PRIDE FOR ALL

Pensacola has a sense of community that shines through in the way our neighbors gather to support one another.

As we welcome Pride month, Pensacola embraces this spirit with a celebration that honors the LGBTQIA2S+ community, fostering awareness, acceptance and joy.

PensaPride is a sober, all-ages Pride festival dedicated to celebrating and uplifting LGBTQIA2S+ communities through art, culture, education and connection in a safe and inclusive environment.

This year, PensaPride will host its sixth annual Pride celebration on Saturday, June 13 from 10 am to 6 pm at the Pensacola Interstate Fair Expo Hall at 6655 Mobile Highway.

PensaPride is dedicated to strengthening the Pensacola LGBTQIA2S+ community while supporting local families and small businesses. Their mission is to create positive social impact by normalizing inclusion for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, especially those at the intersections of race, gender and disability.

“What inspired us to organize PensaPride was that we saw a real need in Pensacola for a sober, safe space that uplifts artists, performers and the community,” PensaPride Event Organizer Marri Salt said. “I was already hosting the Pensacola Arts Market at a small café, creating a space where people could feel comfortable, connect and relax.”

The 2026 theme, Summerween, blends seasonal creative expression with Pride celebration, encouraging costumes, performance and artistic participation while emphasizing visibility, authenticity and community care. PensaPride has expanded into its most substantial event yet, featuring programming across two indoor buildings and a large lineup of artists, vendors and community organizations and nonprofits.

The event will include more than 100 LGBTQIA2S+ artists, makers, small businesses and community groups, along with two live perfor-

mance stages featuring presentations hosted by 309 Punk Project. Additional features include a community bookstore, resource spaces, free family-friendly arts and crafts activities and an outdoor food court with more than a dozen food trucks.

To get an idea of treats you can enjoy, food court vendors will include: All About Boba, The Dirty Dragon Inn, CB Coffee & Tea, Jay’s Italian Ice, Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy, Mini Pancake Mayhem, Waffle Boutique, Pretty Baked in Pensacola, The Rican Vegan, Sneaky Tiki, Popcorn King, Second Wind Beverages & Snacks LLC, Ejelyn’s Kitchen, Curry in a Hurry, 3-D Eats & Tea Pensacola, Tikitail Tiki Bar (mocktails and tiki-inspired drinks), That Matcha Girl and Kneady’s Bakery.

Although there is an extensive list of vendors who also support the event, you can expect to see names such as: Dead Hot portrait pop-up, Studio Liv, Moonlit Mushroom, Fabled Bee, Just Nerdy Designs, Comics Ink! and many more.

Performers are selected through an open call, inviting local talent to apply so the festival can showcase a wide range of voices from our community. Entertainment is coordinated by DJ Brody Parker, who generously volunteers his time to organize the main stage performances and help bring the overall show together.

“Our hope is that PensaPride gives you exactly what you need in the moment — whether that’s community connection, a sweet treat, a live performance, or the chance to make art with a friend,” Salt said. “Maybe you usually keep to yourself, and this festival gently invites you out of your comfort zone to be surrounded by kindred spirits in a welcoming, highenergy space.”

In Building 7, there will be a community stage in partnership with the 309 Punk Project. The organization has been a valuable partner over the years, curating performances and creating space for even more artists to be seen and heard.

“We’ve had a lot of support from performers throughout the years,” Salt

said. “Performers have been an integral part of us growing into this beautiful thing we are for the community.”

PensaPride is intentional about who they showcase and uplift. When curating vendors, performers and participants, Salt often asks people why they want to be part of PensaPride. While there is not a wrong answer, the goal is to ensure the people who are part of the festival genuinely care about the community and showing up for one another.

The event began in 2021 when a few members from Stride approached Salt about hosting a Pride festival. With just a few months of planning, a handful of volunteers and help from Salt’s sister, the festival took shape and became something even bigger than Salt had imagined.

