The Østre Gasværk Theatre in Copenhagen is an extraordinary new performance space which uses the power of d&b audiotechnik’s Soundscape system, to take the concept of immersive theatre to a whole new level. Thanks to Soundscape, each spoken word, musical note, and sound effect seems to emanate from the precise location of its source. What’s more, the system gives sound designers an unmatched creative flexibility, enabling them to use d&b Soundscape not just as a straightforward sound reinforcement tool, but as a powerful enhancement to the performance itself, and the audience’s experience of it. The Østre Gasværk installation is a remarkable achievement – an immersive theatre space which aims for visual and aural perfection. Not only does it include Denmark’s first immersive theatre sound installation, but it is also worthy of recognition as part of a landmark in theatre design. The main challenge was the acoustics. The cavernous, circular building with its hard reflective surfaces and domed timber roof presented an acoustician’s nightmare. Incredibly successful (with more than 1m players since 2015), 25 centres already operational in Belgium, Germany, France, and Austria with new openings planned, including regions such as Switzerland, UK, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Australia. Panasonic projectors are used in franchises based in exhibition buildings, where ceilings are high, ranging from 10m to 17m tall. BattleKart has used Panasonic’s VMZ Series of projectors in many of its locations. The current range has the world’s smallest and lightest LCD laser projectors in their class. This combination of high brightness in a lightweight, compact and reliable chassis, as well as optimal throw ratio and good lens shift capabilities was an important consideration in their choice of projector. Panasonic was the only manufacturer to offer a zoom lens of 1.09, along with great lens shift functionality and high brightness. This made installing the projectors much easier in these tall buildings and the high brightness delivered great visuals – even from a higher level on the ceilings. The number of projectors and sensors used in each BattleKart facility varies depending on the size and height of the location. But typically, between 30 and 60 Panasonic projectors are used per deployment. The facility also has a unique sensor system that tracks the location of the karts 200 times per second as they move around the track – enabling an advanced anti-collision system. As a result, BattleKart is fast and fun but importantly incredibly safe.

The 28,166-square-foot 10mm LED display with over 22 million pixels is longer than a football field, spanning 481 feet and mirrors the shape of the F1 logo. It captured the attention of viewers watching from home as broadcasters used the sign to provide impressive, close-up views of the race. The Grandstand experience gave spectators a passenger seat view: The grandstands bolster 1.2 million pixels, packed into three 941-square-feet of Samsung’s 8mm LED displays. With this immersive viewing experience, in-person attendees didn’t miss a moment of the action. The new displays feature Samsung’s latest and most advanced HDR10+ technology, with over 8,000-nit brightness, to provide the most dynamic image quality even when the sun is shining. The F1 Rooftop Logo, Escalator Trapezoid and three Grandstand displays feature over 33 million Samsung LED pixels and over 32,000 square feet. Together, they lit up the city, and are long enough to lap the Las Vegas Strip Circuit two and a half times.

Arcsteam systems digital generative art installation In what we believe is the first digital generative art installations of its size, we were briefed by interior design agency Modus Workspace to fit Capital’s new London office reception with an 80 square metre, C-Shaped, LED screen - but with a twist, it’s on the ceiling! The plan was to inform and influence team members and impress visitors. For the ceiling display, content is driven via API feeds from global trading centres and it adapts in real-time to the ‘trading weather’ with a series of cameras tracking movement to providing an extra layer of interactivity as passers-by leave trails. Generative art, typically, is projections on buildings as one-offs but this time, the generative art installation is part of the fabric of the workplace itself. Financial market trading data is a specialist area that it takes experts to comprehend. “We took sources of that information and turned into an easy to grasp and emotionally impactful artistic representation.” The unusual placement and size meant the Arcstream team had to design a serviceable system whilst also considering the weight and managing the heat it generated - all in a very busy ceiling space. It was designed and installed with its own power distribution and isolation systems connected to the building’s mains supply to ensure efficiency and safety.

could afford. As a result, CCaaS is becoming more important to the channel, with solutions like Zoom Contact Center designed to facilitate rapid deployment in mid-market organisations. Nuvias UC is at the forefront of this trend, rolling out CCaaS solutions that enhance customer interactions with features that allow customers to increase their use of transformative automation technologies. AV News: What else is changing, and where do the opportunities lie for tech providers?

What’s Next for the changing comms market?

