Meyer Sound opens manufacturing facility to serve China demand
Meyer Sound is pleased to announce the opening of a new manufacturing facility and office in Shanghai, China. The wholly owned subsidiary will produce the company’s top-selling loudspeaker products exclusively for the China market. The move reflects growing demand across China, particularly for performing arts centres, theaters, and live venues in rapidly growing cities outside major metropolitan areas. The Shanghai facility spans 4,500 square meters in the western part of the city and will initially employ staff across product assembly, quality control, and finance functions. All products will be assembled following the same processes and quality control standards used in Berkeley, CA. The Shanghai team will be supported by Meyer Sound staff from its global headquarters, who will lead initial training and ensure assembly and testing processes align with our globally celebrated standards.
The China live sound market has seen strong growth in recent years, driven by a proliferation of live music venues, a thriving festival circuit, and continued investment in performing arts infrastructure across the country. China is already Meyer Sound’s largest market for PANTHER line arrays outside the United States, with robust sales led by distributor Shanghai Broad Future (SBF). The Shanghai facility will produce many of Meyer Sound’s top products, including PANTHER and the 2100-LFC low-frequency control element, adding the new TIGRA line array and 1800-LFC later this year.
“The new factory will significantly accelerate Meyer Sound’s momentum in one of the world’s most active markets for live sound and the performing arts,” says Senior Vice President John McMahon. “This facility is about supporting the next phase of that growth.”

Audinate expands Dante AVIO install
Audinate has announced three new additions to its Dante AVIO Install adapter series: Dante AVIO Install 4-Ch Analog Input, 4-Ch Analog Output, and 2-Ch In/2Ch Out Analog adapters, all featuring dual switched Ethernet ports that allow up to four units to share a single network drop via daisy chaining. Designed for AV integration, Dante AVIO Install adapters provide a compact, cost-effective way to convert analogue audio to Dante for both new and existing installations. Euroblock terminals support the fixed wiring that permanent installations demand, while an included bracket and Dante AVIO ClickGrid system give integrators the flexibility to mount adapters wherever they are needed under shelves, on rack rails, or secured to posts.
The new models allow for higher channel density when connecting to amplifiers, line mixers, DSPs, and other analogue installed AV equipment, reducing the number of adapters needed to convert multiple channels to Dante or handle bidirectional audio at a single endpoint. They are suited to applications ranging from single conference rooms and classrooms to audio distribution across buildings, campuses, and zones with centralized device management. By sharing a single network drop across up to four adapters, the new daisy chaining functionality significantly reduces the number of switch ports and cable runs required across an installation. This lowers overall network infrastructure costs and makes it easier and more cost-effective to deploy multiple adapters as systems grow.
As part of the Dante platform, all Dante AVIO Install adapters work with familiar Dante tools. Audio routing and configuration are handled in Dante Controller, while Dante Director and Dante Domain Manager add advanced capabilities including remote monitoring, logging and alerts, user access control, and more. “By combining higher channel density and daisy chain functionality, the latest Dante AVIO Install adapters give integrators an economical path to converting analogue endpoints to Dante at scale. They reduce the number of adapters, switch ports, and long cable runs required
across an installation, and fit directly into the Dante workflows and tools integrators already know,” said Jonathan Bailey, Lead Product Manager at Audinate. “Audinate has built one of the most trusted and widely adopted platforms in professional AV, and we’re proud to support the launch of these new Dante AVIO Install adapters in the U.S. market,” said Steve Kawasaki, Business Management Director for Audio Solutions at Midwich. “These new models give integrators even more flexibility and efficiency for installed audio projects.”

VITEC and LG to deliver large-scale IPTV and digital signage
VITEC has partnered with LG Electronics to deliver IPTV and digital signage over private 5G networks. The strategic alliance, which pairs VITEC’s existing technology with LG Electronics’ private 5G network expertise, aims to deliver a “wire-like” experience for mission-critical enterprise video. The integrated technology solution is well suited to sports and entertainment venues, as well as large public venues including airports, conference centres, hotels, and casinos. It enables IPTV and digital signage to be deployed without wired connections, allowing organizations to add screens without network drops, support portable or temporary installations, and extend existing systems to new indoor and outdoor areas without requiring costly cabling. “We’re very excited to be working with LG Electronics and bringing this private 5G technology to market,” says Eli Garten, Senior Vice President, Global IPTV & Partner Solutions, VITEC. “This combined solution gives large-scale venues flexibility to deploy IPTV and digital signage without the constraints of wired infrastructure. With video applications, performance has traditionally been a limiting factor over wireless networks, but with this new integrated solution with we can now confidently deliver the same low latency streaming and reliability our customers expect from VITEC.”
Private 5G networks are purpose-built, on-site cellular networks that operate on licensed spectrum, giving organisations greater control over performance, security and reliability. Unlike Wi Fi, which operates on shared, unlicensed spectrum and can be affected by congestion or interference, private 5G networks provide a more consistent and predictable environment suited to real-time video applications. “While private 5G is already being adopted across sectors such as manufacturing, transportation and healthcare, its use for enterprise video remains at an early stage,” says Joon Sung Lee, Private 5G Head in the LG Electronics CTO’s office. “Now, together with VITEC, we are demonstrating how video can be delivered reliably over next-generation wireless networks.”
Key customer benefits of the integration of VITEC’s IPTV and digital signage platforms with LG Electronics’ endto-end private 5G solution include on-site core infrastructure, distributed antennas, and centralised management software. A further advantage of private 5G is improved coverage, particularly in large or complex environments. Compared with Wi Fi, the technology offers greater range and improved penetration through walls and structures, making it well suited to environments that combine indoor and outdoor spaces. The solution has undergone extensive testing and is based on the integration of two existing, commercially available technologies. VITEC and LG Electronics aim to accelerate adoption by demonstrating how IPTV and digital signage systems can operate seamlessly over private 5G, enabling more flexible and scalable AV deployments.

ClickShare Hub adds wireless BYOD
Barco has announced the launch of Wireless Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for ClickShare Hub, their modular video conferencing room system. With Wireless BYOD, users can run a Zoom, Webex, or Google Meet call from their own laptop in a room system, while using the room’s display, camera, microphone, and speakers. This allows organizations to start meetings from the video conferencing platform of their choice in a room system setup. Organisations standardise on room systems for security, consistency, and ease of use. However, hybrid work is rarely predictable. In day-to-day work, meeting invites may be scheduled on Zoom, Webex, or Google Meet. The reserved room may be unexpectedly unavailable, requiring a quick switch to another space. External guests may need to host from their own laptop. These scenarios can create delays, improvised setups, and unnecessary support requests.
Wireless BYOD for ClickShare Hub is designed to address these common situations. Employees and guests simply plug the next-gen ClickShare Button into their laptop to connect automatically to the room’s display, camera, microphone, and speakers – then start the meeting from their laptop. This enables meetings to run on the required platform while maintaining a consistent in-room experience, including wireless content sharing. For IT managers and integrators, Wireless BYOD can be enabled in a room system without additional room reconfiguration or extra wiring. It provides a standardised solution for common realities, including platform mismatches, last-minute room switches, and guest-led meetings, helping reduce urgent tickets and avoidable escalations. Wireless BYOD does not require new end-user hardware beyond the ClickShare Button already used for ClickShare experiences. “Room systems provide a standard for many organisations because they deliver a consistent, secure experience at scale,” said Jan van Houtte, Executive Vice President, Meeting Experience at Barco. “With Wireless BYOD for ClickShare Hub, Barco takes an important step in our strat-
egy to make meeting rooms more flexible, yet simple and secure, so people can collaborate with confidence in any situation.”

