ANNOUNCES 2026 GRANT RECIPIENTS

Pensacola Opera’s Rock the Runway

he Pensacola Foo Foo Festival Committee announced the public grant scoring for the 13th annual Foo Foo Festival in late April, naming 12 local grant recipients and allocating nearly $500,000 in grant funding for this year’s series of events. The 2026 grant winners include 309 Punk Project, Ballet Pensacola, Fiesta Pensacola, Friends of Downtown, Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida, Night Moves Inc, PenArts, Pensacola MESS Hall, Pensacola Museum of Art, Pensacola State College, Pensacola Opera and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra (PSO). The 2026 Foo Foo Festival will take place in Pensacola October 29 through November 9. Grant recipients will produce a series of performances and events across the categories of fine art, live music, dance, anime, immersive theatre and more as part of this year’s cultural celebration. “We are thrilled with the outcome of this year’s grant scoring, and we look forward to presenting another unforgettable year of events celebrating the rich culture and community that exists here in Pensacola,” Pensacola Foo Foo Festival Chairperson Warren Sonnen said. “This year, we look forward to showcasing the return of seasoned Foo Foo Festival alum as we prepare for another dynamic round-up of events this Fall.” The 2026 grant recipients include: 309 Punk Project 309 Punk Project is the only artist-run nonprofit organization in the South committed solely to archiving the creative efforts of the punk culture of the region. It is 309 Punk Project’s primary goal to serve the local and regional community as an archive, residency and venue for divergent practices in DIY culture and contemporary art that critically examines the sociopolitical cultural moment that is shaping lives. In 2026, Punk Project will present the return of HalloZine Fest, a two-day interactive arts event October 29 to 30, celebrating the resurgence of Zine culture through workshops, exhibitions, film and live performances. Ballet Pensacola The mission of Ballet Pensacola is to enhance the cultural life of the Pensacola community by developing an appreciation and knowledge of dance by producing quality dance performances and exceptional dance training. In 2026, Ballet Pensacola will present Carnival of the Animals –

a collaborative, family-focused event uniting Ballet Pensacola and the Pensacola Humane Society to blend high-quality dance with community engagement during the Pensacola Foo Foo Festival November 1 to 3. Inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns’ classic composition, the production will feature multiple performances with young dancers, elaborate costumes, puppetry and interactive elements, culminating in a lively Parade of Animals. Pensacola Opera The mission of Pensacola Opera is to enrich the culture of Northwest Florida by producing professional opera performances, educational programs and other opera-related community events for people of all ages, interests and backgrounds. On November 4, Pensacola Opera will fuse high fashion, iconic rock anthems and operatic power in the return of Rock the Runway: Living Art at the Saenger Theatre — an immersive event blending opera, fashion, dance and visual art into a theatrical runway experience. Building on last year’s success, the production features opera singers, Ballet Pensacola dancers, a live band and community models who bring iconic operatic scenes to life through a fusion of classical arias and contemporary music, enhanced by large-scale projections and storytelling. Fiesta Pensacola The mission of Fiesta Pensacola is to celebrate the city’s rich heritage, promote tourism and build pride in Pensacola through festive activities that enhance the quality of life in the Pensacola community. On November 5, Fiesta Pensacola will present Living Museum – an immersive, interactive cultural event at the Pensacola Museum of History that transforms the space into a living timeline of the city’s 467-year history through costumed performances and first-person storytelling. Pensacola Museum of Art The Pensacola Museum of Art (PMA) aims to facilitate the preservation, understanding and engagement of visual culture for audiences in the Northwest Florida region and beyond. In 2026, the PMA will present a multi-day series of events entitled STEAM2026: Exploring Wonder — an exhibition featuring artist talks, performances, workshops and public engagement opportunities. Programming begins on November 3, with a collaborative perfor-

