Parents Must Get Involved

performance in some schools. It also resulted in most parents leaving the education of their children in the hands of teachers.
All of us want schools in our communities to be well managed and excel academically - and to achieve this we have to make it a societal responsibility.
The South African Schools Act of 1996 changed the course of our education. It mandated that schools should actively involve community members and have a democratically elected School Governing Body.
Elections for School Governing Bodies were introduced after the advent of democracy in 1994 to ensure active participation in school affairs and to enrich the culture of teaching and learning. Before 1994, schools’ management was authoritarian and parents, especially at traditionally black schools, were excluded from having a say in how they should be managed. At the time, schools were managed by committees and boards which reported directly to the then apartheid government. This exclusion was partly to blame for the below - par

According to the Department of Basic Education, there are currently more than 25 000 public schools in South Africa and every school has a School Governing Body that is democratically elected. The three-yearly cycle of nationwide School Governing Body elections ended on 28 March. The elections which started on 6 March were overseen by the Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that they were free and fair. Not every parent could be elected, but all parents were able to participate in the elections to determine who governs the schools
Elected members can be teachers, parents, staff members and pupils from grade 8 upwards. School Governing Bodies make allowance for the fact most parents have full time jobs. These Bodies play an important role in the running of schools. They support the principals, teachers and other staff to improve the quality of education; ensure good governance and combat racism, sexism and all other forms of unfair discrimination and intolerance.

We must become responsible for our children’s education and ensure homework is completed. We should also support School Governing Bodies to ensure decisions are taken in the best interest of pupils. Parents should use this opportunity to become directly involved in the education of their children and ensure that we do not repeat the mistakes of the past. Instead, we must play an active part in moving the country forward. By Minister in the Presidency Mr Jeff Radebe

etherlands Park Secondary School is a school that was established in 2012 at Themba Centre-Township, Wesselton under the Msukaligwa Local Municipality in the Gert Sibande District. The school started with a grade 8 classes, and then it was moved out to Netherlands Park because of limited space. The school had no structures, they used mobile classes, the learners and educators were all exposed to bad weather conditions during rainy and windy days. In 2012, the Department of Education came to the school’s rescue with the construction of proper learning structures (classrooms). Khanyisa Newspaper journalist visited the school on the 25/03/2015 and found that the school is now a better state for teaching and learning. The school enrols learners from grade 8 to 11 and the learner enrolment stands at 571, which comprises of 249 males and 272 females. There are 02 administrative assistants, 02 general assistants, 01 deputy principal, 02 HOD’s and 13PL 01 educators.
The structure consists of 28 classrooms, an administrative block, Laboratory, a Library, a Computer Centre, School Hall, 40 Toilets, Fencing, Electricity, Water, a Kitchen, Rails and Ramps, 3 Sports Fields and a Car Park. On the 16th of April 2015, the school will be handed over to the School Governing Body and the Community by the Department of Education. The School Governing Body (SGB) and the school’s management expressed their greatest appreciation to the Department of Education for the construction of new classes and making the environment a better place for learning and teaching. The school has been well constructed, pupils were seen cleaning the premises and smiling. The are no more walking on mud during rainy days, they are in a very good condition. Thanks to the Department of Education for a job well done in the construction of the school.

