Here we are with one-quarter of the lions’ year over. Over this past weekend I attended the 1-M district convention where the district lions elected a Governor elect, a First Vice District Governor elect and a Lions of Illinois trustee. I will let them tell you who those lions were and not spoil what is theirs to report. Next Month I will be attending the Galesburg Noon Lions 100th anniversary event. I feel so honored to have been invited to such a milestone event. And so, the busy time begins. December has the Council of Governors meeting, January is the Governor Elect/ First Vice Governor Elect Training, February is another Council meeting, a forum is in the planning
stages for march, and District Conventions are beginning soon. All this leads up to the State Convention. Add to that the zoom meetings that are scheduled and working my own club and district events will keep me busy for the remining lions’ year. I LOVE IT. There is nothing better than participating in events with lions from around the State, making and renewing friendships and enjoying the company of fellow lions. I urge you all to become involved in not only your clubs, but also your districts and the State. I will conclude by quoting from a Johnny Cash song to describe the state of the State, “We are in pretty good shape considering the state we are in.” I can tell you that we are moving ahead and seeing improvement every day. The governors are working hard, and their efforts are showing in all the areas of Membership, Service, and Leadership. Congratulations to them and to you, the true reason for our success. Greetings from your MD-1 GLT state chairperson. We have been and continue to be busy. We received our reimbursement grant money from Lions Clubs International (LCI) for hosting our August 2021 Regional Lions Leadership Institute (RLLI). We have been approved for a grant for the upcoming GETS/VGETS training to be held January 14-16, 2022 at the Holiday Inn & Suites, East Peoria, Illinois. We are presently seeking hotel bids for the 2022 RLLI. After the last Council meeting, we
held our GAT Summit. It was well attended and many GLT ideas were shared with each attendee of the GLT breakout learning a new way to host our annual district’s club leadership training. Every MD-1 district was represented. That speaks volumes about our desire to move MD-1 forward. Subsequently your District MD-1 GLT’s met via Zoom to review our district governor’s goals and action plans. This review showed that most GLT’s and their respective governors are meeting their goals and objectives (action plan). These reviews and summits are a great way for us to keep moving forward. District 1-CS’ district governor and invited members recently met with International Director Bob Block to discuss leadership and membership within that district. Regarding leadership, they had three Lions step forward to be district governors. They are very happy to now have a line of succession.

As has been reiterated, LCI has said out for you. no more repeat DG’s, no more PDG’s as ZC’s, and ZC’s terms have Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, been limited to three years. The purpose of the meeting was to promote leadership and membership. At the conclusion of the meeting Lion Jeff Gunning, Harrisburg Town & Country Lions Club volunteered to be the district’s first vice governor. Lion Zachary Frost, Herrin-Energy Lions Club, volunteered to be the district’s second vice governor. Lion Heather Abell Castlebery, Carterville Lions Club, will follow Lion Zachary and subsequently become the second vice governor. District Governor Helen Johnson said she needs zone chairs. Several representatives from those in attendance agreed to search their respective clubs for candidates for zone chairs. ---------------------------------------
In addition to the presentation to Leaps of Love the Highland Lions donated to LCIF for Disaster Relief, purchased diabetes education materials for the local hospitals, and donated to Leader Dog. The donation to Leader Dog went through the Lions of Illinois Foundation’s Birdies for Charity. --------------------------------------One of the Lions Club's Global Causes is Childhood Cancer. September was Childhood Cancer Awareness Month so our Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Lions Club donated $500 to the Cals Angel's Glow Walk. We also donated $100 to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

The Amboy Lions Club Draw Down 18 The Illinois Lion & Leo
held on September 11 was a big success as it returned to its normal format this year. The food served by the Lee County Pork Producers was delicious and the attendees all had a good time. The big winners of the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Doug Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Dinges. The Club thanks the local residents for their support again this year and the area businesses and individuals who donated money and prizes to make the evening so successful. In other news, a club member brightened up the Amboy Welcome signs this week with fall decorations donated by Deb and Rick Cardot. Lion Jim Travi is finalizing plans for the Amboy Central School's annual 4th grade class pumpkin decorating event to be held in early October. The pumpkins for this event are being donated by Pfeiffer Farms Fresh Market from Ashton and Meusel's Amboy Dairy Delight are donating tokens that the students will be able to redeem for ice cream cones in the spring. Lion Jeff Lilja is chairing a feasibility study committee to investigate adding an
all-inclusive playground equipment to one of the city parks. This playground equipment will be a major undertaking for the club and donations are welcome. The Club invites anyone interested in the Lions to attend one of its meetings to learn more about the Club and how to join. The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 6:00 pm. The Orangeville Lions recently spearheaded a collection of greatly needed items for the Afghan Refugees who were relocated to the Ft. McCoy Army base in Wisconsin from Afghanistan. The Freeport Lions Club and two area churches