D-Tools Cloud debuts inventory asset management
D-Tools, Inc has announced the launch of Inventory Asset Management in D-Tools Cloud, giving integrators complete visibility into individual physical assets throughout the project lifecycle, from receiving and warehouse management through installation and ongoing service. The new feature set moves D-Tools Cloud from count-based stock management to true per-unit asset tracking, giving every physical item its own digital
identity, including serial number, warehouse location, project assignment, actual unit cost, firmware version, MAC and IP addresses, and a complete asset history. Where traditional inventory systems aggregate items into product totals, D-Tools Cloud now tracks the exact unit. The feature is built for AV professionals who need to know exactly which unit is on which shelf, allocated to which room, installed at which customer’s home, and still under warranty on which P.O., unifying four previously fragmented workflows (warehouse intake, project allocation, field installation, and post-install service) under a single per-asset data model. “Our customers have been asking for better visibility into the physical assets moving through their business,” said G Paul Hess, CEO of D-Tools. “Inventory Asset Management gives integrators the ability to track individual devices throughout their entire lifecycle inside the same D-Tools Cloud platform they already use every day. This improves accountability, simplifies service workflows, strengthens inventory control, and helps integrators make better operational decisions.”
Key features of the product include:
•Unit-level asset tracking — Track every physical item individually with its own unique ID, serial number, warehouse location, project assignment, scheduled date, received date, unit cost, firmware version, MAC and IP fields, and full asset history.
•QR labels and serial number linking — Generate QR labels directly from D-Tools Cloud and associate assets with manufacturer serial numbers for accurate physical-to-digital tracking. Custom label fields, batch printing, and print history simplify asset management at scale.
•Barcode-driven workflows — Use barcode scanning to receive inventory against purchase orders, move equipment between warehouse locations, allocate devices to projects, and quickly identify installed assets. Batch workflows allow teams to process multiple assets in seconds.
•True per-unit cost capture — Capture actual cost at the time inventory is received, providing more accurate job costing, margin analysis, warranty tracking, and reporting throughout the asset lifecycle.
•Unit-specific project allocation — Assign specific devices to individual rooms, systems, and customer locations instead of simply allocating quantities. Service teams can quickly identify the exact unit installed at a customer site.
•Complete asset audit trail — Every asset change is logged, including who made the change, when it occurred, and what information was updated. Immutable tracking identifiers preserve the full history of each asset over time.
•Asset-level notes and service history — Store detailed installation notes, firmware updates, repair history, calibration information, and customer-specific details directly within each asset record, giving technicians immediate access to important service information.
•Bulk asset management — Edit, move, allocate, and reprint labels for multiple assets simultaneously through streamlined grid-based workflows designed to improve warehouse efficiency.
Inventory Asset Management helps integration firms improve operational efficiency, reduce costly errors, and strengthen long-term service capabilities across the business:
•Faster warranty and RMA resolution — the exact unit, P.O., and install date are one click away.
•Precise service history — every device gets its own repair, firmware, calibration, and maintenance record, so service calls dispatch with the actual history of the unit on the wall.
•Accurate job costing — true per-unit cost capture replaces catalog averages with the actual cost paid for each asset, improving COGS and margin tracking.
•Faster warehouse operations — barcode workflows compress receiving, allocation, and warehouse moves from minutes to seconds per item.
•Compliance and chain-of-custody — a complete audit trail satisfies regulatory, insurance, and audit requirements without bolting on a second system.
• Loss prevention and accountability — serialized trcking makes theft, swaps, and ghost inventory harder to hide, and integrators always know who has what.
•Smarter forecasting and upsell — visibility into installed components surface bad batches, high-failure units, and future upgrade opportunities based on new product introductions.
Inventory Asset Management extends the operational capabilities of D-Tools Cloud beyond quoting and project management into full asset lifecycle tracking. The feature set is particularly valuable for integration firms managing:
•Warranty and RMA workflows by serial number
•Large-scale warehouse operations
•ervice calls that need to identify the exact unit installed
•Compliance, audit, or chain-of-custody requirements
•Detailed project costing and profitability analysis
•Long-term customer asset management
Inventory Asset Management is now available in D-Tools Cloud. The feature entered beta with the May 14, 2026 release and is currently rolling out for general availability. QR labels launch with PDF output support, with direct Brother and Zebra printer integrations planned for future releases.

Proton unveils PROTON LS camera
PROTON Camera Innovations GmbH has announced the launch of the PROTON LS, a miniature broadcast camera housed in a cylindrical lipstick-style chassis designed for the most demanding wearable and on-vehicle applications. The PROTON LS is built around a 1/3inch global shutter sensor, delivering high 12-bit dynamic 1080p capture with full HDR compliance across HLG, PQ, and S-Log3 gamma curves. Unlike rolling shutter sensors, which can introduce wobble or skew during high-speed movement or vibration, the global shutter reads the entire frame simultaneously. Furthermore, with an IP67 weather-sealed housing measuring just 19mm in diameter and 58mm in length, and weighing approximately 50 grams including cable, the PROTON LS can be mounted almost anywhere, without the need for a specialist mount.
Operating across a 4V-22V range with a total power draw of just 2.5W, the LS integrates discreetly into existing broadcast workflows without demanding additional power infrastructure. Multiple protected lens options will be available, allowing users to tailor the field of view to their specific application. All of these factors combine to make the PROTON LS ideal in rugged, fast-paced, outdoor conditions, and the camera has just successfully completed its first round of Tier One deployments, where it was used in two of the biggest rally sport events of the calendar. The production teams involved praised the camera for its ability to bring audiences right down into the action, with grille and roll-cage mounting giving both low-angle and driver’s eye viewpoints, immersing viewers in the mud-spattered, precision-cornering, high-octane speed of the race.
But applications are not limited to motorsports. Like all PROTON cameras, the design of the PROTON LS - not just in terms of miniaturisation and form-factor, but in terms of the technology embedded within - means it can be flexibly applied in a wide range of contexts. In particular, the LS’ low thermal output means it is particularly suitable for above-ear mounting, meaning it can be mounted on referees or even athletes, and deliv-
ers perfect POV shots without inconvenience to the wearer. The PROTON LS joins a growing range of miniature broadcast cameras from Proton, all of which leverage the company’s core competency in miniaturisation but offer distinct feature permutations so that users can match the camera precisely to their application. The result is an ecosystem where the only limitation is creative imagination.
This includes PROTON CAM – the smallest broadcast-grade camera on the market, the PROTON 4K for ultra-HD capture, the PROTON ZOOM with integrated variable focal length lens, the PROTON RAIN with full weather sealing, the PROTON FLEX and 4K FLEX, which separate the lens head from the processing unit via a flexible cable, and thus allow for deployments in the tightest of spaces (as well as increasing use in major cinema-driven 3D deployments), and the PROTON PRO, with 2/3-inch global shutter sensor, integrated Genlock, audio input, aux control, and a C-mount lens interface all in a ready-to-deploy package. Marko Ho-
peken, CEO of PROTON Camera Innovations, said: “The PROTON LS is the perfect addition to our expanding line-up. Across the entire range, common threads persist: broadcast-grade image quality, robust engineering, and the flexibility to be deployed in locations that conventional cameras cannot reach. From tennis nets and goal frames to drone undercarriages and helmet visors, PROTON cameras have become a quiet fixture across the world’s most demanding sports productions”. He continued: “The LS is the latest piece in a broader strategy. We are building a family of miniature broadcast cameras, each optimised for different deployments, whilst remaining flexible and adaptable across a broad range of contexts, and all sharing the same DNA of exceptional image quality and rugged reliability. Whether a production team needs the ultra-compact PROTON CAM, the weather-sealed RAIN, the flexible FLEX, the all-in-one PRO, or now the lipstick-shaped LS, they can choose the right tool for the job. The only limitation is their creativity”.