mance by Nathalie Miebach and a Pensacola Symphony Orchestra string quartet interpreting weather data, followed by additional artist talks, panels and themed tours for families and adults on Thursday and Friday evenings. The series culminates in a free public day on November 7, featuring hands-on activities and exhibitions, along with fee-based workshops led by nationally recognized artists featured in the triennial. Together, these events are designed to spark curiosity, expand access to contemporary art and deepen community interaction with the museum’s STEAM-focused programming. Friends of Downtown The mission of Friends of Downtown is to enhance the district’s quality of life and economic success by creating a cleaner, safer and more enjoyable environment. Friends of Downtown will present Lightspill, a large-scale, temporary public art installation that transforms the historic Artel Gallery in downtown Pensacola into a striking visual landmark using cascading mirrored spheres that create the illusion of a fluid, reflective surface. Designed as an immersive and highly photogenic experience, the installation aims to attract residents and visitors alike. The installation will be on view October 29 through November 9. Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida The Japan-America Society of Northwest Florida, Inc. (JAS of NWFL) is a private, non-profit, taxexempt 501(c)3 organization, with membership consisting of both individuals and interested organizations. The Society’s mission is to work toward fostering and promoting stronger ties of friendship and understanding between the U.S. and Japan. The goal is to cultivate and enrich mutually beneficial relationships between the U.S. and Japan, based on a spirit of goodwill. For its third consecutive year, Japan-America Society will produce the HizashiCon Anime Festival, a vibrant three-day community-powered anime and Japanese pop culture convention celebrating creativity, inclusion and cross-cultural connection, taking place October 31 through November 1. PenArts PenArts is a non-profit (501c3) that brings theatrical arts to all members of the Pensacola community and professional theatrical

productions to an already vibrant Pensacola theatre scene. In 2026, PenArts will present the highly theatrical musical Side Show by Bill Russell and Henry Krieger for the first time in Pensacola. The production will be expanded into an immersive, circusinspired experience at The Gordon October 30 through November 8. Night Moves Inc Night Moves is a Pensacolabased nonprofit dedicated to strengthening the city’s music culture by attracting world-class artists while supporting emerging local talent, with Night Moves Music Fest serving as its flagship event with the Pensacola Foo Foo Festival. In 2026, Night Moves Music Fest will expand into a multi-day, citywide experience October 30 through November 8, activating multiple downtown venues for concerts and other live music performances. Pensacola MESS Hall The mission of Pensacola MESS Hall is to inspire curiosity, experimentation and creative problemsolving through exploration of math, engineering, science and stuff. From October 30 through November 9, the Pensacola MESS Hall will present Science on the Street, transforming downtown Pensacola into an interactive science experience focused on the physics and perception of sound. The initiative will feature multiple sound booth sessions and handson installations along Palafox Street, designed to engage audiences of all ages as they explore how sound is created and travels. Pensacola Symphony Orchestra The mission of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is to promote the well-being of the greater Pensacola community through excellence in live symphonic music and lifelong learning through engaging musical activities. In 2026, the PSO will present Mozart & Bizet on November 7 at the Saenger Theatre. Featuring Music Director Peter Rubardt, pianist Carter Johnson and a full orchestra performing works by Stravinsky, Mozart and Bizet, the program includes both an afternoon open dress rehearsal and an evening concert, offering accessible entry points for visitors, students and families while showcasing a rare full-scale symphonic performance in a historic venue. Internationally acclaimed pianist Carter Johnson will be featured as soloist, bringing significant artistic prestige and global recognition to the event.

