We’re Baldasso Cortese, a 45-strong architecture, interior design and master planning practice based in Naarm, Melbourne and Djiling, Geelong.
Our collaborative team focuses on designing and delivering projects with community at the heart.
Founded by Anthony Baldasso and Steven Cortese, our practice is well known for the depth and diversity of our portfolio. We have completed master plans and built projects across aged care, child care, colleges, community centres, health centres, schools, and social housing. We are also experts in commercial and retail rollout projects.
We work at the intersection of people, place, and wellbeing. Each project is thoughtfully designed with the client’s needs and surroundings at the forefront. We create spaces that connect people … the practical, emotional and social spaces between us.

ANTHONY BALDASSO Co-Founder and Executive Chair Registered Architect, Victoria
STEVEN CORTESE
Anthony believes that the best projects come from lasting relationships built on trust and integrity. He knows that when passion and ability coincide, great people deliver great results.
Steven co-founded BC with Anthony Baldasso nearly 40 years ago. Since then, he has led the design and delivery of numerous care projects in Victoria, NSW, and New Zealand. He is BC’s Education lead.
Anthony holds a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) from the University of Melbourne and has been practising continuously since graduating. Combining his design skills with his passion for strategic planning, finance, and team building in architecture, Anthony has pursued management training. He is a member of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Order of Malta KMG. He has served as Deputy Chair of Zimele, an Edmund Rice Foundation Charity, and Deputy Chair of Sacred Heart College Geelong’s School Advisory Committee. He was also Chair of the College’s Planning and Facilities Subcommittee.
Co-Founder and Design Director Registered Architect, Victoria
Steve is an inspirational mentor to both established and emerging architects at the practice. He maintains strong ties with the University of Melbourne, his alma mater, and serves as Chair of the Newman College Council’s Building Committee, a co-educational residential college affiliated with the University. Steve is a strong advocate for First Nations partnerships and environmentally sustainable design. He believes intelligent design can reduce operational costs while enhancing wellbeing.

Romeo is BC’s retail and retail rollout expert. He has over 15 years experience in the retail design/planning and documentation fields.
Clara manages project delivery from the initial project briefings to schematic design, town planning to design development and construction documentation to the construction stages.
Romeo’s drive, integrity, self motivation and loyalty impresses clients. He is an organised team leader with the ability to develop and motivate teams to achieve quality design, documentation and standards. Romeo is able to work with clients under pressure with short time frames and adapt quickly to a changing environment. He brings essential expertise to existing refurbishments and retrospective fitout projects.
Her focus is on customer service and working closely with the client, designers, team of consultants and the contractor, to achieve the best value-added architecture within budget and time program. Clara has worked in both Australia and the UK across mixed-use, commercial, retail, residential, education, transport and heritage sectors.

ILLIYA ILIEVSKI Principal | Geelong Senior Designer Iliya brings skills in master planning and architectural design to projects across care, community, education and health. At Baldasso Cortese he is highly valued for his strong detail orientation, understanding of environmental design principles and proactive approach to finding buildable solutions. Iliya is innately client focused, and strives to maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders, from clients, consultants and sub-contractors to end users. Iliya is currently leading design and delivery of south-west region projects such as Mercy Regional College Camperdown, and Kids+ Foundation’s Early Learning Centre at Deakin University, Warun Ponds.
SONGYUN SUI Senior Project Architect | Melbourne Registered Architect, Victoria With a passion for driving innovative design solutions and quality design outcomes, Songyun focuses on developing a meaningful collaboration with clients, consultants and contractors. This helps achieve the successful delivery of projects whilst maintaining a high level of architectural quality. Songyun’s experience traverses a diverse range of project typologies, from large mixed-use and multi-residential developments to commercial and community-based care. Key projects include an award winning 65-storey multi-residential project in Melbourne CBD (EQ Tower); a 12-storey mixed use project in Hawthorn East including 140 apartments over two towers and offices and retail shops in the podium (CV Apartments); 130-room aged care centre in Geelong (TLC Homestead); and 276 Flinders Street Second Tower. 8

Silvertop Taxi Depot LOCATION Collingwood, Victoria FACILITY TYPE Offices

Somerville Police Station LOCATION Somerville, Victoria FACILITY TYPE Offices

Red Corten steel cladding responds to the colour of fallen leaves and the pine cones of local trees. The association with landscape continues internally through timber panelling. Warm and textural spotted gum provides an accent to an otherwise neutral palette. Large windows provide treetop views and allow light to filter into offices.

We executed the construction and refurbishment of each supermarket with minimal disruption to daily operations, giving the client’s staff confidence in our capacity to manage the completion of building works without impacting the business and environment. Aldi Supermarkets Rollout LOCATION Various across Victoria FACILITY TYPE Supermarket rollout
We have worked with ALDI for over a decade, tackling various challenges across their fleet of stores that form part of mixed-use sites.
Examples of our rollout work includes: ALDI Mordialloc retail supermarket is located on the ground floor of a mixeduse building, with specialty shops adjacent and two levels of apartments above. The store is a non-generic, 5-aisle, non-extended format situated within a major neighbourhood streetscape. ALDI Balwyn North retail supermarket is located on the ground floor of a mixeduse building within a Neighbourhood Activity Centre, featuring three levels of apartments above and two levels of basement car parking. The original concept included town planning for 35 apartments over the three upper levels,and we were exclusively appointed for the documentation of the 5-aisle ALDI supermarket for construction.

KFC Retail Rollout LOCATION Various, NSW, Victoria, Tasmania FACILITY TYPE Fast-food outlet rollout
For over 20 years, Baldasso Cortese has collaborated with KFC on over 1,000 projects, including new sites, fit-outs, food court tenancies and refurbishments.
We’ve walked beside our client from conceptual design through to handover, the challenge being to achieve the optimal design solution that’s true and consistent to the brand across multiple sites. We also understand the financial constraints that projects of this calibre entail. With our team’s combined years of experience and value management strategies and resources, we have ensured the best value for money is maintained for KFC. The reduction of store closure dates for these refurbishments has been expertly project managed to ensure we continue to serve our client’s vision for expansion and growth.
