As a multidisciplinary artist, his professional portfolio includes work with Hatchmark Studio, Perfect Plain Brewing Co., Emerald Republic Brewing Co. and more. Currently, one of his personal projects is a series of paintings titled Kingdoms , inspired by self-discovery and a return to the fine art side of his career, drawing from what he considers the strongest elements of his tastes, experiences and faults, all woven together into a cohesive whole. What originally drew you to creative work?
I think it was just the brightest light for me. Nothing else seemed right for me. It took me a while to figure out what that meant, but it's a very set ideal for me that helps me understand the world. Most understandings of how I want the world to be better have kind of stemmed from creativity and the work I and my fellow artists can put into it.
Your work spans both digital and large-scale physical spaces. How do those different “environments” influence your creativity?
Digital and analog painting have always influenced each other. My practice has become a constant dialogue of the two, how they connect, differ, can destroy and alter themselves to avoid or become the other in their own ways. I like when one gives credit to the other. It's been a huge part of my discovery as an artist to let each other feed into each other through vast and confusing experiments. I love what digital arts have allowed me to do. It's tied to my influences and time that we live in, and feels like a whole new discussion with AI trying to ruin everything we love.
Are there recurring themes throughout your work?
My best friends growing up were my animals, especially ducks. My dog, Phoebe, has been my rock and reason for growing into the caring man that I'm proud of, so there's

a deep tool box of play and symbolism that they allow me to tap into. When I cast a creature as a starring role in my work, it's because they are an avatar for fundamentals vital to me. I love the human figure, I love painting our species, but creatures real or imaginary are definitely a staple of how I can tell stories when words fail me.
What artists have had the biggest influence on your artistic style?
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is a huge hero of mine. His understanding and ability to translate things that I needed help in grasping was a crucial leap in moving me from just an actor of illustration for someone else's ideas to actually putting on canvas what I want and need to say. Things are truer, more raw, better. His creation philosophies helped me understand that I can turn a lot of pain and sadness and overall reality into something that makes me stronger and more empathetic. Other artists like Tom DeLonge, St. Vincent, David Lynch, David Bowie, Bjork… I really learn a lot more about art and life through musicians and their work I think. Maybe it's because we work in different mediums, so that allows for more fruitful translation spaces between their experiences and knowledge into mine. I follow and adore many, many visual artists, but for me, the juiciest knowledge always comes from the musicians.
How do you balance personal artistic expression with client-driven or commissioned work?
I've learned that when a client hires you, they want your work, even if some things clash. Pushing expectations aside, even just a hair, to make something better and more unique with your own voice and knowledge. It's a crucial trust earned over time, even within yourself. Listening to a

client's wishes, most of the time, forces more creativity out of you too, though. Not being so in your own head all the time makes you get off your ass and change things up. It can be good for you to force that balance and find how to blend them together, but the key word here is blend. That doesn't necessarily mean 50/50. It means taking inspiration where you can or have to, and turning it into a spice for extra creativity. It will make things better and everyone wins.

Celebrated each year on June 19, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and marks a defining moment in the nation’s history. The holiday traces back to June 19, 1865, when Union troops led by Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing that enslaved African Americans were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Because news traveled slowly and many slaveholders refused to comply, countless people across the South remained enslaved until that historic day.
What began as “Jubilee Day” celebrations in Texas in 1866 gradually spread across the country, growing into a tradition centered on remembrance, culture and community. Juneteenth was officially recognized as a Texas state holiday in 1980 and became a federal holiday in 2021. More than 150 years later, Juneteenth remains a powerful reminder of freedom hard won and the stories that must continue to be told. Today, Juneteenth celebrations take many forms, bringing people together through music, food, art, education and shared history.
In Pensacola, that tradition lives on through a series of annual events honoring Black freedom, culture and heritage. From festivals and live entertainment to familyfriendly gatherings and cultural celebrations, here is a roundup of Juneteenth events taking place across the city this month.
Hosted by Adoration For A New Beginning Church, the annual Juneteenth UnityFest returns on June 19 from noon to 4 pm for a free community celebration honoring Juneteenth. The event will take place at 920 W. Government St. in Pensacola, and individuals of all ages are invited to come together in a spirit of unity and joy.
Attendees will enjoy live music and entertainment, free food, local vendors, community resources and a special Kid Zone with activities for children. UnityFest celebrates culture, resilience and togetherness while recognizing the importance of Emancipation Day.
There is no cost to attend, and everyone is invited to join the celebration. Whether you're coming with friends or flying solo, UnityFest is the place to be. For the latest updates and event details, follow Adoration For A New Beginning Church on Facebook.