“Our first PensaPride took place in a city park,” Salt said. “We truly had no idea how many people would show up but the community came out in full support, ready to celebrate together. It showed us just how much this kind of space was needed.”

Each year, PensaPride continues to grow not just in size but in the experience it offers. Over the years it has expanded into additional buildings, moved onto private property to create a more secure and comfortable environment, and added private security to prioritize safety for everyone attending.

Part of creating a secure and welcoming space for PensaPride means prioritizing safety and accessibility for all attendees. The event will include on-site private security, two EMTs and water provided by the ECUA Quench Buggy located outdoors near the food truck area.

Following its mission of inclusion, PensaPride aims to make space for BIPOC, AFAB, trans and queer artists, allies and friends, and to ensure a wide range of people feel represented and included throughout the festival. This is all while being mindful of folks with disabilities, and Salt is actively trying each year to make PensaPride more accessible for everyone.

As the festival has grown, so has the support behind it. This is a

true grassroots event that thrives on community involvement, from in-kind sponsorships to partners who help bring it to life. 309 hosts the community stage in Building 7, while Brighter Days Photography captures the festival through photos. Hairy Alex Horne Salon also sponsors the festival each year and offers affordable cuts and trims on site.

PensaPride also owes a great deal of its success to its volunteer board, who all have full-time jobs, are students, artists or run their own businesses, and still give their time and energy to make the event happen. The volunteers contribute their skills in many ways, including graphic design and website support that helps keep everything running.

Although volunteers and sponsors are always welcome and necessary to support the PensaPride cause, anyone can help by spreading the word about the festival as well as telling their tales of PensaPride by sharing pictures and stories on social media.

For additional safety, there will be a clear bag policy that will be enforced. Medical bags and diaper bags are permitted but subject to search upon entry. Free private parking will be available on-site and surrounding the venue.

Taking place rain or shine, general admission is $8 per person while children 10 and under get free admission. Re-entry is permitted with a valid wristband. Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event or you can purchase them online at pensapride.org. Follow @PensaPride on Facebook and Instagram for updates and more information.

“At the end of the day, PensaPride is such a beautiful day filled with joy, connection and people being fully themselves,” Salt said. “We’re proud of our community. We’re proud of you, Pensacola — for showing up, for being yourself, and for choosing joy and visibility even when times can feel scary or hard. I think we really need that joy right now.”■

ESCAMBIA COUNTY DEPLOYS 43

NEW ARTIFICIAL REEFS

Escambia County recently deployed 43 new artificial reefs, providing excellent habitats for marine life and adding even more local reef sites for anglers and divers to explore.

The reefs were deployed by the Escambia County Marine Resources Division and Walter Marine, with 217 concrete modules distributed across the 43 artificial reef locations.

Funding sources for the new artificial reefs included:

• $500,000 from Deepwater Horizon Natural Resource Damage Assessment for 39 sites

• $60,000 from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Artificial Reef Program, funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Sport Fish Restoration Program for three sites

One of the new artificial reefs was privately funded by friends and family of the late Capt. Robert Edward "Eddie" Lively, a

local charter boat captain and lifelong deep sea fisherman who passed away in 2025.

These artificial reefs are constructed as part of an experimental design process, which provides opportunities for scientific research and insight into optimal designs for future artificial reef projects. The artificial reef experimental design process was a collaborative effort by the Escambia County Marine Resources Division, Escambia County Marine Advisory Committee, Santa Rosa County Environmental Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Sea Grant, University of West Florida, and Escambia County high schools' science staff, teachers and students.

The location of the new artificial reefs is 4.5 nautical miles at 110 degrees from Pensacola Pass, with water depths of 45-55 feet.

Coordinates for the new artificial reefs are in the Escambia County Public Artificial Reefs List.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY RECORDS FIRST LOGGERHEAD NESTS ON PENSACOLA BEACH

Escambia County Sea Turtle Patrol volunteers recently recorded five loggerhead nests on Pensacola Beach, marking the first nests of the 2026 season on Pensacola Beach. Four additional loggerhead nests were recently recorded on Perdido Key, bringing the total to nine nests for the season. May and June are the busiest nesting months in Escambia County, so more nests are expected in the coming weeks.

