Cowboys and cowgirls who are entered in the ESWA event on Friday night will receive free entry into the Cowboy Cocktail party. For all other members tickets can be purchased on the MS Rodeo Promotions website. A ticket will include dinner and your first drink.

APRA members are bound by the APRA rule book, taking your frustrations out on our office staff or individual rodeo committees/personnel because you don't agree with a rule or because you don't believe it should apply in your circumstance is not acceptable. If you have a discrepancy that you feel deserves discussion. your first point of call should be your event director.
Rodeo was hot inJanuary! Both temperature and competition!!!
20 Rodeos (I think!!) have been run since Boxing Day with 2 postponements due to fire and heat. That's 20 x draws, 20 x rodeo paperwork, 20 x checking results, 20 x entering results, 20 x processing payouts and all the enquiries/changes that come with holding big events. 2 events postponed means refunding all entry fees, notifying everyone and organising a new date. Thank you to my team for your efforts this month and thank you to everyone for your patience as we worked through very high call/email volumes and mountains of paperwork!!
A big shout out to our rodeo committees who are often all volunteers, putting in the big (unpaid!) hours to hold events that enable us to do what we love - rodeo! Our promoters also deserve a pat on the back for putting together events for our competitors, we appreciate your support of the APRA and our members. January had some challenges and some juggling was required as we prioritised Animal Welfare and competitor safety, so thank you.
I believe the best way to thank our rodeo organisers is respect. Respect for the number of hours it takes to organise a rodeo which often starts 12 months before a competitor rolls in the gate on the day of the rodeo. After hours meetings, organising food, trade stalls, media, stock, council approvals, suppliers, facilities, arenas, seating, officials and ticketing in a world where red tape is making it harder for small committees and businesses to host events. Respect for camping areas, ground rules, staff who are working, facilities and infrastructure.
Without respect for our events, we lose them and the chance to compete. My point is there is a lot of work that goes into the APRA Season, a lot of it behind the scenes, unseen and without reward. Our Executive and Competition Committee directors are all volunteers. Most of our rodeo committees are all volunteers. They do it for the love of rodeo and in the case of committees, their communities. And respect is how we show appreciation.
We have another eight months of the season remaining. We have new and returning rodeos in the calendar and in the works. We've had an increase in new memberships and returning members. Planning for the NFR is already underway. Pretty exciting times to be a part of!!
In other news we have welcomed a new member to the Head Office team - Nadia who will be your first point of contact at the front desk.Jessica has also stepped up to a full-time role and is handling committee paperwork.Janelle will take over draws, rodeo paperwork and post rodeo duties.
We also welcome Abbie Smith to the role of NFR Co-Ordinator - Abbie was instrumental in 2025 NFR and we look forward to working with her throughout the year for Scone 2026. All the best for February - travel safe!

CRUZ LEAHY
As we enter the last quarter of the Junior season, Cruz Leahy finds himself in the driver's seat in the Junior Hi Point Cowboy and Junior Breakaway Roping races. The 14-year-old super looper from Yepoon, Qld is also in a fierce battle for the top spot in the Junior Heeling standings. Here's how he feels about his season so far.
"Cruise and Cash are my two main horses that have come with me the wholeseason. Cash is especially special to me as he was the first horse I ever competed on at a rodeo. He was with me for my first Junior Barrel Races where I was 40-50 seconds and thought I was going15 seconds. Fromthat, he took me to theJunior Breakaway Roping and Team Roping where we both grewtogether, learning along the way. He was also the horse that got me to my firstJunior NFR and is set to do it again. Cruise is also very special; he was that step-up horse for me in the Breakaway. While Cash grew with me, Cruise pushed me to grow so I could be on his level. He took me from the 4 seconds to the 2 second runs. He is the hardest running and stoRning horse I have ever rode." .a..::rA..
"Dad has helped me every day, he's been there every night to tow the dummy. He's always there to tell me you are doing this or that andjust trying to take me up to the next level. Shane Kenny has helped me so much with my heeling and breakaway roping. Overall he hasjust been there to always put that finishing touch on me Shane Iker has also ;�/;!� been a huge help to get me down the road. Whether I need a lift, feed, a horse and anything in between, I can always count on Shane. Shane has also really helped my roping, as every weekend we go up there I rope and learn with him."

COOMA RODEO
Cooma, situated on the windswept Monaro Plain in southeastern New South Wales, is the gateway to the Snowy Mountains and a hub for agriculture, tourism, and regional services. Situated 774km south of Canberra and roughly 300km southwest of Sydney along the Monaro Highway, Cooma is also a key stop for visitors heading to ski resorts such as Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass during winter.
On 30 January 2026, the AgriWest Cooma Rodeo was held at the Cooma Showground. The annual Australian Professional Rodeo Association (APRA) event was organised by Cooma Rodeo Incorporated, a volunteer committee supported by local sponsors and the wider community. The rodeo has long been a highlight on the South Coast and Monaro calendar for over 700 years, and this year it did not disappoint. A record crowd of over 2,000 spectators watched competitors from Snowy Monaro, Far South Coast NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia.
With challenging summer heat, humidity and late afternoon storms, the rodeo offered a fantastic community experience with bustling trade and food stalls, creating a great atmosphere for local families and visitors. Committee president Rinsie Jamieson expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from local businesses and sponsors, including AgriWest Cooma, Corkhill Transport, and stock contractor McPhee Rodeo Company. "A big thanks to our competitors, local businesses and community for the support-we will be back even bigger and better next year".