A

V News sat down with longtime acquaintance Joel Chimoindes, CEO of Nuvias UC, to discuss prospects for the comms market. In the rapidly evolving comms industry, understanding current and future trends is crucial for businesses aiming to stay ahead. In this Q&A, Joel Chimoindes, CEO of Nuvias UC, shares his thoughts on key issues impacting vendors, channel partners and end users alike, from the impact of AI to the continuing rise of ‘as-a-Service’ offerings. AV News: How is the Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) sector expected to evolve in the next few years? JC: The UCaaS market is experiencing significant growth, with projections indicating an annual increase of about 13-14%. This is driven by a range of factors, not least the shift away from traditional telephony as businesses increasingly adopt UCaaS innovative solutions. Additionally, despite a reduction in the addressable market for video since the COVID-19 surge, there remains a substantial opportunity for growth, as only a small fraction of meeting rooms are currently equipped with adequate video capabilities. AV News: What are the anticipated trends and opportunities in the Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) niche? JC: CCaaS is becoming more accessible and affordable, especially for mid-sized and smaller organisations – a trend that is driving a robust growth rate of approximately 18% in the sector. This is bringing a range of benefits to end-user organisations, allowing them to capitalize on the versatility and convenience of the ‘asa-Service’ model that, until recently, only enterprises

20

JC: In the video space, the focus is shifting towards high-volume, rapid deployment of meeting room equipment, with an emphasis on user-friendliness and collaboration. For channel organisations, the market is polarizing, challenging them to choose between quick rollouts or creating highly integrated environments. For end-user organisations, an emerging challenge is managing and supporting this strategy around-the-clock as video technology becomes indispensable. These businesses will increasingly draw on the skills and experience of their technology partners to find the support services they need. UCaaS requires a broader set of skills compared to video solutions, encompassing networking, IT and security. For channel partners, this presents an important opportunity to expand their service portfolio and become more embedded with this type of organisation in the long term. AV News: How is the overall role of the channel evolving in light of these developments? JC: The channel is diversifying, with some partners expanding their capacity or capabilities through outsourcing or collaboration with solutions providers like Nuvias UC. This type of agility and adaptability are crucial in addressing the wide range of skills required for UCaaS and CCaaS implementations. AV News: What is the most notable emerging trend in these markets right now? JC: Clearly, the deployment of AI is the most striking trend, with a particular focus on productivity gains. In the next 12 months, we’re certain to see significant levels of AI-driven innovation, underlining the message that embracing AI is crucial. At the same time, it’s equally important to manage compliance concerns associated with it. AV News: What are Nuvias UC’s development plans and

strategies for the year ahead and beyond? JC: Nuvias UC is in a transformative phase, marked by a strategic shift that has taken place under new leadership. The company is focused on providing clarity in its strategy and building an effective ecosystem that encompasses video, telephony, UCaaS and CCaaS – all supported by professional services to extend the capabilities of our resellers. The upcoming year is important for Nuvias UC as we aim to build upon this foundation, with a significant emphasis on enhancing technical professional services.

I believe in the power of optimizing and pushing boundaries to maintain the intrinsic value of our offerings. This becomes increasingly important as technology and market demands evolve – a reality that often leads to commoditization. I also focus on achieving marginal gains, understanding that consistent, incremental improvements are crucial for long-term success. This philosophy is central to how we navigate challenges and seize opportunities, ensuring that Nuvias UC remains a leader in the distribution sector and continues to add value over time.

In this context, increasing collaboration with partners in the UK and across Europe is key, and our objective is to help them accelerate their capabilities in professional and managed services. Looking further ahead, we plan to selectively expand its ecosystem, concentrating on key capabilities to stay ahead in the evolving UC market. AV News: As the CEO of Nuvias UC, how do you approach leadership and focus on your strategy for the business? JC: My approach to leadership at Nuvias UC is anchored in a philosophy of dynamic evolution and continuous improvement. I am deeply committed to driving change, not merely for its own sake but as an essential strategy for staying ahead in our rapidly evolving industry.