The Watson Family Foundation will present the 5th Annual Juneteenth Festival on June 13 — a powerful celebration of freedom, unity, culture and community. Held at Museum Plaza in downtown Pensacola, this annual event brings together families, friends and neighbors for a fun-filled day of music, food, art and activities for all ages.
Designed as both a celebration and a gathering place, the festival creates space to learn, connect and honor the meaning of Juneteenth. Guests will enjoy live performances, food trucks, local vendors and interactive experiences — including a Family Feud-themed game show — that spotlights Black history and creativity.
The 5th Annual Juneteenth Festival will be held from noon to 6 pm at Museum Plaza, located at 300 S. Tarragona St. in downtown Pensacola. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome. Whether you come for the music, the food or a little friendly competition, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. For updates and event details, visit watsonfamilyfoundation.com and follow @WatsonFamilyFoundation on Facebook.
Gallery Night returns to downtown Pensacola on June 19 from 5 to 9 pm with the theme Journey to Juneteenth, offering an evening centered on reflection, culture and community celebration. Featuring more than 70 art vendors, this monthly block party transforms downtown streets into an open-air arts experience where residents and visitors can explore local galleries, enjoy live entertainment and connect with community organizations while honoring the historical significance of Juneteenth. This month’s themed event will highlight the story and spirit of Juneteenth through art, music and creative expression. Guests can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with visual art displays, live performances and interactive experiences celebrating freedom, heritage and Black history. Admission is free and open to all ages. For more information, visit gallerynightpensacola.org and check out Gallery Night Pensacola on social media.

Hosted by Five Sisters Blues Café in honor of Juneteenth, this special culinary event is a celebration rooted in the rich food traditions of the African diaspora, where Juneteenth meals often highlight dishes tied to heritage, prosperity and community. For 2026, Five Sisters Chef Josh Rich will once again present a special Juneteenth menu available for both lunch and dinner service on Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20, designed to honor African American contributions to American cuisine and the meaning of freedom.
Featured menu offerings include the Uncle Nearest Whiskey Sour made with whiskey, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup and hibiscus, a special appetizer with grilled shrimp and sausage skewers with bell peppers and onions and entree featuring fried mullet served over creamy red beans and rice. The dessert is grilled pound cake topped with fresh berries and whipped cream. This special menu offers a flavorful way to connect with history, culture and food while honoring the true meaning of Juneteenth. For more information and to check out the full Juneteenth menu, visit fivesistersbluescafe.com.

The Pensacola Blue Wahoos will host a special Juneteenth celebration during their home series against the Birmingham Barons at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The annual celebration kicks off on Friday, June 19, with the first pitch at 6:05 pm. Fans will enjoy family-friendly activities, pre-game and in-game tributes, post-game fireworks and a special giveaway. The first 1,000 fans to pass through the stadium gates will receive a complimentary Blue Wahoos straw hat courtesy of Woodlands Medical Specialists.
On Sunday, June 21 at 4:05 pm, the Blue Wahoos will once again honor the Pensacola Seagulls, a notable team in the city’s Negro Southern League baseball history, during “The Nine” Night presented by Cox.
Fans of all ages are invited to join the celebration at Blue Wahoos Stadium, located at 351 W. Cedar St. in downtown Pensacola. For tickets and information on upcoming promotions, visit milb.com/pensacola/tickets or call the box office at (850) 934-8444.

Sometimes a craving hits out of nowhere. Whatever your food mood may be, Pensacola delivers. Across the city, a wave of new restaurants is bringing global flavors close to home, blending international traditions with local flair. From French bistros and Levantine dishes to Indonesian specialities and beyond, Pensacola’s newest spots are sure to satisfy that food craving, stat.

