CHEERS TO 30 YEARS EMERALD COAST BEER FESTIVAL RETURNS
By Nic Fenger
P
ensacola's longest-running and largest craft beer tasting event returns to downtown Pensacola on September 11 from 5:30 to 9 pm, celebrating its 30th anniversary with an evening of craft brews, community and remembrance. The Emerald Coast Beer Festival brings together breweries from across the region, giving attendees the chance to sample a wide variety of craft beers while supporting a meaningful cause. This year's festival takes on added meaning as it commemorates the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, giving attendees a chance to come together in remembrance while
enjoying one of Pensacola's favorite annual events. The festival began as the vision of Steve Freed, one of the founding members of the Escambia Bay Homebrewers (EBHB). Today, the EBHB and Seville Quarter host the annual celebration, providing a place for the community to tap into tasteful beer and appreciate artisanal breweries from all over the southeast. “We have in the neighborhood of about 100 members in the club now between Escambia and Santa Rosa counties,” EBHB President Paul Wallis said. “They brew a variety. You think Beer Fest — it’s all beer. Escambia Home Brewers is all about meads, wine and beer. So, we've got the whole gamut of brewers in the club, and there's even a
few distillers, as personal distilling has become more acceptable.” Originally created as a fundraiser for the club, the festival has grown into the largest beer festival on the Gulf Coast and one of the top beer festivals in Pensacola. The festival is a gathering place for beer enthusiasts, brewers and the community, providing an exciting and welcoming environment for brewers to showcase a wide selection of craft beers, meads and wines. Today, proceeds continue to support the EBHB while also benefiting local charities. This year’s festival will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, with a portion of the proceeds helping the organization continue its mission of connecting children facing adversity with caring adult mentors who provide guidance, encouragement and support. Along with supporting a great cause, attendees can sample over 250 craft beers produced by breweries of all sizes from all over the country. A variety of artisanal meads and premium wines will also be available for tasting, providing plenty of options to explore throughout the evening. “You can go through and taste little samples here and there, and if you like it, you get a little bit more,” Wallis said. “If you don't, find a swell bucket and pour it out.” Major breweries such as Anheuser Busch, Miller and Sam Adams will be at the event. Smaller breweries and their craft beverages will also feature at the event strongly, including Chattahoochee Brewing Company from Phenix City, Alabama; Urban South from New Orleans and Boston Beer Company. Patrons can look forward to sampling brews from a variety of
“A lot of really good brewers are home brewers, and this is a big event, so they go all out and brew some really interesting beers — beers you probably never thought of tasting.” As usual, a number of different local homebrewers clubs will also feature alongside the big-name and local breweries to showcase bold artisanal brews that few patrons may find in liquor stores. “So far, we have nine different homebrew clubs that are coming this year,” Wallis said. “A lot of really good brewers are home brewers, and this is a big event, so they go all out and brew some really interesting beers — beers you probably never thought of tasting.” At the event, be on the lookout for clubs such as Random Acts of Brewing, Knights of the Hop Table, Crescent City Homebrewers and many more. You will not want to miss their creative concoctions. General admission tickets can be purchased online at bit.ly/ ECBF30 for $47.20 per ticket. Different promo codes can be applied to the tickets to receive a discount. “General admission tickets are $35 after a promo code, and that gets you in," Wallis said. "You get

BALLET PENSACOLA NAMES BIANCA VILLEGAS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Ballet Pensacola is pleased to announce the appointment of Bianca Villegas as Executive Director, ushering in a new chapter of organizational leadership as Ballet Pensacola enters its 48th season and begins building toward its 50th Anniversary. Bianca steps into the role with a deeply established relationship with Ballet Pensacola and a strong understanding of the organization from the perspectives of leadership, governance, advocacy and community engagement. She has supported Ballet Pensacola nearing a decade as a volunteer and has served on its Board of Directors in recent years, including leadership in development and organizational advancement. As Executive Director, Bianca will work in close partnership with Ballet Pensacola’s Board of Directors, Company Director Veronica Ramirez, Academy Director Debi Janea, and the organization’s artistic and administrative leadership. Her focus will include organizational strategy and sustainability, fundraising and development, institutional and community partnerships, marketing and communications, donor and sponsor engagement and strengthening Ballet Pensacola’s presence and impact throughout the region. “Ballet Pensacola has been part of my life for many years, and I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the extraordinary commitment required to build an organization of this caliber,” said Bianca. “There is tremendous strength in what already exists here in our artists, our Academy, our leadership, our Board, our families, and in the community that has sustained Ballet Pensacola for nearly five decades. As we approach our 50th Anniversary, my responsibility is both to honor that legacy and help position Ballet Pensacola for what comes next. The most enduring organizations are shaped by a shared sense of purpose, strengthened through meaningful collaboration and distinguished by an uncompromising pursuit of excellence. Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to deepen our impact, expand our reach, and ensure Ballet Pensacola remains a vital part of the cultural landscape of our region for many years to come.” Bianca brings a multidisciplinary background spanning nonprofit leadership, development and fundraising, strategic planning, community engagement, communications, board governance, and the arts. Her experience includes leadership within nonprofit and civic organizations in the Pensacola community, where she has worked to cultivate partnerships, strengthen community investment and advance mission-driven initiatives. Her connection to the arts extends beyond organizational leadership. Bianca pursued arts higher education in Madrid and London, receiving formal foundation certification in London and a BA in Madrid. Her professional experience has also included work with luxury lifestyle publications locally and in the Washington, D.C. area, further developing her expertise in communications, brand positioning, relationship building and community engagement. That combination of artistic perspective, nonprofit leadership and longstanding
institutional knowledge will inform Bianca’s approach to leading Ballet Pensacola. Central to that approach is a commitment to collaborative leadership and to supporting the expertise already present within the organization. Bianca will work closely with Veronica Ramirez and the artistic team in advancing the vision and continued development of the professional company, while partnering with Debi Janea to support the continued momentum of strength and growth of the Ballet Pensacola Academy. The Academy has experienced record participation and expanding programming in recent seasons, including Ballet Pensacola’s acceptance into Regional Dance America - Southeast (RDA - SE). Together with the professional company, these programs strengthen a distinctive continuum of dance education, artistic development and professional performance within the organization. Ballet Pensacola currently supports an 19-member professional company of dancers from around the country and the world, and an Academy serving approximately 350 students, while presenting professional productions, educational opportunities and community outreach throughout Northwest Florida. Bianca’s appointment comes at a significant point in Ballet Pensacola’s history. Founded in 1978 by Italian-trained dancer and teacher Gioia Michelotti as Kaleidoscope Dance Theatre, the organization has grown from its beginnings as a performance opportunity for young dancers into a professional ballet company and Academy with a nearly five-decade legacy of dance education and performance. As Ballet Pensacola moves toward its 50th Anniversary, Bianca and the organization’s leadership will focus not only on commemorating that history, but on establishing the strategic, financial, artistic and community foundation necessary for its next era. “Our 50th Anniversary gives us an opportunity to look back with tremendous gratitude, but it also asks us to look forward with purpose,” said Bianca. “The legacy of Ballet Pensacola belongs to every dancer, teacher, artistic leader, Board member, family, donor, volunteer and audience member who has helped bring us here. Our work now is to build upon that legacy with intention and create an organization prepared to thrive for the next 50 years and beyond.” About Ballet Pensacola Founded in 1978, Ballet Pensacola enhances the cultural life of the community by developing an appreciation and knowledge of dance through quality dance performances and exceptional dance training. Through its professional company, Academy, educational programming and community outreach, Ballet Pensacola provides exceptional opportunities for professional artists and developing dancers while bringing the artistry, discipline and transformative power of dance to audiences throughout the region. As Ballet Pensacola enters its 48th season, the organization continues to build upon nearly five decades of artistic excellence while looking ahead to its milestone 50th Anniversary.

HM1 AUSTIN PEEVEY REFLECTS ON HIS USE OF TCCC DURING OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Austin Peevey, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) instructor, assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Pensacola, credits his medical training for his ability to provide critical care in combat emergencies. Those hard-earned experiences shaped him as the Corpsman he is today and how it inspired him to train future generations of military medical professionals. In 2011, Peevey deployed to Afghanistan with 81mm Mortar Platoon, Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During the deployment, an improvised explosive device (IED) intended for U.S. forces was detonated when children from a local village began playing with it. The blast resulted in a mass-casualty incident involving eight civilians, most of whom were children, along with several adult women. “No one died, everyone got injured, they suffered blast injuries and penetrating shrapnel” said Peevey. The casualties were medically evacuated to a main outpost where Peevey and a few other Corpsmen remained ready to provide care. The medical team utilized TCCC protocols to triage the casualties and determine who required critical attention. “My adrenaline was pumping and I wasn’t thinking but just moving off muscle memory and addressing the wounds one by one” said Peevey as he reflected. Peevey credits his readiness during the chaotic incident to the repetition of lifesaving exercises during his prior training. These exercises include critical, high-stress medical interventions. “An example of interventions would be the medical procedures of needle decompression and cricothyrotomy,” said Peevey. “Needle decompression helps release trapped air from the chest, while cricothyrotomy creates an emergency airway through the neck when a person cannot breathe through their normal airway. The practice of performing the exercises over and over prepares you to be able to perform under pressure". “We started off by applying tourniquets, gauze, and pressure dressing to ensure control of bleeding while assessing and treating further injuries,” said Peevey. “A lot of tourniquets were applied, the tourniquets worked on pediatric patients and held out good”.
