OPTION 2 From Malga Mondent , take the forest path to Malga Cortinga Alta. Follow the signs for Pass de l’Om and from there, the wide track on the right, up through the meadow. Continue up to the ridge, keeping the peak on your right as you go up, then back to Mondent following the same route in reverse.

From Pracorno, in Val di Rabbi, drive up towards Ingenga and as far as Masi di Zora (1404 m), where you can leave your vehicle. Now take the gravel road to Malga Mondent: first you come to Malga Bassa and then Malga Alta (1913 m), where you can enjoy views over the river Brenta. Follow the route to Malga Cortinga Alta (2059 m) From here, take the SAT 117 trail to Pas de l’Om (2331 m). At the pass, take SAT 133 B, then leave the main path on the right to continue up the wide, grassy ridge and on to the stone cairns on Cima Lac. Use the same route to return.

From the Fontanon car park (1550 m) follow the forest route and Via delle Malghe to Malga Cercen Bassa. Once at the Malga (1969 m) continue up, along the forest path to Malga Cercen Alta (2147 m). From here, take the trail known as “Via delle Malghe” in the direction marked and as far as Malga Villar Alta (2183 m). Continuing along “Via delle Malghe” will take you to Malghe Fassa (2057 m) and immediately after, Malga Monte Sole Alta (2048 m). Descend along the forest route to Malga Monte Sole Bassa (1750 m) and on to the point where you started. During the summer, the starting point can be reached by shuttle bus - Stelvio Bus

Starting from the Cavallar car park above the small hamlet of the same name (1430 m), take the SAT trail 133/A signposted for Malga Palù. The trail climbs first through a larch wood and then on to the high mountain pastures and then to Malga Palù (2088 m). Take the “Via delle Malghe” trail that, at high altitude reaches Malga Caldesa Alta (2054 m) and from there, the choice is either to continue along the Forest trail to Malga Samocleva (1892 m) or to descend along Via delle Malghe to Malga Caldesa Bassa (1835 m), which then meets a slight climb along the “Via delle Malghe” to Malga Samocleva. From the malga, also along the “Via delle Malghe” you will come to Malga Terzolasa (1895 m) and from here, descend along the forest trail to the Cavallar car park. OPTION 2: From the refuge (2425 m) it is possible to take the SAT 145 trail up among the splendid Corvo lakes and then over rocky terrain up to the panoramic Cima Collecchio (2957 m). Return to the refuge along the same route.

OPTION 1: From the village of Piazzola and up to the little hamlet of Cavallar (1450 m). You can set out from just above the village or head to Malga Samocleva (1892 m) with the shuttle bus from the park (booking required). From the malga, you can enjoy the splendid views over Val di Rabbi. The SAT 108 trail will take you into the valley with the Rio Lago Corvo river. Past the river, you will come to Malga Caldesa Alta, where you can see the Brenta Dolomites and Presanella, and lastly, the Rifugio Stella Alpina at Lake Corvo (2.425m).

Start from the Coler car park (1386 m), which can be reached by car from Piazzola di Rabbi. From the car park, you will come to Malga Stablasolo (1529 m) in about half an hour. 200 m from the malga, a right-hand fork offers you the chance to take the trail to the Saènt falls. This adds about 10 minutes to the route, but it is definitely worth it. You will enjoy the sheer spectacle and explosive energy of the water. If you are not interested, then you can continue on the left up to Malga Stablèt, the visitors centre of the Stelvio National Park, dedicated to the world of the marmot. From here you can walk along the beaten, well-signed track and up, for about some 5 km along the SAT 106 trail to Dosso della Croce (1796 m), then to Prà di Saènt. Continue, amidst the whistles of the marmots, up to Malga Vecla, where the climbers’ trail, “Sentiero degli Alpinisti” will take you up to Palina (2100 m). Keeping to the left side of the River Rabbies, in a setting that is rich with rhododendrons, marmots and water, you will come to Rifugio Saent ‘S. Dorigoni’ (2437 m).

