Austin Prep Retreat Curriculum Guide for Grades 6–12
A Seven‑Year Journey of Faith, Community, Purpose, and Mission
Dear Austin Prep Families, Students, and Faculty,
At Austin Prep, our retreat program is more than a series of experiences. It is a sacred journey, grounded in our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and shaped by the Augustinian values of Truth, Unity, and Love. Rooted in the Gospel and inspired by the life of St. Augustine, these retreats invite students to pause, pray, and encounter Christ as they grow in faith, community, and purpose.
Through a carefully designed seven-year progression from Grade 6 through Grade 12, the Austin Prep Retreat Program creates intentional spaces where students can experience God’s love, reflect on their identity and calling, build meaningful relationships, and grow in courage, integrity, and compassion. Each retreat meets students where they are developmentally, while guiding them along a coherent spiritual arc that moves from belonging and trust to purpose, mission, and being sent forth.
This Retreat Curriculum Guide outlines the vision and foundations of our program, including its Augustinian roots and developmental rationale, and presents the retreat modules for each grade level. Within these pages, you will find retreat schedules, talks, prayer services, activities, reflection prompts, and leader guidance, as well as supporting materials. Together, these elements form a unified approach to spiritual formation that educates the mind, forms the heart, and inspires the soul.
May this guide support all who lead and participate in retreats, and may each retreat be an invitation for our students to encounter Christ more deeply, grow in unity with one another, and become the people God is calling them to be.
With gratitude and blessings in Christ,
Sister Maria G. Nassali, DM
Assistant Head of School | Mission and Ministry
Retreat Program Overview
Mission
Statement
The Austin Prep Retreat Program forms students in the Catholic Augustinian tradition by nurturing faith, fostering community, and guiding young people toward lives of compassion, purpose, and service. Through a seven‑year sequence of retreats, students encounter God, deepen relationships, and grow into the people they are called to be.
Our mission is to create sacred spaces where students can:
• Experience God’s love.
• Reflect on their identity and purpose.
• Build meaningful community.
• Grow in courage, integrity, and compassion.
• Discern how they are called to serve the world.
Each retreat is an invitation to step away from daily routines and listen for God’s voice.
Purpose of the Retreat Program
The retreat program is designed to accompany students through every stage of adolescence. Each retreat:
• Meets students where they are developmentally.
• Builds upon the themes of the previous year.
• Encourages reflection, prayer, and community.
• Supports emotional, spiritual, and moral growth.
• Helps students understand their identity in Christ.
• Prepares them for leadership, service, and mission.
The retreats are not isolated events — they form a continuous spiritual journey from Grade 6 through Grade 12.
Augustinian Spiritual Foundations
Austin Prep’s retreat program is rooted in the spirituality of St. Augustine, whose life and writings emphasize:
Veritas (Truth) – Seeking God’s truth in ourselves, in one another, and in the world.
Unitas (Unity) – Building community grounded in mutual respect, compassion, and shared purpose.
Caritas (Love) – Living with generosity, empathy, and a heart for service.
These values shape every retreat, every activity, and every moment of reflection.
Developmental Rationale
The Austin Prep Retreat Program is intentionally aligned with the emotional, social, and spiritual development of students at each grade level. Across grades 6–12, the retreats form a coherent, age appropriate progression that supports students as they grow in faith, identity, and purpose.
Grades 6 & 7 — Early Adolescence
Students need belonging, friendship, kindness, and reassurance of God’s love.
Grade 8 — Transition to High School
Students need courage, trust, and confidence as they face change.
Grade 9 — Beginning High School
Students need grounding, identity, and a sense of spiritual foundation.
Grade 10 — Moral Formation
Students need integrity, conviction, and courage to navigate peer pressure.
Grade 11 — Discernment & Direction
Students need purpose, guidance, and strength for the journey ahead.
Grade 12 — Mission & Legacy
Students need affirmation, blessing, and a sense of being sent forth.
This progression ensures that each retreat builds upon the last, forming a coherent spiritual arc.