The Sama Xxi Host Has Been Revealed It’s a ‘rap’ as Mafikeng’s favourite musical son takes to the stage in his home province.
S
ocial media has been abuzz over the past few days... who exactly is the enigmatic Agent XXIwho’s been teasing us ahead of the XXI Annual South African Music Awards on Sunday, 19 April 2015? Well, he’s now stepped out of the shadows and we can reveal that it’s none other than HHP! That’s right: Hip Hop Pantsula (aka Jabba, aka Jabulani Tsambo) will be taking to the stage as the official host of the XXI South African Music Awards at Sun City, and he now has an extra alias to add to his list of nicknames: Agent XXI. The internationally acclaimed Motswako rapper will be keeping the Superbowl audience and television viewers entertained between performances and awards presentations at the glittery ceremony, and what makes the occasion particularly special is that the Mafikeng-born musician will be doing so in his home province, the North West. The awards have been without a host for two years (previous hosts include none other than Trevor Noah, who has just landed a plum gig hosting The Daily Show in the United States), but HHP is no stranger to charming television viewers, having won the third season of the reality dance show Strictly Come Dancing. It’s fitting that someone who has made such a rich contribution to the South African music scene (not to mention outside our borders, having snagged a coveted MTV Africa Music Award for Best Video in 2009) has been chosen to host South Africa’s most prestigious music awards event. Catch HHP on stage at the XXI Annual South African Music Awards on Sunday, 19 April 2015, broadcast live from the Sun City Superbowl on SABC1 from 20h00. It’s going to be Jabba-licious! hree local music legends, and one in the making, will be honoured during the XXI Annual South African Music Awards, taking place at the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday, 19 April 2015. This year's Lifetime Achievement Awards, sponsored by Amstel Lager, will be presented to kwaito pioneers Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng and Mdu Masilela, as well as the late jazzman Zim Ngqawana. World-renowned flautist Wouter Kellerman will receive an International Achievement Award for his Grammy-winning, charttopping Winds of Samsara. Wouter Kellerman became South Africa's latest Grammy Award winner this year for his 2014 album Winds of Samsara, a collaboration with Indian composer and producer Ricky Kej, which won a Grammy for Best New Age Album. It is also in the running for two SAMAs at the XXI Annual South African Music Awards for Best Classical/Instrumental Album and Best Producer. The album also notched up a remarkable feat by reaching number one on the United States Billboard New Age Albums Chart; it also topped the Zone Music Reporter Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart last July. His album Two Voices won a SAMA in 2011, reinforcing his status as one of the country's true crossover artists who thrives on experimenting with the shades, textures and colours that his magic flute is capable of painting, and creatively blending them with other instrumentation and vocal sounds. Soweto-born Mandla Mofokeng, popularly known as Spikiri (meaning “nail”), is one of South Africa's most influential kwaito pioneers. As a musician, singer and producer, his talents have been a cornerstone of the kwaito music sound since its inception. Spikiri has masterminded hits for the likes of Bongo Maffin, Kabelo, Teargas, Trompies (of which he was a founder member) and Thandiswa Mazwai. It all started when, as part of the disco duo MM Deluxe with good friend Mdu Masilela in the late 1980s, they introduced what came to be known as the township kwaito of today. As a co-director at the Kalawa Jazzme label, he has overseen the careers of acts such as Mafikizolo, Uhuru, Black Motion, Boom Shaka, Brothers of Peace and Mahoota vs Vetkuk, and has also worked with jazz artists such as Don Laka, Moses Molelekwa and Hugh Masekela. Equally pivotal to the evolution of kwaito is Mdu Masilela, affectionately known as “the godfather of kwaito”. From his stint with MM Deluxe, mixing township folk music with international dance music, he went on to record major hits such as Tsiki Tsiki and Mazola. Masilela has since released a number of albums, and has also made a name for himself producing and arranging for other artists such as MaWillies, Mashamplani, Skeem and Brown Dash. His influence on the development of
the kwaito scene has been immense over the past 25-plus years, enabling a new generation of South African musicians to find their sound. By establishing an independent production company, he has ensured the creation of a distinctly localised form of kwaito that is closely associated with authentic township culture. Taken from this life far too soon – in 2011, at the age of 51 – Zim Ngqawana was a man of integrity and without compromise, both musically and ideologically. This fivetime SAMA-winning jazz artist refused to bend to the whims of the marketplace, earning him the respect of the industry and music lovers both locally and abroad. Aside from being a prolific composer and producer, Ngqawana was a multiinstrumentalist of note; he was proficient on horns of all kinds (including alto, tenor and baritone saxophone), as well as the flute, piccolo, harmonia, bells and whistles, and melodica and piano. Add to this his emotive vocals, spicing up some of his tracks with chants and choruses, and you have sheer musical genius. Hailed as the hardest working man in jazz, he was a trailblazer among the new generation of South African musicians that took a fresh look at the country's jazz and traditional music heritage, keeping African culture alive and vibrant by reinventing and interpreting it. Said Muckewa Tsanwani, Amstel Marketing Manager: “We are honoured to be celebrating four of South Africa's leading lights at the XXI Annual South African Music Awards. All of the recipients are pioneers in their respective music fields, hoisting the South African music flag high and promoting authentic homegrown sounds.” “Spikiri, Mdu, Zim and Wouter have done the South African music industry proud over the years. They have helped ensure that we do not remain complacent and stagnant in our music comfort zones, but instead challenge, break new ground and chart new territory in our country's musical evolution. The South African Music Awards salutes these heroes,” added Mika Chauke, Head of Communications and Stakeholder Relations for the XXI Annual South African Music Awards. The XXI South African Music Awards will take place at the Sun City Superbowl on 19 April 2015, and will be broadcast live on SABC1 at 20h00. hen you work hard you always get good results! Some people were raised from poor backgrounds and that is why they respect their jobs yet other people are just working for the sake of it! When you are at work, know why you go to work every day, have a reason to wake up in the morning, set goals for yourself, but if you do not really know why you wake in the morning, you will end up distracting other people, who have a clear mind-set of why they work up every morning and go to work. Do not be convinced by people with no vision (Colossians 3 v 23 whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for Men) Do not try to impress Men, do your work in the right way, at the right pace, do your work as if you have just been employed because hard work pays off well. If you are in a season of waiting then you will know that having a positive attitude while you wait, helps you keep your faith on the right track. Waiting on God is never a waste of time. Some things may not happen the way that we expected for them to happen, but it will work around for your good. If you saw what He is preparing for you, you would stop complaining and also start preparing yourself for the blessing. So many of us are so quick to say that God doesn't answer prayers; yet we forget to sharpen our own skills and characters to complement the blessing when it comes. Keep twisting Him to pull through for you. You don't want to get something outside of Him, because you would have to stay out of Him in order to keep it. He knows what you need before you even ask Him. Do you trust Him enough to pull through for you?
Matthew 15:13 "He answered, 'Any plant that my Heavenly Father did not plant will be uprooted.'” Picture your life as a garden. In it are your favourite fruits and vegetables and even beautiful pathways for those days when you just want to unwind. But then in the midst of it all, you see a tree that is draining all the other plants in your garden. It causes all your favourite fruits and vegetables to rot and you will have nothing to live on. It sounds silly at the moment, but that is what happens to our hearts every day. Each time you allow the tree of unforgiveness, bitterness, strife, pain, rejection and past failure to grow in your life; it ends up eating away all the other good areas of your life. Someone who is struggling with rejection or fears will lose a lot of good friendships because of the wall they will put up. If you are tired of going through the same thing each and every year then it's time to do one key thing. This week, take time to allow the Spirit to show you the areas of your life that only God can remove