The spirit of true bistro chic is arriving in Pensacola this summer with Renaissance Pensacola, a French-inspired restaurant founded by Paris natives Natasha and Martin Arnt. Rooted in their passion for French culture, cuisine and hospitality, the couple is bringing an authentic Parisian experience to Pensacola this summer. Renaissance specializes in elevated takes on traditional French dishes, served in an atmosphere that captures the elegance of a classic bistro. Renaissance began with a location on 30A, where guests are immersed in refined details like Haussmannian wall moldings, gold mirrors, marble tables, herringbone floors and plush green velvet booths. The air carries notes of rosemary, thyme and toasted baguette while melodies from Serge Gainsbourg and Edith Piaf drift softly in the background. Though there is no formal dress code, guests are encouraged to dress beyond beachwear to match the ambiance. The thoughtfully curated wine list features more than 60 selections from across different regions, ranging from boutique producers to renowned labels with bottles starting at $44. The restaurant offers classic French cuisine like escargots de bourgogne and boeuf bourguignon plus rich caviar. Chickpea House (New location coming soon!)
Chickpea House is where tradition meets flavor, offering fresh yet fast and feelgood Palestinian street food rooted in culture and crafted with care. Built on recipes shaped by heritage, the menu celebrates the essence of Levantine cuisine while embracing a modern, American dining experience. At the heart of the concept is the chickpea: an essential ingredient in Mediterranean cooking and the foundation of the many dishes served from chickpea sandwiches, nuggets and salads to hummus. At Chickpea House, chickpeas are transformed into golden, crisp falafel that honors Palestinian tradition along with a deep connection to the land. While falafel traces its origins to Egypt, where it is made with fava beans, the Palestinian version uses chickpeas, which thrive in Levant soil and reflect both agricultural heritage and cultural identity. Committed to quality, Chickpea House uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients to ensure every plate is both nutritious and flavorful. The mission is simple yet meaningful: to bring the authentic taste of the Levant to the community while preserving the stories behind the food. Although currently located at 4522 Saufley Field Road, a second location is coming soon to 3200 N. Pace Boulevard. For more updates on the new location, follow @chickpeahousecuisine on Instagram or visit chickpeahouse.com.

Of course, at the heart of the menu is satay: perfectly grilled, marinated skewers served with deeply flavorful sauces that reflect the diversity of Indonesia’s regional cuisine. The satay ranges from land to sea, offering a variety of chicken, lamb and beef to tuna, scallop and octopus. There’s also vegetarian options for satay including zucchini, cherry tomatoes and shiitake. Beyond its signature satay, Gourmet Saté House also features dishes like goat curry, soto ayam (shredded chicken, cabbage and vermicelli noodles), as well as bakso meatball soup (meatballs, shredded babbage and vermicelli noodles). The restaurant captures the spirit of Indonesian hospitality, where food is meant to be shared and savored. Whether you’re discovering these flavors for the first time or returning for a familiar favorite, each visit promises to be a tasteful adventure through the culinary landscape of Indonesian cuisine. Opened in March, the name behind Momotaro Ramen & Sushi was inspired by a Japanese folktale. Momotaro tells the story of a boy born from a giant peach who sets out to defeat ogres threatening nearby villages. Armed with courage and kibi dango dumplings that he shares along the way, he gains loyal companions: a dog, monkey and pheasant. The tale celebrates generosity, trust and teamwork, which are all values you'll find at this restaurant. Momotaro brings bold flavor and playful creativity to the table with a menu that blends comforting ramen and a tasty variety of sushi. Bowls of kimchi ramen deliver a rich, tangy heat, while the miso-curry and creamy chicken ramen offers uniquely savory broths. The ramen options continue with seafood bonanza plus sweet and spicy dumplings, providing special ramen dishes you won't find anywhere else. On the sushi side, standouts include the Ninja Turtle and Godzilla rolls with shrimp as the base protein, plus the Chuck Roll (named after the owner of the restaurant) featuring a mix of spicy and fresh tuna topped with seaweed salad and house sauce. Whether you’re craving something warm and soulful or fresh and artfully prepared, Momotaro offers a fusion of tradition and fun. Located at 640 E. The Fish House Craft Beer Festival is back for another round, bringing together tasty brews, a lively crowd and a meaningful cause.
Held each year on the Saturday before Father’s Day, the annual event returns in 2026 for its 12th year bringing together dozens of breweries and beverage makers from across the region.
This year’s festival will take place on Saturday, June 20 from 3 to 6 pm at the Fish House Deck in downtown Pensacola, where guests can sample their way through a selection of craft beverages from local and regional breweries.
As in years past, a portion of the event proceeds will be donated to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Florida, a local nonprofit supporting mentorship programs that empower youth throughout the community.
“Our Craft Beer Festival is such a fun way to give back and reach so many people that might not know the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters,” Great Southern Restaurants Marketing,
Public Relations and Event Coordinator Taylor Dawson said. “Being able to work alongside an organization that invests so much to empower the children in our community, while also being able to showcase the beverage community as a whole, is something we are so incredibly proud to support.”
From local standouts to regional and national names, the festival lineup provides a taste of the regional craft beverage scene. Breweries scheduled to appear include Pensacola Bay Brewery (Pensacola, FL), Perfect Plain Brewing Co. (Pensacola, FL), Props Craft Brewery Company (Fort Walton Beach, FL), Odd Pelican Beer Co. (Grand Rapids, MI), Fairhope Brewing Company (Fairhope, AL) and more.