A Seven-Year Journey of Faith and Formation
Across grades 6–12, students participate in a sequence of retreats that introduce and deepen core themes over time, reflecting both their developmental needs and the Augustinian values of the Austin Prep community.
• Belonging
• Trust
• Identity
• Courage
• Purpose
• Mission
• Legacy
Each retreat builds upon the last, forming a cohesive pathway of faith and formation that prepares students not only for graduation, but for lives of meaning, service, and leadership.
The 6–12 Spiritual Arc
The retreat program follows a clear spiritual movement from early adolescence to young adulthood:
6/7 Growing Together in God’s Love I am loved.
Walking in Faith, Not Fear God is with me. 9 Rooted in Christ, Growing in Grace I am growing. 10 Anchored in Truth, Called to Courage I can stand firm. 11 Guided by Purpose, Strengthened for the Journey I am being guided. 12 Sent with Purpose, Called to Shine I am ready to go forth.

Talk #1
— Growing in God’s Love
Scripture:
“I praise You, for I am wonderfully made.” — Psalm 139:14
Growing up can feel confusing sometimes. You’re changing, learning, discovering new things about yourself and the world. And sometimes you might wonder:
• Am I enough?
• Do people like me?
• Where do I fit in?
Here’s the truth: You are wonderfully made. God created you with love, on purpose, and with a purpose.
God’s love is not something you earn. It’s something you already have.
You grow in God’s love when you:
• Believe you matter
• Treat yourself with kindness
• Try your best
• Learn from mistakes
• Ask for help
• Care for others
Growing doesn’t always feel easy. But God is with you in every step — cheering you on, guiding you, and helping you become the person you’re meant to be.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us grow in Your love. Help us see ourselves the way You see us. Amen.
Small Group Activity #1 — My Growing Tree
Purpose:
To help students reflect on their growth.
Instructions:
Students draw a tree with three parts:
• Roots: What grounds me (family, faith, friends, values)
• Trunk: What I’m learning (skills, habits, strengths)
• Branches: How I want to grow (goals, hopes, dreams)
Students share one part with the group.
Leader Notes:
Affirm every student. Keep the tone positive and encouraging.
Icebreaker #2 — The Friendship Web
Purpose:
To show how connected we are.
Instructions:
1. Students stand in a circle.
2. Leader holds a ball of yarn and says something like: “I’m grateful for people who make me laugh.”
3. Leader tosses the yarn to someone across the circle.
4. That person shares something and tosses it on.
5. A web forms — showing we’re all connected.
Debrief:
We are stronger when we support one another.
Talk #2 — Growing in Friendship
Scripture:
“Love one another as I have loved you.” — John 15:12
Friendships are a huge part of middle school. They can be amazing — full of fun, laughter, and support. But they can also be confusing or challenging.
Growing in friendship means learning how to:
• Be kind
• Listen
• Forgive
• Include others
• Stand up for what’s right
• Be a good friend even when it’s hard
Jesus tells us to love one another the way He loves us — with patience, kindness, and understanding.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to try your best to bring love into your friendships.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us be good friends. Help us love others the way You love us. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — Building Each Other Up
Purpose:
To help students affirm one another.
Instructions:
1. Each student gets a paper with their name at the top.
2. Papers are passed around the circle.
3. Each person writes one positive word or phrase.
4. Students read their papers at the end.
Leader Notes:
This activity is powerful — keep the tone gentle and supportive.

Purpose:

To encourage kindness and teamwork.
Instructions:
Students receive kindness cards with simple challenges:
• Give someone a compliment.
• Invite someone new to sit with you.
• Hold the door for someone.
• Say “thank you” to an adult in the building.
• Help someone who looks left out.
Students complete as many as they can in 10 minutes.
Talk #3 — Growing in Faith
Scripture:
“We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19
Faith grows just like anything else — slowly, gently, and with care. You grow in faith when you:
• Pray
• Ask questions
• Try to do what’s right
• Learn from mistakes
• Trust God
• Show love
Faith isn’t about being perfect. It’s about letting God be part of your life — in the big things and the small things.