Unlocking the potential of a truly smart office

C

ovid-19 transformed the way we work, and hybrid is now a fact of life for many. Although there was limited choice in the matter, businesses rapidly set up remote working practices and today, employees largely divide their time between the office and home. However, 46% of UK workers experience challenges in maximising productivity when in an office environment. This presents a problem for business leaders, who should now aim to construct an office working environment in balance with the home set up. However, it can also reap wider benefits if executed effectively. Of course, technology plays a vital role in ensuring a seamless transition between workspaces, and without total integration where a business’ entire system works in harmony, valuable opportunities are being missed. Although this may seem farfetched, the smart office is fast becoming reality. Building a connected office environment

22

Over the last two years, many companies have changed offices and moved into new and sometimes smaller spaces, recognizing that both needs, and in-person attendance, have shifted significantly because of hybrid working. Business leaders are increasingly adopting building management and device management solutions to ensure their workspace is used effectively and thinking about the ways employees can better collaborate to maximize productivity. Implementing an integrated system is the key the unlocking value here. So, what is an integrated ecosystem? And what value do they add? Essentially, this describes the way a variety of office

technologies, from smart monitors to meeting room management systems and even dry-cleaning services, seamlessly work together and interconnect. With this, workplaces can offer a more streamlined and unified experience for employees and when managed centrally through a remote service platform, a host of new advantages become accessible. For instance, meeting room management systems may streamline scheduling, access and space utilization, enhancing efficiency and reducing frustrations often associated with meeting room logistics. By integrating digital displays, booking software and real-time calendar syncing, employees can simply access information relevant to bookings, and receive timely notifications and alerts, increasing the probability that meetings will start smoothly and on time. These technology ecosystems – for example, PCs, smartphones and wearable tech that seamlessly connect and communicate with each other – are already commonplace in the consumer space. Now they’re becoming increasingly available for businesses. Existing technologies that feature remote management of devices and digital signage are already on the market. If full integration is to become a reality in the B2B space, it’s likely that display technology will be at the centre of

the innovation. Smart displays: unlocking integration There are a number of ways technology is expanding the boundaries that define traditional workplaces, smart monitors being one of them. As they work in tandem with temperature control and employees as they effortlessly switch between tasks, access information, and manage work environments, the true overarching value of a smart office can be seen. At Samsung, we work with companies like Microsoft, Logitech, and Cisco, which are at the forefront of next-generation offices. In these workplaces, professional displays and smart monitors are equipped with energy-efficient applications and facilitate remote servicing. These displays also offer features like split-screen functionality, customizable workspaces, and compatibility with a range of devices, allowing for seamless transitions between work-related tasks and personal activities. This not only enhances productivity but allows users to optimize their professional setup, and then effortlessly transition to personal use once the day is done. With teams based in various locations throughout the country, or globe, displays can also support with collaboration. 78% of CEOs believe remote collaboration needs to be thought of as a long-term business strategy, so it’s no surprise businesses are embracing smart offices equipped with displays that facilitate reduced energy consumption, optimized productivity, and offer seamless connections with other integrated technologies. It’s only a matter of time before this becomes the daily norm, but what exactly might this look like?

adjusts the smart desk and temperature to your preference. Your already prepared presentation appears onscreen as the display notifies you that your scheduled meeting starts in one minute. With comfort maximized and devices synced, you join with minimal distractions. These integrated technologies take your work productivity to new levels as well as increase comfort and relieve stress. Having real-time data and collaboration tools readily available allows you to communicate more efficiently and take more informed action. Technology is no longer a source of frustration but an engine for a better experience. Taking a smart leap forward Smart offices are the future of the modern workplace and will bring about a transformation in the way we spend our working hours - representing around 260 days a year! Providing systems that can improve productivity, employee satisfaction and efficiency will become more accessible than ever before. No longer is a smart office with a user-centric, integrated ecosystem something confined to fiction, but something tangible that businesses will increasingly adopt to stay competitive and retain staff. As the smart office of the future continues to shift and evolve, we should all prepare for executing our jobs in a different ways, interacting with each other in a more collaborative way and building a new dynamic working life.

So how will this change my working life? Picture this, it’s Monday morning in the not-so-distant future and you’ve arrived at your smart office… You kick the work week off with a visual cue of streamlined efficiency. As you enter the office, sensors adjust the lighting to your preference and the temperature alters to your comfort zone. You pull out your smartphone which automatically connects to your smart monitor, two devices that play a central role in this connected ecosystem. Opening your personalized command centre allows you to seamlessly manage tasks and environments. With a few taps, you check your schedule, order morning coffee, and reserve a conference room, all before settling into your workspace. As you move throughout the office, your smartphone smoothly connects to IoT devices. You arrive at your conference room booked earlier as the resident smart display autonomously recognizes you, checks you in and

ISE 2024 – the dawn of a new paradigm?