The team used pressure dressings and combat gauze to stop arterial bleeding in deeper wounds where the tourniquets could not be applied while additional bandages and ointment were applied to small bruises and cuts. During TCCC training instructors frequently use loud speakers to blast noise, creating a distracting and chaotic environment. “The simulation of overwhelming noises is used to help you work through stressful conditions,” said Peevey. “If you can work through it in training then you’ll be able to work through real scenarios”. “It was chaotic with all the screaming and kids crying,” said Peevey. “It was like I had to block out all of the distractions and focus on treating the injuries”. Despite the distractions, Peevey remained focused on his training. “The thoughts running through my mind were ‘Is the kid breathing? Let me check. He has a patent airway and he is making noise which should mean his airway is good for now. Where is the kid bleeding? Did I check his arm or leg and where do I need to wrap a bandage?’” he explained. All of the injured survived after being treated and they were then medically evacuated from the outpost to a U.S. base for further advanced care. Peevey says going through the experience strengthened his clinical skills and solidified his capabilities as a Corpsman. Reflecting on the incident and the sheer volume of casualties, he noted, “It’s like drinking from the fire hose and getting blasted by it”, he said. Providing life-saving care in a combat environment ultimately inspired Peevey to become a TCCC instructor. “I became a TCCC instructor to be able to ensure readiness in Corpsmen,” Peevey said. “It’s good to know that I can instill confidence in a student to hopefully go out there and save lives whether it is in battle or anywhere”. His advice to his students is simple, but vital. “Pay attention as much as possible to what is being taught in training, don’t take anything as a joke,” said Peevey. “Do the best you can when performing on dummies and learn the material. The muscle memory from training translates to the real practices used on an actual person, the confidence developed from training is what instills us to provide quality care”.
NAS PENSACOLA PARTNERS WITH UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA TO SAFEGUARD ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIFACTS In an effort to preserve regional history and cultural heritage, volunteers from Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola and the University of Georgia (UGA) teamed up to transfer more than 900 boxes of archaeological artifacts and records from the installation to the university, Aug. 12. The initiative, spearheaded by the NAS Pensacola Public Works Department, is designed to enhance the curation, analysis, and long-term protection of the Navy's historical collections. Carrie Williams-Hannah, NAS Pensacola’s Cultural Resources Manager, secured funding to correct deficiencies in the installation's previous curation program. The resulting contract, awarded to UGA, covers comprehensive artifact processing, analysis, collection rehabilitation, and database entry. “Maintaining the artifact collection is about preserving institutional history, protecting cultural and scientific heritage, supporting research and scholarship, maintaining provenience and context, educating the public, supporting the Navy’s mission, preserving information for future generations, demonstrating responsible stewardship and protecting against loss of knowledge,” Williams-Hannah said. “Beyond compliance with the laws and regulations, it is about preserving evidence, knowledge, history, and public heritage that the federal government has been entrusted to protect.” The UGA team previously conducted a site visit in April to inspect the extensive collection and prepare for its safe transport. The transferred materials include excavated remains gathered during various archaeological surveys and studies of prehistoric and historic resources on the installation, along with their associated records. Additionally, extra copies of investigation reports and documentation will be scanned for modern electronic access. The permanent transfer to UGA brings NAS Pensacola into full compliance with the
federal regulation governing the curation of federally owned or administered archaeological collections, offering multiple strategic benefits to the Navy. “This contract will also provide the Navy with a database of all artifacts recovered from NAS Pensacola which will advise the Navy of all items in the collection, provide information on artifacts requiring stabilization and/ or conservation and render the data more accessible for management and research,” Williams-Hannah explained. She also noted the strategic geographic benefit of the move. “Further, the relocation of the artifacts farther inland will keep the material out of harm's way in the event of adverse weather occurrences,” she said. While the collection is permanently moving to the university, ties to the local community will remain intact. “Yes, it is permanent, but we will still loan artifacts to our local partners in preservation and history via UGA,” Williams-Hannah added. The sheer scale of moving over 900 boxes required significant manpower, leading to a massive joint volunteer effort. Navy personnel, civilian staff and university representatives worked side-by-side to accomplish the heavy lifting. “A huge thank you to the volunteers,” Williams-Hannah said following the load-out. “If not for them, we would still be loading artifacts!” Founded in 1826, Naval Air Station Pensacola, known as the “Cradle of Naval Aviation,” supports operational and training missions for several tenant commands, Naval Air Technical Training Center, Naval Aviation Schools Command and Center for Technical Training. The installation also hosts Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 and Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23 and serves as the headquarters for Naval Education and Training Command. In addition to an active airfield, NAS Pensacola maintains a deepwater port supporting operations for the U.S. Coast Guard.

