ATU is committed to creating a compassionate campus community that fosters and supports the mental, emotional, and social well-being of our students to enhance their success and their sense of belonging.

We encourage our students to engage fully in university life academically and socially and to seek help and support as needed.

The ATU Belong Mental Health Action Plan sets out the University’s continued commitment to a whole system approach to student mental health and well-being.

Build mental health skills and awareness within the ATU community, through the provision of training and health promotion.

Build mental health skills and awareness within the ATU community, through the provision of training and health promotion.

· Provide a range of easily accessible mental health training for staff and students.

· Collaborate on the provision of mental health promotion and awareness raising activities.

· Embed mental health awareness into course curricula.

· Deliver non-academic skills training for students e.g., leadership, assertiveness, interpersonal skills development.

Empower students to embrace all learning and social opportunities while at university.

· Provide a comprehensive induction to all incoming students.

· Develop a guide to support students to navigate campus life.

· Implement a range of peer mentoring and peer support opportunities across ATU.

· Collaborate across student services to develop a range of transition, well-being and social supports to “at risk” students.

· Encourage smaller group social activities on campus that allow students to meet and mingle in a safe and supported way.

· Create collaborative learning opportunities that encourage students to connect and support each other.

· Support the application of a well-being lens to curricula development and assessment.

· Create accessible learning environments and opportunities via the implementation of the Altitude Charter.

· Increase awareness of and celebrate the diversity of our campus community through a range of initiatives and events.

· Collaboratively develop and embed initiatives to promote healthy relationships to help prevent bullying, harassment and gender-based violence.

· Create Safer Spaces in each campus environment to reduce access to lethal means.

Nurture emotional well-being and positive mental health through the provision of student centred supports and services.

· Develop and implement a policy for a psychosocial response to the death of a student.

· Develop a cross-disciplinary response plan to support students in crisis.

· Provide clinical services to meet a range of student health and mental health needs.

· Continue to develop relationships with statutory and community-based services and supports to ensure smooth access for students.

· Progress a whole university approach to mental health and well-being.

· Develop and promote a campaign highlighting community-based services and supports in each ATU community.
