President’s Message Dear Members, What a Parade of Homes it was. This year’s Parade was the busiest we have ever had— more foot traffic than we have ever seen and a great showing across the board. As we expected, our 2026 Dream Home earned wonderful reviews from everyone who walked through it. A home like that does not come together without a tremendous team effort: Westerheim Homes did a fantastic job building it, the donations from our partners were enormous to making it possible, and our committee members were absolutely invaluable to its success. Thank you to every one of them.

And to all of our Parade of Homes award winners: there are far too many of you to list here, but you know who you are. The homes you entered showcased the very best of what our members build, and the entire HBA family is excited and proud of you and your companies. Congratulations on outstanding work.
With the Parade behind us, we are already gearing up for a busy fall—so get involved where you can. We have our golf tournament coming up, a Meet the Builder event, and several builder-focused trainings in the works. Keep an eye out for the details as they come, and make it a point to plug in where it fits. These events are where relationships are built and where our association does some of its best work.

Speaking of that work, I want to share a win that shows what our membership can accomplish when we stay engaged. ECUA has agreed to meet with us periodically going forward—a real step toward better coordination between our industry and one of the partners we rely on every day. My many thanks to Austin Tenpenny, who has worked hard to get these meetings set up so we can keep meaningful, ongoing conversations going. This is your membership at work, and it matters. Finally, some news I am especially proud to share. This fall, the FHBA will hold its annual Leadership Conference on Pensacola Beach—the first time in many, many years it has been held right here in our own backyard. What makes it even more meaningful is who will be front and center: Alton Lister, one of our own, is becoming President of the FHBA, and this conference will mark his installation into that role. This is Alton’s moment, and it is a well-earned one. Our job now is simple: get behind him. Alton will represent us well at the state level, and the best thing his home association can do is stay fully engaged and give him our complete support as he steps into this role. Show up for the conference, show up for him, and let’s help one of our own make a real difference for our industry across Florida. The momentum is real—let’s get behind Alton and carry it forward together.

Feature Story Celebrating the 2026 Parade of Homes:
A Night to Celebrate The 2026 Parade of Homes officially kicked off with a packed house as more than 170 HBA members, builders, sponsors, community leaders and guests came together to celebrate another great year of the Parade. This year’s Parade showcased 39 homes from 17 builders, including the 2026 Dream Home, throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The homes represented just how diverse our local building industry has become, ranging from townhomes and starter homes to custom luxury properties. We were also excited to welcome several new faces to this year’s Parade. Timberland Homes and Lakewood Custom Homes joined the HBA builder community, while Parker Homes and PropWic participated in the Parade of Homes for the first time.
PropWic also brought something completely new to the 2026 Parade — our first remodel entry. Their historic East Hill home offered visitors a look at how an older property can be thoughtfully restored while still meeting the needs of modern homeowners. Throughout the renovation, special attention was given to preserving the character of the original home, including restoring original lighting and other details whenever possible. The goal was to remain true to the home’s time period while thoughtfully incorporating the comforts and conveniences expected in a modern home.

Feature Story The Kick-Off Party gave us the opportunity to recognize all of the builders who made the Parade possible, thank our sponsors and volunteers, and announce the 2026 Parade of Homes award winners. We were also honored to welcome Congressman Jimmy Patronis, who joined us for the evening and took a few minutes to speak to our members and guests. With more than 170 people in attendance, it was a great way to bring our building community together and officially kick off Parade weekend.

Celebrating the Best of the Parade Before the public stepped inside this year’s Parade homes, our panel of industry professionals spent time touring and scoring the entries. Best in Class awards recognized the highest-scoring homes within their respective price categories, while specialty awards highlighted standout kitchens, floor plans, curb appeal, outdoor living and design. There was plenty to celebrate across this year’s field. FD Builds had an especially strong showing, earning three Best in Class awards along with honors for Outstanding Kitchen, Outstanding Floor Plan and Outstanding Curb Appeal. PropWic’s first Parade entry earned Best in Class for Downtown Living as well as the Distinctive Design Award, recognizing the thoughtful restoration of the historic home. FD Builds Team
Parker Homes and Timberland Homes Builders both earned Best in Class awards in their first Parade appearances, while longtime Parade participants including Thomas Homes, Adams Homes and Acorn Fine Homes also took home Best in Class honors. Specialty awards went to KW Custom Homes for Outstanding Floor Plan over 2,000 square feet and Candor Construction for Smart Design. One home ultimately rose to the very top. Owens Custom Homes’ 9325 Naturewalk Drive earned Outstanding Curb Appeal and Outstanding Outdoor Living before receiving the evening’s highest honor. With an incredible 99.9 out of 100 points, the home earned the highest composite score of every home judged and was named the 2026 Parade of Homes Best in Show.