Unleashing the next evolution of display performance, both technologies are designed and manufactured with a proprietary process exclusively from Planar. “Planar has long been a proven technology pioneer and has an unmatched history of bringing groundbreaking technologies to market,” said Sidney Rittenberg, Chief Executive Officer at Planar. “Today, this continues with the release of our new proprietary EverPixel and TruMicro technologies, driving the most advanced MIP development and delivering the next LED technology surpassing COB.”
Building on the MicroLED in Package (MIP) architecture and working in combination with Planar’s TruMicro, EverPixel technology eliminates the LED substrate and delivers manufacturing efficiency through fewer parts, processes and components. Exclusively from Planar, the technology doubles the number of red, green and blue (RGB) subpixels, providing a solution with built-in redundancy that effectively eliminates the concern of pixel outages and powers everlasting LED performance. By soldering the chip electrode directly to the LED package, Planar delivers unmatched reliability, eliminating the risks of wire breakage or poor contact found in traditional gold and copper wire bonding. The light output surface eliminates metal occlusion to unlock five-sided light output. This drastically increases light efficiency and opens up ultra-wide viewing angles free from colour distortion or dimming.
The performance of Planar’s proprietary TruMicro LED technology exceeds that of any visual technology available today by introducing LED RGB subpixels that are remarkably smaller. Comprising MicroLED subpixels as small as 20 micrometres (μm), and reducing height and positioning the subpixels tightly together, TruMicro improves the uniformity of mixing and delicacy of colour blending, nearly eliminating colour separation or colour
shift concerns. It also enables enormously enhanced viewing angles. Together, these innovations ensure optimal chip performance at the packaging level by mounting substrate-free, common-cathode RGB flip chips. Through advanced mass transfer soldering directly onto the packaging substrate, Planar achieves exceptional subpixel accuracy. By controlling chip offset to within 2μm, the spacing between subpixels is greatly reduced, resulting in a more seamless, high-resolution visual quality.
Planar’s TruMicro features the well-established, quality-control practice of binning LEDs. This process, which leverages a larger quantity of units and can continue to grow over time, achieves remarkable brightness and colour uniformity. Together, EverPixel and TruMicro technologies fit into an extremely small package with the capability to support pixel pitches smaller than 0.4 millimetres.

Already established as one of the leading projector choices for golf simulation enthusiasts, Optoma’s latest line-up reinforces its commitment to the category with purpose-built models that deliver the brightness, accuracy and installation flexibility needed to create more immersive virtual golf experiences.
Optoma has expanded its short-throw projection range with the GT2200HDR, ZH521ST, UHZ36STe and ZK521ST, four compact models built to support immersive golf simulation, flexible installation and high-impact viewing in everyday spaces. As golf simulation continues to move from specialist venues into homes, training studios and multi-use commercial spaces, installers and consumers need projection technology that can deliver bright, accurate and dependable images from close range. Optoma’s latest short-throw line-up responds to that demand with high brightness, compact form factors, long-life light sources and installation features designed for real-world environments.
The GT2200HDR offers a bright Full HD 4LED option for users looking for a compact, energy-efficient projector for golf, gaming, sports, and home entertainment. Unlike many short-throw projectors that use a fixed lens, the GT2200HDR features a 1.2x zoom lens and 0.69–0.82:1 throw ratio, giving installers added flexibility when positioning the projector and fine-tuning the image to suit different room layouts. The ZH521ST steps up performance with 5300 lumens, Full HD DuraCore laser technology and IP6X certification, while the UHZ36ST (4000 lumens) and ZK521ST (5000 lumens) bring True 4K UHD detail, with HDR and HLG compatibility to more demanding simulation and pro-
fessional applications. The UHZ36STe features a purpose-built 0.496:1 throw ratio and dedicated golf sim picture modes. These modes deliver lifelike greens and blues with impressive detail, even in well-lit environments, and are carefully tuned to provide optimal colour grading for golf simulation setups.
For golf simulation, the ZH521ST & ZK521ST have been enhanced with a purpose-built 0.79:1 throw ratio and curated golf sim picture modes. Optoma has also worked closely with colour experts at GSPro to develop a dedicated GSPro mode, helping create a more immersive and true-to-life playing experience for virtual fairways, greens and practice environments. Short-throw projection is central to the range. By allowing large images from close to the screen or wall, each model helps reduce shadows and supports more practical installation in smaller rooms, simulator bays and shared spaces. The ZH521ST, UHZ36STe and ZK521ST also support 360-degree and portrait projection, giving installers greater flexibility when designing golf simulation environments or multi-purpose AV systems.
Alongside performance, Optoma has prioritised sustainability and ease of ownership. The GT2200HDR uses efficient 4LED technology, while the ZH521ST, UHZ36STe and ZK521ST feature DuraCore laser light sources for up to 30,000 hours of operation without the need for additional lamps. Each model is designed to
reduce power consumption compared to lamp-based projectors, while offering the reliability required for regular use. Control and management are also built in. The Optoma Smart Control App gives users the flexibility to power devices on and off, adjust volume, set display modes and make image corrections from a mobile device. For professional environments, the ZH521ST and ZK521ST also support Optoma Management Suite, enabling remote monitoring, scheduling and control to help reduce downtime and streamline operation.
With this expanded line-up, Optoma is addressing a growing need for projectors that can support entertainment, sport and simulation with the brightness, flexibility and reliability expected from modern projection. From entry-level Full HD 4LED performance to high-brightness Full HD laser and True 4K UHD laser projection, the GT2200HDR, ZH521ST, UHZ36STe and ZK521ST give users a choice of solutions for creating more convincing, practical and engaging golf simulation spaces.
Xilica introduces Dynamic Voice Lift in Designer v4.12
Xilica has announced the release of Dynamic Voice Lift, a new feature in Xilica Designer v4.12 that brings adaptive speech reinforcement to large meeting spaces, classrooms, and auditoria. Traditionally, voice lift systems rely on fixed speaking positions or multi-zone microphone outputs to deliver consistent audio reinforcement. Dynamic Voice Lift removes these limitations. With Dynamic Voice Lift, Xilica systems automatically adapt in real time to the position of the active speaker— enabling clear, balanced speech reinforcement across the room, even when using single-output ceiling microphones such as the Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling Medium and Sennheiser TeamConnect Ceiling. This allows integrators to deliver spatially aware voice lift performance without requiring complex zoning or additional hardware.
Dynamic Voice Lift supports environments where conversations move naturally around the room, including:
•Large boardrooms with distributed seating
•Classrooms with both instructor-led and student participation
•Flexible spaces used for presentations, discussions, and workshops
Key benefits include:
•Clearer speech, everywhere – consistent intelligibility regardless of speaker location
•More inclusive communication – every participant is heard equally
•Zero user effort – no need to stand in specific locations or switch presets
•Greater room flexibility – one setup supports multiple use cases
Dynamic Voice Lift extends advanced voice lift capabilities to a wider range of microphone systems, simplifying deployment while improving the user experience. The feature is available now in Xilica Designer v4.12.
AV and innovation in the theatre
Theatrical performances are increasingly dependent on AV technology for storytelling, special effects and immersion to enhance the audience experience. The AV fundamentals of immersion, interactivity, and intelligent automation are being adopted in theatres, whereas, at one time these tools were the exclusive preserve of concerts and large-scale events. The result is a shift toward productions that feel more cinematic, responsive, and spatially fluid. But to some, even the introduction of amplification to Shakespear’s Globe is tantamount to Bob Dylan ‘going electric’. Here are some of the trends we have picked up on and some of the reactions.
‘Theatre’ describes a collaborative performing art that uses live performers, to present experiences of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, usually a stage. Traditionally, performers communicate this experience to an audience through combinations of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance. But today, these physical human skills are often supplemented by a bunch of AV technologies which set these performances in context, add additional layers of understanding and increase the accessibility of the performance.
Enhancing visual environmments
Immersive visual environments are created with high resolution LED walls, curved LED structures, and large scale projection mapping, all of which are now core storytelling tools in theatre. They replace traditional static scenery with dynamic, reactive environments that can shift instantly from one location to another. Hybrid once again is a notable trend with productions blending phys-
ical sets with digital content to create scenic worlds, while allowing real time scene changes, 360° scenic immersion and cinematic realism and stylised digital worlds.
For reasons of both extending the nature and functionality and at the same time addressing the economics and sustainability of theatre, AV is no longer an ‘add on’, it is embedded into the scenic language from the start. Production design lighting palettes, motion graphics, and projection content are used as part of the drama. These developments are driving change in the workflow of theatre. Scenic, lighting, and video teams collaborate earlier than in the past. Sets are designed to look good both live and on camera, particularly when productions are to be streamed.
AV technologies can even be used to create a theatre space form structures built for an entirely different purpose. For example, the transformational quality of AV technology in the theatre, Brompton Technology’s Tessera LED video processors have been deployed in the portrayal of a dystopian future in ‘Oscar At The Crown’.
This is an innovative theatrical experience running in a converted basement venue beneath London’s Tottenham Court Road. The production showcases how advanced LED processing technology can transform intimate spaces into powerful storytelling environments. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where climate change has torn society apart, ‘Oscar At The Crown’ follows a group of people exiled for their libertarian views. They have found refuge in a disused underground bunker that once served as a bar. To maintain their sanity and spirits, they perform a nightly musical celebration of Oscar Wilde, reimagined for the modern era with rock music and unbridled expression.
The production utilises a Brompton 4K Tessera SX40 LED video processor paired with a Tessera XD 10G data distribution unit and redundancy system, all supplied and supported by Stage Sound Services. The centrepiece is a 10m by 2m INFiLED AR series 2.97mm pixel pitch LED wall, concealed behind a two-way mirror that dramatically reveals itself during key moments of the show. The narrative weaves together themes of free expression and survival, with an unexpected focus on Julie Cooper from ‘The OC’, who the characters believe predicted humanity’s downfall through social media, noting that Twitter and ‘The OC’ launched on the same day. The LED screen displays live camera feeds so audience members at the bar can watch the performance, graphics for post-show DJ sets and animated content synchronised to performers’ voguing movements.
Sustainability in the theatre
New workflows have an additional benefit - sustainability can now be integral to the process. By 2025, 60% of venues were expected to adopt sustainable theatre practices, including energy efficient lighting, modular LED systems, and reduced waste scenic design. As the use of AV becomes increasingly sophisticated, these technologies are reshaping theatrical storytelling. New technologies also expand the visual vocabulary of stage-
craft. They allow rapid scene transitions without physical set changes, making productions more tour friendly and scalable. What’s more, the addition of AV to theatre enables modern audience expectations - shaped by film, gaming, and immersive art – to be met and even exceeded by enhancing accessibility (with captioning, translation and sensory immersion).
Nowhere is this more apparent than in productions for younger theatregoers. ‘Paddington: The Musical’ was planned to deliver a richly immersive theatrical experience, bringing the beloved character’s world to life through detailed scenic environments and visual storytelling. However, achieving this within a historic London theatre presented significant challenges. The production required full scenic video coverage across multiple architectural surfaces, including moving and flown set pieces, while ensuring that projection technology remained completely invisible to the audience.
At the same time, the system had to withstand the stringent realities of live theatre: tight rehearsal schedules, overnight maintenance windows, and the expectation of flawless performance in each and every show.
Panasonic projectors were selected to deliver the required brightness, colour fidelity, and reliability without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the space. A combination of Panasonic RQ35 and RQ25 series projectors was integrated into the venue. The selected solution balanced high-output performance with compact form factors and quiet operation, enabling projectors to be positioned front-of-house and above the audience without drawing attention. The projectors were complimented by a dedicated LED display, a rare hybrid approach that required precise planning and tuning. The result was a projection system capable of delivering large-scale scenic imagery that blended seamlessly into the physical set, supporting the narrative rather than competing with it. Projection was planned to enhance the unique production style, in which video was treated from the beginning as a core storytelling tool rather than a merely decorative layer.
The use of AV technology enables classic tales to be reimagined in more immersive formats. When Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory first delighted readers in 1964, few could have imagined the scale of