GOVERNOR RON DESANTIS UNVEILS LADY COLUMBIA STATUE IN COLUMBIA COUNTY, ANNOUNCES NEARLY $15.6 MILLION FOR FLORIDA’S SMALL AND RURAL COUNTIES Governor Ron DeSantis unveiled a statue of Lady Columbia in Lake City as Florida continues its commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary and builds on its efforts to preserve and honor the people and events that shaped the nation. The governor also announced nearly $15.6 million in awards to 23 small and rural communities across the state to support critical infrastructure and community development projects. “I was proud to unveil the latest in a series of statues commemorating America’s 250th anniversary,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Today, we honored the history and legacy of Florida’s pioneer spirit by unveiling a statue of Lady Columbia in Lake City, the seat of Columbia County. The Lady Columbia statue stands on a pedestal depicting the Sunshine State’s iconic symbols, landscapes and historic moments. Be sure to stop by next time you are in Lake City.” “A timeless beacon of freedom, Lady Columbia represents America’s progress and inspires us with hope,” said Secretary of State Cord Byrd. “The pedestal of this monument celebrates our state’s proud heritage, honoring Florida’s unique role in shaping the greater American story. I encourage all Floridians to visit this and the other statues we’ve unveiled as part of America250FL.” “Florida’s success begins with strong communities,” said Secretary of Commerce, J. Alex Kelly. “Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida’s is investing in projects that improve critical infrastructure, strengthen local economies and create new opportunities for Florida families, job seekers and job creators to thrive—getting communities the resources they need to support long-term economic growth and build an even brighter future.” “Columbia takes her rightful place in Columbia County, the Gateway to Florida, as part of Florida’s statue series honoring America,” said Bryan Griffin, President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA. “Florida's America 250 commemorations continue all year long, and these monuments will remain for generations to come. Come to Florida, bring the family, experience history, and join the celebration." Lady Columbia emerged as a personification of America in the 19th century and became a symbol of the nation, liberty and the pioneering spirit. She is perhaps best known from John Gast’s 1872 painting American Progress and was a predecessor to Uncle Sam. Her name traces back to Christopher
Columbus and connects her to the earliest chapters of American and Florida history. The statue’s placement in Columbia County is fitting. American pioneers began settling the area in the 1820s, when it served as a waypoint between the Spanish missions in St. Augustine and Tallahassee. In 1832, Florida’s territorial legislature established Columbia County from portions of Alachua and Duval counties. The county seat was established at Alligator Town, which was renamed Lake City when the railroad arrived in 1859. The railroad helped Lake City grow into a regional hub for timber and agriculture. During World War II, the community became a site for military training, with Lake City Naval Air Station established as a support facility for Naval Air Station Jacksonville. Today, Lake City remains at the heart of North Florida, surrounded by the region’s springs, rivers and forests and home to important historic and cultural institutions. The unveiling continues Florida’s efforts to recognize Americans and historical figures who have shaped the nation and state during the America250 commemoration. Last year, Governor DeSantis announced plans to place statues of Founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Monroe, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington and James Madison, in counties bearing their names. The state has also unveiled statues honoring figures including President Ronald Reagan, Frederick Douglass, President Calvin Coolidge, Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Jackson. Alongside the statue unveiling, Governor DeSantis announced nearly $15.6 million in funding for 23 small and rural communities through the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant and Community Planning Technical Assistance Grant programs. The awards will support critical infrastructure investments and community development projects across rural Florida. In Columbia County, the City of Lake City was awarded $211,000 through the Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program to repave a portion of NW Georgia Avenue from Early Street to Wilson Street. The project will provide a safer roadway and improve access to homes, schools and local services. Columbia County was also awarded $65,000 through the Community Planning Technical Assistance Grant Program to update the county’s Economic Development Strategic Plan.
