Waitlist You can join the waitlist if the trip is full on the student portal during ADD/DROP period. You will receive the waitlist link by email from the Cultural Program Office. Coup de Pouce Coup de Pouce is a grant that provides a limited amount of financial aid to degree seeking students at AUP. To receive this grant, students must be registered in classes linked to study trips and must be in financial need. • The grant is funded by the Office of the President and profits generated from vending machines on AUP’s campus. • An application form and essay must be completed online to apply for the grant. • Incomplete or inaccurate application forms will not be considered. • Coup de Pouce applications are reviewed by two sub-committees: for undergraduate applications, the committee is composed of one Undergraduate Student Council member, one Financial Aid officer, and one administrator from Student Life Department; for graduate applicants – the committee is composed of one Graduate Student Council member, one Financial Aid officer, and one Administrator from the Graduate Office. CP Policy information Registration Registration for study trips is done the same way as registration for academic courses: online through the registration portal on MyAUP Student Services. MyAUP > My Account > My Student Services > Registration To find a study trip in the portal, enter “CP” in the department field. A list of all study trips offered for the specified semester will appear.

Cancellation The registration window is open for study trips during the week of DROP/ADD. The last day of DROP/ADD constitutes the last official day of study trip registration. After DROP/ ADD, students may contact the Cultural Program Office directly to register for a study trip, though availability is not guaranteed. If registration for a trip is full, the Cultural Program Office will provide an online link to the registration/ waitlist procedure.

IMPORTANT: The last day to cancel and remove the charge of the study trip from the student’s account is the last day of DROP/ADD. A student who has not dropped the study trip in the online registration portal by the last day of DROP/ADD is registered and will be held responsible for the entire cost of the trip. For the Fall 2026 semester, this is midnight September 06, 2026.

If registered for a study trip after DROP/ ADD, the student will be charged for the entirety of the trip even if they do not attend the trip or withdraw from a course with a study trip. Some exceptions may apply in extraordinary circumstances. The cancelation deadline is extended for eligible students pending their Coup de Pouce award notifications: see the Cultural Program Manager.

Cultural Excursions, Activities and Tickets Study Trip Confirmation & Payment On the third week of class, the Cultural Programs Office sends an announcement email of the study trip confirmation and student participation. When a student registers online for a study trip, the cost of the trip is automatically shown on the student’s account. See Student Accounting Services for details about the student account and related charges.

Payment for study trips is due as soon as the trip is officially confirmed via email by the Cultural Programs Office to registered students and no later than

IMPORTANT: All outstanding balances to the University result in blocked transcripts. There are no exceptions for Cultural Program activities and study trips.

Payment can be made online by credit card on my.aup.edu/payment/academic-trips.

Sign-up for cultural excursions, activities, and tickets is done through the Cultural Program website. To sign up, the student must pay the full amount of the excursion or ticket on the corresponding page. Once payment is made, no cancellations or refunds are possible.

A student may sell their ticket or seat to someone else, and the Cultural Program Office will do its best to help the student find a buyer; however, the financial transaction is solely the student’s responsibility.

Priority for Participation Students registered in corresponding course(s) of a study trip are given priority for participation on study trips. In the event of enrollment exceeding the number of spots prebooked, the Cultural Program Office team does their best to add extra spots to the trip. Please note, however, that sometimes this is not possible due to outside restraints (flights, hotels, etc.).

In this case, students registered in the corresponding course(s) will be given priority and those who are dropped from the trip are not responsible for the cost of the trip. In the event of there not being enough spots for everyone from the course(s), the date and time of registration will be taken into consideration. 7

Other Participants Individuals who are not current AUP students but who would like to participate in a study trip or activity must make a request directly to the Cultural Program Office no later than the study trip registration period of DROP/ADD. Participation is subject to availability.

Unless otherwise agreed and established, outside participants pay the same fee as AUP participants. Payment for the Cultural Program activity is the only way to guarantee an outside individual’s participation in the study trip.

Excused Absences Students who are registered in a class corresponding to a study trip are excused by Academic Affairs from attending their other classes during the dates of the study trip if they are attending the trip. If the time of departure or arrival allows a student to attend class before leaving or after returning from a study trip, the student may be expected to do so and must be in contact with their professor to make sure this is clear for both the professor and the student. Students who

are registered in a study trip but who are not registered in the corresponding class are NOT officially excused from their classes by Academic Affairs. Students are advised to contact their professors before registering for a trip to see if their professor can permit their absence. The Cultural Program cannot issue refunds for trips if a student decides to cancel after the DROP/ ADD deadline because their professor cannot excuse their absence from class.