theatrical spectacle it would inspire decades later. Today, the Asia touring production, directed brings Roald Dahl’s fantastical world to audiences across Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manila, Seoul and beyond. It is a rare gift to be able to return to a beloved and familiar project like this and be given the opportunity to reimagine it,” says Matt Lenz, director of the Asia touring production. “I wanted this production to be even more magical and more visually engaging than ever before. I wanted the show, like Willy’s factory, to be surprising at every turn and to take the audience on a journey of imagination.”
Designing a production of this scale for an international tour presents a unique challenge. How do you preserve the visual magic and storytelling precision of a Broadway show while adapting to constantly changing venues, sightlines and technical constraints? For this global tour, the answer lay in reimagining the show’s visual language from the ground up, all centred around INFiLED’s AR Series LED panels. Earlier iterations of the production relied heavily on projection mapping and 9 mm pitch LED walls. While effective at the time, those technical limitations shaped the aesthetic in restrictive ways. “Projection was used to differentiate the various rooms of the chocolate factory with lots of shadow work and delicate accentuations of the scenic piece,” says Jeff Sugg, video and projections designer. Resolution constraints proved limiting: “The aesthetic was bound by the fact that the walls were a 9 mm pitch,” Sugg states. “As a result, it was imperative that the content didn’t lean on gradients or soft edges within the fades and design structure.”
For the global tour, the creative team, which includes Sugg, the video system designer and lead integrator from Stage Sound Services of Cardiff, Wales. The system needed to support large-scale spectacle, while also delivering intimate, nuanced storytelling moments. Crucially, it also had to be entirely roadworthy. The production introduced 136 INFiLED AR Series panels, forming a 7.5 x 6 metre main LED back wall and two automated tracking sliders, each measuring 2.5 x 6 metres. The
INFiLED AR Series (now upgraded to the ARmk2 Series) was selected for its fine 2.9 mm pixel pitch, lightweight cabinet design and flexible installation system. Panels can be stacked to big heights while retaining stability, curved up to 10 degrees and accessed from both front and rear for efficient maintenance.
Theatre sound enhancements
Advanced audio technology has also been adopted by theatre in efforts to make theatre more engaging and immersive. For example, spatial audio has moved from concerts into theatrical venues. Audiences now expect sound that moves around them, placing them inside the narrative. This includes object based audio, 360° sound fields, and location aware speaker arrays. These advances support hyper realistic environments (e.g. storms or crowds), character specific audio localization and more emotional, enveloping sound design.
As an example of innovative sound design, the staging
of ‘The Rise’, a new large-scale production from choreographer, composer and director Romain Rachline Borgeaud and his RB Dance Company, at the Dôme de Paris. The production plunges 34 dancer-vocalists into a post-apocalyptic world with a kinetic multi-level set of trapdoors and moving platforms. The score ranges from industrial percussion to symphonic orchestration and blues-rock. The set design has no room for traditional speaker towers on either side of the stage. The production demands a sound system that can separate every layer without reaching uncomfortable levels in a sealed arena. The sound designer, Jaï Louvet, proposed an L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound solution.
The design process began in a studio environment, developing the L-ISA pre-encoding workflow on a smaller rig of X8 and KS21 speakers. When the system moved to the full L2-based rig at the Dôme de Paris, everything translated: the pre-mixed sessions behaved in the large room exactly as they had in the studio. Soundvision was used to model L-ISA coverage across the Dôme – a circular arena with no straight sightlines
– confirming that 88% of seats would receive consistent level and tonal balance across all five hangs, with 98.8% of the audience within useful coverage.
The impact of AV technology in the theatre is often disguised or concealed to reduce its impact on a traditional environment. Shakespeare’s Globe is one of the most acoustically and architecturally singular performance spaces on earth. A meticulous reconstruction of the open-air Elizabethan playhouse where Shakespeare himself premiered Hamlet, Julius Caesar and King Lear, it is built from English oak using 16th-century mortise and tenon joinery. And it holds the distinction of being the only building in London permitted to have a thatched roof since the Great Fire of 1666. Its circular structure wraps the audience on three sides around a wide, thrust stage, with 600 standing audience ‘Groundlings’ in the open pit and 1,000 seated in the three tiers of gallery seating rising steeply above them, with the closest boxes barely metres from the actors. It is a space designed from the outset for the unaided human voice. The intimacy and acoustic directness of the design are treated as fundamental to the experience of Shakespeare’s theatre.
At the end of last year, the Globe staged a brand-new musical, Pinocchio, as part of its festive season run in the open-air theatre. This production was aimed at families, and Pinocchio’s creative team recognised that a live band, songs and young audience members called for temporary sound reinforcement – without changing the fabric or aesthetic of the theatre, and with respect to the unique Globe audience experience. Amplification has been used across the years of the Globe’s history, especially for special events such as music gigs, comedy shows and poetry events, but as one of the last-remaining unamplified theatres, the Globe is proud to champion the power of the unamplified human voice across its year-round activity. However, a musical during winter in the open-air presented real challenges for ensuring they produced a world-class experience for families coming to the theatre. The solution had to be transparent, with sound that audiences would feel rather
than notice. L-ISA Hyperreal’s object-based spatial audio distributes individual sound sources across a multi-array configuration to align what audiences hear with what they see on stage, making that level of naturalness achievable. Any sound design would need to earn its place without drawing attention to itself. How did the installers achieve the objective of an example audio solution? The most distinctive element of the design was the spatial fill system deployed across the theatre’s gallery boxes!
With slightly less challenging constraints, the City Springs Theatre Company, based in Sandy Springs, Georgia, mounts four large-scale Broadway-style musicals each year. Each production is staged at the Byers Theatre within the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Centre - a 1070-seat venue requiring the production team to “build the show house” from the ground up each time. Producing The Wizard of Oz posed both artistic and logistical challenges. The load-in period was just over a week, half the normal time. From a creative standpoint, the show demanded sonic storytelling that could balance orchestral grandeur, environmental effects and vocal clarity. The biggest challenge was providing clarity to cacophonous moments. During the tornado sequence, for example, “we have to be swallowed by this tornado... but we also have to hear the orchestrations clearly.” Achieving that clarity required precision control of placement, movement, and intelligibility -made possible only through a robust, flexible Dante infrastructure connecting every piece of gear digitally. The Wizard of Oz sound design hinged on a TiMax-based spatial audio system. The TiMax SoundHub processor and D4 tracking system create delay-based spatialisation - placing each performer’s voice in its physical onstage location with near-millimetre accuracy. Audience members and colleagues alike noted the crystal-clear intelligibility and spatial realism. “It sounds better than some Broadway shows,” one member of the team commented. Others praised that they “understood more of the words in your shows there than I do in a Broadway show generally.” This reaction wasn’t just about volume or clarity; it was about how the sound occupied the theatre space, enveloping the audience in a fully immersive experience. In the company’s earlier years, sound was the area that needed the most improvement.
Emerging theatre technologies
Cutting-edge AV applications in theatre now include the use of VR & AR to enhance productions. Perhaps inevitably, AI is becoming a backbone of live event production, and theatre is adopting similar workflows. AI tools now support automated captioning and translation, real time content generation. predictive audience analytics, intelligent lighting and camera tracking - and even per-
sonalised or adaptive performance and plot elements. AI powered personalisation has been shown to increase audience satisfaction by up to 40% in live event contexts, and theatres are beginning to explore adaptive experiences.
Theatre is increasingly blending physical and digital participation in hybrid productions. This includes interactive screens and touch responsive scenic elements, audience driven narrative branches and Integrated social media ready environments. The concept of hybrid digital and in person performances is combined in streamed performances to expand audiences. Hybrid formats are now a strategic differentiator for performing arts organisations competing with digital-only platforms.
Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR / VR) and are beginning to influence how consumers think about enter-
tainment and performance. These technologies are versatile and can be used both to enhance the consumer’s experience without altering the essence of theatrical representation or to completely transform performances compared to classical theatre. The concept of Augmented Reality was first introduced in 1992, but the real breakthrough came between 2010 and 2015, with the advent of VR headsets. In 2015, Microsoft’s HoloLens introduced the ability to overlay virtual objects onto the real world, fostering new experimentation. In the same year, a platform called The Void was launched, becoming popular thanks to hyper-real experiences that combined virtual reality with interactive physical environments. The COVID-19 pandemic provided a strong push for the adoption of immersive technology, forcing theatres worldwide through necessity to experiment with digital formats and virtual experiences.
The immersive technology market is expanding, driven by sectors such as entertainment, education, healthcare, and business. In 2023, the value of the immersive technology market was $29.13 billion, and future projections indicate it will reach $134 billion by 2030, with an annual growth rate of over 25%. In live events and theatre these technologies have increasingly been used. AI is being used to shape VR and AR experiences which enhance interactions and make them more accessible and natural. As smart glasses, and even the latest generations of headsets, become more powerful and lighter, their adoption is less problematic for users in the theatre world. The deployment of XR technologies in entertainment is becoming societally commonplace. And it could be happening faster than you think – in the UK, The National Theatre, in collaboration with Accenture and a team of speech and language experts led by Professor Andrew Lambourne, has developed “smart caption glasses” solution as part of their accessibility program for their theatrical performances. First trials of ‘smart caption glasses’ were held in 2018!
L-Acoustics L-ISA immerses audiences in ‘The Rise’
In the New Republic, the workers are underground and the revolution is coming. ‘The Rise’, the new large-scale production from choreographer, composer and director Romain Rachline Borgeaud and his RB Dance Company, plunges 34 dancer-vocalists into that world - a post-apocalyptic musical staged in English, with a kinetic multi-level set of trapdoors and moving platforms and a score that ranges from industrial percussion to symphonic orchestration to blues-rock. The production is designed specifically for Zénith-format venues seating 4,000 to 6,000 and premiered at the Dôme de Paris in April 2026, selling ten dates. It returns for a full Paris season in March 2027 and a national Zénith tour that autumn.
A production built around a kinetic, multi-level set has no room for speaker towers on either side of the stage. And a score this dense, with 34 live voices stacked over pre-recorded beds, demands a sound system that can separate every layer without pushing the SPL to uncomfortable levels in a sealed arena. RB Productions brought in lead FOH engineer Arnaud Bayssat and system engineer Pierre-Louis Charles, assisted by Jaï Louvet who did the original system design, who together proposed an L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound solution. Bayssat has worked with L-Acoustics for nearly two decades. “For musical theatre formats that require high definition at contained acoustic levels, I have always been drawn instinctively to L-Acoustics,” he explains. “For ‘The Rise’, L-ISA became an obvious choice because it offered a different approach to speaker placement, a better fit with the stage design, and above all the unmasking capability I needed to handle such a dense mix.”
Bayssat began the design process in a studio environment, developing the L-ISA pre-encoding workflow on a smaller rig of X8 and KS21 speakers. When the system moved to the full L2-based rig at the Dôme de Paris, everything translated: the pre-mixed sessions behaved
in the large room exactly as they had in the studio. Charles used Soundvision to model L-ISA coverage across the Dôme – a circular arena with no straight sightlines – confirming that 88% of seats would receive consistent level and tonal balance across all five hangs, with 98.8% of the audience within useful coverage. “At first I was a bit sceptical that the coverage we simulated in the studio would translate to the venue,” admits Charles, “but it actually performed even better than I had imagined.” Soundvision also calculated the system’s total weight and rigging load, an essential given the volume of flown scenery and machinery already competing for points above the stage.
The L-ISA Scene system at the Dôme de Paris is built around five hangs, each comprising one L2 and one L2D, with six KS28 subwoofers in cardioid configuration flown centrally. Fifteen 5XT loudspeakers provide spatial fill; two pole-mounted X15 HiQ serve as out-fills, with two further L2D available as flown out-fills for wider venues. These are deployed in 70° configuration via Panflex and the supercardioid preset to preserve L-ISA
perception and minimise interaction with the Scene system. Four X12 for stage announce; eight 5XT cover backstage; a pair of X4i and X12 handle special effects on stage. At FOH, an L-ISA Processor II handles all real-time object-based audio rendering, alongside a P1 Processor for system tuning and LA Network Manager on a dedicated Mac Mini. The amplification network of 14 LA7.16, five LA12X and four LA4X amplified controllers runs on a fully redundant Milan-AVB network via 14 LS10 switches. All amplifiers are flown alongside the Scene system to minimise cable runs, and all hangs except the out-fills are rigged with CLAMP-1000. Throughout the project, L-Acoustics Application Project Engineer Jean-Charles Schmid was present from first design conversations, including an introductory visit to the Marcoussis campus, through to the final show, providing regular technical reviews and optimisations at each stage. “Jean-Charles was an absolutely perfect support throughout, from design to pre-encoding to the big room,” reflects Bayssat. “We are really enriched by those exchanges.” The production ran with no stage
monitors at all, a decision taken to protect the live vocal recordings and eliminate stage spill, made possible by the tight directivity of the L2, which left stage and backstage areas virtually silent. Far from creating problems, the quiet stage was welcomed by the technical crew managing concentration-critical tasks in the wings. The audience noticed: “It is rare for people to talk about the sound at a show,” observes Bayssat. “We were surprised to have people mentioning it – to say it was good.” The system logged no failures across the entire residency. And for Bayssat, the defining moment came earlier: the first rehearsal in which all 32 singers performed together on the full L-ISA rig. “It worked far better than I could have imagined,” he says. “It was fabulous.”
The April 2026 run sold its ten dates at the Dôme de Paris, and The Rise returns for a full Paris season from March 2027 and a national Zénith tour that autumn. The team is already working on truss adaptations to make the touring rig faster to load in. For Bayssat, the message to any engineer considering L-ISA is direct: “Don’t be afraid of it. Invest in the training, absorb the fundamentals. And then it becomes a genuine gamechanger.”

