Welcome to Eyrie Theatre Company’s presentation of Newsies JR.!
We are so excited to welcome you to the Eiffler Theater, and we hope you have a great time watching these amazing students! This is the first time our students are telling the story of real people and real events. Newsies is based on the Newsboy Strike of 1899. The child workers involved in the strike were about the same ages as our students, and yet they managed to challenge injustice and change the world, together. This story has such an important message for our students … if we come together as a community, we can face our challenges, fight injustice, and make things better for everyone.
That message is one that we at Holy Trinity and Eyrie Theatre Company, especially, emphasize with our students. We are dedicated to building community, first and foremost. We stand together and support each member of our community to help everyone be their best selves. Our theatre community is a place where students can take risks, step out of their comfort zones and gain a different perspective in a place that is safe and accepts everyone. We work very hard as a community to recognize each student’s special gifts and talents and support their development as a performer and as a human being.
We are privileged and blessed to be a part of helping students discover their special gifts and talents, and we are beyond proud to offer the opportunity to participate in theatre to students in grades 1 through 8 for both campuses. We are very fortunate to have a state-of-the-art facility to carry us into the future of performing arts education, and we are so very grateful for the kindness, diligence, and generosity of our Holy Trinity community that made it possible to have such a beautiful and historic place to shine!
Thank you so much for coming to the show and supporting Holy Trinity’s Eyrie Theatre Company. Enjoy the show!

I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to the cast and crew on your production of Newsies JR. Along with Mrs. Harrington and Mrs. Sharp, each of you plays an important role in bringing this powerful story to life. Your work on the stage brings to your audience some very powerful moments capturing the spirit of resilience in the face of hardship, the courage it takes to stand up to injustice, and the strength that comes from unity. You remind us, “If we stand as one, someday becomes somehow — and a prayer becomes a vow.”
It is my hope that through your participation, you better understand the importance of integrity and the value of friendship, loyalty, and believing in something greater than oneself.
I am incredibly proud of the teamwork, perseverance, and passion you demonstrate. Thank you for representing our school with excellence and heart. Take pride in what you have accomplished — you will not only entertain your audience, but you will inspire them.
“Seize the day!”
Jennifer Browning Principal, St. Matthews Campus
A NOTE FROM THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR/PRODUCER
Working on this musical is truly one of my greatest joys of the year. There is something incredibly special about watching students take their very first steps onto the stage — sometimes nervous, sometimes shy — and then witnessing the confidence, courage, and talent that blossoms over time. Seeing that transformation from their first entrance to their final bow as eighth graders is nothing short of inspiring.
One of my favorite moments each year is watching students discover new sides of themselves. I love it when a crew member, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes, decides to audition the following year and step into the spotlight. That willingness to grow, try something new, is what theatre is all about.
It is one of my greatest joys to share my love of the theatre with these students. Their energy, dedication, and bravery continue to inspire me every year. It is also fun to be able to create this program with my dear friend, Michelle.Thank you to our cast, crew, families, and supporters for making this experience so meaningful.

BRYNN BANTA (Katherine). When I did my first show in sixth grade, I was worried that I would feel like I didn’t belong. I quickly realized that Eyrie Theatre is a place where everyone will feel welcomed and supported. Because of Eyrie Theatre, I have discovered something that I truly love to do. I am so blessed to have experienced being a part of Eyrie Theatre, and I can assure you that Eyrie Theatre is the place for everyone.
QUINTON BROWN (Sound Crew). I will miss the Eyrie Theatre and all its memories I made there. The younger generations should give theatre a try and watch as it helps them learn the way to act, dance, and sing.
JILLIAN DUNTEMAN ( Stage Manager ). I have been a part of Eyrie Theatre for as long as I can remember. I participated in the shows in elementary and joined backstage as part of the crew for the junior high musicals. I want to thank Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Harrington for letting me experience being a part of the production and making my theatre experience great.
CATE EGGER (Medda Larkin). For the past nine years, Eyrie Theatre Co. has been an incredibly influential part of my life. I'm so grateful for the unexpected friendships and countless memories that I have made. There are many people who have greatly impacted my experience in this company. To Mrs. Harrington and Mrs. Sharp, I cannot thank you enough for always believing in me and pushing me to be my absolute best. To the
eighth graders of Mary Poppins, thank you for showing me what it truly means to be a part of Eyrie Theatre Company. Finally, I’d like to thank my family for your unconditional love and support.
HARPER FALLOT (Romeo). I have been both cast and crew throughout my time at Eyrie Theatre Company. I have made so many new friends that have made a great impact on me. I will always cherish the memories I made. I hope everyone else who becomes a part of the Eyrie Theatre Company has as great of an experience as I did.
EMMA FREY (Wiesel, Newsies Ensemble). Over the years, I have had so much fun at Eyrie Theatre Company. I’ve loved doing theatre every year since I was in first grade. Everything about it is so much fun, but my favorite part is the friends I’ve made here. I have so many amazing memories from this place, and I’m so grateful to get to do this. Thank you so much to everyone who helps put the show together each year, especially Mrs. Harrington and Mrs. Sharp.
