A WORLD OF LEGO POSSIBILITIES
UNLEASH YOUR CREATIVITY AT PENSACOLA BRICK CONVENTION
By Morgan Cole
W
hether you grew up building castles across the living room floor, creating epic spaceships for your bedroom shelf, or have recently discovered the fun of putting together LEGOs with your kids, the Pensacola Brick Convention has something for everyone. Returning to the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds Sept. 19–20, the 2026 Pensacola Brick Convention is bringing an even bigger lineup of colorful displays, interactive attractions, hands-on building experiences and special guests from the LEGO community, including stars from the hit reality competition series LEGO Masters. This year’s LEGO fan expo will feature more than twice as many displays as past conventions, giving visitors even more amazing builds to explore and plenty of inspiration for their own creations. With so much creativity and imagination on display, there’s something for LEGO fans of every age to enjoy. The Brick Convention is much more than a showcase of toys — it’s part art exhibit, part family festival and part creative playground. Throughout the event, guests can explore towering castles, bustling cityscapes, intricate train layouts, famous landmarks and imaginative fantasy worlds, all brought to life one brick at a time. These impressive creations feature tens of thousands of LEGO bricks, with many taking hundreds of hours to design, plan and build. Unlike a traditional exhibit, where visitors typically walk through galleries and look at displays from a distance, the Brick Convention invites guests to become part of the experience. Families can roll up their sleeves

and let their creativity take over in large, interactive building zones stocked with thousands of bricks. Visitors can also join collaborative builds that grow throughout the weekend, help create colorful LEGO mosaics one piece at a time and test their creativity in open build areas where there are no instructions. Younger builders can get in on the fun, too, with oversized brick play areas made especially for little hands. With displays and activities for builders of all ages, there’s plenty of room for everyone to create, explore and play. Another crowd favorite is the opportunity to meet some of the personalities behind the LEGO community. The Pensacola Brick Convention will feature special appearances by professional LEGO artists, accomplished builders, authors, content creators and contestants from the hit FOX television series LEGO Masters. Guests will have a chance to meet the builders, hear about their creative journeys, ask questions, snap photos and even collect autographs. Collectors and serious hobbyists will have plenty to discover at the convention’s marketplace, where brick vendors and merchants from across the region will offer everything from the latest LEGO sets to retired and hard-to-find collections no longer available in stores. Visitors can browse booths filled with rare minifigures, individual bricks for custom builds, specialty accessories and unique collectibles, with something to catch the eye of both first-time builders and longtime LEGO fans. Even if you’re not looking to shop, the vendor area is worth exploring, offering a chance to discover creative, unusual and hard-to-find pieces you may not come across every day.
Throughout the convention, visitors will also enjoy colorful photo opportunities with life-sized brick creations and themed displays, making it easy to capture all the fun. One of the things that makes Brick Convention so special is its ability to bring people of all ages together. Colorful bricks become a shared creative experience, giving families and friends a chance to put down their phones, build side by side and enjoy the fun together. It’s one of those rare events where a preschooler, a teenager and a longtime collector can all leave equally impressed. The annual Brick Convention is also about spreading the joy of building beyond the convention floor. A portion of proceeds from every regional convention supports the Build Smiles Foundation, an allvolunteer nonprofit that provides
new LEGO sets to children in need around the world and helps support orphanages in Brazil. It’s another way the fun of LEGOs can make a difference far beyond Pensacola. This year, to help manage attendance and give guests plenty of room to explore, the convention will be divided into timed sessions throughout the two-day event. When purchasing tickets, visitors can choose a 10 am–1 pm or 2–5 pm session on either Saturday or Sunday, with tickets valid only for the date and time selected at purchase. Tickets are $15 when purchased online in advance or $20 at the door, based on availability. Since sessions often sell out before the event, organizers recommend buying tickets early to secure your preferred date and time. Children 2 and younger are admitted free. Advance tick-
ets can be purchased online at brickconvention.com/pensacola. With creativity around every corner and something for builders of all ages and experience levels, it’s the kind of event that may leave you inspired to pick up a few bricks and start creating something of your own. Whether you’re coming to check out incredible custom builds, meet stars from the LEGO Masters community, hunt down a hardto-find collectible or simply enjoy a favorite hobby with friends and family, the Pensacola Brick Convention offers something for everyone. For tickets and information, visit brickconvention.com/pensacola. You can also follow Brick Convention on Facebook and Instagram for event updates, highlights of this year’s LEGO displays, featured artists and more. ■

AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS AND NON-INDUSTRIAL PRIVATE FOREST LANDOWNERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR CONSERVATION PROGRAMS
GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS ANNOUNCES $60 MILLION IN CANCER INNOVATION AWARDS AND OPENS $70 MILLION APPLICATION CYCLE
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Florida announces Fiscal Year 2027 (FY2027) financial assistance opportunities for agricultural producers and forestry operations through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP). While NRCS accepts applications yearround, Florida producers and landowners should apply no later than October 30, 2026, to be considered for funding in the FY2027 current cycle. If applications are received after the signup period for FY2027, applications will automatically be considered during future funding cycles. Application cutoff periods allow NRCS to screen-and-rank applications for those with the highest conservation benefits across Florida’s landscapes, including cropland, grazing lands and private non-industrial forestlands. Applications may be submitted in person at NRCS offices, by email, mail, phone or through Farmers.gov. EQIP helps agricultural producers and non‑industrial forest landowners plan and implement conservation practices that integrate conservation into working lands and improve environmental quality. It provides targeted, practice‑based solutions to address resource concerns, supporting structural, vegetative and management improvements. CSP builds on this foundation by supporting whole‑farm stewardship, helping producers maintain existing conservation systems and adopt additional long‑term enhancements across their entire operation to improve natural resources and overall agricultural performance. For FY2027, Florida NRCS will implement practice‑specific payment caps under
Governor Ron DeSantis announced $60 million in awards through the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Florida Cancer Innovation Fund and opened the application cycle for Fiscal Year 2026-27, with $70 million available for new awards, a $10 million increase over last year. “Today, I was proud to announce the winners of this year’s Florida Cancer Innovation Fund awards and the opening of applications for next year’s awards. This promising initiative now has $70 million in funding for groundbreaking cancer research projects, $10 million more than the previous cycle,” said Governor DeSantis. “Congratulations to the awardees, and thank you for all you do to make Florida a beacon of hope in cancer research and treatment.” Since 2019, Florida has invested more than $1.4 billion in cancer research and treatment, and funding for cancer research programs has increased by more than 175 percent under Governor DeSantis. In Fiscal Year 2026-27 alone, Florida committed nearly $228 million to cancer research and innovation. “Governor DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis have shown tremendous leadership in making cancer research a priority in Florida, and I’m incredibly grateful for their continued commitment,” said State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo. “These investments give researchers the freedom to ask important questions, explore new ideas and follow the evidence wherever it leads.” The Florida Cancer Innovation Fund was established in 2023 with an initial investment of $20 million to support Florida-based researchers, institutions, startups and other entities pursuing innovative approaches to cancer prevention, treatment and cures. Governor DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis had a bold vision for what Florida could accomplish in the fight against cancer, and nearly 150 funded projects later, that vision is paying off for families in every part of
EQIP for the conservation practices listed below. These caps are established at the individual practice level and applied consistently across all contracts, including those for Historically Underserved (HU) participants, to support equitable and uniform delivery of financial assistance. • 325 – High Tunnel System: $50,000 • 400 – Bivalve Aquaculture Gear and Biofouling Control: $50,000 • 484 – Mulching: $50,000 Application Requirements for All Programs • Establish or update farm records with Farm Service Agency. • Engaged in or has a direct interest in the agricultural or forestry operation on the land offered for enrollment. • Comply with highly erodible land and wetland conservation requirements. • Meet adjusted gross income and payment limitation rules. • Provide documentation for signature authority. • Have control of the land (ownership, lease, or legal agreement). • Provide written landowner concurrence for structural or vegetative practices. • Comply with tenant and sharecropper protection provisions. Applications are available at your local USDA Service Center or online on our Get Started with NRCS web page and will be accepted until October 30, 2026. NRCS has 33 field offices throughout Florida with teams ready to help landowners with conservation programs. Contact your local NRCS field office for more information. NRCS has provided leadership in a partnership effort to help America's private landowners and managers conserve their soil, water and other natural resources since 1935.