I

SE 2024 is being touted as ‘the best yet’ by its owners and organisers. They may well be right, but what is undoubtedly true is that the 2024 event could mark a paradigm shift as the new and emerging technologies of artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and big data. Monitors and sensors are all at the point of commercial viability and will certainly be part of many integrators’ toolkits going forward. So, how will ISE 2024 help in selecting products and solutions in these new technologies, particularly in the context of sustainability? AI on show

26

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to change the playing field in the Multi-Technology Zone of ISE 2024. AI can provide real-time transcription and translation from natural language models for streaming video and audio. It can be used to automatically adjust camera framing and audio levels, as well as apply noise reduction for video and audio streams. Generative AI can produce text and image content that responds almost instantly to user interactions. AI is also moving into sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, and smart homes, using data analytics and enhanced voice recognition to predict and allocate resources, recognise behaviour patterns and deliver timely information to patients and residents. Combining complementary technologies can also be used to deliver an immersive experience in the hospitality and entertainment sectors. A recent example is a restaurant on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean where projectors, motion sensing cameras, LED display walls, and scent atomisers are combined with local speciality meals to turn each dining experience into a voyage of discovery based on the geographical location of the ship. Projection-mapped contextual elements on the surface of the table react to the movements and gestures of the diners, while scents align with the localised

Many visitors to ISE 2024 will concentrate their time and resources on exhibits, but with so many new technologies on show, utilising the extensive conference, seminar and Tech Talk programme makes a lot of sense. One of the other. One event that immediately caught our eye was the Tech Tour organised by Layers of Reality and IDEAL Barcelona, who will share their curatorial and production insight on this ISE Tech Tour. Participants will be invited to walk hand-in-hand with the Child Pharaoh, Tutankhamun, through the history of an absolutely magical civilisation from which we have inherited many cultural elements. It continues to captivate using the enigmas that are covered by its desert sands and are diluted in the waters of the mighty Nile River. Immersive, interactive and virtual reality rooms will immerse guests in the world of Tutankhamun as could never have been imagined, through a space of more than 2000 m². “Layers of Reality will reveal the success of our productions to date as well as give a broad overview of the technology, outline curatorial and artistic requirements, and share some fun facts, site developments and trends,” says Olga Alekseeva, Strategy Director at IDEAL Barcelona. The V ISE Tech Tour takes place from 12:30 to 14:30 on Wednesday 31 January 2024. Visitor attractions and museums are key beneficiaries of the advances in the XR technologies of virtual and augmented reality. They also employ projection mapping for highlighting specific features, creating new illusions, or turning a featureless space into a unique environment. Fine-pixel-pitch LED videowalls offer huge canvases for display, illumination, and interactivity. Multi-dimensional sound, intelligent cameras, robotic lighting, and interactive sensors can create rich immersive environments for high-brow audiences, tour groups, and thrill-seekers alike. Another advance is in 3D scanning and holography, allowing for the creation of ‘digital twins’ of precious objects and inaccessible buildings that users can interact with and explore. VR and AR technologies are natural partners for this trend. Holographic experiences are becoming popular in retail and event spaces, with hyper-realistic 3D objects and people appearing to be present in the shop window. ISE and the workplace The ISE 2024 conference programme features innovations and the workplace. Chaired by Bob Snyder, Editor-in-Chief, of Channel Media Europe, a full-day conference will present a range of smart building case studies

and presentations from leaders of the latest technology and solutions for inside smart buildings, smart homes and smart offices. Bob Snyder comments: “Any integrator that works in the built environment should join us in the Smart Building Conference at ISE 2024. We’re the cutting edge of the built environment and you’ll meet some of the industry’s leading thought leaders. For example, you’ll enjoy a panel on The ROI of Smart Buildings moderated by Matthew Marson, Managing Director, EMEA Advisory at JLL Technologies and hear about the opportunity for Master System Integrators, from AV companies that are already there. I’m also looking forward to Dan Drogman, CEO, of Smart Spaces sharing ‘The 10 Top Smart Buildings I Know’.” The Smart Building Conference: “Understanding the ROI of Smarter Building” takes place on Tuesday 30 January | 10:30 – 16:30 – Location: CC5.1 Away from the workplace, the Smart Home Technology Conference is on Tuesday 30 January – Friday 2 February | from 10:30 – 16:30 (Location: CC1 suite). CEDIA is offering nearly 60 hours of courses within its conference, covering topic areas such as technical installation and design, business excellence, and future trends; all through the lens of home technology integration. Daryl Friedman, CEDIA Global President and CEO, comments, “We are delighted to bring the CEDIA Smart Home Technology Conference back to ISE. This conference will delve into various subject areas exploring home technology integration. AI and cybersecurity will be key themes throughout the four-day programme, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a diverse range of expert-led daily workshops and courses. I encourage you to fully explore CEDIA’s array of opportunities to make your visit an enriching and meaningful experience.”