Pensacola State College Pensacola State College (PSC) is a public, comprehensive community college first founded as Pensacola Junior College in 1948. From November 2 through November 5, PSC will present a multi-event program exploring the rapidly evolving and controversial role of artificial intelligence in art, highlighting how machine learning is reshaping creative practice through generation, augmentation and analysis of visual media. The centerpiece of the series is Ai-Da, the world’s first ultra-realistic robot artist, whose work and persona challenge traditional boundaries between human and machine creativity, while prompting reflection on digital identity, algorithmic influence and the future of art. The programming includes a signature live demonstration and panel discussion at the Saenger Theatre on November 3, alongside additional lectures, receptions and a family-focused event in partnership with the Pensacola MESS Hall, featuring experts from institutions such as the Institute of Human and Machine Cognition and Persona AI. Non-profit organizations that were not selected, and for-profit partners who are interested in participating in this year’s festival, are encouraged to do so as a Friend of Foo, receiving local, regional and national visibility during the 12-day series of events via Foo Foo Fest’s regional marketing campaign. For the first time, the Pensacola Foo Foo Festival also invites Escambia County-based restaurants, bars and restaurateurs to apply to be featured as a Foo Foo On the Menu partner, showcasing the diversity of Pensacola’s food and beverage scene, with unique, limited-time menu items made available throughout the run of the 2026 Foo Foo Festival. Now in its 10th year, this beloved community tradition will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Hunter Amphitheater behind Blue Wahoo’s Stadium in downtown Pensacola. This year’s event is especially meaningful as we celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, honoring 250 years of freedom, service, sacrifice and the enduring American spirit. This free, family-friendly event brings together music, patriotism and community spirit for an unforgettable evening along Pensacola Bay. The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra will perform a specially curated program featuring patriotic favorites and stirring musical tributes that celebrate America’s heritage and honor those who have served our country. Honoring America and Those Who Serve The evening will begin with a Presentation of Colors by the United States Marine Corps, followed by the National Anthem and a thrilling flyover by United States Navy aircraft across Pensacola Bay. The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra will then take the stage, performing a powerful concert that includes military service songs representing each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, recognizing and celebrating the sacrifices of our nation’s servicemen and women. This year’s celebration will also feature a special performance by the renowned McGuire’s Pipe Band, whose stirring blend of traditional Celtic music and patriotic favorites has become a cherished part of Pensacola’s cultural landscape. CITY OF MILTON AND PENSACOLA & PERDIDO BAYS ESTUARY PROGRAM INVITE COMMUNITY TO CARPENTER'S PARK OPEN HOUSE The City of Milton, in partnership with the Pensacola & Perdido Bays Estuary Program (PPBEP), invites the community to attend a public open house on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Milton City Hall, 6738 Dixon Street, to learn about ongoing research and restoration planning efforts focused on the environmental health, history, and future of Carpenter's Park and the surrounding Blackwater River watershed. Supported through the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program (PPBEP), the project brings together researchers, environmental professionals, and community stakeholders to better understand the park's environmental conditions, history and future restoration opportunities. Researchers from the University of West Florida and project partners have been studying water quality, habitat conditions, historical ecology and site characteristics that influence the health of the park and surrounding waterways. "By combining science, history, and community engagement, we're gaining a better understanding of this important waterfront area and helping ensure it remains a vibrant community asset and environmental resource for generations to come," said Matt Posner, Director of the Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program.

Residents are encouraged to attend the open house, meet project partners and learn more about the research taking place at Carpenter's Park. Interactive displays will highlight: • Water quality monitoring and watershed conditions • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and topographic surveys • Historical ecology, including changes in fish, wildlife, aquatic plants and habitat over time • Human and natural influences affecting sediment, nutrients, and water quality • Historical research documenting the evolution of the park and surrounding area The information gathered through this effort will help guide future restoration planning and identify opportunities to improve habitat, water quality, ecosystem health, and community resilience. "Every landscape tells a story," said Dr. Matthew Schwartz of the University of West Florida. "Through historical records, environmental monitoring and site investigations, we're piecing together how this area has changed over time and identifying opportunities to support a healthier ecosystem moving forward."