(2 Thessalonians 3 v 10 - 12) for even IF we were with you, we would give you this command, if anyone is not willing to work let him not eat for we hear that some among you walk in idleness not busy at work but busybodies, now such person we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and earn their own living. I would like to encourage people to love and respect their jobs and the positions they are in right now, some people wish to be in those positions, some people are dreaming to be where you are, but you are abusing and missusing your chance. You have forgotten about the time you were applying for that position you have, praying daily, checking your mails daily, charging your cell phone, hopping to be called to start work but today you hide your phone and don't take calls anymore because
TIPS FROM YOUR LOCAL
What Causes a Sprained Ankle? Ankle sprains can occur simply by rolling your ankle or some unstable ground. Common examples of this occur when awkwardly planting your foot when running, landing unbalanced from a jump or stepping onto an irregular surface. What are the Symptoms of a Sprained Ankle? A history of your ankle rolling is the key ingredient to suspecting a sprained ankle. At the time of the injury you may hear a popping or cracking sound and will notice swelling, bruising and ankle pain. Lateral or medial ligament sprains are usually acutely tender over the injured ligament. Depending on the severity of your ankle sprain, you may have trouble walking or standing on your foot. In these cases, crutches, strapping or a walking boot may be necessary to help you to mobilise throughout the day. In more severe cases, there may be sharp pain deep in the ankle joint associated with a talar dome fracture or pain between your lower shin bones, which may be a syndesmosis or high ankle sprain.