ensure you leave knowing the first steps you should take. Our guests are already delivering solutions, so this should be a fascinating set of sessions for manufacturers, end-users, and systems integrators.” ISE and sustainability Today, it would be impossible to present an event on the scale of ISE without considering the environmental impact of the products and solutions on show. The Sustainability Workshop takes place on Friday 2 February | 10:30 – 14:30 (Location: C1). CEDIA presents an exclusive conference session dedicated to addressing the global issues of climate change, nature loss, and social resilience within our industry. Delve into the complexities of being both part of the problem and part of the solution. Simon Brown, Presenter and Chair, comments, “It’s great to be at ISE’s 20th year and to be working with businesses there on what I believe is the biggest opportunity shaping the next 20 years. We will explore the challenges and opportunities around sustainable business growth and innovation and how you can make a profit whilst fixing some of the world’s problems rather than causing them. The style of the workshop will be interactive, working with industry peers, learning from examples and being challenged to consider what’s possible for your business.”

Smart workplaces Beyond smart buildings, many businesses are looking to enhance their operations in the interests of performance and productivity. The ISE session “Smart Workplace Summit: Tackling the New Challenges” on Wednesday 31 January – Thursday 1 February | 15:30 – 18:00 (Location: CC5.1) could be worthwhile. Conference Chair and former Operations Manager, Google, Gary Keene and his guests will be looking at a number of emergent challenges including cybersecurity, the use and the ethics of AI, purpose-driven design, inclusive design and environmental benchmarking. Keene says: “We’ll be looking at a number of the emergent challenges in designing and managing AV in buildings and campuses, including cybersecurity, the use and the ethics of AI, purpose-driven design, inclusive design and environmental benchmarking. For example, Samsung is a leader in high-resolution displays, including The Wall; LG’s OLED and LED displays, projector and cloud-enabled devices are globally acclaimed; Christie’s projectors are renowned for ‘awe-inspiring’ installations to engage audiences; Epson specialises in versatile, high brightness 3LCD laser projectors for immersive, interactive experiential environments at major venues and visitor attractions; Panasonic offers a range of high brightness projectors as well as high-quality displays. Digital Projection offers an extensive line of ultra-high-performance 3-chip and single-chip DLP projection systems for an array of demanding applications; Newtonlab Space designs and manufactures holographic devices as well as creating their content; Jupiter Systems offers data visualisation in video walls, control rooms, large venues, conference rooms, and more; while Crestron is a recognised expert in video and audio, offering not just cameras, screens, and soundbars, but the interconnects, control hardware, presentation systems, lighting, and scheduling solutions to support them. Innovations in signage Innovations in digital signage account for a larger percentage of the ISE 24 exhibition space. Signage is also

a key feature of the event conference programme. A major event in the conference programme is the event entitled: “Digital Signage Summit: Beyond Pixel - A holistic view of Digital Signage” on Wednesday 31 January | 10:30 - 14:30 | (Location: CC5.). Chaired by Florian Rotberg from Invidis Consulting, the Summit will explore the usage scenarios of displays, location-sensitive LEDs and projectors with effects that depend on the immediate physical spaces and audiences. Rotberg, explains “The leading topics we’ll be discussing during DSS ISE 2024 are the disrupting developments in GenAI, IT-Security and the fast-growing relevance of sustainability and software, within the digital signage industry.” At Booth 3S150 on the show floor, LED manufacturer LED Studio introduces two new additions to its award-winning and ever-evolving EDGE Series: the 54” EDGE Pro and 65” EDGE. These advancements have been designed as a direct response to the growing demand for bigger, better and more energy-efficient installations. The 54” EDGE Pro uses some of the most advanced pixel technologies, providing up to 40% energy saving compared to SMD technologies, making it a smarter, more eco-friendly choice for fine-pitch LED display applications. The 65” EDGE Pro is engineered for install efficiency and can be erected in minutes, with its large diecast cabinets significantly reducing the need for cabinet fettling and mechanical adjustments. In addition to its energy-saving properties, it also reduces the amount of raw materials used during the manufacturing process. The EDGE Series’ clever engineering and industry-leading sustainability credentials help contribute to the overall market advancement of LED displays, making them more accessible and cost-effective for a wide range of applications including digital signage, corporate, retail and hospitality. New in collaboration Collaboration solutions are having a positive impact in the enterprise space too. As workers continue to embrace hybrid and remote working, unified communications technology is crucial to creating a cohesive, productive and satisfied workforce. Videoconferencing systems, wireless content-sharing tools, interactive displays and whiteboards are all being utilised to facilitate collaboration and bring teams together. But, while this more visible side of UC takes a lot of the attention, much of the innovation is happening behind the scenes.