While loggerheads account for 90% of nests laid in Escambia County, three other species of sea turtles nest on Escambia County beaches from May to October, including green, leatherbacks and the rare Kemp’s Ridley. Once laid, the eggs will incubate for around 60 days, after which hatchlings emerge at nighttime and make their way to the water.

It is important to help protect sea turtles when visiting local beaches, as sea turtles of all sizes face many threats. For nesting females, white lights on the beach may deter them from nesting or cause them to abandon a nesting attempt. Furniture, tents and toys left on the beach overnight create obstacles for nesting turtles and can injure or trap them on the beach.

Escambia County would like to remind residents and visitors to avoid disturbing nesting sea turtles on the beach and to stay a respectful distance away. If you encounter a nesting turtle at night, turn off all lights and

retreat a safe distance away. Dead or injured sea turtles should be reported to Escambia County Marine Resources.

Help protect nesting sea turtles and other coastal wildlife this summer by remembering:

• Lights Out: Bright lights can disturb nesting sea turtles and disorient adults and hatchlings on the beach. When visiting the beach after dark, keep cell phones and flashlights off. Instead, use a red flashlight or no light at all. For beachfront homes, turn off exterior lights when not in use and keep blinds and curtains shut after sunset.

• Leave Only Footprints: Help keep the beaches obstacle-free for nesting and hatchling turtles. All personal items, including chairs, tents, umbrellas, toys, and water equipment, must be removed from the beach by sunset each day. Make sure to fill in holes and flatten any sandcastles.

• Share the Beach: Stay out of posted nesting areas and avoid setting up belongings on the edges of marked areas. Avoid disturbing birds resting on the beach; if you see a nesting sea turtle, give it space. Do not handle sea turtle or shorebird eggs and hatchlings. Dogs are only allowed in designated beach dog parks and must always be kept on a leash.

All sea turtle work performed by Escambia County was completed under Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Marine Turtle Permits #032 and #202.

AMERICAN MAGIC NAMED GLOBAL PERFORMANCE PARTNER OF ROCKWOOL RACING DENMARK SAILGP TEAM

ROCKWOOL Racing has confirmed American Magic as the Danish team’s first Global Performance Partner, with an expanded commitment signalling the next phase in the strategic relationship between the two organizations.

The announcement, made ahead of the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix on 30-31 May, reflects the continued evolution of American Magic from an elite sailing team into a global high-performance sports and technology platform, while reinforcing ROCKWOOL Racing’s long-term commercial ambitions within SailGP.

Under the collaboration, American Magic will receive a range of integrated commercial rights, including branding on the Danish team’s F50, the first of which will be unveiled in New York this weekend.

“Formalizing American Magic’s role with ROCKWOOL Racing is a natural next step, reflecting both our long-term commitment to the team and our ambition to continue building a world-class property with international relevance,” said Tyson Lamond, CEO of American Magic Services.

Lamond continued: “American Magic has always represented something much broader than a sailing team, even if our sailing campaigns have traditionally been some of the most visible parts of the brand.

“This new partnership reflects both our confidence in SailGP’s long-term vision, and our ambition to help shape the future of highperformance sailing on a global stage.”

Through its Pensacola, Florida-based High Performance Center, American Magic operates SailGP’s first long-term North American training base and continues to expand its role across athlete development, technical innovation, composite manufacturing and strategic collaboration with organizations including US Sailing and America One Racing.

The partnership also reflects the continued commercial development of ROCKWOOL Racing, combining Danish sporting identity with American Magic’s technical expertise and infrastructure to further strengthen the team’s long-term partner proposition.

Since 2019, ROCKWOOL Group has served as the founding Title Partner to the team, a commitment recently renewed to 2032, marking the longest standing team title partnership in SailGP.

