AWAH 2025 Appeal Letter

November 2025

Gree-ngs Dear Friends,

Here we are almost at the end of 2025 when just a few months ago, we were celebra-ng the New Year. This year has certainly had its moments to say the least. Despite issues in the country, American Women of African Heritage, Inc. (AWAH) con-nues with its mission to support Black women and girls in our community.

We are very fortunate that with your con-nuous support, we were able to support Black women returning to college to con-nue their educa-on. Both of AWAH’s scholarship programs: “The Second Chance Scholarship” and “AWAH’s Pathways to Workforce Development Scholarship” at SUNY Westchester Community College (SUNY WCC) are very successful.

You may recall in our 2024 newsleUer that a new scholarship had been approved by AWAH members named “AWAH’s Pathways to Workforce Development” which is the first of its type at SUNY Westchester Community College. These programs are short-term courses las-ng 6-9 months. Depending on the discipline, they may be less expensive and will lead to a cer-ficate in such disciplines as: Informa-on Technology, Cer-fied Nurse Assistant (CNA), Construc-on, Data Analy-cs and Healthcare to name a few.

SUNY WCC partners with companies so that these students will be able to be employed in their discipline. In today’s world, some students prefer to learn how to “work with their hands” rather than obtain a degree and find themselves unemployable.

Meet Our Two Recipients:

(Both awardees requested that their names be withheld).

A single mother of two children, she earned her B.S. degree in 2005 majoring in technology management and currently oversees a so_ware product suppor-ng its users. To make herself more marketable, she earned a cer-ficate in COMPTIA A+ IT Helpdesk. This cer-fica-on will provide her with those skills. Her plan is to complete more courses specializing in cybersecurity.

Our next awardee is a wife and mother of four amazing children ranging in age from 6 to 14 years old. She completed the COMPTIA A+ IT Helpdesk program. She will take the cer-fica-on test later this year. Her goal is to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering.

Both recipients thank AWAH for the opportunity and generosity.

Sadly, AWAH mourned the passing of two of its devoted members: Helen Williams and Eddie Mae Barnes. Remember them in your thoughts and prayers.