“Our Craft Beer Festival is such a fun way to give back and reach so many people that might not know the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
“This event is designed to allow the public to taste a large variety of handcrafted beers with an opportunity to sample a number of styles to determine preferences,” Great Southern Beverage Manager Dean Clark said. “Beers from microbreweries, crafts and specialty bottled beers will be available for tasting.”
Beyond the beer, the popular spirits tables will also make a return showcasing a curated lineup of small-production vodkas, bourbons and rums, where guests can explore spirits from a variety of regional and national beverage companies featuring Rollins Distillery, Asesinato Tequila, Bushwacker Spirits, Meili Vodka, St. Augustine Distillery, Bulliet Bourbon, XXI Martini, The Botanist Gin and many more.
This annual event is about more than just great drinks — it’s a chance to highlight the region’s growing beverage community while supporting a nonprofit that makes a lasting impact.
“We love putting on this event because it benefits an amazing cause,” Clark said. “Being able to
showcase and support not only local breweries, but the beverage community as a whole is so important to us.”

While summer is often defined by sunsoaked beach days and lively outdoor adventures, some of the season’s most memorable moments happen indoors surrounded by loved ones and immersed in the magic of cinema. The Summer Classic Movie Series at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre reminds us that some of the best summer experiences occur under a shared roof, with a chance to disconnect from the fast-paced world, share laughs and tears, all while enjoying timeless classic films.
This year, the Summer Classic Movie Series highlights films representing the celebrated partnership between the influential filmmaker Steven Spielberg and prolific American composer John Williams. The series kicks off with a restored version of the 1970s classic Jaws and concludes with the 2010s historical drama Lincoln.
“As a film buff and avid lover of scores, John Williams is the most prolific composer that comes to my mind,” Saenger Theatre Senior Marketing and Sales Manager Kristen Carter said. “His partnership with Steven Spielberg has created some of the most nostalgic music and movies that even non-cinephiles can recognize and feel connected to.”
Keeping with a summer theme, Spielberg is widely credited with creating what we now call the “summer blockbuster,” with Jaws often cited as the first. The film selection also reflects the remarkable range of Spielberg’s works — from the practical effects of Jaws and E.T. and the groundbreaking digital and animatronic innovations of Jurassic Park to the subtlety and character-driven storytelling found in Catch Me If You Can and Lincoln

“I hope that through the films we have chosen, members of the Pensacola community will experience the nostalgic feeling of seeing movies in the theatre in the summer with friends and family, and create new memories today.”
As part of the visual storytelling Spielberg is so widely regarded for, Carter encourages attendees to keep an eye out for “the Spielberg face” – a signature directorial technique where a character is shown in a tight close-up with eyes wide and mouth slightly agape, staring in wordless awe, shock or wonder at something off-screen.
“I hope that through the films we have chosen, members of the Pensacola community will experience the nostalgic feeling of seeing movies in the theatre in the summer with friends and family, and create new memories today,” Carter said. “And for younger generations to have the opportunity to experience a few of the classic films on the big screen that shaped what filmmakers today were inspired by when deciding to become directors and composers themselves.”
The Summer Classic Movie Series began in 2012 and has evolved over the years, expanding from Sunday Hitchcock matinees and strictly black-and-white films to include anniversary screenings and classic comedies. A long-standing tradition of the series is the feature of Lola, the historic Saenger Pipe Organ, featured before each screening.
The pipe organ has long been an important part of the Classic Movie Series, as well as many other film screenings at Saenger Theatre. Over the past three seasons, the Saenger has also experimented with the music featured in its Classic Movie Series presentations. During its Milestone season, the theatre drew directly from each film’s score and soundtrack, creating unique interpretations, such as a lively pipe organ rendition of Bee Gees hits ahead of the screening of Saturday Night Fever.
As per tradition, all screenings in the 2026 Summer Classic Movie Series will include original scores played on Lola. In addition to playing scores from the five selected films on the organ, the series will also feature organ music from other films Spielberg and Williams worked on including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler’s List, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and other memorable themes.
“One of the things I am most passionate about in this community is keeping all forms of art alive and accessible for younger generations,” Carter said. “Many of these movies are stories I grew up with. Now, people in their 30s and 40s have the opportunity to share this experience with their children. Spielberg is a director that makes movies for everyone with stories that, no matter how fantastical or unrealistic, have a relatability any age person can connect with.”
Although the Saenger Theatre often has a reputation for showcasing high art, particularly in live performances and cultural presentations, its Summer Classic Movie Series offers programming that is welcoming and engaging for the wider community. By doing so, the Saenger creates a space where everyone from seasoned cinephiles to families and casual viewers can gather and enjoy quality entertainment.
Tickets start at $7 (plus tax) and children under 2 years of age are admitted free as long as they sit on a ticketed adult’s lap. All screenings begin at 3 pm, with the lobby doors opening one hour prior to showtime. Pre-packaged snacks, Coca-Cola products, mixed drinks and assorted beers and wines are available for purchase but cash is not accepted.