MICHLES & BOOTH MAKES SIGNIFICANT COMMITMENT TO UWF ATHLETICS, BECOMES OFFICIAL LAW FIRM OF UWF ATHLETICS Yesterday, the University of West Florida announced a very significant commitment from Michles & Booth that will support Argonaut Athletics as UWF begins its transition to NCAA Division I competition. As part of the partnership, Michles & Booth will become the “Official Law Firm of UWF Athletics,” name the press tower pavilion at Darrell Gooden Stadium and become the first-ever uniform patch sponsor for UWF Athletics. “We are proud to officially welcome Michles & Booth as the Official Law Firm of UWF Athletics,” said UWF President Manny Diaz Jr. “Their significant commitment reflects the important role our business and community partners play in helping UWF continue to strengthen our programs and compete at the highest level.” The law firm will provide meaningful support to nearly all UWF athletics teams. As part of the agreement, the Michles & Booth logo will be featured on official uniform patches for football, cross country and swimming and diving, marking the first uniform patch sponsorship in UWF Athletics history. They will also be naming the press tower pavilion in the new Darrell Gooden Stadium, which opens in 2027. The tower will be home to two premium club spaces, 18 luxury suites, the President's Box and many other media and gameday operations areas. “Michles & Booth has built its reputation here locally, and we are honored that they
have chosen to make this substantial commitment to UWF and our student-athletes,” said UWF Athletics Director Dave Scott. “Their support sends a strong message that they believe in our student-athletes, our university and where UWF Athletics is headed.” This transformational support from Michles & Booth touches UWF’s facilities, teams and the overall UWF Athletics brand, giving UWF Athletics the resources to enhance the studentathlete experience, strengthen its programs and create more opportunities for future Argonauts. “At Michles & Booth we are proud to be celebrating our 25th year of representing local injury victims. It’s our privilege and honor to emphasize our commitment to the next 25 years by partnering with UWF Athletics, a shining example of what hard work, vision and a commitment to excellence can bring to our community,” said Marcus J. Michles II, Founding Partner of Michles & Booth. The partnership represents another milestone in the continued growth of UWF Athletics at an especially exciting time for the University and demonstrates a shared commitment to student-athletes, the University and the Northwest Florida community. “This partnership is personal for Michles & Booth,” said Partner Brian Carter of Michles & Booth. “Our attorneys and staff have deep ties to the University of West Florida, and we believe its growth will transform the Pensacola community. We are excited to be part of it.”

our state,” said Agency for Health Care Administration Secretary Shevaun L. Harris. “From rural communities to major cancer centers, Florida patients are getting access to groundbreaking research and life-changing care close to home. This is what happens when a state decides cancer research is not optional. It is a priority.” Following a rigorous and competitive review process, $60 million was awarded through the Fiscal Year 2025-26 application cycle to researchers and institutions advancing the next generation of cancer prevention and treatment strategies. The awards support a diverse group of grantees across Florida, from established research institutions to emerging innovators pursuing promising new approaches in the fight against cancer. The Fiscal Year 2026-27 application cycle is now open, with $70 million available for new awards, representing a $10 million increase over last year. Funding will continue to support innovative research in areas including preventive nutrition, emerging medical treatments, data infrastructure and patient-centered solutions designed to improve outcomes. The Florida Cancer Innovation Fund is part of the state’s broader commitment to advancing cancer research and collaboration. Through the Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program, Cancer Connect Collaborative and other targeted investments, Florida is working to break down barriers between researchers and institutions and accelerate the development of new treatments. Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in Florida, and nearly 40 percent of Floridians will face a cancer diagnosis during their lifetime. Florida’s continued investments are designed to ensure researchers have the resources to pursue breakthroughs while giving patients and families greater access to innovative treatments and hope for the future.

CITY, HABITAT WRITING THE NEXT CHAPTER IN ATTAINABLE HOUSING WITH JACKSON STREET PROJECT A new chapter in securing attainable housing in the City of Pensacola opened on East Jackson Street. The partnership between Pensacola Habitat for Humanity and the City to build nine new, affordable homes on East Jackson Street took another step toward bringing permanent affordable housing to the site of the former Malcolm Yonge Center. The property’s sale closed Aug. 19. These homes will be part of the Northwest Florida Community Land Trust (CLT), a shared-equity homeownership model that ensures that the homes will remain affordable for income-qualified buyers for 99 years. “A safe and stable roof overhead is one way to relieve the pressure of affordability on families,” said Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves. “I’m grateful to our partners at Pensacola Habitat for their commitment to ensuring that – through the Community Land Trust model – these nine homes will be affordable for decades to come.” “Our goal with this project is to make homeownership possible for working families in a part of our community where rising housing costs have put it increasingly out of reach,” said Pensacola Habitat President and CEO Sam Young. "These nine homes are being built for the families and individuals who make our community run and the Community Land Trust ensures this investment will continue serving working families for generations. That’s what’s possible when a city prioritizes housing and puts real resources behind it. We’re grateful to the City of Pensacola for the
partnership and excited about what we’re building together.” The CLT partnership includes the City’s donation of the land at 925 E. Jackson Street, plus an additional City contribution of roughly $590,000, comprised of $240,000 in Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) dollars and roughly $350,000 from the City Housing Department’s Homebuyer Assistance Program funds. The CLT will deliver the homes, cover the remaining project costs and preserve long-term affordability through its ground lease model to keep the homes affordable in perpetuity. Pensacola Habitat’s Northwest Florida CLT is the only model in Northwest Florida that can permanently protect the public subsidy involved in these homes, making them permanently affordable for the workforce. By building these homes through the CLT, they won’t only be attainable for today’s buyer, but for any potential buyers in future years. This is the latest in a long line of collaborations between the City and Pensacola Habitat for Humanity aimed at transforming the landscape of affordable housing. This project and beyond are proof that private and public partnerships can lead to long-term, lasting impact in the housing market. What is “affordable”? Average median income is the metric that is typically used when discussing affordability in housing. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development figures show 80% of Pensacola's area median income for an individual is $54,950 and at 120% of AMI, the number is $82,440.