SOPHIA FRISBIE (Stage Manager). I really enjoyed being part of Holy Trinity’s theatre for the last eight years because of how welcome and supportive the community has been. We work so well together and we help each other out; it has been so fun — thanks for letting me be a part of the production.
KEVIN KLEIN (Light Crew) I liked being in theatre at Holy Trinity because I got to try new
things and meet new friends. I was backstage the first year as a ninja and then switched to lights the last two years, which has been so fun –I have the best seat in the house watching the show each night! Others should consider joining the Eyrie Theatre Company because everyone is so nice and welcoming, and you have the chance to meet people you might not otherwise know.
LIBBY MATTINGLY (Muriel). Throughout my time at Holy Trinity, I have found my love for theatre. I have been in numerous shows for Eyrie Theatre Company from the age of kindergarten until now. Mrs. Harrington helped open my eyes and show me a community of amazing people and experiences. While in theatre, I have made numerous new friends from either grades above or below me. Many of the people I have met because of theatre are my best friends and the kindest people I've met. The experience that is provided with the help of the cast, crew, Mrs. Sharp, and Mrs. Harrington is something that has a special spot in my heart. I have enjoyed my time in Eyrie Theatre Company and I hope that I have made others enjoy it, too. Leaving this place will be a very hard and heartbreaking experience but I will remember it from all the good times.
SIMON PETTER (Davey). I first started doing musical theatre in kindergarten when my mom convinced me to do it. I did not expect myself to enjoy it, but when I went out on the stage for the first time, I loved it. Ever since, I have been doing theatre all the way up to eighth grade. I especially had a great time doing all of the junior high musicals. Theatre is now one of my passions, and I’m extremely grateful that I got the opportunity to be in Mary Poppins, High School Musical, and Newsies. As my time here at the Eyrie Theatre Company comes to an end, I just want to say thank you to all the people who helped me during my musical theatre. I will really miss doing theatre at Holy Trinity, and my time here was the best.
BRINN SMITH (Race). Acting has always been a pretty big part of my life. I started my acting career with Eyrie Theatre in the fifth grade musical, Press Start, where I played Tails the Fox. With my passion for theatre, I’ve always made room for it in my life. Throughout school, I have had struggles, and the Eyrie Theatre has helped me escape my worries, especially Mrs. Harrington who has always had my back, even when times were tough. As I move on from my home at Eyrie Theatre Company, I will be taking with me the sense of community and friendship we have built over the years. As I move on, I thank all of my friends and Mrs. Harrington for the life confidence I have been able to build.
ELLIE SMITH (Crutchie). I’ve been doing theatre every year at Holy Trinity since kindergarten. Ever since that year, I’ve truly had fun spending hours working on perfecting the scenes for a performance. After all the hours you spend working on a performance with
8TH GRADE FAREWELLS
your castmates, you find out that even if you weren’t friends with them in the beginning, they're still there to support you and help you with whatever you need. When I graduate, Eyrie Theatre is one of the things I’ll miss the most, which is why I’m so excited and thankful to be playing Crutchie this year as my last year at Holy Trinity.
CAROLINE VANHIMBERGEN (Hannah, Newsies Ensemble). My first experience with Eyrie Theatre was in sixth grade on the hair and makeup crew. When I saw how great of a community it was, I knew I had to be involved with the cast. It’s been so amazing making so many great memories and friendships there. If you’ve never done theatre before, Eyrie Theatre is the place to start.
THOMAS WATKINS (Stage (Ninja) Crew). Working backstage was a new experience for me, and it was cool to see how much work goes into putting on a musical. I liked being part of a team where everyone had a role and had to stay focused. Younger kids should try it because it teaches responsibility and gives you a new experience.
GUS WILLER (Jack). Eyrie Theatre has done so much for me in my life. In my sixth grade year, I was hesitating doing theatre, I had lots of responsibilities and didn’t know if it would be worth it for the time I would have to give to rehearsals. I got a few of my friends to do it, and we did it. One of the best communities I’ve been a part of. I've grown as an individual in terms of friends, but this has also improved my public speaking skills as this last September, I gave a speech for my brother’s wedding
as a groomsman in front of a little over 100 people. I'll miss Mrs.Harrington, Mrs. Sharp, and everyone else who has helped these shows come together and those who have helped create a very special community within. If you're on the fence about doing the show, just do it. It turned out to be one of the most enjoyable experiences I have done in my time at Holy Trinity. From in fourth grade, being Marco the plumber, a ketchup on potato chip addict, to last year being Troy Bolton in High School Musical Jr., this organization is phenomenal and very comparable to some of the best shows in Louisville.
HENRY WINDHORST (Seitz, Newsies Ensemble). I started my theatre journey in fifth grade because some of my friends signed up, and they had been begging me to at least try, so I did. I knew that I would be doing theatre until eighth grade because of the community and friends that I made along the way. I never get “the main role,” but I still have fun, and the journey is all that matters. I will never forget all of the friends that I made through Eyrie Theatre Company, and when I look back at my years at Holy Trinity, this will be one of the first things that popped into my head. Thank you for my opportunity, and I hope that this company will keep growing every year.
