EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Legal Search Is Where the Case Is Won Legal search is not a smaller version of general SEO. It is a different game: Google decides which firms to show based on relevance, distance and prominence — and it decides in the moment a client is ready to act, usually on a phone, usually in distress. This report explains that game, pillar by pillar, so a firm owner can judge any SEO proposal — including ours — against it. One honest note up front: no one can guarantee rankings, and any proposal that does should be treated as a warning sign, not a selling point.

The strategy in one paragraph Be complete where Google looks first (your profile), be specific about the cases you take and where (practice-area pages), be proven by clients (reviews), be the firm that answers (content), be sound underneath (technical SEO and schema), and be reachable the moment it works (intake). Do all six, together, every month. Nothing here is exotic. The advantage is doing all of it, consistently.

HOW LEGAL SEARCH WORKS

Relevance, Distance, Prominence RELEVANCE

Does this firm do what the searcher asked for, where they asked for it? Relevance comes from categories, services, page titles and content — all naming the case type and the city in the searcher's own words. DISTANCE

How close is the firm to the searcher or the place named in the search? Distance is why location pages matter: a firm that has genuinely served a city, and says so on a real page, is easier for Google to place there. PROMINENCE

How well-known and trusted is this firm? Prominence is built from reviews, citations, links and mentions. It is the slowest pillar to build and the hardest for a competitor to copy — which is why it is the most durable advantage in this report. A NOTE ON ADS

Local Services Ads and paid search sit above organic results in many legal searches. They are advertising, not SEO, and they stop the day you stop paying. The pillars in this report keep working after the spend stops — which is why they are the foundation, and ads the accelerator, never the other way round.

PILLAR 1 • GOOGLE BUSINESS PROFILE

The Profile Is the First Interview WHY IT COMES FIRST

In a legal search, the profile is what the client sees before your website: rating, reviews, hours, distance and a call button. A complete profile wins calls from firms with better websites but thinner profiles. THE STANDARD

Every field completed. The precise primary category and honest secondary categories. Real photos of the firm and team. Practice areas listed. Posts at least every two weeks. Every question answered, every review replied to. THE MISTAKE TO AVOID

Keyword-stuffing the business name ('Best Personal Injury Lawyer Chicago 24/7'). Google treats that as manipulation, competitors report it, and the profile can be suspended. Your real firm name, exactly as registered, is the only safe name.

PILLARS 2 + 3 • PAGES + REVIEWS

Specificity, Then Proof Practice-area and location pages: specificity beats breadth THE RULE

One genuine page per practice area you take cases in, and per city you serve, with a local headline, local proof, local FAQs and links from your homepage and service pages. A city you can't write a genuine page for is a city you shouldn't claim yet. THE PAYOFF

Specific pages don't just rank better. They pre-qualify the caller: a prospect who read your page on their exact case type arrives already half-convinced, and the consultation starts further along.

Reviews: the compounding asset, kept compliant THE SYSTEM

Ask at the happiest moment — right after the result — with a one-tap link. Reply within days, to every review, including the negative ones, calmly and specifically. And keep every claim on the site factual: results stated plainly, no guarantees, nothing a bar regulator would call misleading. THE COMPOUNDING EFFECT

Reviews feed prominence, prominence feeds rankings, rankings feed consultations, consultations feed reviews. It is the only flywheel in legal SEO, and it starts with the first ten requests.

PILLARS 4 + 5 • CONTENT + TECHNICAL

Answers and Foundations Content: answer before you're asked THE RULE

Publish the answers clients search for before they call: cost, timelines, process, and 'do I have a case' guides for each practice area — written from real intake calls, not copied from other firms. Each article links to its practice-area page, and carries FAQ schema.

Technical SEO and schema: the foundation Google reads THE RULE

Fast pages on a phone, mobile-first performance, clean code, unique service-plus-city titles on every page — plus Attorney/LocalBusiness schema and FAQ schema, so Google doesn't have to guess what kind of firm you are or what you answer. THE MISTAKE TO AVOID

Buying thousands of low-quality links to 'boost authority.' For law firms, that pattern is precisely what manual actions and algorithm updates punish — and cleaning it up costs more than the links ever earned.

MEASUREMENT

What to Measure, and How Often Measure monthly, on the same day, with the same definitions. Four numbers tell you almost everything: • Local pack rankings — your money keywords, city by city. Movement here follows profile, page and review work by a few weeks. • Profile actions — calls, direction requests, website clicks. The closest proxy to consultations that SEO measurement has. • Review velocity and rating — new reviews per month, average rating, reply rate. Falling velocity is an early warning. • Consultations from organic search — if this number grows, the strategy is working; everything else is diagnosis.

Reading a bad month A ranking drop with steady reviews points at pages or technical foundations. A visibility drop with falling reviews points at the review system. A profile with views but no calls points at the profile itself — photos, rating or categories. Diagnose by pillar, fix one pillar, then wait a month before judging it.

NEXT STEPS

The 90-Day Sequence • Days 1–30 — Foundation: complete the profile, lock NAP, fix the biggest citations, publish the first practice-area pages. • Days 31–60 — Proof: run the review system properly, publish two answer articles, add Attorney and FAQ schema. • Days 61–90 — Compound: keep the cadence, measure monthly, and fix whichever pillar the numbers say is weakest.

After 90 days, law firm SEO becomes maintenance: a monthly rhythm of profile posts, review requests, one answer article and one measurement session. Firms that keep the rhythm keep the rankings. Firms that stop, drift — usually to a competitor who didn't.