God loves you. God is with you. God is helping you grow every day.
Closing Prayer:
God, help our faith grow strong. Help us trust You and love others. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Faith Garden

To help students imagine how their faith can grow.

God of courage and comfort, Thank You for bringing us together today. As we prepare for new challenges and new beginnings, help us trust that You walk with us. Calm our fears, strengthen our hearts, and guide our steps with Your love. Amen.
Theme Introduction
Today’s retreat is about courage — not the kind that means you’re never afraid, but the kind that means you keep going even when you are afraid. As you prepare for high school, you may feel excited, nervous, or unsure. This retreat reminds you of one powerful truth:
You never walk alone. God is with you — always.
Icebreaker #1 — Stand Up If…
Purpose:
To help students see that they share similar experiences and feelings.
Instructions:
Leader reads statements such as:
• “Stand up if you’ve ever felt nervous about a new school year.”
• “Stand up if you’ve ever tried something new even when you were scared.”
• “Stand up if you’ve ever helped someone who was afraid.”
• “Stand up if you want to grow in courage.”
Students stand silently when it applies to them.
Debrief:
We all experience fear — and we all have courage inside us.
Talk #1 — Faith Over Fear
Scripture:
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you.” — Joshua 1:9
Fear is something everyone feels. Fear of change. Fear of failure. Fear of not fitting in. Fear of the unknown.
As you prepare for high school, you might be wondering:
• Will I make friends?
• Will the work be too hard?
• Will I fit in?
• Am I ready?
Here’s the truth: Courage isn’t the absence of fear — it’s choosing to trust God even when you’re afraid.
God says: “Be strong and courageous… for I am with you.”
You don’t have to be brave on your own. God gives you strength. God gives you courage. God walks with you into every new beginning.
Faith doesn’t magically erase fear. But it gives you something stronger to hold onto.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us choose faith over fear. Give us courage for the journey ahead. Amen.
Small Group Activity #1 — My Mountains & Valleys
Purpose:
To help students reflect on challenges and moments of courage.
Instructions:
Students draw a simple landscape:
• Mountains: Challenges they’ve faced
• Valleys: Times they felt afraid
• Sunrise: A moment of courage or hope
Students share one part with the group.
Leader Notes:
Normalize fear. Celebrate courage.
Icebreaker #2 — The Trust Bridge
Purpose:
To build trust and teamwork.
Instructions:
1. Students form two lines facing each other.
2. Each pair gently taps hands together as the person walks through the “bridge.”
3. Everyone gets a turn walking through.
Debrief:
We support one another. We don’t face challenges alone.
Talk #2 — God Walks With Us
Scripture:
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” — Isaiah 41:10
Think about a time you felt scared or overwhelmed. Maybe it was a test, a new team, a difficult moment with friends, or a big change.
In those moments, it can feel like you’re walking alone. But God promises:
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
God walks with you:
• Into new schools
• Into new friendships
• Into new challenges
• Into new responsibilities
• Into new dreams
God doesn’t walk behind you or ahead of you. God walks with you — step by step.
Even when you don’t feel brave, God is your strength. Even when you don’t feel ready, God prepares the way. Even when you feel alone, God is closer than you think.
Closing
Prayer:
God, thank You for walking with us. Help us feel Your presence in every step. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — Footprints of Faith
Purpose:
To help students recognize God’s presence in their lives.
Instructions:
Students trace their foot on paper. Inside the footprint, they write:
• A time they felt supported
• A time they felt guided
• A time they felt encouraged
• A time they felt stronger than expected
Leader Notes:
Help students see God’s presence in everyday moments.
Icebreaker #3 — The Courage Circle
Purpose:
To build confidence and community.
Instructions:
Students stand in a circle. Each student steps forward and completes the sentence:
• “I am brave when I…”
• “I feel strong when I…”
• “I want to grow in courage by…”
Debrief:
Courage looks different for everyone — and that’s okay.