UWF ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL LEADERS IN SERVICE SUMMIT The University of West Florida Police Department will host the inaugural Leaders in Service Summit on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, at the UWF Conference Center on the University’s Pensacola campus. This event will bring together leaders and professionals from law enforcement, fire service, military, public safety and related fields for a day focused on service-driven leadership and collaboration. Centered on the theme “Duty, Distinction and Direction,” the summit will explore what it means to lead with purpose while navigating the evolving challenges facing service professions. The event is designed to foster meaningful dialogue, strengthen relationships across agencies and organizations, and provide practical insights leaders can take back to their communities. “This summit aims to bring together leaders from across our service professions to learn from one another, build relationships and strengthen our collective ability to serve Northwest Florida,” said UWF President Manny Diaz Jr. “We are proud to create a space where those conversations can begin and where leaders can return to their organizations with new perspectives, connections and a renewed sense of purpose in their work.” Unlike a traditional conference, the UWF Leaders in Service Summit will emphasize participation and collaboration through interactive table exercises, keynote presenta-
tions, panel discussions and opportunities for networking and cross-agency conversation. Keynote speakers include Dr. Robin Griffin-Kitzerow, police chief at the University of Central Florida, who will present “The Making of a Leader: Her Journey to the Top,” and Naval Air Station Pensacola Commander Capt. Chandra Newman, who will share her “Career of Success.” The summit also will feature a panel discussion with panelists from the UWF Police, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Florida State Attorney Office and UWF Office of Military Services. The summit is intended for both emerging and experienced leaders, providing opportunities to learn from others, exchange perspectives and build connections across traditionally separate service sectors. “As Deputy Chief of Police at the University of West Florida, I am elated to bring the first ever Leaders in Service Summit to our university and community,” said UWF Deputy Chief of Police Deborah Fletcher. “This seminar brings leaders together to focus on collaboration and building relationships, while exploring how we can better serve the people we lead, the people we work with, and the communities we represent.” The UWF Leaders in Service Summit will take place from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Oct. 29, 2026, at the UWF Conference Center. Registration is $129 per person and is open through Friday, Oct. 16.

FOXTAIL COFFEE CO. BRINGS CRAFT COFFEE TO PENSACOLA Foxtail Coffee Co. is bringing an extensive menu of craft coffees and its signature café experience to Pensacola with the opening of its first local café at 500 W Jackson St. The 1,924-square-foot café officially opens on Wednesday, August 19, marking Foxtail’s 122nd location and the latest addition to the growing footprint. Owned and operated by Pensacola local Blaine Flynn, the new location combines Foxtail’s distinctive offerings with a design deeply rooted in the community's history and character. Housed within a historic building, the space was thoughtfully designed to preserve its existing character while revealing elements of Pensacola’s story throughout the café. Rather than a traditional mural, the design uses carved details to create the sense of history being uncovered beneath layers of old plaster. The artwork pays tribute to the people, places and traditions that have shaped Pensacola, including the Blue Angels, Five Flags, iconic local landmarks and the blues music heritage of the Belmont-DeVilliers neighborhood. The result is a café that honors the character of Pensacola while providing a revived gathering place for the community. “Having grown up in Pensacola and spent much of my career developing and building within this community, I’m excited to bring Foxtail to the city I call home,” said Blaine Flynn. “From my first visit to Foxtail, I knew I wanted to be part of the family. The team’s passion for their product and process shines through with a welcoming, boutique feel that makes you want to stay awhile.” Foxtail Coffee Co. has built a loyal following for its small-batch roasted coffee, handcrafted espresso beverages and thoughtfully designed cafés that encourage guests to slow down and enjoy the experience. Foxtail’s handcrafted gelato will also be available, adding another option for guests to enjoy throughout the day.