Accommodation, Transportation and Special Arrangement Requests In most cases, students share accommodation in sets of twin, triple, and quad (or more in specific circumstances), depending on the establishment and trip budget. Students may submit special rooming requests by answering to the announcement email of the study trip confirmation. In most cases, transportation is reserved in advance by the Cultural Program Office in order to secure the best possible times according to the professor’s schedule and obtain the best possible prices. Students wishing to arrange their own lodging or transportation, or any other specific requests must make this clear upon confirmation of the trip.

To make special arrangements, student must contact the Cultural Program Office and submit the request in writing via email. The Cultural Program Office will do its best to accommodate special requests. Special arrangements require approval by the Cultural Program Manager and in certain cases, the accompanying professor. Please note that approval of special requests may not always be possible because of trip specific reservation or budget restraints. In all cases, students will be charged for group and professor-related fees. Any extra cost associated with a special arrangement is the responsibility of the student.

Carte de Séjour Any student who registers for a cultural excursion or study trip that involves travel outside of France and who does not have the proper documents to travel at the date of the study trip, or who does not correctly fulfill the Carte de Séjour requirements by providing the necessary documents to the Student Immigration Services Office at the start of the semester and is, therefore,

unable to travel, will be held responsible for the cost of the trip. No exceptions to this rule. See the Student Immigration Services Office if you are not sure that you have the proper documents to travel and notify the Cultural Program Office upon registration and at the latest by the announcement email of the study trip confirmation.

Visas Students are responsible for knowing the visa requirements for their nationality for travel outside of France. If a visa is required, the Cultural Program Office can provide a letter that attests to the student participating on a university-sponsored tourism trip. This can be taken to the embassy or consulate of the relevant country as part of the application to

obtain a visa. It is highly advised, once registered for a trip, to contact the relevant embassy or consulate as soon as possible to confirm the visa requirements and the cost and time needed to deliver the visa. Any student who is unable to participate in a trip because of failure to complete visa arrangements will be held responsible for the cost of the trip.

Conduct Any behavior on Cultural Program study trips or excursions that violates either the University’s Standards of Conduct or local legislation is prohibited and can result in disciplinary action.

This immersive field trip to Spain is ideal for students interested in sustainability, environmental science, physics, and the relationship between energy production and ecosystem conservation. The trip includes a visit to 2 nuclear power plants one active and one decommissioned, a nuclear simulator, and a protected natural ecosystem, offering insights into low-carbon energy production and the balance between energy needs and environmental impact.

Why do Scandinavians top international rankings whether it be education, culture or work life balance? Stockholm, the largest city in Scandinavia, will enable MAGC, SBM and undergraduate students to discover the unique political and cultural policies that produce a thriving tech-innovation community, and social inclusivity. Students will be meeting with professionals from branding, advertising, the NGO sector, and city planning. There will also be the opportunity to visit culturally significant sites such as the legendary pop group ABBA’s interactive museum, Skansen, the largest open-air museum, the Vasa museum that houses the resurrected 17th century Swedish sunken warship. At the crossroads of Europe and Africa, this three-day study trip to Brussels explores how colonial histories continue to shape both public space and cultural expression. Moving between museums, exhibitions, and neighborhoods, students engage with a range of perspectives, from institutional narratives at the AfricaMuseum to contemporary debates in the exhibition Postcolonial?. A visit to Matongé offers insight into the city’s African diasporic presence, while stops at the Hergé and Comics Art Museums invite a closer look at how popular culture has contributed to colonial imaginaries. Combining historical inquiry with attention to visual and material culture, the trip encourages students to read the city itself as a site where past and present intersect.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest book and media fair on the planet. As such, there can be few better introductions to the world of international letters. More than 4000 exhibitors gather here, and one can visit stands of publishing houses large and small from just about every corner of the globe. Most of this excursion is devoted to the convention and surrounding events (several of which are sure to be centered around this year’s guest of honor, Czechia). Expect to leave Thursday afternoon and return Sunday afternoon.

We visit Burgundy, one of France’s iconic regions, to explore the historical roots of state- and nation-building in France, to study the interactions between local and global in the production of wine and metal, and to enjoy bucolic nature and its fruits. Our tour will include amazing sights like the UNESCO World Heritage Abbaye de Fontenay, the battleground of Alesia, and the Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin in the medieval city of Dijon.