From the “Plaze dei Forni” car park, near Rabbi Fonti (1200 m), the route ascends the forest path up to Malga Polinar (1769 m). From here take the SAT 171 trail that first ascends through a sparse woodland and then among meadows and rocks, up to 2326 m; at the fork with the SAT 172 trail, take this latter and continue on to Malga Campo Secco. At the malga (2023 m), continue first along the SAT 172 and then the SAT 172/A trail to meet the Val Cercena forest path, which will take you down to the car park where you started.

After parking in Val Valorz, past the bridge over the Rabbies, take the SAT 121 trail to the stunning Cascate di Valorz waterfall. The route takes you up through a sparse larch wood and up to Lake Soprassasso. Continue past the lake, heading northwest to reach Lake Rotondo and once past this, up on the right side towards Lake Quarto, then, after crossing a grassy section, Lake Alto. Valletta Pass is reached in just a few minutes and from here you can enjoy the stunning views out over the valley. The return will take you back down along your outward route.

After leaving your vehicle in the car park at Coler, take the trail on the left, which is known as the “Percorso della fauna” (wildlife route) as far as Malga Stablaz Maleda Bassa (1731 m). Follow the dirt road until you come to the left fork of “Via delle Malghe”, signposted for Bait Forborida. At the end of the steep section, you will come to the pastures of Malga Stablaz Maleda Alta and after crossing some streams, you will see Bait Foriborda at 2129 m. Here you can enjoy the breathtaking views out over the whole Val di Rabbi. Continue walking down towards Malga Stablasolo (1543 m). To return to the start, just follow the winding trail down from the malga on the dirt road that will take you back to the car park. Once past the village of Bolentina, drive to Plaza Longa, following the signs. Park here and carry on along the forest path on foot, between the meadows of Plaza Merendaia and Malga de la Cros (1601 m). Once past the malga, take the route marked SAT 119 towards Malga Bolentina Alta. Pass the malga, continue along SAT 119 to the Dino Marinelli bivouac (2075 m). Continue up along the ridge as far as the unusual cross on Cimon di Bolentina (2287 m). From here, continue back on SAT 119, the trail that will take you to Piz de Montes (2399 m). Return along the same route.

OPTION 1 From the village of Terzolas, take the forest trail up to Malghetto di Terzolas. Drive up as far as Malghetto Alto, after first acquiring a permit from the local municipality. From here, take the SAT 117A trail, first through the woods and then onto the high mountain pastures, and up as far as the peak, 2397 m. Follow the same route down on your return. *exposed sections, significant physical effort

OPTION 1: from Loc. Bersaglio to Cles, drive up first to Lake Durigat (1870 m). Continue along the SAT 336 trail following the signs for Malga Tassulla (2089 m), then up to Passo della Nana (2198 m). From here, the trail continues to ascend to Cima Nana (caution: some sections of the route are exposed). Once at Cima Nana (2570 m) return along the same route as far as Passo Nana then descend via Lake Salare, first along route SAT 335, then 308. Once at the lake, keep to the right and continue up to Passo della Forcola (2106 m) then back to Malga Tassulla and to your starting point.

Setting out from Cave di Monclassico, continue in the direction of the malga along the forest path with its constant upwards slope, crossing a dense woodland of tall Norway spruce, silver fir, and beech trees. Further on, the wood thins out to make way for the large green meadows that are home to Malga Sadron. This malga has livestock and therefore, you can see the cows at pasture, grazing in the meadows all around. The return journey follows the outward one in reverse.

OPTION 2: From Piazzale Belvedere in Folgarida (1330 m), take the forest trail down to Pont del Pastin (1211 m). From here, continue up along the SAT 329/B forest route and then take the SAT 329 trail up through the woods. Just before coming to the Costanzi bivouac, there is a short, exposed section, equipped with a metal wire and once past this, you will reach a fork with the SAT 365 route, which you follow up to the bivouac (2362 m). From the Bivouac there is a trail up over the scree slopes to Selletta della Nana (2530 m) where you will be able to admire the peak of the same name.Return along the same route.

From the Grosté car park (after Passo Campo Carlo Magno), continue by car to Malga Mondifrà (1632 m). From here, you follow the forest trail up to the SAT 334 hiking route on the right through to “Val Gelada - Bocchetta dei 3 Sassi”. The trail climbs through a dense wood, opening out at about 1900 m, where the terrain becomes stonier. Continue the ascent, with its stunning panoramic views over Adamello Presanella, up to the characteristic three “stones” that give their name to the fork (2614 m). To return, follow the same route back.