The new location will feature Foxtail's complete menu of espresso drinks, cold brews, signature lattes, seasonal beverages and organic teas, along with breakfast sandwiches, fresh bagels, pressed paninis and an assortment of baked goods. Guests can also purchase whole-bean coffee, branded merchandise and gift items. Comfortable seating, complimentary Wi-Fi and inviting workspaces make the café equally suited for business meetings, remote work, study sessions or relaxing with friends over coffee or ice cream. To celebrate, Foxtail Coffee Co. will host a grand opening celebration on Friday, August 21, from 10 am to 2 p.m, with a ribbon cutting at noon. The event will feature complimentary samples, local vendors and a special gift with purchase for the first 50 customers. Children 12 and under can also enjoy complimentary gelato. The celebration will mark the official opening of Foxtail’s newest location and its introduction to the Pensacola community! Hours of Operation • Daily: 6:00 am – 8:00 pm About Foxtail Coffee Co. Foxtail Coffee Co., we have been brewing craft coffee since opening our first café and roasting facility in Winter Park, Florida, in 2016. Founded on the principles of roasting and serving smooth coffee in a warm and inviting environment, we quickly established a loyal following of coffee lovers who crave our company's unique approach to creating high-quality beverages. Since then, Foxtail has continued to grow, now offering more than 110 locations in Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, Arizona, Virginia, and North Carolina. Our quaint and comfortable spaces feature rustic decor, cozy seating areas, and friendly staff. We consider producing coffee an art and serving it a celebration. We believe it should be savored and celebrated— with the ability to uplift our customers and our communities.

FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT’S INVESTMENTS IN SOLAR DELIVER MORE THAN $1.3 BILLION IN CUSTOMER SAVINGS Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced today it has reached a major milestone in its continuous commitment to deliver value and to provide reliable service to customers while keeping bills as low as possible: 120 solar energy centers are now operating across the state, representing the largest utility-scale solar portfolio in America. Why it matters: FPL's investments in solar energy have helped save customers more than $1.3 billion to date by avoiding fuel costs. With the addition of twelve new solar energy centers in 2026, including the recently completed FPL Sea Grape Solar Energy Center in St. Lucie County, FPL's solar portfolio now totals approximately 8,826 megawatts of generation capacity. That's enough energy to power more than 1.5 million homes. "This milestone reflects years of smart investments on behalf of our customers," said Tim Oliver, vice president of FPL Development. "A diverse portfolio of generation resources, including solar energy, natural gas, nuclear power and battery storage technology, allows us to optimize our system and deliver reliable electricity while helping keep customer bills as low as possible." What this means for Florida: • Solar energy centers are operating in 30 counties statewide. • Sites support jobs and, in 2025 alone, contributed nearly $40 million in local property taxes across Florida. • Homegrown energy helps diversify Florida's energy supply. • Solar works alongside other resources to meet growing customer demand. “FPL's investment in solar has created a meaningful opportunity for communities like ours,” said Benjamin Balcer, director of Planning and Development Services for St. Lucie County. “These projects attract investment, support local economies and help strengthen Florida's diverse energy infrastructure.” Commitment to stewardship: FPL solar energy centers are designed to support environmental stewardship by providing habitats for native wildlife and pollinators while producing electricity for
homes and businesses across Florida. The company is also adding agrivoltaics projects – the co-use of land for solar energy production and agricultural activities – at several of its sites demonstrating it continues to innovate and find ways for agriculture and solar to work together to maximize efficient land use. “This approach allows the land to serve two purposes at once, supporting both solar energy production and cattle grazing,” said Florida rancher, Morgan Lott. “The cattle help manage vegetation, reducing mowing needs, and FPL has been a collaborative partner throughout the process." By the numbers: • $1.3 billion+ in customer savings from solar investments • 8,826 MW of solar generation capacity • 1.5 million+ homes powered by reliable, low-cost solar energy • 120 solar energy centers operating across Florida • 12 solar energy centers added in 2026 • 30 counties home to FPL solar energy centers • 53 solar sites with active agrivoltaics pilots About Florida Power & Light Company Florida Power & Light Company is America’s largest electric utility, delivering reliable power to more than 6 million customer accounts — serving approximately 12 million people across Florida. By leveraging a diverse energy mix, including nuclear, natural gas, solar and battery storage, FPL operates one of the most fuel- and cost-efficient power generation fleets in the U.S. and has earned the ReliabilityOne® National Reliability Award for seven of the last ten years. FPL is a subsidiary of Juno Beach, Florida-based NextEra Energy, Inc. (NYSE: NEE), which is one of the largest electric power and energy infrastructure companies in North America and is a leading provider of electricity to American homes and businesses. NextEra Energy is also the parent company of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, which, together with its affiliated entities, is advancing America’s energy future with one of the largest and most diverse portfolios of power generation and infrastructure solutions.