Alfalite brings its LED technology to iconic Teatro Monumental
Alfalite has completed a new broadcast installation with the deployment of two UHD Finepix 1.5 MATIX AlfaCOB LED displays at RTVE’s Teatro Monumental in Madrid (Spain). The project was supplied and integrated by BroadService, Alfalite’s technology partner specialising in professional audiovisual solutions. RTVE, Spain’s national public broadcaster, operates some of the country’s most important television, radio and cultural productions. Teatro Monumental is one of its key venues in Madrid and the home of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir. The theatre also hosts live music productions, television recordings, special broadcasts and corporate events, making it a demanding environment where performance, broadcast quality and day-to-day technical reliability must work together. The installation equips the historic venue with two 3.00 x 1.69-metre LED displays positioned on either side of the main stage. Designed to meet the requirements of both television production and stage use, the new visual surfaces allow RTVE to incorporate graphics, visual identities, live feeds, text and audiovisual content into concerts, special programmes and corporate events.
As the regular home of the RTVE Symphony Orchestra and Choir, as well as productions such as Las Noches del Monumental, RTVE’s live music series recorded at the venue, and other formats recorded or broadcast live, Teatro Monumental required a solution capable of integrating naturally into a setting where artistic performance, television production and continuous technical operation coexist. The Alfalite displays meet demanding broadcast specifications aimed at ensuring a clean on-camera image, free from flicker and visual artefacts, with high colour uniformity, wide viewing angles, full front maintenance and silent operation — all key factors in stage and television environments.
Each display offers Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a 16:9 format, with a 1.5 mm pixel pitch, combining high visual density with precise image reproduction even at short viewing distances. The system features a 7,680 Hz refresh rate, brightness of up to 1,500 nits, a 20,000:1 contrast ratio and wide colour coverage, parameters that are especially relevant for clean camera capture without flicker, moiré or other common artefacts in broadcast environments. The installation was also designed for discreet architectural integration, with the displays flush-mounted into the side cladding of the stage area and with a very reduced overall depth. Full front access simplifies technical interventions without the need for rear access, a significant advantage in permanent installations where operational uptime is essential.
Another aspect particularly valued by RTVE was the silent, fanless operation of the system — an essential feature for symphonic concerts, music recordings and
live broadcasts where any mechanical noise could interfere with the acoustic experience. “RTVE had very specific requirements for this installation: excellent on-camera performance, discreet integration into the stage environment and maximum reliability for continuous use. Meeting that level of expectation in a venue such as Teatro Monumental is particularly meaningful for Alfalite,” said Luis Garrido, Executive Director of the Huelva-based company. He adds: “Teatro Monumental brings together culture, television and live events. That is precisely where our displays deliver the greatest value: when the image has to perform equally well for the audience in the venue, for the broadcast production team and for a demanding day-to-day operation.”
The RTVE project covered the supply, installation and commissioning of two high-performance LED videowalls, as well as the control electronics required for their operation and associated technical training. The speci-