Cloud and data technologies are transforming how enterprises manage their estates, providing valuable information on how buildings are operating and if spaces are being fully utilised. Remote management of devices is also helping to ensure a reliable, consistent experience for users who increasingly rely on UC tools to carry out their daily tasks. In Hall 2, Booth 2S7000 Avocor will show its collaboration solutions and has confirmed it will be unveiling an expanding range of technologies at ISE. Diversifying from its interactive display roots, Avocor sees ISE as the perfect setting to reveal several innovations, serving up more options that rethink the way communication is delivered, collaboration is encouraged and how new levels of productivity can be achieved – no matter the setting or environment. Avocor’s comprehensive line-up of solutions designed for new ways of working and learning will be on hand at ISE. From easy-to-use out-of-the-box digital signage to premium interactive displays to software platforms that are designed to stimulate creativity, drive engagement, fuel teamwork, and enable effortless management of remote devices and timely updates. Avocor will also showcase its latest products that extend the company’s reach into additional markets and verticals, including a new way to ‘go large’ by combining a striking and visually impactful 138” DvLED experience into an elevator friendly package, as well as a new interactive display that features a beautifully sleek design with a premium feel that will enhance every meeting room and is certain to resonate with budget-conscious organizations.

"At Avocor, we work hard to bring the voice of the customer into all that we develop, leveraging our strategic alliances to ensure we are producing innovative solutions that meet the current and future needs of the end user, and IT and AV managers alike,” comments Scott Hix, CEO at Avocor. “We’re thrilled that ISE 2024, in its 20th year, will be the launch platform for some of the exciting product and partnership news we have to share.” Visitors to the Avocor booth will be able to learn more about its alliances and the unique benefits they will bring to Avocor customers and partners. The show will also give booth visitors the opportunity to get hands-on with the L Series, Avocor’s 105”, 21:9 ultra-wide display, ideal for organizations that are looking to maximize Microsoft Signature Teams Rooms deployments, CollabTouch, a complete portfolio of all-in-one solutions designed in partnership with Logitech, and the Avocor Google Meet hardware technologies, Desk 27, and Board 65. Edtech innovations With ISE and BETT taking place within a few days of each other, many visitors will be asking “Which should they attend?”. Education has been a core market for the AV industry for many years, both in terms of sales volume and the desire by schools and colleges to engage with the latest technologies to improve engagement and student outcomes. Although the current economic outlook is tempering the ability of some organisations to invest, the latest figures indicate that many major

new projects are still going ahead. According to the latest IOTA report from AVIXA, education was on course to generate revenue of $28.5 billion in 2023, with a compound annual growth of 4.4% expected through 2028. The increased interest in hybrid learning is feeding into the growing trend for asynchronous learning, where students can study at a time that suits them. To address digital inequality, the focus now is on ensuring accessibility to materials for all, making more engaging content available offline and offering a wider range of content. While videoconferencing systems and kits to broadcast lessons online have been a focus of investment, more traditional learning tools such as interactive whiteboards and projectors are also finding a new lease of life, especially where students can connect them with their own devices to share and access content. If it helps to sway you, ISE is presenting “Education Technology Summit: Educating Humans in a Digital World” on Thursday 1 February | from 10:30 – 14:30 (Location: CC5.) The summit, led by Conference Chair and Consultant, 1EdTech and EUNIS, Gill Ferrell, will delve into the ‘how’s’ and ‘why’s’ offering insights into the future of the critical use of technology for educational experiences. Ferrell explains: “In the last year we have seen an explosion of new AI-powered tools, as well as seeing familiar tools supercharged by the application of data and machine learning. The summit will bring together experts who are able to look beyond the market