has succeeded. This year the club advertised on the Genoa Facebook site and our own Facebook site and lo and behold we sold just over 400 plants for $10 each. Yeager Farm in Cortland provided over 370 of the mums that we needed. Lion Gene Bradford was instrumental in this fundraiser, tending the plants in his driveway for two weeks and selling more than 40 plants himself. Lions Pacey and VanDerHeyden managed the orders and inventory spreadsheet for the month of sales. Genoa Lions Board members delivered over 300 plants in a week. The Lions will be happy to sell and deliver (Genoa & Kingston area) mum plants again next year so look for our Facebook ads.
The Genoa Lions would like to thank the fine folks in DeKalb County for supporting our club’s fall fundraiser and buying mum plants. The Genoa Lions held their annual Mums sale this year with the last plants finding a new home on September 15. Genoa lions have been selling these plants for the past month and are happy to see it

Her winning was approximately $10,000.

A call went out to the Lena Winslow Football team to help with set up and tear down for the Fall Festival. What a bunch of eager and helpful young men! Over the summer the Lena Lions have been asked to grill out at Sullivans in Lena. It is always a good time and wonderful pork chops, brats, hamburgers, and steak sandwiches. Thanks to all those that stopped out on these days! ---------------------------------------
Roscoe Lions Club Fall Festival was held September 10,11, 12, 2021. We had bands, carnival rides, exhibitors’ tent, great food, beer tent, and bingo. The weather was warm, the sun was shining all weekend and the attendance was great. Roscoe Lions Fall Festival parade was held on Sunday, September 12, 2021. The community came out and supported us with a huge turnout. Our second Blood Drive for the year was held on September 23 at the Roscoe Methodist Church. We had 44 donations which could possibly save 132 lives. We are planning to do another blood drive the first of 2022. ---------------------------------------

In September, we sold “fair food” at Dodge Lanes for those that missed out on getting their pork chop at the fair because we kept selling out. ---------------------------------------
At our September Social Meeting, newly elected Mayor of Belvidere, Clint Morris was our guest speaker. So far this year, the Belvidere Lions Club has been busy. In August, we had the county fair which is our biggest fundraiser of the year. This

Bryan Zobeck ( Clinical Pharmacist and Assistant Professor, UIC College of Pharmacy) spoke to the Oregon Lions at their meeting on October 14th. In his presentation on Keeping Medications Affordable, he made many suggestions, which included: getting an appropriate drug insurance plan, being your own advocate, making good use of your drug formulary, comparing costs at different pharmacies, price shopping for different medications and using coupon cards when possible. Westmont Lions at Chamber of Commerce & Tourism's Fall Open House. The Lions Club was given a special table where they advertised the club and the services the club does. This was also a wonderful opportunity to meet members of different organizations.
Huntley Area Lion Mimi Geiger had a collection of Hubert Lion stuffed animals that she needed to pare down. Four of them were auctioned off at the Club Picnic to help defray the cost of the food. The rest will be donated to the McHenry County CASA and shared with Big Brothers Big Sisters Program located in the same building. ---------------------------------------

At the District 1J Forum, Governor Lion Lori Chassee (c) presented Lion Jim “Jim 1” Kiser, 1st Vice District Governor, (r) and Lion Jim “Jim 2” Worden, 2nd Vice District Governor, (l) with shirts she had come up with in her travels. The Naperville Noon Lions Club recently dedicated a 2nd used eyeglasses collection box located at 1205 South Naper Blvd. in the Market Meadows Shopping Center. The collection box was necessary for the Lions to expand the number of eyeglasses they collect and to provide a convenient location for residents of south Naperville. Aurora Noon Lions Club President Arvid Meyer, (l) provides information to residents attending Aurora's 8th Annual Youth and Family Resource Fair I midSeptember at Prisco Community Center in Aurora.