“As a team we're incredibly pleased to welcome American Magic onboard as our Global Performance Partner,” said Dan Ritchie, Chief Commercial Officer at ROCKWOOL Racing.

“This is a meaningful step for us as American Magic brings world-class sailing expertise, technical infrastructure and a performance mindset that strengthens what we are building on and off the water.

“For ROCKWOOL Racing, this partnership reinforces the direction we want to take commercially: a Danish team with international ambition, backed by great partners who can help us grow the platform, tell stronger stories and compete at the highest level.”

BEETLEJUICE THE MUSICAL

It’s showtime! Although he earned his stripes on Broadway the ghost-with-themost is coming to Pensacola Saenger Theatre on June 16. Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, this hilarious musical tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, Beetlejuice is screamingly good fun. And, under its uproarious surface, it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love and making the most of every Day-O. The show runs 2 hours and 45 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission and is recommended for ages 13 and older. The show features strong language and a lot of the crazy, inappropriate stuff you would expect from a deranged demon.

SPORTS CARD & COLLECTIBLES SHOW

Come out and browse iconic sports cards and collectibles from vendors across the Gulf Coast at Rest and Relax Inn from June 12 to 13. The whole family is invited, as the event promises to have cards that appeal to every age. There is something for every budget as well: from Professionally Graded Sports cards and Pokémon cards to vintage and newly released packs, boxes and factory sets, down to heavily discounted items for only $1. Looking for that special baseball card, comic book, action figure, video game, beanie baby or toy that “mom threw out?” There is a good chance you may find it at this show. Admission is $2 and grants you a choice from one item from the gift table plus an entry with a chance to win our next door prize drawing.

CITY OF PENSACOLA HOMELESS PROGRAMS PROGRESS

Three projects launched by the City of Pensacola to combat homelessness are making progress by utilizing innovative community partnerships, grant funding and other outlets to address the issue on multiple fronts: Community response specialists, Children’s Home Society’s Hand Up for Youth grant and Re-Entry Alliance Pensacola pallet shelters.

PPD Community Response Specialists

Finding a mom with five young children a hotel room for the night so she and her children are out of the elements.

Connecting a young adult to substance abuse and mental health counseling to help them on a path to recovery.

Connecting a senior to an independent living facility or a veteran to service just for them.

That is the work that the Pensacola Police Department’s Community Response Specialists do every day since the program began in 2023. Specialist Brittany Harris works directly with people who are homeless to meet them where they are, help them access services if they desire, and to get them into safer, more stable living situations.

Since the program began in 2023 through April of 2026, the CRS program has:

• Had 1,685 interactions with homeless people.

• Placed 93 people in shelter or housing.

• Referred another 242 people to shelter or housing.

• Had 279 people refuse services.

• Provided hot/cold weather gear.

• Worked to reconnect people to family, substance abuse treatment facilities, and work programs.

"Solving homelessness is not something any City can do alone," Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said. "Our partnerships in all of these efforts reflect our commitment to exploring diverse solutions to this complex problem. It also reflects the reality that partnerships across public and private sectors are the best chance we have to make a real and meaningful difference in an issue that does not have one easy answer.”

Specialists often act as the bridge between people who are unhoused and the community resources that exist to help.

In the first quarter of this year alone, Harris has helped coordinate placement, transportation and travel support for someone relocating to be closer to family, coordinated transportation for a domestic violence survivor and her child to shelter and coordinated with a community partner to get repairs made to an RV that a mother and child are using as their primary residence.

“Our community partners play a vital role in connecting people to housing, employment, mental health, substance abuse treatment, family reunification, and other essential services,” Harris says. “We couldn’t do this work or serve our community effectively without them.”

The CRS team works with community partners including Opening Doors, Family Promise, REAP, 90 Works, EComfort (EPPS Christian Center), Catholic Charities, Next Steps, Overflow, Ministry Village, Bright Bridge, Waterfront Rescue Mission, United Ministries, Loaves & Fishes, Escambia County Project Reconnect and others.