FRICKER CENTER RENOVATION GROUNDBREAKING RESCHEDULED TO JUNE 26 The City of Pensacola's Fricker Resource Center Groundbreaking event has been rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, due to inclement weather. City residents and neighbors are invited to join us next week at the Fricker Center, located at 900 N. F Street. The groundbreaking event will mark the start of exterior renovations at the beloved community center, supporting the city's strategic plan goals of connecting communities through public spaces and honoring neighborhood culture and legacy. “The Fricker Resource Center renovation project has the potential to be one of the most transformative initiatives in our department’s history," Parks and Recreation Director Tonya Byrd said. "This investment goes far beyond improving a facility—it represents an opportunity to strengthen an entire neighborhood through expanded services, programs, and resources that directly impact residents’ quality of life." All residents and community members are invited to join the City of Pensacola, Mayor D.C. Reeves, Pensacola City Council members and others in celebrating this transformational project. Project Timeline • Senior Programming relocated to Bayview Senior Center beginning May 18. • Parks and Recreation’s After School Programming ended on May 22. Summer campers were accommodated at Woodland Heights and Cobb Resource Centers. • Fricker Center closed May 23. • Center staff relocated to other centers on May 26.

• Green Simmons has begun interior demolition and construction of the stormwater improvements. • Demolition of the building exterior has commenced, with new building walls going up within 30-60 days. • The center will reopen with services in June 2027. With nearly $10 million in grant funding awarded in 2023 and some Local Option Sales Tax funds, the project will enable Fricker to offer a wide variety of leisure and cultural activities, special events, and services that promote health, exercise, fitness, relaxation, enjoyment and learning. The renovated center will include: • A career lab • A senior center • STEM Lab for students • Health and wellness access • Increased weather resiliency, including expanded stormwater treatment • Increased parking • ADA-compliant playground updates • A multipurpose field/green space • Additional renovations to restrooms, entryways, the kitchen, social hall, library and more. "We’re building more than just a facility— we’re building a space that reflects the heart of this community,” Mayor D.C. Reeves said. “Our goal is to maintain what we already have and make it resilient enough to endure for many more years to come.” The Fricker project is part of the city's Direction 25 program, a nearly $22 million effort to invest in and revitalize parks and public recreation spaces across the city.

DONUT STRIKE FOR MANNA FOOD AND FUNDS DRIVE IS JUNE 24-26

Escambia County recently deployed 43 new artificial reefs, providing excellent habitats for marine life and adding even more local reef sites for anglers and divers to explore. The reefs were deployed by the Escambia County Marine Resources Division and Walter Marine, with 217 concrete modules distributed across the 43 artificial reef locations. Funding sources for the new artificial reefs included: • $500,000 from Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment for 39 sites • $60,000 from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Artificial Reef Program, funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Sport Fish Restoration Program for three sites One of the new artificial reefs was privately funded by friends and family of the late Capt. Robert Edward "Eddie" Lively, a local charter

