ANNUAL REPORT 2025

A NOTE FROM OUR LEADERSHIP

Dear Friends,

Austin Street Center is making real breakthroughs in our community because of your support for our mission. Our team is growing, our impact is expanding, and in 2025 we helped 640 individuals move out of homelessness and into stable homes. The momentum is building—and we are pushing forward with purpose.

Each year, over 8,000 people experience homelessness in Dallas. When I arrived at Austin Street more than a decade ago, our shelter often became a long-term destination for many, reflecting a stagnant system. Over time, our organization and community have shifted toward a housing-forward approach that lifts our most vulnerable residents and helps them move forward.

Today, we are proud to be part of the effective end to street sleeping in Dallas’ downtown core, a milestone made possible through collaborations and shared commitment. Our team stands on the frontlines every day, changing futures for unsheltered individuals in our city.

We are also changing the narrative around homelessness. Nearly half of the individuals staying at Austin Street are employed, and in 2025 we partnered with more than 60 employers to help our clients return to work. Homelessness is not a lack of effort, but a lack of opportunity, and opportunity grows when we work together.

As we look ahead, we are excited to expand programs, strengthen partnerships, and continue leading progress in North Texas. Thank you for being part of this movement and for helping build a city where more people have a permanent place to call home.

LANDING THE JOB

Austin Street’s Employment Center helps our clients move from job search to stable employment. With guidance from our dedicated career coach, what can feel like a daunting process becomes a supportive pathway to work and renewed independence.

Many guests arrive after experiencing trauma, victimization, or the sudden loss of resources, making employment feel out of reach. Our onsite Employment Center and computer lab provide a space for motivation and forward momentum, allowing neighbors to access job search tools without leaving the shelter.

Our Employment Center provides:

Resumé development and mock interviews

Individualized employment assessments

Connections to local employers

Work clothing and transportation assistance

Referrals to training and certification programs

Our career coach continues to support clients even after they secure employment—providing follow-up discussions, workplace guidance, and mediation when needed. These ongoing check-ins help guests maintain a steady income, giving them the stability and resources they need to transition into permanent housing and restore their lives.

(Left) Our Career Coach, Crystal Bradley, is eager to help clients with anything employment related; (Top) Assistant Director of Partnerships, Dochele Jennings, guides a client during computer lab hours.
“A light has shined in my life.”

RECLAIMING STABILITY

Michael’s Story

Prior to arriving at Austin Street Center, Michael lived at home in Frisco and worked as a warehouse manager. After being laid off, he struggled to find employment and soon fell behind on his rent. He temporarily moved in with his brother before turning to a local shelter, a transition that left him feeling degraded by his sudden loss of stability.

While that shelter helped Michael reconnect with his faith, it lacked the practical resources and career support he needed to reenter the workforce, so he searched other resources for assistance. Determined to find a path forward, Michael learned about Austin Street and arrived in October 2025, where he found renewed hope.

RECOGNIZING NEW BEGINNINGS

In 2025, we helped 640 individuals transition from our shelter into permanent housing, giving them stability, hope, and a foundation for a brighter future.

The illustration on the right lists everyone who moved out of our shelter and into a home in 2025!

With access to Austin Street’s computer room and employment services, Michael was connected to job opportunities, secured an interview, and was hired quickly. Our career coach also provided bus passes, work boots, and consistent support that helped him get back on track.

Today, Michael is once again working as a warehouse manager with TLC Event Rentals. As of March 2026, with support from an Austin Street case manager and our local partner, The Stewpot, Michael moved out of the shelter and into an apartment of his own.

Now settled in his new home, Michael is happy, grateful, and optimistic about the future.

REDEFINING MENTAL HEALTH CARE

For many individuals at Austin Street Center, access to mental health services is essential to breaking the cycle of homelessness and making housing, employment, and long-term recovery possible. Many clients have experienced significant trauma before or during homelessness, often compounded by untreated mental illness or substance use disorders, making accessible, compassionate care critical.

For the past seven years, Austin Street has provided onsite mental health services, recognizing that consistent support is key to addressing these complex challenges. Our integrated approach allows clients to receive care in a familiar and trusted environment, helping them stabilize, heal, and move forward beyond the shelter.

This work is made possible through strong partnerships with several providers serving clients onsite.

Abounding Prosperity offers weekly walk-in counseling, treatment planning, and recovery support through licensed counselors, particularly for clients whose mental health challenges are connected to substance use.

