Gemma Ashton reflects on 2025 and plans for growth in the year ahead.
As we move into 2026, it feels like a good time to reflect on the past year and share how we’re shaping the next phase of Auction News.
2025 marked a significant milestone for our Managing Director, Gemma, as she completed her first full year as sole director following the retirement of her parents, Steve and Alison, continuing the leadership of Auction News as it builds on more than 65 years of industry heritage. It’s been a full-on year of learning, reflection and gaining clearer strategic direction on where we are as a business and where we’re heading next.
2025 in Review
Last year’s priorities were simple:
• To protect the heritage and reputation built over the last 65 years
• To strengthen the foundations of the business
• To ensure Auction News continues to offer real value to both auctioneers and buyers
• To personally get to know more of our auctioneers and valued customers
A Few Standout Positives
One of the most rewarding outcomes has been continuing to support our long-standing auctioneers while also welcoming new auctioneers on board. It’s been encouraging to see our ongoing investment in SEO, content and social activity translate into a stronger and more visible online presence for auctions across Auction News.
We also introduced our Auction Services Hub — a new area of the website designed to support the wider auction industry by bringing together trusted service providers that work alongside auctioneers.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we move into the new year, our focus is very much on building on our strategic foundations.
For buyers, we’ll continue investing in our website and digital channels to improve the customer journey and make auctions easier to find and access.
For auctioneers, our priority remains the same: supporting effective auction promotion. That means improving how auctions are presented and promoted, developing tools that make promotion easier and continuing to offer a personalised, relationship-led service that recognises no two auctioneers are the same.
Alongside this, we’ll continue investing in our systems to allow our team to spend more time supporting our customers.
We’ll be sharing more insights, guidance and industry-led content throughout the year. We always welcome news, updates and stories from auctioneers who would like to be involved.
We’re really excited about what 2026 will bring for all of us. As always, we welcome conversations. If you’d like to discuss your plans for the year ahead or how we can support your business in 2026, please get in touch.

Empowering Auctioneers: How Newline Is Driving the Move to Online Plant & Machinery Sales
As more auctioneers make the move from traditional rostrums to online platforms, Newline is helping lead the way - offering flexible, user-friendly technology tailored to the plant and machinery market.
With roots in the agricultural sector, Newline has long been trusted by auctioneers who value personal relationships, regional knowledge and local reputation. Founded in 1983, the company was built with a deep respect for traditional auctioneering, while also recognising the need for modern tools to keep businesses moving forward.
Now, that same commitment is powering a new generation of digital plant and machinery sales.
“At the heart of what we do is enabling auctioneers to retain their identity and values, while embracing technology that drives efficiency,” says Stuart Melville, Sales & Marketing Director at Newline.
From Mock Auctions to Mobile Apps: Technology That Works Like You Do Newline’s platform is built specifically for auctioneersmaking it intuitive, practical and easy to adopt. Their onboarding process includes step-by-step tutorials, oneto-one guidance and even mock auctions to ensure users feel confident and in control.
Behind the scenes, robust back-office tools handle everything from lot creation to invoicing, while front-end features like high-quality live streaming and bidder support ensure smooth and professional sales, even from the most remote locations.
“Timed auctions are becoming increasingly popular,” notes Stuart. “They offer greater efficiency, attract a wider

Designed for Growth, Built for Auctioneers
Newline is more than just a sales platform, it’s a growth engine. SEO-optimised auction listings and integrated marketing tools help auctioneers reach new buyers across the UK, Ireland and growing overseas markets including Canada and the US.
For plant and machinery sales, Newline continues to enhance its platform with tools that meet the sector’s unique demands - from media-rich listings and service record uploads to spec sheets, lot bundling and dynamic shipping tools. Their development road-map is shaped by real auctioneer feedback, solving everyday pain points like cataloguing, post-sale payments and collection logistics.
“Auctioneers know their markets better than anyone,” says Stuart. “Our job is to give them the digital tools that work just as hard as they do.”
