When some religiously led institutions in Mangaluru curtailed workers' rights orfailedtoprovidethem, heheldthe red flag high, fought through unique protests, and restored their rights. Opposing the Central Sahitya Academy’s stand of recognizing

Veezsendsherdeepestsympathies to Joyce Ozario his beloved wife and the members of all Ozario Family.
Somepeoplearealreadydeadwhen theyarealive.Afewarealiveevenif they left this world. They refuse to die. They always live forever in the chapters of history. Eric Ozario lives through his innumerable and valuablecontributionstoKonknniin several fields. To describe him and his contribution is a Herculean task for me. No man in the history of Konknnihascontributedasmuchas Eric.
He began as a singer. Then he excelled as a music composer, director without the formal training in music! He was a teacher, lyricist, creative innovator, performer, organizer, event manager, campaigner and crusader to obtain justiceforthemarginalizedworkers, voice of the voiceless, trainer, leader, prophet, activist, grass root thinker and philosopher, orator, master of ceremony, rebel, fighter fora just cause, anda team builder. HeestablishedManddSobhannand erected Kalaangann with his associates. He promoted music, dance, theatre, films, Konknni traditions, culture, and folklore, folk music, folk culture, brass band,
research, learning of Konknni in schools and elsewhere. He visited Konknni speakersand triedto unite themwithinIndiaandabroad.
In the words of Royston Fernandes who wrote is biography Eric Ozario was "The indefatigable Crusader”. His vision for Konknni was far beyond the sky. He was a dreamer likeJoseph’s sonofJacobintheOld Testament. Eric had many dreams for Konknni. Some are fulfilled, others partially, and a few have remainedasdreams.
He transcended the narrow walls of region, religion, caste, gender language, script. He believedinand practiced the principle of "Unity in diversity". He never believed in common notions like “difficult”, “impossible”, “hard”, and "fatalism". He was a positive thinker with his vision far beyond the horizon. He was restless till he achieved his goal.
What is the best tribute or homage can I give to Eric with whom I was closelyassociatedsince1987?Eric’s
life for me is a never-ending story, historyandmystery.Ihavenobetter wordsthanthepoemofthePersian poet Jalāl al-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī, orsimplyRumi, ofthe13thcentury, which describes the latest thoughts ofEric.
Ericwillcontinuetoliveinthehearts and minds of his admirers, friends, and foes as a dedicated soldier of Konknni. He was a commando “Black cat” who never felt fear to face any situation or task, including his own death. He was a fearless warrior. He conquered death by living and working till the end. A great soul and precious gem. Such people are rarely born on this planet.
I am privileged to have penned this poem along with this artwork on Bab Eric’s recent birthday. I had wished he would live many more years with us so that I could write a better one in the future. Sadly, it turned out to be my first and last poem about his life. Bab Eric had expressed his happiness to me over the phone, and that memory is now very precious. May his soul rest in eternal peace. With tears in my eyes, I reproduce the same poem below.
Indefatigable Crusader
Bab Eric Ozario
Live Long Among Us
Today we sing, our hearts full of cheer, For a man whose spirit knows no fear, An Indefatigable Crusader, bold and true, Fighting for justice with a heart that renews.
Eric Bab, a name we hold dear, A warrior for the weak, for the ones in despair, Your soul, a flame, ever burning bright, Guided by love, truth, and unwavering might.
With songs that heal and words that inspire, You’ve lit the world with a radiant fire, Through melodies that soar like the morning dawn, You’ve sung the songs that keep hearts strong.
Oh, how you’ve loved the language divine, Konkani, your soul’s breath, your lifeline, You’ve woven its beauty with passion and might, A culture preserved in the darkest of nights.
Through Mandd Sobhann, your legacy stays, Kalangan stands tall, in love and praise, A home for the hearts that sing their truth, Where tradition and art find endless youth.
A composer of dreams, a weaver of lore, Your music flows like waves on the shore, You gave melodies to words that once lay, Silent and still, in the light of the day.
You called on poets, gave wings to their verse, Songs of the land, of life’s gifts and curse, You took my words for the ‘Bonvddi’ song, And made them dance where they truly belong.
Through every chord and every refrain, You spoke of the world, of joy and pain, With your spirit as strong as the Konkani tide, You made the heart of the community thrive.
Today as you turn seventy-six, With health so fragile, yet spirit transfixed, Know that your fire, it still brightly burns, And through your art, the world always learns.
Eric Bab, may your legacy grow, Like a river of hope in the world’s ebb and flow, We are proud to know you, to walk by your side, Your spirit, unbroken, our beacon, our guide.
So here’s to the warrior, the lover of song, May your journey ahead be peaceful and long, May love surround you on this blessed day, As we honor the legend you are today.
Happy Birthday Eric Bab