Talk #3 — Stepping Into High School with God
Scripture:
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” — Psalm 56:3
High school is a big step. It’s new. It’s different. It’s exciting — and yes, it can be scary.
But here’s the good news: You don’t step into high school alone. God steps with you.
When you feel nervous — God is with you. When you feel unsure — God is with you. When you feel excited — God is with you. When you feel overwhelmed — God is with you.
God doesn’t ask you to be perfect. God asks you to trust.
Trust that you are strong. Trust that you are capable. Trust that you are loved. Trust that you are never alone.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us step into high school with courage and trust. Walk with us in every moment. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Courage Commitment
Purpose:
To help students set a spiritual intention for high school.
Instructions:
Students complete the sentence: “As I enter high school, I want God to help me…”
Examples:
• “…be more confident.”
• “…make good friends.”
• “…stay true to myself.”
• “…try new things.”
• “…be brave when I’m nervous.”
Students may share if comfortable.

Talk #1 — Rooted in Christ
Scripture:
“Let your roots grow down into Him.” — Colossians 2:7
Think about a tree. The stronger the roots, the stronger the tree. The deeper the roots, the higher it can grow. Your life is the same way.
High school brings:
• New challenges
• New pressures
• New opportunities
• New expectations
To grow in the right direction, you need strong roots. Roots give you:
• Stability
• Identity
• Strength
• Purpose
Being rooted in Christ means:
• Knowing you are loved
• Knowing you belong
• Knowing you have purpose
• Knowing you are never alone
When your roots are deep, you can handle the storms. When your roots are strong, you can grow into who God created you to be.

Debrief:
We all have strengths — and we grow by using them.
Talk #2 — Growing in Grace
Scripture:
“My grace is sufficient for you.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9
High school can feel overwhelming. There will be moments when you feel:
• stressed
• tired
• unsure
• not enough
But here’s the truth: God’s grace meets you exactly where you are. Grace is:
• God’s strength in your weakness
• God’s love in your mistakes
• God’s peace in your stress
• God’s presence in your struggles
Grace doesn’t demand perfection. Grace invites growth. You grow in grace when you:
• Ask for help
• Forgive yourself
• Try again
• Show kindness
• Trust God
You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to stay open to God’s grace.

God, help us grow in Your grace. Give us strength when we feel weak. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — Grace Moments
Purpose:
To help students recognize God’s grace in their lives.

Students stand in a circle. Each student completes one sentence:
• “One thing I’m proud of is…”
• “One thing I want to improve is…”
• “One thing I value is…”
Debrief:
Identity is something we grow into — not something we have to figure out all at once.
Talk
#3 — “Becoming Who God Created Me to Be”
Scripture:
“I am the vine; you are the branches.” — John 15:5
God created you with a purpose. You are not an accident. You are not random. You are not “just another student.”
You are:
• gifted
• loved
• chosen
• called
High school is a time to discover:
• your strengths
• your passions
• your values
• your identity
You don’t have to become someone else. You don’t have to fit into a mold. You don’t have to pretend. God invites you to become your best self — the person you were created to be. And you don’t grow alone. You grow connected to Christ, like branches connected to a vine.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us become who You created us to be. Guide our growth and shape our hearts. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Growth Plan
Purpose:
To help students set goals for spiritual and personal growth.

• “Cross the line if you’ve ever stood up for someone.”
• “Cross the line if you want to grow in courage.”
Students cross silently when it applies.
Debrief:
We all face pressure — and we all have courage inside us.
Talk #1 — Anchored in Truth
Scripture:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
Life can feel like a storm sometimes. Pressure from friends. Pressure from school. Pressure to fit in. Pressure to be perfect.
When the waves get strong, you need an anchor.
Truth is that anchor.
Truth about who you are:
• Loved
• Valuable
• Created with purpose
• Made in God’s image
Truth about what matters:
• Kindness
• Integrity
• Respect
• Compassion
Truth about God:
• God is with you
• God strengthens you
• God guides you
• God loves you
When you are anchored in truth, you don’t drift with the crowd. You don’t lose yourself. You don’t collapse under pressure. You stand firm.