CHS Hand Up for Youth Grant

The City of Pensacola made a $100,000 investment in the Children’s Home Society’s Hand Up for Youth program, and the dividends are paying out.

Hand Up for Youth program began in December of 2024 and is a complement to the CHS’ Transitional Living Program, which helps homeless youth ages 18-23 get on a

path to self-sufficiency. The City’s grant has been used to provide rental assistance of up to $1,000 per month per person for six months. That financial aid gives young people a hand up to launch themselves into self-sufficiency.

Young people in the program commit to 18 months of case management and transition planning to start them on a path at work or in school based on strategic goals they have set with their case manager.

So far, 21 young people have received rental assistance through Hand Up for Youth. Many of them are primary caretakers for siblings or their own children, all of whom now have stable housing.

CHS Executive Director Leah Harrison said $60,000 of the grant has been spent, with the balance expected to be used by Nov. 1.

"Of the young people we served last year, the situations that led them to homelessness vary, but the City grant directly responds to two of the largest challenges they face: access to safe, stable housing and a path to independence,” Harrison said. “This grant has given them safe housing while they work toward securing employment and saving for their own apartments."

“When we wrote the grant, we thought we could reach 15 young people,” Harrison said. “We are thrilled that we have already exceeded that expectation, and because many of our youths are caregivers to younger siblings or their own children, the circle of impact is even wider.”

The Program also focuses on recruiting host families for homeless teens ages 16-17 because they are too young for the TLP program. With the program's wraparound case management, youth can continue their education and gain stability while benefiting from mentorship and support in a host family.

Reap Pallet Shelters

The City of Pensacola and Re-Entry Alliance Pensacola (REAP) have expanded a pallet shelter initiative from 14 initial units to 27 total shelters, increasing immediate shelter capacity for individuals experiencing homelessness in Pensacola.

The initiative began with the city’s purchase of 14 pallet shelters using American Rescue Plan Act funding. As REAP advanced site planning and worked through installation and operational layout, it became clear the site could support additional capacity. Working together, the city and REAP expanded the effort, with the city purchasing 13 additional shelters to bring the total to 27 units.

“Addressing homelessness takes more than funding. It takes partnership,” said Associate City Administrator Cliff Collins. “The city and REAP worked together to grow this effort from 14 shelters to 27 because both stayed focused on the mission and on the people this initiative is meant to serve.”

The city set aside $1,011,000 in ARPA funds for individuals experiencing homelessness and others disproportionately impacted by the economic hardships of the COVID19 pandemic. That funding has supported the purchase of pallet shelters and related resources, while REAP has helped bring the site into operation and prepare for resident support through wrap-around services aimed at stability and transition.

The expansion reflects a partnershipdriven approach: the city providing public investment and support and REAP helping translate that investment into increased capacity and on-site service delivery. Together, the two organizations have worked to create a more immediate and practical response to homelessness in the community.

COX EMPLOYEES AWARD $60,000 TO GULF COAST NONPROFITS

Cox Communications employees have awarded a total of $60,000 in grants to six local nonprofits, through Cox Charities Community Investment Grants. The program provides $10,000 employee funded grants to support programs benefiting local residents. Nonprofits submitted applications earlier this year, and Cox employees voted on the winning organizations. This year’s recipients of the Cox Charities Community Investment Grants are:

• A Bed 4 Me Foundation, Inc. – With a $10,000 Cox Charities grant, the organization will provide safe, comfortable beds to 76 children in Okaloosa and Walton counties, helping improve health, well-being, and their ability to succeed at home and in school.

• Children in Crisis, Inc. – Supported by a $10,000 Cox Charities grant, the organization will enhance academic outcomes for 60–75 children in out-ofhome care through an immersive eightweek STEAM summer program featuring hands-on, project-based learning with LEGO Education kits.

Wilson Biophilia Center by upgrading technology and outdoor learning spaces, expanding access for underserved communities and deepening STEM engagement for more than 6,500 annual students and visitors.

• Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation – With a $10,000 Cox Charities grant, the foundation will provide hands-on environmental education for approximately 1,000 elementary students through a watershed stewardship program that

builds STEM skills and fosters conservation awareness.

“As the Executive Director of the Okaloosa Public School Foundation, I have the privilege of serving our school district while working alongside outstanding community partners. People travel from all over the United States because Okaloosa County is geographically blessed with abundant natural resources.” said John Spolski, Okaloosa County School District Assistant Superintendent and executive director of the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation. “Thanks to this grant and Cox Communications’ support, our students will be immersed in hands-on learning through field-like experiences. I would also like to extend a thank you to the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance, an amazing group that continues to support our teachers. These partnerships and grants are increasing access to meaningful enrichment opportunities for our Okaloosa students!” Cox Charities, a charitable initiative of Cox Communications, is fully funded by Cox employees and business partners. The funds raised are invested annually as Cox Charities Community Investment Grants to organizations that align with our focus areas of youth innovation with programs focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM); conservation and sustainability initiatives; and equal opportunity.

“Cox Charities’ generous investment in Children in Crisis’ Neighborhood Summer STEAM Initiative will create transformative educational opportunities for 60–75 at-risk children in out-of-home care across the Gulf Coast”, said Kevin Maloney, president and CEO of Children in Crisis. “Through hands-on LEGO Education STEAM experiences, this support will help bridge academic gaps, inspire creativity, and equip vulnerable youth with critical science, technology, engineering, arts, and math skills that extend far beyond the summer months. Cox Charities is not only investing in education; it is also helping empower at-risk children with confidence, innovation, and brighter futures through opportunities designed to help them thrive.”

A total of $600,000 is being awarded to 56 grant recipients throughout Cox’s East Region.

“Giving back isn’t just something we do at Cox, it defines who we are. From funding local nonprofit grants to volunteering our time, we show up with heart, purpose and a true commitment to the Gulf Coast community,” said David Deliman, market vice president of Cox Gulf Coast. “I’m incredibly proud of the difference our team continues to make.”

PENSACOLA CHILDREN’S CHORUS RETURNS TO CARNEGIE HALL FOR PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL YOUTH CHORUS SERIES

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus (PCC) will return to Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 15, 2026, at the invitation of Manhattan Concert Productions, marking another milestone for one of Northwest Florida’s premier arts organizations.

The invitation places PCC among distinguished youth choirs from across the nation selected to perform on one of the world’s most celebrated stages. The day will include both an afternoon recital and an evening appearance as part of the National Youth Chorus Series at Carnegie Hall.

“For our singers, performing at Carnegie Hall represents the culmination of years of dedication, artistry and hard work,” Alex Gartner, PCC’s Artistic & Executive Director, said. “Returning to this iconic stage is both an incredible honor and a testament to the excellence our young musicians achieve every day here in Pensacola.”

A highlight of the Carnegie Hall performances will be the world premiere of The Heart’s Remedy, an original composition by Gartner written specifically for PCC’s Carnegie Hall residency. The work explores the universal emotions of loss, pain and grief through the poetry of Jan Richardson. The text reflects the complex relationship between memory and reality while offering a path toward healing. Ultimately, the piece affirms a powerful truth: the heart’s sole remedy for breaking is to love still.

Before departing for New York City, PCC will present a special Carnegie Hall Sendoff Performance on Thursday, June 11, at 6:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Pensacola, located at 500 N. Palafox Street. The concert is free and open to the public, and will feature selections from the Carnegie

Hall repertoire, providing the community an opportunity to celebrate and support the singers before their journey.

Beyond the stage, the five-day residency offers the 57 participating singers an immersive cultural experience in the heart of New York City. Participants will attend two Broadway musicals, take in panoramic views of the city skyline from the Rockefeller Center, enjoy evening views of the Statue of Liberty and explore some of the nation’s most iconic landmarks.