Integrated Psychotherapeutic Services (IPS) places a full-time Qualified Mental Health Professional at the shelter who screens clients, coordinates psychiatric care, manages medication, and provides crisis intervention.

Parkland Health primarily serves our Sisterhood program with weekly counseling, medication support, and recovery peer specialists - individuals with lived experience who help clients work toward personal goals.

Metrocare Services provides weekly psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and prescriptions, often serving as an entry point for individuals beginning their mental health journey.

In fall 2025, Austin Street soft-launched our Transition Center, a pilot program developed with the DART Police Department and funded by North Texas Behavioral Health Authority and Communities Foundation of Texas which provides crisis respite and stabilization while reducing strain on hospitals and jails.

Supporting Mental Wellness

Cameron J., a psychiatric clinician with Integrated Psychotherapeutic Services (IPS), serves full-time at Austin Street Center, helping guests access critical mental health care. Many clients are seeking support for the first time and are surprised to learn services and medications are available at little to no cost. Through assessments, medication management, and one-onone conversations, Cameron provides a safe space while serving as a liaison between clients and doctors to ensure they receive the care they need.

“Many of the people we serve feel voiceless. We give them a safe space to share their story and get help”

Through our social enterprise, we offer candles and diffusers hand-poured in Dallas using natural fragrances and essential oils. Every purchase supports Austin Street Center, helping provide safe shelter, daily care, and the dignity of a fresh start.

VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY THROUGH SERVICE

At Austin Street, volunteers are an essential part of our shelter. As we expand our services to break the cycle of homelessness for more people than ever before, we lean on dedicated individuals and groups to help us transform lives.

In 2025, thousands of North Texans volunteered at our shelter –serving more than 50% of our meals, sorting and distributing client mail, stepping in during the operation of our inclement weather shelters when extra hands were needed most, and so much more.

With support from our volunteer community, we’re moving toward a future where more individuals can emerge from our shelter with a permanent place to call home.

CORPORATE & FOUNDATION PARTNERS

ADVANCING OUR MISSION TOGETHER

Bank of America

Austin Street is fortunate to welcome many corporate volunteers throughout the year, but in 2025, Bank of America stood out for their exceptional commitment. This group has been involved at the shelter for two years and consistently reaches out to ask how they can support — and we always appreciate their enthusiasm and help.

This past year, Bank of America completed 176 volunteer hours and contributed to a variety of projects. Team members provided extra support at our No Place Like Home and Humble Beginnings events, assisted with annual donation inventory, served meals to clients, and helped sort clothing donations.

But they aren’t just stopping there. The bank is focused on deepening their impact in 2026 and already have several volunteer opportunities scheduled. Thank you, Bank of America, for stepping up in so many ways. Your helping hands play an important role in transforming lives, and we are truly grateful.

DONOR IMPACT

INSPIRING HOPE AND CHANGING LIVES

Merit Coffee

Since 2009, Merit Coffee has served thoughtfully crafted beverages with a commitment to both quality and their local community. With five Dallas locations — including a Deep Ellum café less than a mile from Austin Street Center — Merit recognized the needs of vulnerable neighbors who often visited their café and acted by sharing information about our nearby shelter with individuals seeking help.

Through Merit’s Light the Way program, the company acts as a positive force in their community and supports local nonprofits through give-back days. In 2025, Merit selected Austin Street as a Light the Way partner after witnessing the number of unsheltered individuals in the neighborhood and raised $10,000 throughout the year for our shelter.

Thank you, Merit Coffee, for your meaningful generosity that helps our neighbors move towards lasting change.

TeamIzzy Foundation

North Texan Isabelle “Izzy” Martin was inspired to help others from a young age. Even after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, her desire to make a difference never faltered — it only grew.

Following Izzy’s passing at age 12, the Foundation was created to honor her legacy. Over the past few years, TeamIzzy has partnered with Austin Street, first donating 500 snack packs during a volunteer day. Recently, that generosity grew to 1,000 snack packs, making an even greater impact for our clients.

“At Merit Coffee, our mission extends beyond just brewing the perfect cup of coffee; we're dedicated to being a positive force in our Texas communities. For over a decade, our Light the Way program has been dedicated to improving the lives of those in our San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas communities. We pride ourselves on maintaining long-standing partnerships with local non-profits that are committed to making a difference. Our current non-profit partners include Snack Pak 4 Kids SA, Feed My Sheep, United Greater Way for Austin, and Austin Street Center.”