“FUNBALL” FAN EXPERIENCE COMES TO BLUE WAHOOS STADIUM ON SEPTEMBER 12 The Pensacola Blue Wahoos announced Tuesday that “Funball,” a kid-friendly fan experience with a focus on having fun, is coming to Blue Wahoos Stadium for the first time on Saturday, September 12. Participants age 6-12 can live the life of a big leaguer with various stations set up throughout the stadium, featuring wiffle ball, access to the batting cage and dugout, the opportunity to hit home runs over the outfield wall, have walk-up music played through the stadium’s sound system and a simulated “media day” experience with a photo keepsake.
All participants get an exclusive “Funball” t-shirt and a ticket to the Blue Wahoos’ Saturday evening game against the Biloxi Shuckers at 6:05 pm featuring a postgame fireworks show. Tickets are $40, and there will be two sessions beginning at 8:00 am (baseball) and 10:30 am (softball). Skills training for all experience levels will be led by local athletes from the Pensacola community. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the DoubleA affiliate of the Miami Marlins. Founded in 2012, they have won Southern League Championships in 2017 and 2022. Their mission is to create memorable experiences.
BRITT LANDRUM CHAMPIONS MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH MOVEMENT AND COMMUNITY For Britt Landrum III, supporting mental health has been a lifelong commitment shaped by family and personal conviction. As CEO of Landrum, Britt’s support of Lakeview Center builds on a connection that stretches back generations. His father, Britt Landrum Jr., has been a long-time Lakeview board member, making the organization a familiar presence throughout Britt’s life. “Growing up in Pensacola, I've known about Lakeview my whole life,” he said. “It’s a staple in the community.” Today, Britt is helping advocate for mental health in Pensacola through the Landrum 5K benefiting Lakeview Center. Turning awareness into action While Landrum has supported many community causes over the years, mental health has become one of Britt's greatest passions. “Everybody either struggles or has a close family member that struggles with mental health,” he said. “My focus is to generate awareness and make it less of a stigma. The link between mental and physical health is critical.” That belief inspired the Landrum 5K, an event designed to encourage movement, promote wellness and support mental health services across Northwest Florida. “A big step toward improving mental health, no matter what you’re struggling with or what your family members are struggling with, is physical exercise,” he said. “If we can get people moving, that’s a start.” The power of movement A lifelong athlete, Britt played multiple sports growing up before becoming an avid triathlete and IRONMAN® competitor. He credits exercise with helping him navigate life’s challenges and maintain perspective through stressful seasons. “I know from personal experience how much exercise has changed my life,” he said. “When you’re struggling with mental health, you have to get everything on your side.”
