DISTRICT 1A GOVERNOR RICHARD MOY’S
MONTHLY
NEWSLETTER
September 2025

Goodafternoon,lions!

We’re at the halfway point of the first quarter of the Lions year and so far, it’s been an exciting time with installing new officers! As I’ve made my visits it has truly been a warm welcome from those clubs visited. The smiling faces to the enthusiasm for club service projects and events are very much the EXCITEMENT I love to see and hear about. I can already tell that you took last month’s CALL TO ACTION to be inspired andserve withleadership
with pride in Lions. I want to recognize some of our Servant Leaders that took the time to complete ELLI training (Emerging Lions Leadership Institute) and RLLI training (Regional Lions Leadership Institute)on the weekendof August 15th. Congratulations and thank you to the following Lions:
Club Director Lion Cindy Meyer –Chicago Ridge Lions Club
President Lion Yari Vera – Windy City Lions
RegionChairLionLavettaBeauzile–
Bellwood Lions
Past President Lion Philippe
Beauzile – Bellwood Lions
Service Chairperson Lion Anne
Caerel Pampolino – Chicago
Healthcare Lions
2nd Assistant Treasurer Lion Marie
Joy Carino – Chicago Healthcare Lions
Here are some action items that will help us achieve our goals together:
• Retention: Work together to resolve conflicts. Engage in those members that have not attended a meeting in a few months or have been uncharacteristically quiet during meetings or get togethers. Identifywhyourbrothersandsisters in service may feel less empowered to be those servant leaders. Celebrate your rock star servant heroes! Always make sure they are recognized for their efforts and point out how they may have gone above and beyond during an event.
• Building Membership: When you’reatyourclubmeetings, always inviteafriendorfamilymemberout to experience the fellowship you all
share and invite them to partake in your projects. If you’re having an event and you’re sitting next to a non-Lion, ask them who and what brought them there to support our efforts. Make them feel welcome and recognized for their time.
• Cub Clubs: We were able to form our first two Cub Clubs at the endofthelastLionsyearforDistrict 1A and that’s outstanding as we have never had a Cub Club in our district. But we need MORE! We want to give time to our littles that can grow with our family to be Leos and Lions. As a parent myself, I recognize that if you give time to thechildren, you’llgettimefromthe parents to serve. That SYNERGY is important to sustaining our future. Get those families in our communities to be involved together.
Some key dates to make note of for September:
• Region2Meeting–September 4th
• Chicago Filipino American Lions Governor Night – September 6th
Governor Richard Moy’s Newsletter 2

Mission1.5

As stated on the international website “We’re on a mission to grow. And social media is one of the best tools we have for spreading our message, sharing success stories, and inspiring fellow Lions to join the drive to reach 1.5millionmembersworldwide. MISSION1.5 startswithyou. So,getactive with other Lions on social media now! #MissionToGrow”
Let’s see what we can do to help reach 1.5 members! We can reach and exceed our goal if every lion adds one or more new members.
As a district, we need to continue improving work on retaining our members.

OverviewofMission1.5
Mission 1.5, Lions International’s global membership growth initiative, set an ambitious target: to grow Lions Clubs International to 1.5 million members worldwide. The campaign focused on:
• Recruiting new members with passion and purpose.
• Strengthening club retention and engagement.
• Work to assist where needed to help clubs meet community needs or causes for service.
AsGMT Coordinator,Iwillworkcloselywithourdistrict’sleadership,Global Action Team, and clubs to align our efforts with Mission 1.5. While we’ve madesignificantgainsinawarenessandtraining,ouryear-endmembership datarevealskeychallenges particularlyaroundretention andclubvitality.
Conclusion
This Lions year brought both learning and challenge. While 284 membership drops signal the need for more strategic action, they also provide valuable insight into how we can better serve our members, engage our communities, and build lasting clubs.
Let us move forward with clarity, compassion, and commitment to the Lions’ mission—and to reaching 1.5 million strong.

Dear Lions Club President or Secretary, It is time to think about the Peace Poster and Essay contest. This year’s theme is “Together as One”. I hope your club will consider sponsoring a contest. Also, know that contests do not necessarily have to be organized through schools. An organization such as the Boy or Girls Scouts can have a contest, or a youth organization or a church group. If you are interested in sponsoring a contest, order a Peace Poster contest kit online from Lions International. With shipping, the cost is a little over $24.00. Then, conduct your contest. The winner must be selected, and his or her poster begiventoDistrictGovernorRichardbyNovember15.After that, Governor Richard will bring the poster to the State Contest. The contest is open to children who will be 11, 12, or 13 on November 15, 2024.
I hope your club will consider having a contest. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 224-5327366, or at historytennis@yahoo.com. Yours in Lionism,
Rex D. Nyquist