Closing Prayer:
God, anchor us in Your truth. Help us stand firm in who we are. Amen.
Small Group Activity #1 — What Grounds Me
Purpose:
To help students identify their anchors.
Instructions:
Students draw an anchor and label:
• Values that ground me
• People who support me
• Truths I believe
• Strengths I rely on
Leader Notes:
Encourage honesty and self awareness. Students share one anchor point.
Icebreaker #2 — The Pressure Scenarios
Purpose:
To help students think about real life situations.
Instructions:
Leader reads scenarios such as:
• A friend pressures you to skip class
• Someone spreads a rumor
• You see someone being excluded
• A group encourages you to cheat
Students move to corners labeled:
• “Easy choice”
• “Hard choice”
• “Unsure”
Debrief:
Pressure is real — but so is courage.
Talk #2
— Courage in the Face of Pressure
Scripture:
“Be strong and courageous.” — Joshua 1:9
Courage isn’t loud. It isn’t dramatic. It isn’t always visible.
Courage is:
• Saying no when everyone else says yes
• Walking away from gossip
• Standing up for someone
• Admitting a mistake
• Choosing kindness
• Being yourself
Courage is doing what is right even when it’s hard. Peer pressure is powerful — but God’s strength is greater. God says: “Be strong and courageous.” Not because you’re perfect. Not because you’re fearless. But because God is with you.
Closing Prayer:
God, give us courage when we feel pressure. Help us choose what is right. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — Courage Cards
Purpose:
To help students identify courageous responses.
Instructions:
Students receive cards with real life scenarios. In groups, they discuss:
• What is the pressure?
• What is the courageous choice?
• What truth helps me stand firm?
Groups share one insight.
Icebreaker #3 — The Integrity Challenge
Purpose:
To help students reflect on integrity.
Instructions:
Students stand in a circle. Leader reads statements such as:
• “Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching.”
• “Integrity means being honest with myself.”
• “Integrity means keeping my word.”
Students step forward if they agree.
Debrief:
Integrity is a daily choice.
Talk #3 — Living with Integrity
Scripture:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world.” — Romans 12:2 Integrity means being the same person:
• in public
• in private
• with friends
• with family
• online
• at school
Integrity means:
• Being honest
• Being trustworthy
• Being consistent
• Being real
The world will try to shape you. Pressure will try to change you. Fear will try to silence you. But God calls you to stand firm. You don’t have to follow the crowd. You don’t have to pretend. You don’t have to compromise who you are.
You are called to live with integrity — to be the person God created you to be.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us live with integrity. Give us strength to be true to ourselves and to You. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Courage Commitment
Purpose:
To help students set a personal intention.
Instructions:
Students complete:
• One truth I want to live by:
• One pressure I want to resist:
• One courageous choice I want to make:
• One way I want to grow in integrity:
Students may share if comfortable.
Closing Prayer Service
Scripture:
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
Silent Reflection:
1 minute of quiet prayer.
Prayer Intentions:
Leader: “For courage to stand firm in truth…”
Group: “Lord, hear our prayer.”
Final Blessing
May God anchor your heart in truth, strengthen your spirit with courage, and guide your steps with integrity. May you stand firm in who you are and who God calls you to be. Amen.
Reflection Pages
1. What truth do I want to anchor myself in?
2. Where do I feel the most pressure?
3. How can I grow in courage and integrity?

God of wisdom and purpose, Thank You for gathering us today. As we reflect on our gifts, our future, and our journey, help us trust that You are guiding us. Give us clarity where we feel confused, strength where we feel tired, and hope where we feel uncertain. Walk with us today and always. Amen.
Theme Introduction
Junior year is intense. There’s pressure, expectation, responsibility, and uncertainty. You’re asked to make decisions about your future — even when you’re still figuring out who you are.
Today’s retreat is a reminder:
You don’t have to figure everything out. God is guiding you. Step by step. Day by day.