Local firefighters and law enforcement officers are answering a different kind of emergency call: the growing need for food assistance in our community. These brave men and women will be trading donuts for donations as they rally the community together to help fight local hunger. No sprinkles. No glaze. No jelly-filled treats — until families have the food they need. That’s the message behind the annual Donut Strike for Manna. From Wednesday, June 24, through Friday, June 26, first responders are going on strike against the disc-shaped delicacies to inspire donations of food and funds to support hungry neighbors in need. They won’t give in until truckloads of healthy, nonperishable food have been donated. Each day of the Donut Strike, first responders will be stationed at grocery stores across Escambia and Santa Rosa counties from 3:00 to 6:00 PM to collect nutritious food and monetary donations. Entering its ninth year, the annual pastry protest has become a powerful force for good, generating the equivalent of more than a quarter-million healthy meals for local children and families facing food insecurity. boat captain and lifelong deep sea fisherman who passed away in 2025. These artificial reefs are constructed as part of an experimental design process, which provides opportunities for scientific research and insight into optimal designs for future artificial reef projects. The artificial reef experimental design process was a collaborative effort by the Escambia County Marine Resources Division, Escambia County Marine Advisory Committee, Santa Rosa County Environmental Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Sea Grant, University of West Florida and Escambia County high schools' science staff, teachers and students. The location of the new artificial reefs is 4.5 nautical miles at 110 degrees from Pensacola Pass, with water depths of 45-55 feet. UWF STUDENT RECEIVES LAFAYETTE FELLOWSHIP University of West Florida senior environmental science major Elisabetta Savini was selected out of 3,400 applicants nationwide as one of 30 students awarded the prestigious Lafayette Fellowship, a new program funded by the French government to strengthen ties between the United States and France. Savini’s application process was supported by the John W. Merting Family Office of National Fellowships, which provides UWF students with guidance, mentorship and resources to pursue prestigious national and international awards. DISASTER DASH 5K HELPS KICK OFF HURRICANE SEASON PREPAREDNESS As Atlantic Hurricane Season begins, approximately 400 participants, including 250 runners, gathered in downtown Pensacola on June 6, 2026, for the 3rd Annual Disaster Dash 5K, hosted by Be Ready Alliance Coordinating for Emergencies (BRACE). Now in its third year, the Disaster Dash has become an annual tradition that brings the community together while highlighting the importance of disaster preparedness. Held each June near the start of hurricane season, the event serves as a reminder that preparedness begins long before a storm is in the forecast. The Disaster Dash is one of three annual preparedness events hosted by BRACE, alongside the Disaster Services Expo and the Faith Community Emergency Summit. Together, these events help raise awareness of disaster readiness and encourage residents to take practical steps to prepare themselves, their families, and their businesses before emergencies occur. "We cannot stop hurricanes, tornadoes, or other disasters from occurring, but we can prepare for them," said Dr. Nick Jackson, CEO of BRACE. "The Disaster Dash is a fun way to remind people that preparedness starts before there is a storm in the forecast. Every emergency plan created and every disaster kit assembled helps make our community stronger and safer." SURVEY SHOWS MOST RESIDENTS THINK CITY IS HEADED IN RIGHT DIRECTION

SANTA ROSA COUNTY CUTS RIBBON ON LIVING SHORELINE PROJECT IN FLORIDATOWN PARK

Nearly two-thirds of residents believe Pensacola is headed in the right direction and making progress on efforts that are making their city a better place. That is a key finding of the Resident Satisfaction Survey conducted by the University of West Florida's Haas Center, which has completed the survey since 2019. The annual survey provides an opportunity for residents to share their opinions on city services, facilities and initiatives. Mayor D.C. Reeves and his leadership team use the data to help guide discussions and strategic planning. “What gets measured gets improved,” Reeves sad. “That’s a truism that I have seen play out time and time again. The Residents Satisfaction survey is an important tool we can use as a checkpoint for our progress and guardrails to help guide where our efforts should focus.” Key points from this year’s survey results include: • 66 percent of residents believe the city is moving in the right direction. • Residents continued to express a high appreciation and care for Waterfront

Santa Rosa County officials, community members and project partners gathered today at Floridatown Park to celebrate the completion of the Floridatown Park Living Shoreline Project, the first project of its kind in Santa Rosa County and a major effort to protect the park’s shoreline, preserve historical resources, and improve the health of Escambia Bay. Floridatown Park provides public boating access and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. Over the years, the shoreline experienced significant erosion from storms, storm surge and hurricanes, including Hurricanes Ivan and Sally. To address the erosion, Santa Rosa County constructed approximately 1,000 feet of living shoreline. Unlike traditional hardened shoreline protection, living shorelines use natural materials and vegetation to reduce erosion, improve water quality and create habitat for fish and wildlife. “Floridatown Park is more than just a boat ramp and recreation area—it’s a place

About the Survey: The survey was conducted from Feb. 23, 2026 to April 3, 2026, utilizing social media, email, postcards with QR codes and URLs, and a phone number. There were 20,777 postcards mailed to city residents. This outreach generated 1,815 valid responses.