Setting out from the town of Menas, cross through the town and after passing a large barn, take the forest route on the right as far as a no entry sign, where you can leave your vehicle. From here, you continue on foot along the trail which starts off level and gradually becomes steeper, following the signs to Malga Monte Alta and Malga del Monte Bassa (1699 m). Once past the malga, follow the signs to “Laresi dela Tegia”. The route offers some stunning views, and you can also take the time to admire 25 larch trees that have grown into strange, fascinating shapes. Continue and you will come to Bait del Germano. You return along the outward route.

From the car park at Patascoss (there is a charge during the summer season), take the hiking route for Malga Ritorto , then turn right onto the forest path. From here there is a constant uphill section to Lake Ritorto. This section can be omitted by taking the cable lift from Madonna di Campiglio. The route continues upwards, in a northerly direction up to Passo Ritorto. A short path will take you down to Lake Lambin. Now you continue upwards again, crossing the mountain ridge before embarking on a slight descent towards the third lake, Serodoli. Just 100 m further on is Lake Gelato. On the same route, turn back to Lake Serodoli, to cover a more difficult downhill section to Lake Nero. Continue, still downhill, to Lake Nambino and the refuge of the same name. From the lake, the trail continues down through the woods and back to Patascoss.

Once at the Rifugio Alpe Daolasa , continue up along Monte Vigo and on to Rifugio Orso Bruno . From here, descend along the path, heading west to the SAT 267 trail to Lake Alto. Follow the trail to the first of the Three Lakes, and then on to the other two - the middle and lower lakes. Passing alongside the lower lake, a very steep path will take you up to Lake Scuro. The descent is through dense woods, down to the fascinating Malghette Lake . From here, follow the signs to Sentiero dei Pastori and back to the start of the hike.

Leave your vehicle at Marilleva 1400, reach Residence Artuick on foot and take the SAT 202 trail which begins as a forest track and then a mule path, that will take you to the first of the two lakes of Malghet di Mezzana. Downstream of the first lake, take the slightly uphill path to the upper lake. Upstream of the first of the two lakes, take the trail to the Croce della Pace and once out of a wood of Swiss pines and larches, you will come to a rocky ridge, partly equipped, that lead to the top of Mount Gardene and the Cross. You return along the outward route.

Alternatively, from Campo Carlo Magno continue to Malga Vigo , then SAT 201 and on to Lake Malghette. Continue through the peat bogs and Swiss pines, to Lake Scuro and then up the steep path towards the Three Lakes. To close the loop, return to Lake Malghette and the starting point at the cross-country ski centre.

Alternatively, from Marilleva 1400 you can take the lift up to Malga Panciana followed by the SAT 201 trail up to Rifugio Orti . From here, continue along the path until you come to the SAT 202 trail that will take you to the lakes and then the Cross. You return along the outward route.

Setting out from the car park upstream of the village of Ortisè, you will come to Malga Stabli and from here, you continue on to Malga Bronzolo without actually arriving there. 200 metres before the malga, at the bend, take the left to Baita degli Alpini. Once at this bivouac, cross the stream and follow the lovely flat path to Malga Vallenaia. From Malga Vallenaia you continue up along the forest trail near Malga Pozze before taking the road down to the car park.

Drive to Fazzon - Lake Caprioli and leave your vehicle there. Near Malga Bassa di Fazzon you take the SAT 203 trail in the direction of Malga Alta di Fazzon. Once at the Malga (1546 m), carry on along the same path to the Baita Regina del Bosco. From here, up to the Stablo lakes and Malga - bivouac Artuik (1976 m). Continue along the stony ground on the SAT 203 trail, following the signs marked “Passo Val Gelada” (2515 m). Return along the same route.

Drive towards Fazzon, not far from Lake Caprioli, leaving your vehicle in the large car park near Malga Bassa di Fazzon (1251 m). Continue along the asphalt road in the direction of Lake Caprioli. Just before the lake, there is a small bridge on the right. Pass this and continue along the dirt track and then along the uphill stretch of SAT 243. You will reach Val Baselga and the bivouac of the same name (2006 m). Return along the outward route.