If you buy tickets for all five screenings at the box office, you get one ticket for free. Tickets can be purchased at the Saenger Theatre Box Office located at 22 E. Intendencia St. in downtown Pensacola or online at pensacolasaenger.com.
2026 Saenger Summer Movie Series Lineup:
• July 26: Jaws (1975)
• August 1: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
• August 9: Jurassic Park (1993)
• August 16: Catch Me If You Can (2002)

It’s showtime! Although he earned his stripes on Broadway the ghost-with-the-most is coming to Pensacola Saenger Theatre on June 16. With an irreverent book, an astonishing set and a score that’s out of this Netherworld, Beetlejuice is screamingly good fun. And, under its uproarious surface, it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love and making the most of every Day-O. The show runs 2 hours and 45 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission and is recommended for ages 13 and older. Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) announced its Sailor of the Year during a ceremony held at the National Naval Aviation Museum onboard Naval Air Station Pensacola on recognizing the best Sailor from across the entire NETC domain.
Navy Diver 1st Class Mark Powell, assigned to Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, was selected as the NETC domain Sailor of the Year for fiscal year 2025 — an honor that reflects the highest standard of leadership, professionalism and dedication within one of the Navy's largest shore commands.
The award was presented by Rear Adm. Greg Huffman, commander of NETC, and Master Chief Petty Officer Ben Hodges, force master chief petty officer of NETC. The selection followed a rigorous week of interviews and evaluation boards conducted by a panel of senior leaders, designed to identify the Sailor best equipped to lead, inspire and develop fellow Sailors across the command.
“Out of 4,585 First Class Petty Officers across our learning centers and education sites, you have been named as the best,” Huffman said. “Not the best on a
given day. Not the best when conditions were easy. The best — consistently, purposefully and with impact that has been felt by the people around you and the mission you serve. Each of you have earned this — and you, your commands and your loved ones should be proud.”
Powell stood out by leading 10 instructors through more than 2,000 hours of high-risk training, producing 158 highly qualified officer and enlisted divers for the fleet and achieved 100% Diving Warfare Specialist qualifications across his team.
He also supervised 184 personnel through 210 complex, high-risk dives while overseeing facility upgrades, making a measurable and lasting impact at his command and beyond.
“It’s a huge honor. It represents all the time and the effort that not only I put in, but my command put in to support me and get me to where I am,” Powell said. “The biggest thanks needs to go to my family, my wife and two sons supporting me. Without them I would not have been able to do this.”
The road to this recognition was highly competitive. On May 4th, NETC welcomed four outstanding finalists — Hull Maintenance Technician 1st Class Bobby Bailey,
Surface Warfare Engineer Schools Command; Naval Aircrewman-Helicopter 1st Class Jeffrey Jorgensen, Naval Air Technical Training Center; Navy Diver 1st Class Mark Powell, Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center; and Sonar Technician Submarine 1st Class Justin Gore, Trident Training Facility.
Each candidate had distinguished themselves through exceptional leadership, professional excellence, and a demonstrated commitment to their Sailors and communities. Their week at NASP included command tours and events leading up to the announcement ceremony.
NETC accounts for nearly 87 percent of total naval training, encompassing roughly 33,000 trainees and 24,000 staff across 264 subordinate activities and 251 training sites worldwide.
Being named NETC's Sailor of the Year among such a vast and accomplished force is a testament to Powell's extraordinary service and character.
NETC's mission is to recruit, train, and deliver those who serve our nation — transforming civilians into highly skilled, combat-ready warfighters.
