Ritchie Bros. believes that is where operational support makes the difference. From auction yard to international buyer One recent sale demonstrates the scale of that operation. After a 125tonne excavator sold from Ritchie Bros.' UK site to a buyer in Egypt, the machine was dismantled, secured
using £7,000 worth of specialist chains, packed into six containers and dispatched within just three to four days. Exporting machinery into Europe also brings additional challenges. Since the UK's departure from the EU, equipment must meet phytosanitary regulations, requiring every machine to be cleaned and inspected for even the smallest traces of soil before crossing the border. The company's Maltby team now manages this process on behalf of sellers, ensuring equipment can move without unnecessary delays.
A gateway to global buyers Ritchie Bros.' operational network extends well beyond the UK. Its bonded yard outside Madrid allows equipment from around the world to be received and resold without formal importation, making Spain an important hub for international trade. The site's largest project involved around 4,000 machines from a North African construction programme. Arriving aboard 21 vessels, the assets were sold over an 18-month period to buyers in nearly 90 countries, illustrating the reach of
the company's global auction network. “Our operations team is one of the most experienced in the entire organisation,” says Fergus Garrett, Spain Regional Operations Manager. “That experience is what lets us stay close to our customers and handle every detail so they don’t have to.”
Supporting stronger selling outcomes By combining local operational expertise with an international audience of buyers, Ritchie Bros. aims to give sellers more than exposure alone. Efficient logistics, compliant documentation and experienced regional teams help minimise delays while opening assets to a significantly wider global market. That international buyer demand is expected to peak again during Super September, the company's flagship selling season, with its latest programme of equipment auctions scheduled for end of September.