Feature Story A New Tradition: The Key Fundraiser This year’s Kick-Off Party also introduced a brand-new fundraiser benefiting the HBA Scholarship Program. Guests purchased keys for a chance to unlock a tiny home and win a $1,000 cash prize. The response exceeded our expectations, with 140 keys sold during the fundraiser’s first year. A special thank you goes to FD Builds, who built and donated the tiny home that made the fundraiser possible. Throughout the evening, guests tried their luck until one key finally opened the door. Congratulations to Marty Rich with University Lending, who held the winning key and took home the $1,000 prize!
While the Key fundraiser added a little fun and friendly competition to the Kick-Off Party, its purpose goes much further. Proceeds benefit the HBA Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to students pursuing education in construction management and the skilled trades. Supporting the next generation of our industry continues to be an important focus for the HBA. This year, we received more than 25 scholarship applications, demonstrating both the interest in these career paths and the importance of continuing to create opportunities for students entering the construction industry. Two students were selected to receive scholarships in 2026, with funds going directly toward their education. Our industry depends on the next generation of builders, tradespeople and construction professionals. Through the scholarship program, the HBA and our members have an opportunity to invest directly in students who have chosen to pursue those careers and help build the workforce our industry will need in the years ahead. Thanks to the incredible support from our members, the first Key fundraiser was a huge success. With 140 keys sold, we are excited to make it an annual Parade of Homes tradition — bringing a little extra excitement to the Kick-Off Party while raising funds for a program that directly supports the future of our industry. We look forward to seeing who holds the winning key next year!

HBAWF News Building More Than Homes: HBA Board Members Join Roc Solid for a Special Build Our members are no strangers to building, but every once in a while, they get the opportunity to build something that means a little more.
In August, members of the HBA Board of Directors partnered with Roc Solid Foundation to build a backyard playset for a local 4-year-old undergoing cancer treatment. Our builder and associate board members came together for the morning, putting their skills to work to create something every child deserves—the opportunity to play. As we share this story in September, it carries even more meaning as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness and supporting children and families facing childhood cancer. For children undergoing cancer treatment, everyday activities can become more complicated. With a vulnerable immune system, a trip to a public playground may bring risks that other families rarely have to consider. Having a playset right outside his own door provides a safer, more controlled environment where he can enjoy time outdoors.
But the playset represents much more than that. It gives him a place to climb, slide, laugh and play with his sister. It gives their family a space to make memories together and, during a time filled with treatments and appointments, gives a 4-year-old another opportunity to simply be a kid.

HBAWF News Before the first piece of the playset could go up, there was work to be done to prepare the backyard. We are especially grateful to aDoor Properties and Xtreme Landscapes & Design for contributing their time and resources to get the ground ready for the build. Their work helped ensure everything was ready when our crew arrived that morning. From there, our board members got to work. What started as boxes of lumber and playground pieces quickly began taking shape as everyone measured, assembled, lifted and worked together. And because taking a morning away from work doesn’t always mean work takes the morning away from you, there were a few phone calls and emails handled between pieces of the playset. If you spot a phone or two in our photos, just know our members were doing double duty—building a playground while keeping their businesses moving!
By the end of the morning, the calls had been answered, the work had gotten done, and most importantly, a brand-new playset stood in the backyard ready for its most important job. We are incredibly grateful to each of our builder and associate board members who made room in their schedules to be there. Our association is fortunate to have members who are willing to contribute not only their professional skills and resources, but their time when there is an opportunity to make a difference.
Projects like this are also a reminder of the bigger impact of the support our HBA receives throughout the year. The funds raised through HBA initiatives, events and projects—including the Dream Home and our affordable housing efforts—help us do more than carry out the day-to-day work of the Association. That support also gives us the ability to invest back into the community we serve, support meaningful causes and say “yes” when opportunities like this one come along.

HBAWF News When our members attend an event, support a fundraiser, donate materials or services, or simply give their time, that support can reach well beyond the HBA office. Sometimes, it ends up in a backyard, giving a 4-year-old and his sister a place to play together. We are proud to support organizations working to make a difference for children and families in our community and even prouder of the builders and associates who continue to show what our industry can accomplish when we come together. We look forward to more opportunities to give back, strengthen our community and use what we have built together as an Association to make a difference in the lives of the people who call Northwest Florida home. During Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage our members to learn more about the work being done locally to support children and families impacted by childhood cancer. As in construction, the Bill Daniel HBA of West Florida sees a Spike as someone that works to keep our association strong. Spikes work on the recruitment and retention of members in addition to keeping members active with the association. Anyone is eligible for Spike status. On Spike credit is awarded for each new member recruited and an additional credit is awarded for that new member’s renewal on or before their anniversary date. If you help to retain a member, you are eligible to receive a half point for each member.