hype and the fear of the unknown, to take a realistic view of how the latest in innovative technologies might serve to enhance learning.” On the show floor, leading names supplying the education sector will be found in the Unified Communications & Education Technology Zone in Hall 2. Big brands already confirmed include HP, Poly, Jabra, Microsoft and Zoom. On the display side, Clevertouch and ViewSonic will be among those showing their latest advances, while content-sharing platform ScreenBeam and collaborative tools from Ricoh, Neat (in Hall 4) and Crestron (in Hall 3) will be available for demo. The introduction of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR) and 3D simulations looks set to take student participation to the next level. Highly interactive virtual learning environments utilising these technologies, without headsets, are already being used for a variety of learning environments. Looking ahead, education could even move into the metaverse, with AR and VR combined with distributed ledger technologies providing new ways for students and tutors to interact with each other. Greater adoption of cloud technology has been a key enabler for many of these advances, providing greater flexibility and the ability to manage and monitor installations remotely. In the future, data analytics will likely play a bigger role, giving insight into learner behaviours and how offerings can be made more impactful. In addition, big data and

artificial intelligence are helping educators to understand the impact of their teaching, identify those falling behind and shape lessons to enhance their appeal, while AR and VR devices continue to bring topics to life and offer new perspectives and gamified experiences. Looking further ahead these devices will become more integrated into classrooms, with haptic devices also becoming a more common sight in learning spaces. The convergence between AV and broadcast is also in evidence here, with cameras, switching equipment and green screen systems a more regular sight in the corporate world as production standards move way beyond a simple Teams call. Zoom, Cisco, Google, Jabra and Microsoft continue to lead the way when it comes to communication and collaboration tools, while Clevertouch, ViewSonic and Avocor offer those all-important display solutions. On the audio side, QSC and Shure have offerings for rooms of all shapes and sizes, from simple microphones and headsets to fully integrated solutions. Live events latest ISE’s principal competitor in the live events space is probably the PLASA events, but with so much interest in immersive techniques, ISE is well placed to attract visitors with this interest. The ISE conference programme features a session entitled “Live Events Summit: New Solutions for New Challenges” on Thursday 1 February | 10:30 – 14:30 (Location: CC5.2) Chair and Tpi Editor, Stew Hume, together with leading experts like the team from Celestial, will focus on challenges and evaluating new solutions for the live events industry. Hume comments: “The goal is to look at how new technologies might help change productions in the future. We’re excited to invite the team from Celestial and as one of the front runners in large outdoor drone shows, the team will discuss how this solution was adopted at some major live events including the Eurovision Song Contest and Secret Garden Party this year. There’ll be two panels talking about some of the major developments within the world of video and audio and how we’re starting to see some major ripples from technological innovations that took place over the pandemic. On the show floor, Disguise will give ISE visitors a chance to dive deep into its latest solutions and discover how they enabled some of the world’s most talked about live shows, like U2’s residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, and immersive experiences like the BBC Earth Experience in London. Visitors can also expect to learn more about Disguise’s growing suite of Cloud tools, including the recently integrated Previz and Mapping Matter, as well as its latest software integrations with Cuebric and Volinga, unlocking generative AI content workflows in virtual production. ISE will also play host to several new and exciting

hardware reveals from Disguise, as part of the continuous evolution of its modular scalable hardware architecture, complemented by the latest developments in its IP Video Format Conversion card (IP-VFC), harnessing the power and speed to run the highest standards of production with ST2110 and 12G SDI workflows. From projection mapping to LED content of any size and complexity, Disguise’s solutions can turn any vision into reality, in one integrated end-to-end platform. Drop by booth 3H210 to find out how. Audio innovations Sound is also a key player in both the workplace and education. Echo cancellation and noise reduction have led to enhanced microphones, with beamforming mics that can also track and isolate speakers. In contrast, digitally steerable speakers can direct sound to where it’s needed most, with the greatest clarity. Next-generation audio (NGA), in the form of binaural codecs and other immersive formats, can add another dimension to the user experience, either via headsets or multiple speakers; NGA codecs can also offer alternative commentary options, listener control of sound elements – useful for auditory issues and enhanced dialogue – as well as enhanced audio description services.
