Top/ Bottom reclaims overlooked urban spaces to create queer-inclusive environments that challenge heteronormative structures and address the erasure of queer spaces. Using a modular framework, the project transforms alleys and subterranean zones into “third spaces” that blur public-private boundaries, fostering identity exploration and community building through arts and entertainment. Two interventions- Jarvis, a public approach celebrating queer visibility, and Church, a secluded retreat to an underground club - use thresholds to immerse users in a transitional journey balancing exposure and privacy. Guided by the concept of “artificial nighttime,” to challenge heteronormative structures, Top/ Bottom creates a flexible, replicable language of queer expression carved into the city’s urban fabric.
