EXECUTIVE BOARD FROM THE
Hello to all members of the APRA.
Trying to find the words to describe the first twelve months as chairman of the APRA Executive Board has got me at a bit of a loss on how to describe it. From August last year 2024 to now has been a very long drive.
Where I am at now, I would say, is working with a great group of people on the Executive board. I am so appreciative for Joyce McCulloch for joining the board, her knowledge and direction is priceless to me. We knew where we wanted to go but getting going in the right direction was the hardest step, and Joyce was the person to fill that spot.
After a couple of planning meetings, we prioritised the projects that would move the association forward to a more professional standing. For many years there was a lot of talk about change needed for the benefit of the members, the association and the sport of rodeo.
The constitution was a major one, the issue that had been flagged for years and was reinforced to the Executive after engaging lawyers who specialised in constitutions. Currently we are a national organisation under a state law, and too big of an organisation to be structured how we are currently. The upcoming AGM is a very important step in setting the APRA up. Our association will grow Nationally by becoming a Company Limited by Guarantee. This will be a progressive and positive step forward for the APRA since the inception of the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
With the northern run now well underway, I hope everyone is off to a good start with the big shows. Cloncurry, Mt Isa and Townsville are heating up to hand out the big checks to the winners, and I wish everyone the best of luck, travel safe and enjoy the 2025 APRA Northern run of rodeos.

“ My NFR went pretty well. A broken barrier in the first round of the team roping had me a little worried, but I bounced back with a win in the second round. Jayden and I were out the back before the last round, and we knew that the team roping title was going to come down to that round. The breakaway roping and the steer ride was a little different story though. When they read out the Australian champions, I was a little shocked to hear my name and I didn’t realise at the time it was for the Allround title Being named an Australian Champion feels pretty good, but I don’t think it has changed me in anyway
I would like to thank my Mum & Dad for carting me around and helping me with money to get to where I am, to all the partners that have roped with me, and Shane & Leanne for letting me travel with you A massive thankyou to Aaron Bookluck for helping me on the back end And also I would like to mention the horses I was lucky enough to mount on throughout the year, especially Rocky of Tahnee Small’s at the NFR ”

“This year was my last junior year, so I wanted to enjoy it as much as I could. After winning round one and then round two, my mare was feeling good! I knew I had the most points and felt like I was in a great spot going in to round three for the title. I felt so proud of Missy, she has been so consistent and wanted to run for me every time. Being crowned an Australian Champion means a lot to me. I have worked hard for a very long time and have had some great horses over the years to help me I am very proud of it
I cannot thank my parents enough for everything they have done for me to be able to be here and the people who have come along and supported me all the way My horses haven’t had a break for a long time, so going forward we will have a break, I’ll work on my young horses and then we’ll get back into it!”

“I didn’t realise I’d won it until they handed me the buckle to be honest. We knew it was close between myself, Matty and Hank, and I actually thought Hank had won it. Being an Australian Champion feels good. It’s very rewarding, as that was the goal all along. I still have another year left in juniors so I plan to keep riding bulls, keep getting on as many as I can and see where it takes me.

“My NFR was good to me this year. Kai Clark helped me to get three from three roped. Coming in to round three I just knew we had to be clean at the barrier and make a good run. Winning an Australian title means a lot to me, especially when I get to do it with one of my best mates Kai Clark. As this was my last junior NFR, I hope to be steer wrestling and roping calves in this next season. I’m looking forward to being back doing all the events and to hit rodeo road hard in 2026.”

9. Ground Rules - Permit and day members may enter the Saddle Bronc ride, but if the number exceeds the amount of horses available, they will be balloted out. Open members will not be taken out. Rodeo will consist of one round with a slack at 10am on Saturday (this may change depending on entry numbers). Prizemoney will be paid out over one round. All dogs are to be restrained within the competitors camping area and are not to be allowed in the vicinity of the rodeo arena or public area. Any dogs found roaming will be handed over to the pound.