Two km from the village of Ossana, go to Valpiana and park your vehicle. Follow the forest trail in the direction of Malga Valpiana and then take the SAT 216 trail on your left. The first part of the trail passes through a dense wood, before reaching a clearing (ex Baito di Bon 1686 m) where you will find signs to Lake Venezia. Continue along the SAT 216 trail, along Val di Bon as far as the bivouac (Stalon di Bon). Leave the bivouac on your left and continue on the trail to the wild area known as Lake Venezia (2046 m). Use the same route to return.

Take the Tarlenta lift as far as the Dining services Scoiattolo and the chairlift up to Dining services Doss dei Gembri (2380 m). From the refuge, follow SAT 105 up to the ridge of Monte Vioz. Continue up to Brick (3206 m), a section of equipped route with a metal rope (care must be taken here). The last part is also a series of bends, arriving at Rifugio Vioz Mantova (3535m). From here, continue to the peak of Monte Vioz (3645 m), with its breathtaking panoramic views of the Thirteen Peaks, Adamello-Presanella and the Brenta Dolomites. After a short walk on the glacier, you will come to Punta Linke (3631 m) and the interesting Great War archaeological site. In the last few decades, the glacier and the snow have preserved the whole fort in its original state, allowing the creation of an exceptional open-air museum at high altitude. In both cases, once at Lake Barco, continuing along the SAT 205, you come to Lake Piccolo, set in a tiny valley (Lake Piccolo from Lake Barco and back is about two and a half hours).

From the district of Celentino, drive to the car park of the chapter of Sant’Antonio. From here, continue on foot along the forest path or take the SAT 132 trail to Nest Alp Malga Campo (1979 m) following the signs for Malga Sassa and Bait Cadinel to then take the steep path a little further along, on the right to Bait di Cadinel (2419 m). The path continues, sloping gently, to the valley that is home to Lake Cadinel (2524 m) in spring and early summer. Take the turning on the right and then the steep path up, following the signs to Cima Vegaia. Once on the mountain ridge, continue on the left, heading to Cima Vegaia as far as the cross (2890 m). Return along the outward path to the second cross in the Vega chain. Now follow the direction of Lake Celentino and the trail back, first to Malga Campo and then the car park.

From the hamlet of Cogolo, take the SAT 109/B trail. Once past Fratta Aperta (1650 m), with its splendid views of Mount Vioz, continue along the forest path up to Malga Borche (1808 m). From here, continue alongside the old irrigation canal (“lec”) and on to Malga Levi (2016 m), where the vegetation begins to thin out. Along the outskirts of the Stelvio National Park, cross the alpine prairie, with its flowering rhododendrons and the possibility to spot marmots and chamois deer. The uphill section continues up to Passo Cercen (2623 m), with its breathtaking views of the Ortles-Cevedale Mountain group and on to the Val di Rabbi. Take the same route back.

From Peio Fonti you come to Fontanino (1670m), leaving your vehicle. At the bridge, take the SAT 110 trail to Lake Pian Palù and continue the full length of the trail, to Malga Palù (1820m). Keeping on the orographic right (avoiding the bridge over the river Noce), you take the 110 trail up to Lake “Laghetti” (2240m). Once past Lake Laghetti and having reached the walkway over the river Noce, it is possible to take the left and follow the signs for Lake Vallumbrina. After passing an initially even section, the route becomes steeper to reach a waterfall and then arrive at the lake. The route back is the same, as far as the walkway over the river. Proceed along SAT 141A, then reaching the ruins of the Villacorna Mountain Cabin. At this point, continue upwards for around ten minutes before you come to a new walkway over Rio Valpiana. From here, following the fixed posts down to Malga Paludei (2100m) then the forest path back to Malga Giumella (1950m) and Fontanino.

Alternatively, you can reach Lake Barco starting from the lakes of San Leonardo in Vermiglio, where you cross the river Vermigliana and take the forest path in the direction of Ossana, to take the SAT 205 trail to the lake.