Roman ruins? Absolutely not; in southern France you can see monuments from Ancient Roman times that are in great condition and still in use. On this trip we visit the Roman amphitheater, theater and bath at Arles, a town made famous almost 2,000 years later by its residents Gauguin and Van Gogh. We also visit Arles’ impressive Antiquities museum. Another active amphitheater can be found at Nîmes, along with the beautiful “Maison Carrée,” built during the reign of Emperor Augustus. The highlight of the trip is the Pont-du-Gard: the practical and aesthetically-pleasing aqueduct that brought fresh water directly from the mountains to the city of Nîmes – the most beautiful bridge in the world.

This trip proposes to an exploration of the many layers of Cretan history and the place of women in this crossroads f of emerging Mediterranean cultures. Students will see the archeological traces of Mediterranean pre-history, Minoan civilization, the development of Greek cultures out of the Mycenean civilization, and the influences of the Venetian and Ottoman empires on a ruggedly independent Cretan culture and identity. Crete presents the opportunity to see these historical layers, consider the presence and absence of women from the historical record at different moments, and draw larger conclusions about the history of gender.

On this study trip, based in Turin with visits to Alba and Asti, we will explore strategies, branding, sustainability, and ethical management in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Through engagement with local culture and history, we will examine challenges of de-industrialization, climate change, and the protection of natural and cultural heritage. Central to the trip is how this cluster of largely family-run businesses sustains craftsmanship while responding to growing demand for sustainable, highquality products and experiences. In Turin, we will study post-industrial revitalization in the auto, wine & sprits, coffee and confectionery sectors. The itinerary includes a visit to the Barolo wine region, culinary exploration in Alba and Asti, a visit to the Martini factory, and Europe’s largest open-air market. Students will also have an open afternoon for a guided hike or independent exploration.

Step into the heart of North African tradition with this immersive study trip to Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital. Through daily colloquial Arabic classes, engaging cultural workshops, and guided encounters with artisans and storytellers, students explore the rich textures of everyday life in the world’s largest medina. Anchored during the Festival des Cultures Soufies, the program offers unique access to concerts, rituals, and panels celebrating Morocco’s spiritual heritage. Homestays provide an intimate window into local customs, while curated experiences, like a calligraphy class, a hammam visit, and a cooking session, deepen your connection to the culture.

Students will discover the extraordinary city of Sarajevo and learn about its rich histories, cultures, religions and languages while walking through the city streets, visiting sites, and speaking with local cultural actors. Spend time in Baščaršija, the Ottoman-era Old Town, with its mosque, Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches, synagogue, and market dating back to the 15th century. See the Latin Bridge near the site of Archiduke Ferdinand’s assassination in 1914. Walk up to the Yellow Fortress for panoramic views of the city. Meet with professors and students from the University of Sarajevo to learn about the politics of the three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian - BCS) - and the power-sharing of the Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs following the fragmentation of Yugoslavia, the war and its crimes.

Join us in October 2026 for an educational trip to AidEx and Development2030 in Geneva, the leading global event for the aid and development community. Over two days, students will attend talks, panels, and workshops on humanitarian action, climate resilience, digital innovation, and the SDGs. This is a unique opportunity to engage with global experts, explore career paths, and understand the real-world impact of international institutions and cooperation. The trip also includes visits to key institutions such as the Office of the High Commission for Human Rights the UNDP. We will also have the opportunity to have a guided tour of the Red Cross Museum. This study trip is ideal for students interested in international relations, development, and humanitarian work, and will combine learning, networking, and cultural discovery in one of the world’s most important diplomatic cities.

This trip explores how human migration and cultural diversity takes place within social, cultural, and political contexts in the mediterranean world through the example of the city of Marseille. We do this (1) by exploring cultural diversity and migration through the city’s architecture, social life, and cuisine (walking tours, visits to Notre-Dame, and a boat ride); (2) by learning about the history of Marseille and its embeddedness in cultural diversity and migration (le Musée d’Histoire de Marseille, Mucem (Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations); and (3) by engaging with artistic practices by the people of Marseille (Art Gallery, walking tours).

This two-day trip to Nantes invites you to explore the entangled histories of slavery, industrialization, and urban transformation in the Francophone world, while discovering life beyond Paris in a dynamic mid-sized French city. From the Château des Ducs de Bretagne to the Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery, you will confront how Nantes built, and long obscured, its role in the Atlantic slave trade. Through guided reflection and visits to sites like Le Lieu Unique and Les Machines de l’Île, you will examine how the city has reinvented itself. The trip offers a critical lens on memory, space, and power.