NAVAL AIR TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTER SAILOR RECOGNIZED WITH 2026 PENSACOLAAREA MARGARET FLOWERS OUTSTANDING MILITARY VOLUNTEER AWARD Air Traffic Controller (AW/SW) 1st Class Shakila Duff received the 2026 Pensacolaarea Margaret Flowers Outstanding Military Volunteer Award during the annual Pensacola Navy League’s Military Recognition Day June 12 at the Pensacola Yacht Club. Duff, stationed at the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), devoted more than 150 hours to various volunteer initiatives in the Pensacola area. Pensacola Navy League Board of Directors member Rear Adm. (Ret.) Don Quinn presented the award to Duff and recognized nominees from other Pensacola-area commands. Duff was selected for her extensive dedication to community service and leadership in volunteerism. Duff devoted more than 150 hours to various volunteer initiatives in the Pensacola area. Her service included providing operations support to the Health and Hope Clinic and the orchestration of the Health and Hope Gala. Duff also assembled and distributed assistance packages to the homeless and elderly, and played a key role in the local Egg Fest charity event. The Pensacola Navy League’s Military Recognition Day brought together military

personnel, local officials and community leaders to honor service members’ contributions. The event included speeches and proclamations from Escambia and Santa Rosa county representatives, who highlighted the importance of military volunteerism. Named for longtime Navy civil servant Margaret Flowers, the award recognizes service members who embody exceptional community service. NATTC provides instruction to Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel in maintaining, repairing, and operating naval aviation aircraft and weapons systems. Naval Air Station Pensacola, known as the "Cradle of Naval Aviation," supports operational and training missions for several tenant commands, including Naval Air Technical Training Center, Naval Aviation Schools Command and Center for Technical Training. The installation also hosts Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 and Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23 and serves at the headquarters for Naval Education and Training Command. In addition to an active runway, the installation maintains a deepwater port supporting operations for the United States Coast Guard.

PETER HAUPT SELECTED AS JUNE 2026 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Escambia County is pleased to recognize Peter Haupt, IT Business Analyst in the Information Technology Department, as the June 2026 Employee of the Month. Haupt’s selection will be recognized with a proclamation at the June 17 Board of County Commissioners meeting. In his role as an IT Business Analyst, Haupt provides technical and operational support for numerous county departments, including Animal Welfare, County Administration, the County Attorney’s Office, Human Resources, and Purchasing and more. He plays a critical role in supporting Board of County Commissioners meetings, ensuring all technological operations run seamlessly and efficiently. Since joining Escambia County’s IT Department in August 2020, Haupt has successfully managed and contributed to numerous major IT projects and software implementations that have made a positive impact countywide. He takes initiative in coordinating project tasks, communicating with vendors and county departments to ensure projects are completed efficiently and effectively. Throughout his time in the IT Department, Haupt has fostered strong relationships with county staff, vendors and outside agencies to ensure new programs and procedures align with Escambia County’s operational goals and security requirements. “Peter is a core member our IT team, consistently demonstrating exceptional dedi-

cation and professionalism,” Chief Information Officer John Erar said. “His ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and end users has made him an invaluable resource to both IT staff and county departments. It’s an investment in both our history and our environment.” The area holds significant historical importance. A 2002 archaeological investigation by the University of West Florida identified Native American village sites, cemeteries and artifacts within Floridatown Park that were vulnerable to coastal erosion. The area is also connected to Florida’s early history, as the Old Spanish Trail once passed through Floridatown. The total project cost was just over $1 million and was funded through a combination of state grants totaling over $900,000 through the Resilient Florida Planning grant, the FDEP Coastal Resiliency Implementation grant, the Coastal Resiliency grant and a $101,000 county funding match.