Icebreaker #1 — The Life Map
Purpose:
To help students reflect on their journey so far.
Instructions:
Students draw a simple “life map” including:
• High points
• Low points
• Turning points
• People who shaped them
• Moments of growth
Students share one moment with the group.
Debrief:
Your story matters — and God has been present in every chapter.
Talk #1 — God Has a Purpose for You
Scripture:
“For I know the plans I have for you…” — Jeremiah 29:11 You were created on purpose, with purpose, for a purpose. Your purpose isn’t something you “earn.” It’s something you discover — slowly, gently, over time. God’s purpose for you is rooted in:
• Your gifts
• Your passions
• Your values
• Your compassion
• Your desire to make a difference
Purpose isn’t just about careers. Purpose is about who you are becoming. God says: “I know the plans I have for you.”
Not: “You should know the plan.” But: “I know the plan — trust Me.”
You don’t need all the answers. You just need to stay open to God’s guidance.
Closing Prayer:
God, help us trust that You have a purpose for our lives. Guide our hearts and our choices. Amen.
Small Group Activity #1 — Gifts & Strengths Inventory
Purpose:
To help students identify their God given gifts.
Instructions:
Students complete prompts:
• I am good at…
• People say I’m gifted in…
• I feel alive when I…
• I want to grow in…
Students share one gift.
Leader Notes:
Affirm strengths. Encourage students who struggle to name their gifts.
Icebreaker #2 — The Compass Corners
Purpose:
To help students reflect on direction.
Instructions:
Four corners of the room are labeled:
• North: I know where I’m going
• South: I’m unsure
• East: I’m exploring
• West: I feel lost
Students move to the corner that fits them.
Debrief:
Everyone is in a different place — and that’s okay.
Talk #2 — Listening for God’s Guidance
Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart…” — Proverbs 3:5–6
God speaks in many ways:
• Through people
• Through opportunities
• Through challenges
• Through silence
• Through prayer
• Through your gifts
• Through your desires
• Through your heart
But to hear God, you need to slow down. Guidance often comes as:
• A nudge
• A feeling
• A moment of clarity
• A sense of peace
• A door opening
• A door closing
God doesn’t shout. God whispers. And God whispers: “Trust Me. I am guiding you.”
Closing Prayer:
God, help us listen for Your voice. Guide our steps and calm our hearts. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — Where Is God Leading Me?
Purpose:
To help students reflect on direction.
Instructions:
Students complete:
• I feel drawn toward…
• I feel called to…
• I feel uncertain about…
• I want God to guide me in…
Students share one insight.
#3 — The Encouragement Circle
Purpose:
To build community and support.
Instructions:
Students stand in a circle. Each student receives a card with their name. Cards are passed around, and each person writes one encouraging message.
Debrief:
We are strengthened by the support of others.
Icebreaker
Talk #3 — Strength for the Journey
Scripture:
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” — Isaiah 40:31
Junior year is exhausting. There’s pressure from:
• School
• Activities
• Family
• Future plans
• Expectations
• Yourself
You may feel tired. You may feel overwhelmed. You may feel like you’re running out of strength.
But God promises: “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
God gives strength when:
• You feel weak
• You feel stressed
• You feel unsure
• You feel alone
Strength doesn’t always look like power. Sometimes strength looks like:
• Trying again
• Asking for help
• Resting
• Trusting
• Letting go
• Beginning again
God gives you strength for the journey — one day at a time.
Closing Prayer:
God, renew our strength. Give us hope, courage, and peace. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Purpose Statement
Purpose:
To help students articulate a sense of calling.
Instructions:
Students complete:
“I believe God is calling me to…”
Examples:
• “…use my gifts to help others.”
• “…be a leader.”
• “…grow in confidence.”
• “…serve with compassion.”
• “…trust myself more.”
Students may share if comfortable.
Closing Prayer Service
Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” — Proverbs 3:5
Silent Reflection: Prayer Intentions:
1 minute of quiet prayer.
Leader: “For guidance in the year ahead…” Group: “Lord, hear our prayer.”