This study trip to Cape Verde examines the entangled histories of colonialism, law, and environmental governance in an African archipelago. Based in Praia, students explore a coastal capital whose historical center, monuments, and museums trace over five centuries of Portuguese colonial rule. Visits to Ribeira Grande and the Tarrafal concentration camp provide critical insight into colonial legal regimes and their enduring political and environmental legacies. A field visit to Fogo Island introduces students to diverse biomes, from volcanic landscapes to coastal ecosystems. Recognized for its rare biodiversity and nominated to UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserve Network, Fogo offers opportunities to engage with local leaders involved in conservation efforts. Through meetings with initiatives such as Project Vitó, students examine how colonial histories continue to shape contemporary environmental challenges and responses. This study trip will foster indepth, on-the-ground discussions on how the enduring legacies of colonialism continue to shape legal dynamics and environmental challenges in postcolonial societies.

Discover Andalucia, the southernmost part of Spain that from the 8th to the 15th centuries was home to an Arab Muslim society that has left behind a rich urban and cultural heritage. We will visit the cites of Cordoba and Granada, sites of some of the best-preserved monuments to have survived from mediaeval Muslim civilization in Europe. Highlights of the trip include visits to the Alhambra, the Red Palace of Granada, a stunning architectural complex devoted to mystical poetry, the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, and the mediaeval city of Medinat al-Zahra.

Experience the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026 through an immersive, interdisciplinary student program that blends Business, management, sports and culture. This trip offers a unique opportunity to explore the planning and operations of a mega-event, attend competitions, and witness the Opening Ceremony. Students will also engage with local communities, and organizations, gaining insight into intercultural collaboration and event governance. Cultural exploration includes a guided tour of Gorée Island, visits to art exhibitions and fashion events, and culinary experiences highlighting Senegalese traditions. Deconstructing Fashion in Antwerp takes us into heart of fashion in this important port city for cloth trade and craft. This day trip will include a walking tour of “defining spots of Antwerp’s fashion scene” and a guided visit to the current exhibition “Antwerp Six” at MOMU, the dedicated fashion museum. The Six refers to a group of designers who graduated from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts and together with other key figures in fashion, like Martin Margiela, contributed lastingly to contemporary European fashion. Deconstruction as an artistic, cultural and philosophical approach was at the core of their subversive practices of making and communicating fashion, which will be explored experientially through visits, talks and walks.

Brest, almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, has reemerged as a dynamic city with a strong emphasis on the arts. Its Museum of Fine Arts features works by artists of regional, national, and international renown. The city is also an important center for cinema, hosting the European Festival of Short Film (Festival européen du film court). During the festival, students will have the opportunity to view a range of short films and engage with directors and other film professionals in conversations that explore both the specificities of the short film form and broader questions related to cinema and the film industry.

This trip explores how Portuguese cultural narratives of imperial expansion, belonging, and worldmaking produced and sustained institutions of slavery, religious persecution, and incarceration. Through site-based study in Porto and Coimbra, students will (1) engage directly with architecture, urban space, and staged representations of empire and religious conquest, including visits to the World of Discoveries, the Inquisition quarter, the Machado de Castro Museum, and Portugal dos Pequenitos, (2) study Portuguese colonial history while analyzing its narratives logics alongside key themes in speculative fiction and prison worlds: surveillance, alternate realities, affect theory, social discipline, and imagined or foreclosed futures, and (3) attend a percussion performance in Porto that draws on Afro- and Asian diasporic traditions shaped by Portuguese colonial histories, foregrounding rhythm, embodiment, and collective memory as forms of expression that both carry and contest imperial legacies.

Visit Rome, the Eternal City, and its place in the history of Christianity through its institutions, art, sculpture and architecture. You will visit pagan cult sites absorbed into Christianity, the Vatican (a destination for pilgrims from the Middle Ages to the present), the Colosseum and forum, as well as Renaissance and Baroque masterworks.

This three-day study trip explores the intertwined roles of water and wine in shaping landscapes, infrastructure, and regional identity in southern France. We will travel by train to Nîmes and Avignon, with visits to the source of Perrier mineral water, the Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard, and vineyards near Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Through guided site visits, museum exploration, and a winery tour, students will examine water as both a natural resource and a critical factor in viticulture, while exploring how terroir, climate, and tradition shape wine production and the mineral water industry. The program offers a place-based perspective on the connections between environment, history, and the cultural traditions around water and wine.
