Greetings from American Women of African Heritage, Inc. (AWAH)
Like many organizations, the pandemic has paused activities for the past 20 months. Who knew that we would see each other in a small box on our computer screens using Zoom technology? But Zoom came to the “rescue” and helped us to survive the isolation and continue activities as close to near “normal” as possible.
Great News! In keeping with our mission statement, AWAH presented a check to the Westchester Community College Foundation for $45,000.00 to provide scholarships for worthy female students. AWAH’s investment in the Foundation’s endowment fund will, in perpetuity, annually provide one student a scholarship to resume her education.
It is through your support over the years that AWAH has provided an annual Second Chance Scholarship Award at Westchester Community College. This scholarship is awarded to a female student of African ancestry who has returned to college following an interruption in her education. Our fundraising activities supported this and other worthy endeavors.
Although other AWAH programs, including the annual Literary Celebration and mentoring programs, Knit Pics and O.R.A.L.S., were also paused during this period, AWAH used the time to reimagine delivery of programs in keeping with the new normal. Despite turmoil and uncertainty in many communities, AWAH continues to pay it forward for the benefit of young women, school age girls and boys, and others in the African American community.
This year, more than ever, your donation will help AWAH continue programs that benefit our communities. Your generous contribution will allow AWAH to continue its journey of giving and helping our communities grow and prosper. Together, we can, and will make a difference.
