The UAB Music Technology program equips students with the technical skills and hands-on experience needed to elevate their artistry as composers, arrangers, multimedia creators, producers, performers, and recording engineers. Beyond state-of-the-art facilities, students benet from a curriculum led by top-tier faculty who are equally rooted in academia and the music industry. Training includes AVID Pro Tools Certication and exposure to the latest AIdriven tools for music creation and production—preparing graduates to thrive in today’s fastmoving entertainment landscape.

Minor in Film

Explore a dynamic range of Film courses designed to spark your creativity and prepare you for powerful storytelling. From hands-on digital video production to in-depth studies of inuential lms and their cultural impact, these courses help you master both the art and craft of visual media. You’ll gain essential skills for careers in lm, television, and digital content creation. Coupled with the Major in Music Technology, these courses open even more doors, empowering you to become a versatile creator ready to shape the future of sound and screen.

Minor in Entrepreneurship

As today’s music industry becomes more complex, musicians need entrepreneurship competencies to complement their artistic and technical talents as freelancers, producers, songwriters, engineers, and multimedia artists. From understanding contracts and copyrights to mastering social media and branding strategies, these skills can dene a career’s success. In partnership with the Collat School of Business, Bareeld Entrepreneurship Program, and Innovation Depot, the Minor in Entrepreneurship offers intensive educational experiences via seminars, industry-related projects, and internships. Paired with the Major in Music Technology, this minor empowers you to turn your creative vision into a thriving career.

Fromcapturing liveconcertsinthe majesticJemison Concert Halltomixing immersive presentations inthe 8.1 surround-sound HulseyRecital Hallor engineering productions inthe SiroteTheatre,studentsare integraltothe creativeand technical process.The Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall providesideal acoustics for chamber works and digital sampling, while the exible Odess Theatre supportsexperimental, tech-drivenproductions.The UAB AlumniMovie Theater,fully equippedfor cinematic presentations, showcases student lms, sound designprojects, and works byguest artists. Together, these spacesgivestudentshands-onexperienceatthe intersectionofperformance, production, and innovation.

AtUAB,Music Technologystudentsenjoy accesstocutting-edgelab spaces designedtofostercreativity and professional-levelproduction. The heart of instructiontakes place inthe 16-station Music TechnologyLab,equipped withindustry-standardsoftwarelikePro Tools,Logic, Ableton Live, Sibelius, Media Composer, and more. Studentshonetheir skillsnot onlyinrecording and scoring but alsoinsound-for-pictureand multimediaproduction. Studentsalsogainhands-onexperienceinthe video editing bay and Foley Lab—furtherempoweringstudentstoexplore the art ofsound designin bothmusic and media.While UAB’s new recording studioisindevelopment, studentsgainreal-worldexperiencethrough top-tier studiopartnerships in Birmingham, Nashville,and Atlanta—ensuringtheir trainingmeets professionalstandards.