fication also included requirements for intensive 24/7 operation, long service life and advanced remote management and calibration tools. With this new installation, Alfalite strengthens its presence in the broadcast market and further consolidates the use of its LED technology in theatres, auditoriums, studios and institutional spaces where visual quality and operational reliability are critical.
Bringing Bad Bunny’s vision to life
A Bad Bunny stadium tour is more than a celebration. Bad Bunny’s tour was designed to feel more like a cinematic experience than a traditional concert. At the centre of the production was a massive 135-foot-wide by 36-foot-high Black Widow AMT 3.9mm video wall, creating an expansive visual canvas that framed the entire performance like a feature film. Rather than relying on traditional broadcast-style concert cameras, Bad Bunny chose to use cinematic 4K Sony cinema cameras paired with the Black Widow AMT3.9mm, which is equipped with jet-black LED chips. This creative combination delivered deep contrast, vibrant imagery, and a far more intimate and emotional aesthetic. The result was live IMAG content with rich cinematic tones and fluid, film-like movement rarely seen in arena touring productions. The fusion of cinematic camera systems and the ultra-wide LED environment transformed the audience experience, making the show feel less like a conventional concert and more like a live documentary unfolding in real time.
Touring productions place unique demands on LED screen technology. With 57shows in over 20 countries, the Debí Tirar Más Fotos tour logistics teams needed acentrepiece LED screen that was:●Fast, easy and safe to build and strike across multiple stadia-and, of course, no two stadia are alike; ● Fast and easy to pack and unpack; ● Robust enough to withstand handling and travel by road, rail, sea or air, as well as coping with thumping vibrations from pumping basslines or the crowds of dancing feet. The visual team were looking for content flexibility without the need to change screens, such as the ability to show both high-detail and low-detail content on amassive screen without loss of clarity, as well as something that could respond to changing brightness levels without loss of color vibrancy and saturation.
It was the Production Video Group’s job to advise on and source the main stage LED screen, and the team had already seen the Black Widow AMT in action in previous shows. They knew that the Black Widow AMT was purpose-built for the rigours of touring and could be configured with solid panels for full-surface opaque visuals and mesh for something more transparent. The team designed a high-impact centrepiece screen using 462 panels from the Black Widow AMT range, a product incorporating both 3.9mm solid panels and7.8mm transparent mesh. The screen measured a whopping 42m wide by 11m high, giving a screen resolution of 10,752px by 2,816px, and, powered by a Brompton LED processor and four Disguise GX 3+ media servers. It provided a new benchmark forgenerative graphics power: a mega canvas of both scale and precision.

