Supporting emerging theatre technicians
Auckland Theatre Company's Techies Club is a hands-on programme for rangatahi to participate behind the scenes of a professional theatre company
Techies Club is free and part-time, designed for beginners and tech-curious young people. No prior experience is required.
To apply, you should be in year 12 or 13, or aged 16-20 and not in employment, education, or training. ---
Techies Club is part of ATC Youth Arts, which creates supportive spaces where young people can grow their creativity, confidence and sense of belonging.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for ten young people who are:
• Either in years 12 or 13 at school or kura, or aged between 16-20 and not in employment, education, or training
• Curious about backstage and production work
• Based in Tāmaki Makaurau for the duration of the programme
• Available for the full set of programme dates
We welcome participants of all identities, cultural backgrounds and experience levels. No prior technical training is required.
Cost: Absolutely free.

Your first session. We'll make introductions, walk you through the club, and go on a backstage tour of the ASB Waterfront Theatre. Then we'll kōrero about the show before you take your seat for a free ticket to Helen Clark in Six Outfits
Meet the Youth Company and get to know ATC's rehearsal studios. You'll explore the roles and responsibilities in theatre, and explore the rehearsal studios, and their technical setup
Watch the dress rehearsal of the Youth Company scene showings. And help stage manage or technically operate the showing.
Scene Showing Performance. An optional opportunity to stage manage or technically operate the Youth Company's public scene showings.
Participate in a mainstage pack-in from start to finish. See exactly what it takes to get a professional production ready for the stage.
A visit somewhere beyond our usual spaces whether that's another Auckland theatre, a set-building workshop, or a lighting storeroom. Details to be confirmed with the group.

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?
Programme Leader: Kathryn Osborne
Kathryn is ATC's Director of Production, bringing a decade plus of technical & stage management experiences from companies across New Zealand, including international touring, New Zealand Opera, Royal New Zealand Ballet and Stetson Productions. Before joining ATC, she spent six years as Technical Manager at Q Theatre. Kathryn leads both the ATC production department and Techies Club.
Lead Facilitator: Molloy
Molloy is a Senior Performing Arts Technician with experience spanning lighting, sound, stage management, production coordination, and technical design. They've worked across venues around the motu, from Auckland's Basement Theatre and Q Theatre to national touring productions and have a genuine passion for mentoring the next generation of theatre technicians.
Youth Arts Facilitator
A graduate of ATC's own programmes, our Youth Arts Facilitator will be at every session to make sure things run smoothly and you feel supported from day one.
ATC Youth Arts Team
Sam Phillips and Kalia Regan are behind the scenes making the programme happen. ATC's Youth Arts team creates spaces where young and emerging theatre artists can grow their craft, build community, and find a home in the industry.

ABOUT AUCKLAND THEATRE COMPANY
Auckland Theatre Company has been making theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau since 1993. We're home to the ASB Waterfront Theatre in Wynyard Quarter and rehearsal studios on Dominion Road in Balmoral, and we produce six to eight shows a year alongside a suite of programmes for young and emerging artists. Techies Club is part of that work. We believe theatre belongs to everyone, and we're committed to making sure the next generation of people who make it feel at home here.
