This single payment gives you access to all sports clubs, so you can try as many as you like.

SOCIETIES

Bangor’s societies bring people together, and with over 100 to choose from, there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s academic and course-related groups like LangSoc and ZooSoc, cultural and international societies, or hobby-based clubs like the Film Society, there’s always a welcoming space to meet new friends and explore your interests.

For just £10, you can get a Society Membership, giving you unlimited access to all societies for the year.

A foundation year is perfect if you don’t yet have the qualifications for a degree-level course or are returning to education after a break.

NORTH WALES MEDICAL SCHOOL

Bangor University’s medicine programmes allow students to complete their entire medical degree in North Wales, working closely with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and Primary Care providers across the region.

In 2025, the North Wales Medical School launched a brand new pharmacy degree, giving students the opportunity to study pharmacy in North Wales for the very first time.

Our courses offer a rich, hands-on learning experience, with a strong focus on community-based learning - fully aligned with the Welsh Government’s vision for ‘A Healthier Wales’.