New York museum complex modernises Video-over-IP infrastructure
In 2026, a prominent New York City museum complex spanning 21 interconnected buildings launched a multi-year modernisation of its aging Video-over-IP environment. The initiative was designed to improve video quality across hundreds of displays and interactive kiosks in 45 exhibition halls while reducing switching costs, freeing rack space in numerous IDF closets, and limiting installation expense in a high-cost labour market. During its evaluation process, the museum’s AV leadership, led by Senior Video Engineer Thomas Lowery, identified PlexusAV as a compelling option after reviewing the platform at InfoComm 2025. The team saw that JPEGXS could deliver high-quality video with extremely low latency over a 1G network, aligning technical performance with operational efficiency goals. That assessment was reinforced through a direct comparison of PlexusAV endpoints against 10G SDVoE, which confirmed that 1G architecture could meet the museum’s requirements for high-quality, sub-frame-latency video across its displays and interactive kiosks. The result was a solution path that supported both performance needs and a more cost-efficient infrastructure model.
The museum required a modern AV-over-IP platform capable of supporting:
•Hundreds of displays, projectors and interactive kiosks
•High-quality, low-latency video performance
•Leverage existing category infrastructure
•Reduce switch-port demand and rack usage
•Lower infrastructure and installation costs
•Long-term interoperability and scalability
The organisation also wanted to avoid vendor lock-in and ensure flexibility for future exhibit requirements and deployment models.
PlexusAV’s product and engineering teams incorporated enhancements shaped by the museum’s operational requirements, including 10-point touch support for kiosks and daisy-chain functionality combining multicast video with bi-directional unicast IP control. These capabilities helped reduce switch-port demand, lower infrastructure cost, and preserve valuable rack space within the museum’s new design. Equally important, PlexusAV’s alignment with open-standards IPMX gives the museum a more interoperable, future-ready platform, enabling it to adopt best-of-breed devices rather than remain locked into a single-vendor ecosystem. That flexibility positions the organisation to scale across changing exhibit needs, display types, and deployment models over the coming years. “Modernising AV infrastructure across a complex, multi-building museum environment required a solution that could deliver uncompromised video performance while reducing operational
and infrastructure overhead,” said Thomas Lowery, the museum’s Senior Video Engineer. “PlexusAV demonstrated that a 1G JPEGXS architecture could achieve the quality, latency and scalability we needed, while also giving us the flexibility of an open standards-based ecosystem for the future.”
Jim Reinhardt. “With PlexusAV’s JPEGXS architecture and an open-standards IPMX approach, the museum was able to achieve exceptional video quality with sub-frame-latency over a cost-efficient 1G network. Just as important, an IPMX platform gives the organisation the freedom to evolve its AV ecosystem over time without being constrained to and by proprietary technology. Pretty Woman: the musical debuts d&b audiotechnik CCL system
The South African premiere of Pretty Woman: The Musical, produced by Showtime Entertainment, has officially marked the regional debut of d&b audiotechnik’s highly anticipated CL-Series, deploying the brand-new CCL compact cardioid line array system. Supplied by Cape Town-based rental premier Eastern Acoustics and supported by local distributor Stage Audio Works (SAW), the cutting-edge system has set a new benchmark for theatrical sound reinforcement in the country. Brought to South African stages by Showtime Entertainment, the high-energy musical production features a rock-infused score by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. To deliver the power, clarity, and precision required for a production of this scale, South African Sound Designer David Classen chose the d&b CCL system as the centrepiece of his audio design.
Single-channel broadband directivity control is the standout technical achievement of the CL-Series, bringing advanced low-frequency cardioid behaviour into a compact form factor. For a theatrical environment, where open lapel and headset microphones are constantly moving across the stage, this exceptional rear-rejection is a gamechanger, greatly reducing mic bleed and virtually eliminating onstage feedback. “The d&b CCL system completely transformed how we approached the sound design for Pretty Woman,” explains Sound Designer David Classen. “In musical theatre, stage spill is always the enemy. The passive cardioid behaviour of both the CCL tops and the flying CCL subwoofers kept the stage incredibly quiet. This clean stage environment gave us significantly more usable gain before feedback than we’ve ever had with a compact rig, allowing the vocals to sit effortlessly on top of the mix.”
Classen also notes the pristine acoustic performance of the system: “Beyond the raw control, the high-frequency detail in the CCL boxes is exquisite. The HF headroom is remarkable, ensuring that every piece of dialogue and subtle vocal nuance carries cleanly without a hint of distortion. Combined with d&b’s ArrayProcessing, we achieved perfectly even coverage and a consistent tonal balance throughout the entire auditorium. Whether you are sitting in the front row or the back of the balcony, the listening experience is identical.” To accommodate the venue dynamics, Eastern Acoustics specified an extensive d&b system built around the new cardioid line array modules:
• Main Left/Right Hangs: 14 x d&b CCL tops per side
• Low-Frequency Extension: 6 x d&b CCL-SUBs per side
• Fills & Centre Cluster: a curated mix of d&b V-Series and E-Series loudspeakers
d&b D25 and D80 digital amplifiers, were fully integrated into a high-speed, redundant Milan-AVB network infrastructure for pristine digital signal transport. This successful deployment of new technology sets a milestone for the local industry, highlighting the rapid adoption of international audio standards by South African creative teams, producers, and rental companies. “We are absolutely thrilled to see the latest generation of d&b audiotechnik products adopted by a South African production of this magnitude so soon after its release,” says Nathan Ihlenfeldt, CTO of Stage Audio Works. “The CL-Series represents a major technological leap, packing world-class broadband directivity control into an incredibly lightweight and efficient footprint. Showtime Entertainment has put together a world-class production, and Eastern Acoustics has done a phenomenal job deploying this system to match that same standard.”
For more than 15 years, TDC - Technical Direction Company - has helped bring Vivid Sydney’s biggest artworks to life through unforgettable large-scale projection and technology experiences for millions of Sydneysiders and visitors. At Vivid Sydney 2026, as well as powering 11 installations with the most advanced projection and LED display technology, the company stepped into the spotlight itself with The Daydream Machine, an AI-powered interactive installation by creative technologist Harrison Dow, Alex Rendell and Drew Ferors that transformed Darling Harbour’s Pier Street Underpass into a living digital artwork. Harrison Dow said the work explores how emerging technology is giving artists entirely new ways to create public experiences and connect audiences with works: “Using AI systems and live rendering, the installation reacts and evolves with every person who walks through it, creating an experience that is constantly changing and never behaves the same way twice.”
Vivid Sydney Festival Director Brett Sheehy AO said interactive works like The Daydream Machine were central to how audiences experienced the festival: “Vivid Sydney invites people to participate in creativity and interactive installations like The Daydream Machine, which place visitors at the heart of the artwork. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies such as AI, this work creates ever-changing experiences that encourage exploration, play and imagination. “TDC’s advanced technology also underpins projections across the Vivid Light Walk, illustrating how innovation continues to shape Vivid Sydney by unlocking new possibilities for artists and seamlessly bringing together creative vision and technical expertise.”

Rhythm at ASN Clocktower where Spinifex Group creates pulsating patterns of music, movement and connection.
‘Afterimage’, a projection mapped mural at Tumbalong Park, was spray-painted live by Sofles in collaboration with US artist Chaske Haverkos, while ‘As water falls’ by Canada’s Studio Irregular transformed a monolithic LED cube into an interactive digital waterfall at Circular Quay. Across the curvature of Barangaroo House, New Zealand artist David Morton’s ‘Laniakea’ explores humanity’s place within the vast cosmic web. Throughout Vivid Sydney, TDC’s central master control system provided real-time oversight across installations throughout the city, and helping deliver a seamless audience experience. Each year, TDC reviews and updates digital site models for selected locations to improve projection outcomes and make the creative development process more accessible for artists.
How some of Vivid Sydney’s projections were built?
One of the lesser-known technologies behind Vivid Sydney is LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanning. Ahead of the festival, TDC rescanned both Garrison Church and the Argyle Cut using advanced LiDAR technology, creating highly accurate digital replicas of the sites. These digital models were then converted into projection-ready environments, allowing artists anywhere in the world to design, test and refine their works against Sydney’s architecture long before arriving on site. “The process helps artists better understand scale, surfaces, proportions and architectural details while significantly reducing development time and increasing projection accuracy,” said Drew Ferors, Head of Innovation and Training at TDC.
Creative technologist and TDC Technical Project Manager Alex Rendell said Vivid Sydney required an expert team working behind the scenes in the months leading up to the festival. “What audiences experience on nights walking around the city takes months of collaboration between Vivid Sydney, individual artists and the team at TDC. Our role is bringing all those creative and technical systems together, from advanced Projection and LED systems through to media servers, TDC Live View monitoring and interactive technologies, so the artwork can come seamlessly to life for everyone’s enjoyment.” TDC powered 11 technically ambitious projections across Sydney, including:
•Barco ultra-high-resolution laser projectors across nine projection-mapped sites
•ROE LED tiles powering interactive experiences including The Daydream Machine and 547 million projected pixels illuminating Sydney landmarks each night, which is enough digital content resolution to fill more than 65 4K televisions running simultaneously
•More than 1.45 million ANSI lumens of projection brightness roughly equivalent to over 1,800 household LED light bulbs
•13 live monitoring cameras and 11 automation systems supporting nightly operations
•Advanced LiDAR scanning used to digitally recreate Garrison Church and the Argyle Cut for artists before arriving on site
•Real-time AI, water-screen projection, LED environments and high-powered laser systems