If you don't, you will suffer. Your own life will be affected. You cannot expect a new and powerful change in areas of your life, without first dealing with the change that's needed in your heart. Have a blessed week in His Presence!
How is a Sprained Ankle Diagnosed? Your physiotherapist is an expert in the assessment and diagnosis of ankle sprains. Your history and a thorough clinical examination will determine the severity of your sprained ankle. If required, you may be referred for a X-ray, CT scan or MRI to confirm or exclude specific ligament or bone injuries.
talus (deep ankle bone). Underneath the talo-crural joint lies the subtalar joint, which is the articulation between the talus and the calcaneus (heel bone). Your ankle ligaments attach from bone to bone and passively limit the motion available at each joint. High ankle sprains involve the inferior tibiofibular ligament and syndesmosis. These are more disabling ankle injuries and are often misdiagnosed as the more simple sprained ankle. Eat According To Your Blood Type To Avoid Sickness By Leslie Bonci, MPH,RD,CSSD,LDNM Director of Sports Nutrition University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Co-author of Run Your Butt Off and The Active Calorie Diet Should you follow a specific diet and exercise plan based upon your blood type? That is what Dr. D’Adamo suggests in his book Eat Right for Your Blood Type. D’Adamo is a naturopathic doctor who feels that one’s blood type may determine which diseases and illnesses you may develop. That being said, if you are intrigued by the idea of eating according to your blood type, here is the basic premise of the diet: D’Adamo says that not everyone should follow the same diet, and that blood type and your race determines tolerance to what you should and should not eat. Based on this, there are 16 groups of
food that are highly beneficial, neutral or should be avoided. According to the blood-type diet, there are 4 blood types: Type O - the oldest blood type Type A - agrarian Type B - nomadic Type AB - modern Food Groups and Blood Type Type O should eat lean meat, poultry , fish, fruits and vegetables, limit grains and dairy, and exercise vigorously. Type A should eat soy foods, grains, organic vegetables and do more gentle exercise.
Type B should eat dairy foods, meat, produce, corn or wheat and do moderate exercise. No beans. Type AB should eat seafood, tofu, dairy, produce, limit chicken, beef, pork and do calming exercise. Benefits of Eating According to Blood Type Dr D’Adamo recommends lots of fruits and vegetables, and eating enough protein through lean meats, poultry, soy foods, seafood and lowfat dairy. He also recommends consuming fat daily, and limiting sugar and alcohol. This is exactly what a registered dietitian would say too, but …
Potential Problems The diet may be too low in particular nutrients, especially calcium for those groups that are told to limit dairy; or protein, especially for Type As that are not soy eaters; and potentially low in fiber in those types that are not to consume beans or lentils or grains. Most Americans fall short of calcium, fiber, potassium and, in some cases, protein. An eating pattern should not add to those deficiencies. That said, eating is never one size fits all; you have to personalize, customize and modify to make the plan your own. Considerations Is this an approach for everyone?
Before you try, do some careful consideration and be as picky about your diet plan as you are about your car, wardrobe or shoes. To Be continued next week....