Her smile used to set you on fire
Her anger used to amuse you
Often finding it more endearing
Yet now, you find her ridiculous
Now her smile is lost behind a reflection
Now her anger smothered within She no longer has tears to express Her fire now, all turned to ice
If you think you've won by killing her spirit
If you think flexing your muscles makes a man
Think again, you who conquer, think again
The loss is all yours, her best was yet to come
She gave you all she had to give She gave her hopes and dreams
Believing they'd be safe with you
Now all she has is an impenetrable shell

Fastingisamostfamiliarandsimple wordbothasreligiousandscientific. We can describe the meaning of fasting as ‘refrain from taking the food for a particular period’. The fastingisself-wishandcanbetaken for any reasons or without reasons likeasahobbyoffandthen.
Fasting has its own significant importance.Itiscommencednot
just from few decades rather it has been adopted from ancient times even before BCs. Ancients’ sages used to fast for several days in the forestswhiledoingtheirworshipsto God.
Fasting is a part of the spirituality and is practised in every religion. Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan refrain from food during day hours. Christians in the month of lent for 40 days. In Hinduism, during the Navaratri season, during intheholymonthofShravana. Thus,
fastinghasbeengivenessentialrole ineveryreligion.
Fasting can be divided into 3 categories and all three of them have good benefits to us. In any type of the fasting, water should be taken as we must know that fasting without water is dangerous to health.
1) SimpleFasting
2) Mediumfasting
3) DeepFasting
1)Simple Fasting: - It’s a type of refrainfrom havingfoodand in this category, we have the subgroups. Anyoneofthem canbeselected.
a) Only having the fruits and water/juices and a light meal at night.
b)Only black tea in the morning and light meal at night and lunch is beingskipped
c) Only black tea in the morning, light lunchandlightdinnertaken.
Simple fasting can be done as it is veryeasy, andwehavelessbenefits. MediumFasting:-It’sanothertype of fasting which a supersede of the simple fasting. Here are the sub typesofit.
a) Fasting for 24 hours without any foodexceptwater.
b)Fastingfor24hoursonlywithwater andalightdinner
This looks difficult and can be practisedatleastonceinamonth. It givesmorebenefitstoourbodyand protectusfromdiseases.
2)Deep Fasting: - It is rarely used practise and not much familiar. However, it has the potential benefits. This must be done with stepbystep.Asweareallknowthat the day today’s food, we are taking these days leading towards the fat (Cholesterol) and the fat accumulates in our blood nerves which blocks the blood circulation. Thismightleadtothecardiacarrest. Let us see the procedure of this fasting.
Hereapersonmustgiveuphisfood and can be taken only liquid items like water/ juices/ milk etc….. In the initial stage we can do it for 2 days withoutanysolidfoodexceptwater.
In the first few hours, we feel very difficult and slowly we feel as if we cannot because we are habituated to our regular food timings. This is the time for temptation and many leaves.Itshouldnotbe.Pleasenote thateveryhumanhasstorage of fat
in him which can be considered as his3daysfood.Soevenifyoudon’t take food, body slowly absorbs the fat within you and body starts burning fat for fuel. Hence no need to worry even if you don’t eat for 3 days. This is difficult in the 1st day andmoredifficultinthe2nd daytoo. On the 3rd day your bodyadjusts to this and we feel more relaxed and wish to continue to fast even for 1 week without any hindrance. This can be continued for 40 days as science has proven that human can survive for 40 days only with water. Even in scriptures we read that few religiousfoundersfastedfor40days being a normal human like us. However,I don’tinsisttoprolonged itfor40 days rather 1 week at least. Afteritisindividualwish.
1) After undergoing all 3 types of fasting, deep fasting has excellent benefits to us. Even dangerous diseases can be chased like BP, Sugar, Cholesterol, Cancer, Astma, Gastic, Skin Diseases, arthritis pain and they will never ever come back if we practise the deep fasting at least once a month. Twice in a monthmoreappreciated.
2) Fasting helps to overcome addictions like tobacco, alcohol etc……
3) It helps body detox and eliminates toxinfromthebody
4) Itgivesresttothedigestivesystem.
5) Itimproveskidneyandliverfunction
6) Blood circulation gets smoother as nofatinbloodveins.
7) Thosewhowishtobecomethin, this is the best way and for those who areverythin, theycangetageneral physicalfitnessaspertheirage.
8) Fasting is a key/ baseline for meditationandYoga.
9) Fastingisafreeofcostgiftprovided bynaturewithhugebenefitstoyou.
Precautions: - Fasting is not suitableduringpregnancy, oldaged and children below 10 years. Deep Fasting is not recognized for hard (labour) workers as they can take mediumfastingitemnoyMoreover, those who have any kind of diseases, kindly consult the doctor beforedoingthefasting. Duringtherecentcrisis, weundergo the situation where many are struggling for the food, and it’s called starvation. There is a difference between fasting and
starvation. Fasting is encouraged where starvation can be removed from the society. 13.7% Indian Population are undernourished. In the2024GlobalHungerIndex(GHI), India was ranked 105th out of 127 countries.
The fasting which we do benefits our health, fulfils our religious obligation and either the food we savedorthetallyingamountwecan give it to our society who are starving or to the charity. Thus, we shallhavetheblessingsfromhuman anddivine.
Finally, before winding up let us adopt these hidden tips of healthy lifeandpractiseit.Letuscontrolour body before it controls us. And surely these tips assist us. Let us build a healthy home, society and country.Whateverisgiventoothers is ours and whatever is ours never belongs to us because we are all in ashortjourneyofearthlylife.
Thus, complying to the above, be a rolemodelandthuswebuilda goodfamily, societyandgood nation.GodBlessyouall.