Setting out from Fontanino, in half an hour you will come to the emerald Lake Pian Palù and once at Malga di Celentino, take the SAT 144 trail, initially narrow and winding before opening out to reach the charming Val Pudria. From Baito Val Pudria at 2147 metres, continue in the direction of Valle Alta, then onto SAT 144A to reach the splendid panoramic terrace looking out over Valle del Monte and Lake Pian Palù. Continuing along the steep grassy slopes on the side face of Val Comiciolo, crossing the scree slopes to arrive at Baito di Val Comiciolo. To return, descend along the winding trail until you come to trail 137 to Malga Celentino and then back to Fontanino.

Setting out from Peio Fonti, take the Peio Fonti - Tarlenta cable lift and then the chair lift to Dining services Doss dei Gembri at 2316 m. Continue along SAT 138 to Val de la Mite and then, on the left, take SAT 139, known as the “Tedeschi” path. Once past the walkway over the river Taviela, continue along an equipped path section, using the fixed safety rope until you reach La Colem. Continuing along on the right, you come to Colle Cadini and then, after a slight climb, you can visit some military ruins and then reach Valle degli Orsi. Here you take SAT 122, the trail that will take you to the SAT 124: continue to Malga Giumela and Lake Pian Palù. Return first to Fontanino and then Peio Fonti.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: Alternatively, once in La Colem, leave the Tedeschi path and follow the SAT 139B down into Val Cadini, then continue along the SAT 129 past a pretty waterfall, then follow the signs for Malga Frattasecca - Cascata Cadini along SAT 129B. The trail continues to meet the Strada Militare SAT 124 and Malga Frattasecca. From here, return to Peio Fonti.

Drive to the Prà Bòn car park on asphalt road. From here, take the path on the left, which will take you to Malga Mare (2301 m) and from here, the SAT 102 trail through a Swiss pine wood, as far as Pian Venezia. From here, it is possible to see the refuge and these views will accompany you for the rest of the route. From the refuge, you can take the SAT 104 trail to a small pass (2751 m). From here, you will come to the enchanting Lake Marmotte (2705 m), which is the highest point of the hike. After leaving the lake, follow the SAT 123, continuing along an easy level route that passes near Lake Lungo and the smaller Lake Nero, just before the Càreser reservoir (2603 m). Cross the lake, following the dam wall as far as the surveillance buildings, and from here, the SAT 123 will take you down over numerous bends. As you continue, the trail zigzags through a lovely wood of characteristic Swiss pines and once back on the path, you will descend as far as the Pra Bòn car park.

OPTION 1: From the characteristic hamlet of Vermiglio, near the town hall, you take the SAT 126 trail up to malga Saviana. Continue along the trail, then into the wild Val Saviana, crossing flower meadows and larch woods, through to a fork with signs to Cima Boai-Val Comasine (2685m). Return along the same route. OPTION 2: From the village of Peio Fonti near the Hotel Aurora, follow the route in the direction of Belvedere. Leave the asphalt road and take the SAT 126 trail, until you come to Malga Val Comasine (2088 m). Continue along the forest path to Malga Mason (2178 m) and, once past the tree line, you continue on a path with alternating flat and steeper sections, in an alpine meadow that is home to marmots and chamois deer. OPTION 1: From the car park Valbiolo, reach Hotel La Mirandola near which you take the SAT 111 trail to the Contrabbandieri Pass at 2679 m. Once at the Pass, continue down to Rifugio Bozzi where you can admire the Great War remains, belonging to both the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies. From the refuge continue up to Forcella del Montozzo and then along a trail with splendid views over Val di Peio, you reach the Montozzo lakes. You return along the outward route.

OPTION 2: Alternatively, you can set out from Fontanino and then, take the SAT 110 path to Malga di Celentino. From here, take SAT 137 which, shortly after, meets SAT 111B along to Forcellina del Montozzo at 2613 metres. Then continue down to the refuge . Return along the same route.

From the car park near Forte Strino (1500 m) follow the SAT 137 trail to Malga Strino. Close to the bridge over the river Strino, on the right, take the forest path marked with signs to “Masi di Strino” and “Bait de Mezòl” to reach this typical alpine hut (1880 m) used as a shelter by herders and hunters. From Bait you continue on a forest path into a dense wood and then along a trail to Malga Verniana (1838 m). From the malga, continue first on the trail and then on a forest path in the direction of Malga Saviana (1917 m). From there, take the SAT 126/B and a little above, the state road 42 leads onto the forest path that takes you back on a slight uphill stretch to Forte Strino.