God of our past, present, and future, Thank You for the journey that has brought us to this moment. As we prepare to step into new beginnings, help us remember who we are, celebrate who we’ve become, and trust who You are calling us to be. Fill us with courage, hope, and purpose. Amen.
Theme Introduction
This is your final retreat at Austin Prep. You’ve grown, struggled, learned, changed, and become more fully yourself. Today is about three things:
• Looking back with gratitude
• Looking within with honesty
• Looking forward with courage
You are not just graduating. You are being sent — with purpose, with gifts, and with God’s blessing.
Icebreaker #1 — The Timeline Walk
Purpose:
To help students reflect on their journey through school.
Instructions:
A long rope or tape line is placed on the floor. Sections are labeled:
• Elementary School
• Middle School
• Freshman Year
• Sophomore Year
• Junior Year
• Senior Year
Leader reads prompts such as:
• “Stand where you felt the most growth.”
• “Stand where you faced a challenge.”
• “Stand where you made a lifelong friend.”
• “Stand where you felt God’s presence.”
Debrief:
Your story is sacred — and every chapter matters.
Talk #1 — Looking Back: The Story That Formed Me
Scripture:
“He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.” — Philippians 1:6
Your story is not random. Your story is not accidental. Your story is a work of God — still unfolding.
Think about:
• The people who shaped you
• The challenges that strengthened you
• The moments that changed you
• The mistakes that taught you
• The blessings that lifted you
• The experiences that formed you
Every moment — good or hard — has helped you become who you are today. God has been writing your story all along. And the story is not finished. You are still becoming. You are still growing. You are still being shaped. And God promises to complete the good work begun in you.
Closing Prayer:
God, thank You for the story that has shaped me. Help me see Your hand in every chapter. Amen.
Small Group Activity #1 — My Story Stones
Purpose:
To help students reflect on defining moments.
Instructions:
Students receive three stones (or paper cutouts):
• Stone 1: A moment that challenged me
• Stone 2: A moment that changed me
• Stone 3: A moment that blessed me
Students write a word or symbol on each stone and share one with the group.
Leader Notes:
Honor vulnerability. Affirm each student’s journey.
Icebreaker #2 — The Compliment Circle
Purpose:
To build community and affirm identity.
Instructions:
Students sit in a circle. Each student receives a card with their name. Cards are passed around, and each person writes one affirmation.
Debrief:
You are seen. You are valued. You matter.
Talk #2 — Embracing My Gifts & Calling
Scripture:
“Here I am, Lord. Send me.” — Isaiah 6:8
You have gifts — real, meaningful, powerful gifts.
Gifts like:
• Compassion
• Leadership
• Creativity
• Courage
• Intelligence
• Humor
• Empathy
• Determination
• Faith
Your gifts are not accidents. They are part of your calling. Your calling is not just a career. Your calling is how you bring God’s love into the world.
You are called to:
• Bring light
• Bring hope
• Bring kindness
• Bring justice
• Bring compassion
• Bring truth
God doesn’t call “the equipped.” He equips the called. And God whispers: “Here I am, Lord. Send me.”
Closing Prayer:
God, help me embrace my gifts and use them for Your purpose. Amen.
Small Group Activity #2 — My Gifts, My Mission
Purpose:
To help students connect gifts to purpose.
Instructions:
Students complete:
• My greatest gifts are…
• I feel called to…
• I want to use my gifts to…
• God may be sending me to…
Students share one insight.
Icebreaker #3 — The Legacy Line
Purpose:
To help students reflect on the impact they’ve made.
Instructions:
A line is placed on the floor. Leader reads statements:
• “Step forward if you’ve helped someone this year.”
• “Step forward if you’ve grown as a leader.”
• “Step forward if you’ve made someone feel included.”
• “Step forward if you’ve made a difference at Austin Prep.”
Debrief:
Your legacy is already unfolding.
Talk #3 — Sent Forth to Shine
Scripture:
“You are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:14
You are about to step into a new chapter — college, work, service, adulthood. It’s exciting. It’s overwhelming. It’s unknown.
