Seven night itinerary

Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge is set at the heart of Vancouver Island’s natural wild-west playground. Get ready for a choose-your-own-adventure style escape where the landscape and wildlife combine in a backdrop to exhilarating, unforgettable experiences. Guests are presented with a personalised itinerary upon arrival, with guided signature, special interest and wellness experiences included in the tariff and shared with fellow guests at scheduled times. Private experiences can be arranged at additional cost subject to availability.

Seven Night Bedwell Safari

The following represents an indicative experience over seven nights. Many factors influence the delivered itinerary including pre-booked activities and weather conditions. Any special arrangements made in advance or once at the lodge will be choreographed by our team and your itinerary customised to ensure the very best experience of both lodge and island.

A stay at the lodge features a host of generous inclusions such as guided signature, special interest and wellness experiences, all gourmet dining, a selection of premium beverages and use of e-bikes, mountain bikes and watercraft.

Day 1 Welcome

Following the exhilarating journey of travelling to Clayoquot, check-in with a glass of sparkling wine and settle into the surrounds of The Outpost and your luxury tent, your home away from home. It’s glamping, Canadian safari-style!

Day 1 Late Afternoon

Take a front-row seat to the jaw-dropping views in The Ivanhoe and get into the spirit with a drink, or two. It’s a great time to chat with the team about the epic adventures planned for you in the week ahead.

Check in Check-in days are on Sundays and Thursdays only. Check-in time is 3.30pm. Guests arriving outside the standard check-in time are welcome to enjoy the lodge facilities.

Day 1 Night

Segue into dinner in The Cookhouse, the heart of the lodge and your go-to for dining and lounging. The restaurant features an open kitchen promising coal-face style theatre and a delicious daily-changing menu.

Day 2 Morning

After breakfast, get ready to encounter the region’s picture book wildlife on the Sights of the Sound marine safari. Cruise the coastline scouring for chance encounters with black bears, whales, sea lions, otters, orcas, eagles and more!

Day 2 Afternoon

Luncheon done, stride out on the Penny Falls Trail Hike, starting with an e-bike ride or UTV transfer up the valley. Passing by scenic lookouts, crystal-clear pools and a waterfall, the trail rewards with spectacular views and a refreshing dip along the way.

Day 2 Night

As the sun dips down, ease into your evening with drink by the fire in The Ivanhoe or take the party upstairs to the rooftop deck. Dine leisurely over dinner in The Cookhouse and reminisce on the day’s adventures.

Day 3 Morning

The lodge’s signature canyoning experience begins with an e-bike ride to reach the glacierfed waterfall channel, followed by a paddle upstream, a scramble over boulders, a refreshing swim and a thrilling jump from the suspension bridge. Wow!

Day 3 Afternoon

Switch mode and unwind with a treatment at the Healing Grounds Spa. Relax into the warmth of the sauna or plunge into the red cedar hot tubs on the over-water deck, the perfect postadventure tonic.

Day 3 Evening

Time for a change of altitude: meet your heli pilot and lift off for an exhilarating Alpine Scenic flight. Feel the freedom of a bird while soaring over the Mt Mariner Glacier with ‘golden hour’ views north across Strathcona Provincial Park (additional charge applies).

Day 3 Night

Dine in your reserved private dining tent this evening on dishes championing the bounty of premium local produce. Later, enjoy fine company and s’mores around the fire and share stories of your day under a glittering canopy of stars.

Day 4 Morning

Big breaky ticked off, saddle up with provided helmets and boots and set off for an unforgettable guided horse back ride through the valley, riding through old-growth forest, Jurassic-era fern gardens and a river crossing.

Day 4 Afternoon

Test your skills at the archery range. Your guide will teach you the fundamentals using traditional recurve bows before heading to the faux hunting trail to hone your new-found skills. Alternatively, ride to The Oasis or chillout in a hot tub.

Day 4 Night

Drink in the spectacular sunset views before dining in The Cookhouse. Let our chefs guide you on a culinary journey of the Pacific Northwest with dinner dishes including justcaught seafood and free-range beef. Save room for dessert!

Day 5 Early Morning

Welcome in the day with a sunrise stretch. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, find your pace and develop your balance, strength and flexibility while connecting your breath and body.

Day 5 Morning

Explore Vancouver Island’s sky-high remote landscapes on an unforgettable Heli Hiking experience. Accompanied by your guide, summit the peak of Mt Ursus and with your adrenalin pumping, savour your reward: 360° wilderness views (additional charge applies).

Day 5 Afternoon

You earned it: spend the afternoon at leisure and kick back in your luxury tent, take a stroll to the dock keeping your eyes peeled for black bears across the estuary or raid the larder in The Cookhouse for fresh-baked treats.

Day 5 Night

Mix it up tonight with a casual dinner sitting at the kitchen bar, sampling ingredients and picking up tips from the chefs while they work. Afterwards, try a dip in a hot tub, a sky full of stars above.

Day 6 Morning

Early risers can opt for a transformative Glacial Plunge. After breakfast, try your hand at trawling for Chinook salmon and jigging for rock cod on the West Coast Fishing experience. You never know what might be biting or what marine life you’ll encounter along the way.

Day 6 Afternoon

After a nourishing lunch, hit the lodge’s natural rockface overlooking the sparkling Bedwell Sound. Test your fitness and problem-solving abilities with a guided rock climb, complete with seven distinct climbing routes.

Day 6 Night

Dining at Clayoquot offers a real taste of the destination with cuisine influenced from British Columbia’s multi-cultural community and the Pacific Northwest’s thriving culinary scene, matched wines from Canada and overseas. Tuck in!

Day 7 Morning

After breakfast, stride out on the challenging Ursus Valley Hike. As you traverse the trail, look up in wonder at towering, 400-year-old forests of cedar and western hemlock, passing through plunging valleys and by crystal-clear streams. Enjoy a gourmet picnic along the way.

Day 7 Late Afternoon

Wellbeing is woven into every aspect of a stay at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge. Take time out with a restorative massage at the Healing Grounds Spa and dial up the relaxation with a sauna or soak in a hot tub pre or post.

Day 7 Night

Head up to the rooftop of The Ivanhoe and sink into a comfy lounge to drink in the magic of twilight. Dine in the comfortable surrounds of The Cookhouse, where the chefs will treat you to an unforgettable final dinner.

Day 8 Morning

For your last morning at Clayoquot, enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the outdoor deck, surrounded by the beauty of Mother Nature. There’s time for a canoe or kayak adventure or to float around and perfect your SUP technique.

Day 8 Farewell

Following lunch, stay local in The Outpost. Play a round of corn in the hole while awaiting the arrival of the seaplanes. At the signal from the team, the horse-drawn carriage will ferry you to the dock for your onward journey. Safe travels.

In addition to the included guided signature, special interest and wellness experiences, the lodge offers a menu of aerial adventures exploring the vast, remote wilderness by helicopter with options designed to suit every interest and occasion from heli hiking to sky-high sunset drinks.