Cincinnati,Ohio:Bradly D’Souzaisa living example that greatness is not measured in trophies, but in the livesyoutouch. Inaworldwherecommitmentoften fades and dedication is fleeting, Bradly D’Souza stands as a beacon of determination, resilience, and selflessservice.Foranextraordinary 17 years, Bradly has dedicated his time, energy, and heart to volunteeringattheCincinnatiOpen, one of the most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world. In 2025, his journey reached yet another remarkable milestone as he served on Center Court for all 14 days of thetournament,fromAugust5thto August 18th.
Bradly D’Souza has exemplified the
epitome of what community members are challenged to do during their life. Volunteering is the art of giving without expecting, the courage to serve without seeking recognition, and the determination tomakeeverymomentcountinthe livesofothers.
For tennis lovers across the globe, this was a season to remember, not justforthethrillingmatches, butfor the quiet, steadfast presence of
individuals like Bradly who make these events possible. This year, the world watched Bradly live on television as he skillfully performed his duties on Center Court, including during the men’s singles final. The moment was historic, CarlosAlcarazclinchedthetitleafter defending champion Jannik Sinner retired with the score at 5-0. Bradly was there, a part of that very moment, representing not just the spirit of the game but the spirit of service.
Over the course of the tournament, Bradly dedicated a staggering 164 hoursof volunteering. Everyminute

In April 2025, he completed11yearsatthecompany, continuing to balance his work and volunteer service with unmatched dedication.
But Bradly’s story is not just one of personal excellence, it is also a
family legacy. His mother, Dancy D’Souza, has been right there alongsidehimforthepast17 years, volunteeringat theCincinnatiOpen with the same unwavering spirit. The seeds of Bradly’s passion for givingback were nurturedat home.
As the son of Harold D’Souza, an internationally recognized inspirational speaker and President of Eyes Open International, Bradly grew up witnessing the impact of service, leadership, and advocacy. Harold’s global work in human rights and anti-trafficking efforts instilledinBradlythebeliefthatreal

Commitment: Dedicating hundreds of hours without fail, driven by love forthesportandservice.

The Cincinnati Open is more than a tennis tournament, it is a platform where people from all over the world gather, not just to watch athletescompete, buttowitnessthe passion, hard work, and unity that make the event possible. Bradly’s role may not involve swinging a racket, buthispresenceonthecourt is every bit as vital to the heartbeat ofthetournament.
Reflecting on the event, many attendeesandviewerswereinspired not only by the matches but by the dedication of individuals like Bradly andDancy.Inatimewhentheworld often celebrates quick wins, their 17-year commitmentis a refreshing reminder that true success is built over years of steady, purposeful action.
Bradly’s story sends a powerful message to communities worldwide: that every person can make a difference, not by waiting for the perfect opportunity, but by choosing to show up, again, with heart and purpose. His journey proves that optimism is not just an attitude, itisapractice.
As the Cincinnati Open 2025 ends, Bradly D’Souza leaves behind more than just hours logged, and duties completed.Heleavesanexample,a shining blueprint for what it means to serve with humility, work with discipline, andlivewithavisionthat extendsbeyondoneself.