Once past a dense wood of larch and alder trees, you come to a small chalet above Lake Barco. Return along the same route.

After leaving your vehicle at the Valbiolo car park, you come to the Hotel La Mirandola on foot, where you can take the SAT 111 trail. At the crossroads, take the SAT 161 which, after passing the large grassy meadows on Monte Tonale Orientale, comes to the Città Morta [Dead City]: an old Austro-Hungarian military settlement from the First World War, where it is possible to see the remains of the dry walls that once were a village. From here, after about one and a half hours from the crossroads, you will come to Lower Lake Strino and then the Upper lake, at the foot of Mount Redival. The return involves a loop, starting on the SAT 137 trail as far as the crossroads with the SAT 160, on to Forte Zaccarana and then Passo del Tonale. The starting point is Pozzi Alti (1884 m), which can be reached along the military track from Stavel near the hamlet of Vermiglio. This track, which is around 6.2 km long, is accessible to everyone without any need for a permit. If you wish to walk this section too, you can take the SAT 233 trail to the former Forte Pozzi Alti, one of the Austro-Hungarian military strongholds placed there to defend Passo Tonale. From the car park, take the SAT 233 trail, a slight uphill climb through a tunnel dug out of the rock and some gullies, until you come to the sign for SAT 206, which will take you straight up to Stavel. Continue towards the Rifugio Stavel “F. Denza” (2298 m). The return is along the same route. LOCATION VERMIGLIO

OPTION 1: The starting point is the car park at the Paradiso gondola lift at Passo Tonale. First take the gondola lift to Passo Paradiso (2573m), then the Presena lift to Passo Presena (2997m). From here you can admire the Mandrone and Lobbia glaciers. Descend along the SAT 209, passing via Lake Scuro and then continuing as far as Rifugio Mandron Città di Trento (2449m).

OPTION 2: From Carisolo, in Val Rendena, you drive up through the whole Val di Genova or take the “Val di Genova Express” bus service (info at www.pnab.it) to the car park at Malga Bedole (1581 m). From here, at the foot of the Mandrone and Lobbia glaciers, you take the SAT 212 trail straight up to the refuge . The return is along the same route.

From the “Paradiso” camper area, take the “Sentiero dei Rododendri” trail and at the end of this, the uphill trail (SAT 281) to Alveo Presena, an area that consists of crystal-clear water curves, moulded by the erosion of the glacier. Turning back for a few hundred metres onto the “Sentiero della Pace” [peace path] you can visit the military remains before going on to Passo Paradiso (2585 m). Return along the same route or alternatively, take the Paradiso gondola lift. The return route is possible going down on gondola lift to Passo Paradiso.

Once at the “Paradiso” and “Presena” lifts (3000 m), take the trail up to Passo Lago Scuro, where you will come to a military village with a charming church. Go up along the stone steps, northwards to the “Capanna Amici di Lago Scuro”, which is usually open during August weekends. From here the route crosses exposed ledges and gullies, sometimes over small wooden walkways and also on the more famous walkways suspended over the void (alternatively, there is a tunnel dug out of the rock). Once at the end of the via ferrata at Passo Castellaccio (2963 m), descend along the valley, first to the Monticello lakes and the Paradiso gondola lift. Use the lift to return to Passo Tonale.

From the car park Valbiolo, continue up over an asphalt road to Ospizio San Bartolomeo. First take the SAT 111 hiking trail, then proceed along the SAT 161 as far as the pass at Monte Tonale Orientale. You will then come to Cima Tonale Orientale which is the start of the Sentiero degli Austriaci route. There are numerous war remains to be seen along the route up to Torrione d’Albiolo. From Torrione, you descend, heading west to the fork in Valle di Viso and then along the equipped trail, which is exposed in some sections and without chains, known as “Sentiero degli Alpini” and on to Passo Contrabbandieri. From here, there is a long descent to the Valbiolo car park. You can go down on the ski lifts. The route can also be hiked in reverse, using the ski lifts up to just below Passo Contrabbandieri.