But here’s the truth: You are ready.
You are ready because:
• You have grown
• You have learned
• You have struggled
• You have overcome
• You have been shaped
• You have been loved
You are the light of the world. Not someday. Not when you “figure it out.” Not when you feel perfect. Now. Today. As you are.
God is sending you forth — to shine, to serve, to love, to lead, to make a difference.
Closing Prayer:
God, send me forth with courage and purpose. Help me shine Your light wherever I go. Amen.
Small Group Activity #3 — My Senior Blessing Card
Purpose:
To help students create a personal sending prayer.
Instructions:
Students write a blessing for themselves:
• “As I leave Austin Prep, I pray that…”
• “God, help me…”
• “Guide me as I…”
• “Bless me with…”
Cards are collected and blessed during the closing rite.
Closing Prayer Service & Sending Rite
Scripture:
“You are the light of the world.” — Matthew 5:14
1 minute of quiet prayer.
Leader places hands over the group:
May God bless you and keep you. May God guide your steps and strengthen your heart. May God send you forth to shine with courage, compassion, and purpose. Amen.

The Augustinian Values Institutes
Student Augustinian Values Institute (SAVI)
The Student Augustinian Values Institute (SAVI) is a three day, retreat style experience that brings together students from Augustinian high schools across North America to explore the core Augustinian values of Truth, Unity, and Love. Held each academic year in the fall or spring, SAVI rotates among schools within the Augustinian network.
During the Institute, students engage in presentations, small group discussions, prayer, service, and community building activities designed to help them reflect on how Augustinian values shape their lives, relationships, and school communities. Participating schools typically select sophomores or juniors who demonstrate leadership potential and a desire to grow in faith and service.
Students return to their campuses renewed, inspired, and prepared to strengthen the Augustinian spirit of their schools and to live these values more intentionally in their daily lives. It is organized and sponsored by the Augustinian Secondary Education Association (ASEA).
SAVI Schedule Spring 2026, Fall 2026, Spring 2028, Fall 2028, Spring 2030, Fall 2030.
Augustinian Values
Institute
(AVI)
The Augustinian Values Institute (AVI) brings together faculty, staff, and administrators from Augustinian schools across North America for a multi day retreat experience focused on deepening their understanding of the Augustinian tradition and strengthening the shared mission of Augustinian education. Hosted by a different school each academic year, AVI includes presentations, prayer, community building, and collaborative workshops.
Central to AVI is the theme “Build the City of God,” drawn from St. Augustine’s vision. In Augustinian spirituality, the City of God represents a community rooted in Truth, Unity, and Love—people who seek truth together, live in harmony, and serve one another with compassion. Participants reflect on how this vision can be embodied in their schools through relationships, curriculum, leadership, and daily life.
By the conclusion of the Institute, participants return to their campuses with renewed purpose and practical insights to strengthen their school’s Augustinian identity and help their communities more fully “build the City of God.” Since 2004, the Institute continues to draw full cohort from around the world in support of the Augustinian mission.
AVI Schedule Spring 2025, Fall 2025, Spring 2027, Fall 2027, Spring 2029, Fall 2029.
Reflection on Retreats
As outlined in the Retreat Curriculum Guide, the Austin Prep retreat program is a coordinated, grade by grade experience that supports students’ spiritual growth alongside their academic development. Retreats are intentionally placed throughout the year to provide structured opportunities for reflection, prayer, and community at each stage of the student journey.
The program spans grades 6–12 and includes both on campus and off campus experiences, with overnight retreats in Grades 8 and 12 marking key transitional moments. Each retreat builds upon the last, reinforcing a coherent progression of formation over time.
Student leadership is a defining element of the program. Through the Retreat Leader Program, upper school students assist in facilitating retreats, supporting peer reflection, and modeling servant leadership within the community.
In addition to student retreats, opportunities for faculty and parents extend the School’s shared commitment to faith formation and reflection across the broader Austin Prep community.