During the uncertainty of the COVID19 pandemic, Britt leaned even further into endurance training as a positive outlet. That experience reinforced his belief that exercise can be a powerful tool for improving mental well-being. Still, he understands that simply taking the first step can be difficult. “If you can get over that hump, exercise is a game changer,” he said. Encouraging people to seek help As a business leader, Britt frequently sees the pressures people carry behind the scenes. His message is simple: don’t be afraid to ask for help. “People need an independent third-party professional to help guide them,” he said. “I know that’s made me a much better version of myself.” He hopes that by talking openly about mental health and supporting organizations like Lakeview Center, more people will feel empowered to seek the care and support they need. A race with purpose Now entering its fourth year, the Landrum 5K continues to bring together local businesses, families and community members in support of mental health care. “I hope the 5K continues to grow,” Britt said. “It’s a great race for a great cause. We’ve got good organizers, and we make it a fun event for the whole family.” His support comes back to a belief that mental health touches all of us. “You never know what somebody’s struggling with,” he said. “If we’re all a little more tolerant and keep mental health at the top of our minds, the world will be a better place.” Join Britt and Landrum in supporting mental health care across Northwest Florida by participating in the Landrum 5K or making a gift to Lakeview Center today. AGRICULTURAL PRODUCERS AND LANDOWNERS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR AGRICULTURAL CONSERVATION EASEMENT PROGRAM The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Florida announces Fiscal Year 2027 easements enrollment opportunities for agricultural producers and partners for Agricultural Land Easements (ALE), Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) and the Wetland Reserve Easements (ACEP-WRE) Reserved Grazing Rights. The Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) protects the agricultural viability and related conservation values of eligible land by limiting nonagricultural uses which negatively affect agricultural uses and conservation values. The program protects grazing uses and related conservation values by restoring or conserving eligible grazing land, and protecting, restoring and enhancing wetlands on eligible land. ACEP has two components: The Agricultural Land Easements (ALE) component funds permanent agricultural land easements that not only protect the future of the nation's food supply, but also support environmental quality, wildlife habitat and historic preservation and protection of open spaces. Landowner applicants who are interested must apply through an eligible entity – such as a land trust, municipality, or State agency. NRCS will prioritize applications that protect agricultural uses and related conservation values of the land and those that maximize the protection of contiguous acres devoted to agricultural use. Under the Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) component, landowners may apply
directly to NRCS for a conservation easement to restore wetlands impacted by agriculture. Wetland Reserve Easements provide habitat for fish and wildlife, including threatened and endangered species, improve water quality by filtering sediments and chemicals, reduce flooding, recharge groundwater, protect biological diversity, provide resilience and provide opportunities for limited recreational activities. Under the Wetland Reserve Easements (ACEP-WRE) Reserved Grazing Rights, the landowner retains the right to graze. The Parties hereby agree that the grazing of the easement area is a management tool necessary to achieve the desired wetland functions and values. The landowner agrees to conduct grazing activity in accordance with the terms and conditions identified in the grazing management plan, which is a component of the Wetland Reserve Plan of Operations (WRPO) developed by NRCS. Not sure how to begin? Visit our website where you will find information on benefits, how to apply, all the forms you will need and more. To speak to someone about filling out eligibility forms with the Farm Service Agency (FSA), or to obtain an application, contact your local USDA Service Center. NRCS has provided leadership in a partnership effort to help America's private landowners and managers conserve their soil, water and other natural resources since 1935.

PENAIR CREDIT UNION MAKES $1.7 MILLION COMMITMENT TO UWF ATHLETICS, NAMES FIELD HOUSE The University of West Florida announced a $1.7 million commitment from PenAir Credit Union that will expand the credit union’s longstanding partnership with Argonaut Athletics, including naming the UWF Field House the PenAir Field House and the exclusive premium club space in the new Darrell Gooden Stadium the PenAir Champions Club. “PenAir Credit Union has been an outstanding partner to the University of West Florida for more than 15 years, and we are grateful for their continued commitment to Argonaut Athletics,” said UWF President Manny Diaz Jr. “As we enter this exciting new era of Division I athletics, partnerships like this will help us create transformational experiences for our student-athletes, campus and community.” The investment will support the construction of the Darrell Gooden Stadium and establish a new endowed scholarship that will support future Argo student-athletes. As part of the agreement, PenAir will also become the “Official Credit Union of UWF Athletics.” “PenAir Credit Union has been an incredible partner in the growth of UWF Athletics, and we are grateful for their continued belief in our programs and student-athletes,” said UWF Director of Athletics Dave Scott. “Their commitment reflects a shared vision for what Argonaut Athletics can become and will help us create a premier gameday experience while supporting our student-athletes as we enter this next chapter.” For more than 15 years, PenAir has supported UWF Athletics through scholarship
support and sponsorship. The credit union has helped UWF Athletics create memorable gameday experiences, assisted with football playoff runs, created new gameday traditions, elevated the UWF tailgating experience and provided convenient ATM access for fans attending home athletic events. PenAir’s partnership with UWF extends beyond athletics to include support for student success, scholarships, campus engagement and financial education and wellness. These efforts provide students with resources and opportunities to build financial confidence, prepare for life after graduation and pursue their academic and professional goals. Through its continued partnership with UWF, PenAir supports students across the University, including future educators, health care professionals, business leaders and others who will contribute to the region’s workforce and communities. “Our relationship with UWF has been about creating opportunities for students to succeed,” said Lee Morgan, President and CEO of PenAir Credit Union. “Through athletics, scholarships, financial education and campus engagement, we've worked together to help students prepare for what's next. We're proud to continue building on that foundation and investing in the future of our community.” The partnership extension marks another milestone in the continued growth of UWF Athletics as it prepares for its inaugural Division I season.