These experiences complement the artistic mission of the tour, exposing young performers to world-class arts, culture and history while creating lifelong memories alongside their fellow singers. As the core ensemble for the National Youth Chorus, PCC singers will not only perform on one of the world’s most celebrated stages, but also serve as ambassadors for Pensacola and Northwest Florida throughout their time in New York City.

Supporters traveling to New York or wishing to connect with fellow PCC families and alumni are also invited to attend a special reception in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City on Sunday, June 14. The reception will bring together current families, alumni, donors and friends of the organization to celebrate PCC’s return to Carnegie Hall and the impact of music education in Northwest Florida.

The Carnegie Hall invitation continues PCC’s tradition of national recognition and artistic excellence. Through performances, touring opportunities and innovative music education programs, PCC serves hundreds of young people annually while representing the Gulf Coast region on national and international stages.

UWF

University of West Florida Director of International Affairs Randolph Scott has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright U.S.-France International Education Administrators Award for 2026-2027. The highly competitive program is a fully funded, two-week seminar designed for senior U.S. higher education professionals working in international education and institutional global engagement.

From Oct. 3-15, Scott will participate in meetings with higher education leaders, government officials and policy experts while visiting universities, research facilities and educational institutions throughout France. The program aims to strengthen international collaboration, expand institutional partnerships and foster cross-cultural understanding between the United States and France.

As Director of International Affairs at UWF, Scott has spent more than 20 years working in international education and helping prepare students to thrive in an interconnected world. His professional experience includes living and working abroad in both Japan and France; service on the boards of the Florida Association of International Educators, Study Florida and Gulf Coast Diplomacy; and participation in the NAFSA Trainer Corps, the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and Leadership Pensacola.

“Early in my career, I lived and worked in Japan and then in France as part of the Teaching Assistant Program in France,” Scott said. “Teaching English and working alongside French educators were transformative experiences that shaped my worldview and ultimately set me on a path in international education. Through this seminar, I hope to translate personal history and professional expertise into durable institutional collab -

workforce development and career advancement is a tremendous opportunity for our young people,” he said. “I’m grateful for their investment in our community and in the lives of these students.”

Darryl Seow, Senior Vice President and Head of Airframe Services at ST Engineering, said that the scholarships are a way for the company to give back to the community while supporting students seeking a career in aviation.

“The Pensacola Mayor’s Scholarship is part of a broader commitment ST Engineering has made to the Pensacola area, and we are proud to be able to support these outstanding students in their future educational endeavors. These scholarships are just one of the many ways that we hope to create educational opportunities for the workforce of tomorrow. Congratulations to these outstanding students,” said Seow.

The Mayor’s Scholarship is funded each year by ST Engineering to support graduating seniors planning to pursue a career in aviation. Since its inception in 2019, ST Engineering has donated more than $100,000 in scholarships to local students.

oration, advancing shared academic goals between our two countries.”

Scott said participation in the seminar will directly support UWF’s international education goals by helping establish new exchange opportunities and research collaborations with French institutions.

UWF currently maintains partnerships with several French institutions, including EM Strasbourg Business School, ESSCA School of Management and the Mission Interuniversitaire de Coordination des Échanges Franco-Américains. Scott hopes the experience will help expand opportunities for UWF students and faculty beyond existing partnerships and create new collaborations in research, faculty exchange and study abroad programming.

Claire Holderman, coordinator of the John W. Merting Family Office of National Fellowships, said Scott’s selection highlights the importance of international engagement opportunities for higher education professionals.

“Randolph’s selection for this award is significant because these prestigious fellowships offer higher education administrators unique professional development opportunities to foster long-term connections that enrich their campuses, careers and communities,” Holderman said. “It is among the hundreds of opportunities offered through the Fulbright Scholars Program.”

The John W. Merting Family Office of National Fellowships supports faculty, staff and students pursuing nationally competitive scholarship and fellowship opportunities, including Fulbright programs. Applications for Fulbright opportunities opened in February and are due Sept. 15, 2026. Faculty and staff interested in learning more are encouraged to contact Holderman for additional information.