According to market forecasts, the global LED display market is expected to grow from US$2.41 billion in 2026 to approximately US$3.46 billion by 2035, with the United States continuing to lead in revenue generation. Discussing his new role, Tom said: “My background in sales, business development,
and product management and business development, along with my dvLED experience empowers me with the tools required to continue driving and improving the PPDS performance in North America. Pixel Global AV appoints Sebastian Szczesniak as Global Services Director
International AV integration partner Pixel Global AV has appointed Sebastian Szczesniak as Global Services Director, strengthening the company’s focus on enterprise AV support, managed services and consistent service delivery across its global operations. Sebastian will lead Pixel Global AV’s growing managed services division, overseeing support delivery for both end clients and the company’s expanding international partner network. With almost 20 years’ experience across the AV industry, Sebastian brings extensive expertise in service strategy, customer support and operational delivery. Prior to joining Pixel Global AV, he founded Solvertec in December 2024, a specialist AV services business created to address a gap he identified in the market: the need for dedicated, customer-focused service provision that sits at the heart of an AV solution rather than being treated as an additional offering. Pixel Global AV and Solvertec first began working together after being introduced through a shared cus-
tomer. Solvertec supported Pixel customers by delivering independent AV audits and service expertise, creating a natural alignment between the two organisations. Now joining Pixel Global AV in-house, Sebastian will continue developing this service-led approach globally. A key challenge he sees across the industry is maintaining consistent service levels across multiple regions. It can become complex, with different partners, standards, processes and margins involved. There is often slow issue resolution and unclear ownership.
“Looking after customers has always been the most important part of what I do,” says Sebastian Szczesniak, Global Services Director, Pixel Global AV. “In many cases, support services are fragmented, inconsistent and difficult to manage across regions. Pixel shares that same mindset that there is a real opportunity to simplify how global support is delivered - providing consistent quality, one point of contact and a service experience that customers can rely on wherever they are in the world.”
Pixel Global AV’s established partner network spanning the UK, Europe, Latin America, India, China, Africa and Asia Pacific, provides a strong foundation to overcome this challenge. Pixel already has relationships in place with partners that are tried, tested and aligned with the same values. This creates a much simpler way of delivering a truly global service. Before founding
Solvertec, Sebastian spent 14 years with Avsnet, which later became part of SCC, where he progressed to Head of Service. His career has been built around solving problems, supporting customers and enabling teams to deliver outstanding service. With a Master’s degree in Engineering, Sebastian has always had a natural technical mindset and enjoys being the person who can find solutions when challenges arise.
Commenting on the appointment, Jamie Hanna, Managing Director of Pixel Global AV, said: “Sebastian’s appointment marks an important step in Pixel Global AV’s continued investment in customer experience and global service delivery, supporting the company’s ambition to provide direct delivery of scalable, reliable AV solutions beyond installation and deployment. We build long-term operational relationships with our clients and act as an extension of their workplace and IT teams. We’ve been working on some significant new developments in this area that will have a major impact on standards for global AV support models in our industry. Sebastian joining us is just the beginning.”

AV industry focuses on experience, infrastructure and the next evolution
InfoComm 2026 wrapped up in Las Vegas following three days of exhibition and an extensive education programme, attracting 28,132 verified attendees. While attendance was down year-on-year compared with 2025, the show reinforced the strength of the AV community, with suppliers, integrators, consultants and end users gathering to share ideas, build relationships and explore the future of the industry.
As always, one of InfoComm’s biggest strengths was its community. The education programme, networking opportunities and wide range of supplier and association events created valuable opportunities for the industry to connect beyond the show floor. The exhibition itself was easy to navigate, with a busy first two days and a quieter final day allowing for more exploratory conversations. A key theme throughout the show was the continued evolution of AV from technology deployment towards experience, operations and business outcomes.
Overall, InfoComm 2026 demonstrated a market continuing to mature. The conversation is moving beyond individual technologies towards how AV systems create meaningful experiences, support operations and deliver long-term value. In 2027, a new event called RESIDE will debut with Lightapalooza at InfoComm. As commercial and residential technologies continue to converge, RESIDE - launched through a joint venture between AVIXA, HTSA, and ProSource - will strengthen cross industry connections for integrators, manufacturers, and service providers shaping the residential market.

CEDIA Expo/CIX claims USA leadership in residential lighting and integrated living
As lighting continues to shape design, wellness, and overall performance in the modern home, CEDIA Expo/ Commercial Integrator Expo (CIX) continues to solidify its position as the premier event for residential lighting, controls, shading, and integrated living technologies. Bringing together North America’s largest audience of
residential system integrators, designers, and architects, the event reflects the growing importance of lighting in today’s connected residential environments. CEDIA Expo/CIX showcases lighting as part of a fully integrated ecosystem that includes automation, shading, audio, security, and wellness systems, mirroring the evolving realities of residential project design and delivery, where seamless integration and user experience increasingly define how spaces look, feel, and function. “Lighting is no longer a standalone category; it is a foundational layer of the connected environment,” said Jason McGraw, Group Vice President and Show Director, CEDIA Expo/CIX. “What distinguishes CEDIA Expo/CIX is the opportunity to see how lighting, controls, shading, and automation integrate seamlessly in real-world applications. This level of integration, along with the audience that appreciates it, is unique to this event.”
According to CEDIA’s 2023 Smart Home Market Analysis, lighting and shading control systems are among the categories with the highest rate of growth. These findings were reported directly by integrators themselves. This shift highlights the ever-growing importance of CEDIA Expo/CIX and its ability to gather the residential integration industry together under one roof. Jay Divine, President of ilLumenate Lighting, notes, “CEDIA Expo/CIX is where you meet the smartest minds in home integration. We’ve seen technology get smarter and smarter each year, and platforms like this allow us to stay abreast of the innovations. It’s the most comprehensive venue where residential lighting for interior and outdoor environments is considered in the context of whole-home integration and manifests in cross-brand collaborations, industry panels, keynotes, and, ultimately, better business for the brands, designers, and integrators! This makes CEDIA Expo/CIX a must on our calendar every year.”
The 2026 exhibit hall features a comprehensive lineup of leading and emerging lighting, control, and shading brands—presented within the context of fully integrated systems. Brands including AiSPIRE/WAC, DMF Lighting, and Proluxe by American Lighting highlight the innovation shaping the category, while technology leaders such as Lutron, Crestron, Savant, Nice, and URC demonstrate how lighting serves as a central control layer within the connected home. Motorised shading and daylight management further extend this ecosystem, with companies like Somfy and PowerShades demonstrating how comfort, wellness, and energy performance are increasingly interconnected. Outdoor living is represented by brands including Coastal Source, while emerging specialty solutions further underscore the range of new ideas shaping the category.
A key differentiator of CEDIA Expo/CIX is its conference program, developed and led by the CEDIA Association, the global authority for the integrated technology industry. The CEDIA Education Conference positions lighting and shading as a strategic entry point into larger, more complex projects, equipping professionals to expand into residential and light commercial applica-
tions. The CEDIA Education Conference schedule includes a diverse range of topics, from wellness and circadian design to integrated controls, performance, and aesthetics. These sessions provide attendees with practical insight into one of the fastest growing and most influential categories in residential technology and design. Taking courses directly curated by the leading authority in integrated technology is an opportunity too valuable to pass up. “Lighting has become one of the most important elements of the modern home,” said Daryl Friedman, Global President and CEO of CEDIA. “As the association representing smart home professionals, CEDIA is focused on helping integrators understand how lighting fits within the broader ecosystem of the connected home. At CEDIA Expo/CIX, we’re providing education that reflects how residential projects are actually designed and delivered today to increase integrator profits and client satisfaction.”
CEDIA Expo/CIX will return to Denver from Tuesday, September 1, to Friday, September 4, 2026.
