2025 ANNUAL REPORT
Our Mission
To transform the lives of children facing emotional and behavioral challenges.
By building bridges to hope and healing, we empower children to grow, families to strengthen, and communities to thrive.
The year 2025 was one that reshaped Alexander Youth Network in meaningful ways. We began with an important leadership transition—honoring Craig Bass for his exceptional 34 years of service as well as welcoming Brennon Graham back to Alexander as our new CEO. It was a moment that invited us to reflect on our past and confidently plan for the future.
We also faced the threat of significant Medicaid cuts that would have deeply affected children and families across North Carolina. Thanks to your advocacy and your belief in the importance of this work, those cuts were reversed for the foreseeable future. Because of you, thousands of children will continue to receive the care they deserve.
This year brought innovation and growth. A generous grant from The Duke Endowment allowed us to launch Motivational Interviewing as an agency‑wide treatment model, strengthening our commitment to person‑centered care. We piloted the Family Peer Partner Program with UNC Greensboro’s NC Youth and Family Voices Amplified, expanded our network of licensed foster homes, and began laying the groundwork for expanded psychiatric residential treatment services in the Triad to meet growing needs across the state.
Across Alexander and our affiliated organizations, we connected more than 9,500 children and youth throughout North Carolina with healing this past year. Each moment of healing, whether a breakthrough in therapy, a safe place to be heard, or a step toward resilience, gives a child the courage to imagine a future that once felt out of reach. That hope is what drives us. All of the innovative approaches, new programs, and expanded services become building blocks in a larger structure— a bridge strong enough to carry a child towards a future they didn’t know was possible.

But no bridge stands because of one effort alone. It takes all of us— our dedicated staff, committed volunteers, community partners, and donors like you. Together, we are creating something lasting. Not just for the children who find healing today, but for those who will need us in the years ahead.

Seth is a tall, strong 11‑year‑old who is often mistaken for being much older. But behind that first impression is a child working hard to understand and express his emotions. On the autism spectrum, school often felt overwhelming and home life grew tense. His frustration often surfaced as aggression, withdrawing, or refusing to participate.
At Alexander Youth Network, we understand that challenging behaviors are often a child’s way of communicating unmet needs. Many simply haven’t yet learned the skills to manage big emotions.
Our programs are designed to meet children where they are, help them feel safe, and support healing for the whole family.
Seth began that journey in our Charlotte Day Treatment program. Staff quickly noticed what helped him succeed— advance warnings before transitions, time to process each new activity, and quiet moments when he felt overstimulated. With a routine he could predict and adults who understood how he communicated, Seth began to participate more and build confidence.
Even with this progress, home remained difficult, so our team recommended Residential Services The Transition House is a structured residential program for children ages 6–12 who need extra support before returning home. This environment provided the reset Seth needed. He practiced following routines, asking for help, and expressing himself more clearly.
Just as importantly, his mother and sister learned strategies to
support him. They discovered how much he relied on structure, how essential quiet time was for him, and how patience helped him stay regulated.
After nearly six weeks, Seth returned home and continued receiving support through Intensive In-Home Services. With consistent guidance, his family built on the progress he had made, helping him stay regulated at home and transition successfully back to his community school.
Today, Seth is thriving at home, school, and in his community. Because of the support of donors and volunteers like you, Alexander Youth Network was able to create a bridge from conflict to calm for Seth and his family. If you want to learn more about our mission or connect with Alexander on a deeper level, join us for a campus tour. Campus tours are free introductions to Alexander Youth Network held at our main campus in southeast Charlotte. The tour lasts approximately one hour, and visitors are not asked to contribute to the agency’s mission. The goal is to share with guests the scope of mental illness in our community and how Alexander is making a difference in the lives of children and families.
Join us in our mission of building bridges to hope and healing by spreading the word about the mental health needs of vulnerable children in our community. You can host a tour on our campus by inviting your friends or coworkers to join you. Or we can bring a tour directly to your community group, church, or local business. You can also help spread awareness by following and sharing about us on social media.