HALF A CENTURY OF KEEPING

KMS Communications, a leading communications company providing stateof-the-art telephone and communications systems, network and data services, security camera systems and Managed IT Services, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in business.

In 1976, when KMS Communications (then KMS Business Products) was founded by Bill and Shirley Bulla, Gerald Ford was the United States president. A gallon of gasoline cost 60 cents; houses sold for approximately $45,000. And a popular business tool of the day was the Dictaphone.

Much has changed for the Bulla family and KMS since those early days.

From the Dictaphone to VOiP and Managed IT Services

When the business first opened, the primary product and service offered was the business Dictaphone. KMS customers included medical, legal and insurance businesses, schools and government agencies.

Over the next five decades, KMS would guide Gulf Coast organizations and beyond through the digital revolution — from early business telephone systems to today’s fully integrated voice, data, security, and managed IT environments.

The company changed its name in the late 1980s to KMS Communications to better reflect its growing suite of services and its commitment to state-of-the-art communications systems for businesses.

Today, partnering with innovative manufacturers, KMS delivers a suite of services to businesses including:

• State-of-the-art telecommunications systems for business needs - including advanced hosted voice telephone systems, and on-site server-based systems – from dial tone to Internet services

• Data and network services; Internet connectivity and infrastructure network solutions

• Video and access control, hosted and serverbased security camera installation, and advanced access control systems for stateof-the-art surveillance solutions

• Managed IT Network and cybersecurity services: network management, cloud computing and data backup

Fifty years after its launch, the company remains family owned and continues to be an integral part of the Gulf Coast business community. While many of its clients are in the Gulf Coast area, the company serves businesses across the country.

Three generations of family carry the business forward

Family members include Bill Bulla, the founder. Three sons – Kevin, Mike and Steve – have held key roles in the organization over the years. Steve fills the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Mike worked as a technical

engineer; and Kevin is VP/business development. A third-generation family member, Will (Bill Bulla’s grandson) is a systems installer.

Reflecting on changes over the decades, Kevin Bulla, Vice President/Business Development, noted, “Particularly in today’s hybrid work environment, which was greatly accelerated by how Covid changed the business and office environment, VOiP and other business phone enhancements have been especially popular.” He added,” Our extensive industry experience coupled with our strong partnerships with leading equipment providers including Polycom, Cisco, Dell, HP and Honeywell, enables us to provide effective solutions at competitive pricing.” Protecting customer networks with Managed IT Services

Together with telephone and communications is IT and managing the networks of clients-- protecting their data against cyberattack, which has become a big part of the KMS offerings. “People pay considerable attention to the need for serious, comprehensive IT protection,” said Bill Bulla, founder, adding, “Protection of data is critical in today’s business climate, with the threats to businesses from cybercriminals.” What will the future hold?

The company plans to continue its clientforward focus and is always evaluating additional ways to serve its business clients. “Our half century in business has taught us a great deal,” said Bill Bulla. “As our company has evolved, we approach each day believing that we are old enough to know, but still young enough to grow. We continue in our mission to bring our customers tomorrow’s products today.”

Kevin Bulla added, “We are grateful for all the support we have received over the years from our loyal clients, our employees, the community, and of course family and friends. We would not be where we are today without all of them. As we celebrate this important business milestone, our message is a simple one: thank you, and the best is yet to come!” About KMS Communications

KMS is a full-service communications company, serving the needs of Gulf Coast businesses and beyond. Located at 3010 E. Cervantes St., Pensacola, FL, KMS is a family-owned business with three generations of the Bulla family working within the company. Founded in 1976 by Bill Bulla, the company began as a provider of Dictaphone services and over five decades has expanded to include state-of-the-art telephone and communications systems, security cameras, access control and Managed IT Network services. With clients across a wide range of industries, KMS Communications serves the needs of businesses both along the Gulf Coast and beyond.
